Aizawa trudged towards the main, his sleeping bag tucked under his hoodie and stuffed down his right pant leg. Nezu had called him in for a quick meeting, if he hadn't been on patrol, the sleep deprived teacher might've been late; but that wasn't an entirely new concept to him. The raven haired man lumbered forward, reaching the door handle before jiggling it, feeling the knob resist his attempt to get in "Who is it?" The principal asked, "Me." He replied in annoyance.
"Me who?" Aizawa growled softly before giving his full name. The latch behind the thick door made an audible sliding motion as he was able to push right in "You know that we have protocol Mr. Aizawa. Lack of sleep is sadly not an excuse to forget that." The teacher bit his tongue before calling him a hairless rat. "So, then what do you need me for?" The tone of the room shifted as Nezu cleared his throat.
"It has come to my attention that one of your students, Izuku Midoriya, is in possession of a powerful Quirk." Aizawa tilted his head. Wouldn't Nezu have known as soon as he saw the boy's papers? "One that was given to him. By All Might himself." Call Nezu the United States cause he just dropped two bombs dropped right there: Midoriya was given a Quirk, but not only that, he was given the Quirk by the number one hero in the world, All Might.
"Excuse me?" The small...mammal, stood up and went over to his window, viewing the school grounds "Are you messing with me or am I hallucinating?" Aizawa rubbed his temples and tried seeing his superiors smirk, something that he'd do whenever he was actively playing around with people. But the small principal had a stern, blank face, devoid of his usual goofy nature.
"All Might was given his Quirk, by a hero who is no longer with us. He'd been looking for a successor for quite some time, especially after a fatal injury he suffered. Izuku Midoriya has shared this secret for a few months now, but I suspect he's mental health will decline." Now Nedu had his attention. "But I suspect you know the reason for this Aizawa."
"His better nature." It made sense. The kid only ever spoke up to answer questions or start explaining something. Unlike a lot of his students, Midoriya didn't impose his will over others or demand attention. He was a good kid with the power to collapse buildings. "Let me guess, he feels bad for lying about it." Nezu nodded his tiny little head.
"I've seen the way he acts when questioned about his Quirk. Well, more like he was asked. He panics and flees the scene more often than not. It was humorous, and still is, but I feel like it isn't a mind set a future hero should have at his age. Not to this degree." Aizawa leaned against the wall, sighing to himself as he saw where the conversation would lead.
"You want me to talk with him?" The small animal turned around and smiled "I would be thankful if you did Aizawa." Now deprived of sleep and possible free time (which he uses for sleep) the shaggy looking teacher pulled back his hair into a man bun, rubbing the wrinkles under his eyes as he stretched his legs.
"Fine. But I'll do it later. I still need to plan the meet up with the Pussy Cats." Nezu nodded his head and walked back to his seat, watching the tall man walk out as he closed the door behind him. Good doesn't get a good night's sleep it'd seem.
--Days Before Summer Camp--
Sleep became a chore; waking up in the middle of the night, with nightmares littered with metaphorical meaning and a sense of dread he hadn't felt in a long time. Izuku breathed in softly, his body shaking and his chest tightening with every breath. The night sky peered through the window, glazing over the memorabilia that laid around him, his action figures and posters laying still. He gulped silently and stood up slowly, his knees popping loudly as he tiptoed his way out of his room.
He turned his head and saw the time: 5:46 am. A lot later than the previous few nights. He finally calmed down and walked down the short hallway, the crickets chirping made its way through the apartment walls, making this particular walk feel different; special almost. He continued his aimless wandering until he found the porch, with a lantern dimly lit, ants crawling along the concrete beams and the moths circling around the light.
He was alone, like he was told to be. The world around him could move and grow, but he had to do it independently. He couldn't let anyone know about his secret. Their knowledge could cause untold hardship for both him and whomever discovered his secret. That thought was ingrained into his mind, searing itself onto his very being. He just didn't get why he couldn't tell anyone else! He could vividly remember when he almost told his mother, how All Might talked to him rather sternly. These memories held a death grip on his psyche, until he finally drifted off to bed.
--Months Back--
"Please All Might! Can't she at least know!" Izuku paced back and forth, watching the older man sigh as he once again explained why it wasn't a good idea. "She's my mother! She has every right to know what I'm doing! She can keep a secret!"
"That's not the problem young Midoriya. It's the possible danger that lies with this secret!" Izuku stopped, his balled fist relaxing "My predecessors had to fight All for One with very little help from anyone else. Because of how powerful he was, and he's still dangerous to this very day; regardless if he's gone underground."
