I am loving the suggestions I keep getting, but I won't be able to get to all of them for now as I have already made a list of reactions that I'm going to get done. I won't spoil the surprise but I think you'll enjoy what I have in store :). With that said, I hope you enjoy the chapter and I'll talk to you all next time. Feel free to review or send me a pm. Also just so I don't get knocked down, I own absolutely nothing except for my character of Vima. Everything belongs to their respective owners.
Vima played the Holovid. "Just to let you all know, I have a copy of myself with the Clones showing them the exact same thing." He stated getting the attention of everyone, Rex in particular.
"Well at least I won't have to watch everything twice." The Clone Captain says to himself.
Words appeared on the screen saying SIMPLE HISTORY Presents. It then shows an animated man with scratches on his face holding a soldier over his shoulders.
"Hold on," Mace says causing Vima to pause the recording. "What is this?"
"Oh right!" Vima says in realization. "You guys don't have animation!"
"Animation?" Plo Koon asks confusingly. "What is animation?"
"Okay I best way to explain this, imagine a photo." He says getting nods from everyone. "Now imagine it moving, that is what animation is. Since none of you have heard of it, I can say that it is a Terran invention, one of their most popular ones. With it you can create better stories and moments that you can only dream of with real life things. When making it your only limit is your imagination. This is an example of basic animation."
"I think I understand." Obi-Wan states. "So they can pretty much turn any sort of story into one you can actually see as if you were actually there?"
"Exactly!" Vima says with a smile. "And there's multiple types of animation, and you'll be seeing it." He says as he continues the video.
"Desmond Doss was not your average hero. He would become a Medal of Honor recipient, The United States of America's highest and most prestigious military award. As a combat medic who saved many of his comrades' lives in battle, without firing a single shot, because he didn't take a weapon into combat, because of his religious beliefs."
"Wait a minute...what?" Rex asks incredulously after hearing that. "He never held a weapon and never killed anyone because of his beliefs?"
"I'm surprised he's actually a war hero." Mace says putting a hand to his chin as he looks on in interest.
"Take a life, not something every hero does, hmm." Yoda says wisely.
"Desmond Doss was born in 1919, in the state of Virginia, and was raised as a strict Seventh-day Adventist. A Christian denomination that believed that Saturday was the sabbath, and that the second coming of Jesus Christ was imminent. They also believed strongly in non-violence, and a healthy diet, based typically on a vegetarian diet."
Everyone looked at Vima for information on Jesus Christ. He looked back at them. "Jesus Christ was a person believed to be the Son of the Christian God, this religion being called Christianity. I'll teach you more about it later." He stated getting nods from everyone as they go back to watching the video.
"Doss had been raised with a strict belief in the bible, and when it came to the Ten Commandments, he took them to be the core values of how to lead his life. When World War 2 started, he was conflicted, as he believed the war was a just one, but he felt that to kill another human being under any circumstance was wrong. He was already employed as Joiner at Newport News Naval Shipyard but nevertheless he joined the United States Army on April 1st, 1942. He could have requested a deferment but he wanted to do his patriotic duty."
"What caused this war Vima?" Padme asks.
"A few things." He says with sorrow. "But I will tell you now, that the reason for this war, kind of overshadows the reason for