The greenette grumbled as he sat on the sidewalk curb "I know that! I just feel so constricted! Like I can't be myself around anyone. I hate it, I hate living like this." He rubbed his arms and gulped softly "I trust her. I don't want to keep things from her, especially something as life changing as this!" The number one hero walked to him, sitting beside the teen as he nodded his withered head.
"I know. I wanted to tell those close to me, but you haven't seen the devastation All for One can inflict upon other people. My injury is just one out of countless examples of his cruelty." The hero then interlocked his fingers as his voice grew dim "He killed my master before my very eyes. Manipulated innocent minds to his cause, burrowed his wicked nature into our very society and decimated anyone who opposed him. Both publicly and privately." Toshinori's eyes wavered, unsure if he should be sharing this information "He had considerable resources then, and I doubt he would have abandoned them when he went into hiding. If you tell anyone about this, he could find out, and use them as leverage."
Izuku breathed heavily, imagining every worst scenario possible "That's why it's imperative that you keep your lips shut. Any word about what you've learned could lead to a quick end to this endeavor. Or a painful end to you." He stood up, brushing off his legs as he held out his hand "But we won't let that happen, will we?"
Izuku looked up at him and shook his head "No sir. I wouldn't dare endanger anyone."
--Present Day--
Izuku found himself back in his bedroom, his mother knocking on the door and reminding him of the fact that he still had to go to school! He immediately got up, changed his clothes, and sped out the door onto the train where he made his way to his high school.
U.A. school stood strong and tall, with the hallways now filled with the future heroes of tomorrow. Each student showed promise of being the next big thing, but Midoriya wasn't feeling himself. He was feeling like the next big failure.
While he was lost in thought, someone began walking towards him "What are you doing Deku?" Katsuki Bakugou made his presence known. Izuku spun around, his heart rate spiking at dangerously high levels as he gasped "K-Kachan! What are you doing?"
"I could ask you the same thing. You're staring off into space man." The blonde rubbed the back of his head, now standing beside Izuku and looking at him with curiosity "Are you thinking about anything interesting?" Izuku shrugged his shoulders.
"Just wondering. You don't look so hot there. Did you sleep on the right side of the bed?" Izuku turned his head and faced his locker. "You ignoring me or something? Come on, what's up? Is something wrong?"
Midoriya's pupils contracted as he coughed "N-No! Nothing's wrong. Does it look like something's wrong?" Bakugou gave him an odd glance and chuckled.
"Yeah, it does. I'm going to be honest, you kinda look like shit. You got eye bags, you're slouching, and you just aren't acting like yourself." Midoriya groaned.
"No, I don't need help. I'm...perfectly fine. It's all good." Katsuki didn't believe a word he said, but he let it go.
"Alright, whatever you say." He put his hand on Izuku's shoulder, tapping it as he began leaving "Don't push yourself. Nobody truly works alone. I'll be here if you need me." The platinum blonde walked away, sniffling to himself as Izuku looked down solemnly.
"Sorry Kachan." He murmured to himself "But I'm on my own." The rest of the morning went well, with training feeling like it went on for 100 years. Aizawa kept a keen eye on Izuku, watching him fail to keep up with his classmates and seemingly mess up at every turn. It was a little upsetting to see him like this.
The class finally ended and they went to history, and once again, Izuku seemed to be behind. Just about everyone took notice of his mental and physical burnout. There was an air of unpredictability around him now; they didn't know if he'd drop dead or stand on his desk and start singing. The lunch bell rang and Class 1-A moved to the cafeteria, grabbing the warm food.
The students relaxed and went to the tables, sitting with each other as their light conversations grew louder and louder. Izuku plopped himself beside Ochako and Iida, dropping his head like a brick onto the smooth surface. The thud made the two friends jump "Gaah! Deku, what's wrong?" Ochako asked nervously.
"Nothing." He mumbled, turning his head to face the brunette "I'm just exhausted. It's all good." Ochako looked at him and at Iida, the two giving each other a look.
"You sure Deku? You've been really worn out, even before today's training." Midoriya sat up, his green eyes glazed over as Tenya cleared his throat.
"It's true! There's something on your mind, and it's captivated your attention for quite some time. And it's done so to a negative effect." Izuku pinched the roof of his nose and rolled his shoulders back.
"I-It's all good, I swear! Everything's a-okay." His voice was unconvincing, but Iida left him alone, leaving only one piece of advice.
"You helped me with my brother and I've become a better person because of it. We're here to help you as well, no matter what it is." Izuku froze and watched this tall friend walk off. Ochako however remained.
"We can help Deku, truly. I wouldn't want you to think that you can't tell us anything." He felt his chest hurt "We've been through a lot together. I just thought that we could be relied upon." Like the straw breaking the camel's back, Izuku stood up and stormed off, his face growing red as tears formed in his eyes.
He hated this feeling, lying and keeping secrets. It was all growing too much. He could feel himself losing his friends, people he cared about deerly. So in an act of brazen desperation, he sat up, stood on the table and yelled.
--Aizawa's Office--
Shota didn't know how to handle a teary eyed teen. His face was flushed and his posture was poor to say the least. Izuku was in shambles, a shadow of his former self. But he was his teacher, so Aizawa had to do something about it. "Do you have anything to say for yourself?" Izuku didn't respond. "I looked at the security cam footage: you started off strong, but you went on rambling, almost like you were trying to prevent confusion. But you ended up being more confusing."
Izuku looked down at his feet, ashamed for what he'd done. "As I understand it, your classmates can understand what you said was important, and wish to know more." Izuku froze. "And I'm inclined to let them know." Now the teen looked at his teacher, stunned and in disbelief. "I know about One for All, and the need for secrecy. But, it's imperative that your classmates know about this; after everything you've been through, and all that you could go through, this is information that they'll need to know."
Izuku's heart fluttered. Was this real? "Mr. Aizawa, I...I don't know what to say!" His teacher smiled faintly.
"You've been through a lot. And you're pushing yourself to try and keep this a secret. I understand the need to keep all this hidden, but if you're being torn apart from the inside out," his teacher now stood in front of him "I see no reason but to do whatever I can, to make you feel better." Izuku smiled and hugged the older hero.
The greenette rubbed his snot on black fabric, making a gross gooey mess of Aizawa's costume. Shota wanted to get him off and steam clean his clothes as soon as possible, but he let him continue. The boy truly needed this. Minutes passed until Izuku let go and sniffed loudly.
"Are you good to go?" Izuku nodded "Great, cause we got a meeting to get to." The two proceeded to walk out, passing by onlookers who didn't understand what Izuku said, but they knew one thing; they'd experienced something unique and special. And probably something that may go unexplained.
All Might sat in front of Nezu's desk, with Izuku sitting beside him and Aizawa standing behind the two. Then the discussion began. "Izuku had a...mental episode here at the cafeteria. He told students about One for All," Aizawa looked at All Might "But, I feel that his demeanor can be passed off as mental stress. At least, to those who don't know him."
"Are you alright boy?" Izuku replied with a yes. "Thank goodness…"
"You may continue, Aizawa." Nezu commented.
"Well, my idea was that Izuku tells my class. Without him weeping and falling off the table." All Might tensed up. "As I said, no one really comprehends what he was talking about. But, I feel that he'd be able to tell 1-A either later today, or tomorrow." Nezu's fingers interlocked as Izuku fidgeted in his seat.
"With everything that's happened, I feel everyone of his classmates can understand the gravity of this situation. They have developed a relationship built on trust, and their growing strength. To hide something like this jeopardizes this relationship." All Might wanted to speak, to apologize to his student for putting this much pressure on him, but couldn't find the right words.
"Well, I don't have too many qualms about this." Nezu smiled and looked at All Might "Anything you have to say?" Toshinori simply blinked and shook his head. "Alright then, it's approved! You may go and tell your students. We at U.A. will monitor them closely, so no one will gain access to this sensitive information." Aizawa mumbled and said his goodbyes.
"Izuku…" All Might spoke "I'm...I'm truly sorry for this." Izuku looked at the teacher and replied back.
"It's not your fault All Might. I just...need something different. That's all…" The meeting was adjourned and Aizawa left with Izuku, leaving Nezu to talk to All Might.
"That's quite something." Nezu commented, the blonde staring at the principal.
"You told Aizawa?"
"Of course. He's teaching the boy, it'd be foolish not to notify him." Toshinori groaned and placed his hands on his thin face.
"This is my fault. I placed too heavy a burden on him." Nezu nodded in agreement. "I just...I was able to handle the responsibility, you know? I only taught him the way my master taught me!"
Nezu sighed "Well, Izuku isn't you. You're similar in many ways, but you're nonetheless different people. Different lives, different outlooks on life. The only difference now is that One for All is no longer yours; he's the new bearer, and it's his choice to handle it as he sees fit. Besides, I think a unified force is more effective than a one man army. It certainly has its perks." All Might slumped in his chair and contemplated.
--At Class--
Izuku walked through the door, his classmates standing around their desks looked up and ran to him. They hugged him, worryingly asking what was wrong, begging him to tell them. He looked at his teacher and Aizawa nodded. So Izuku began explaining once again, at the beginning. The souls and minds of the students were moved by Izuku's words, each word being heard, each letter memorized, and every syllable cherished.
They now knew of One for All, the history of All for One, and the importance Izuku had on their society as a whole.
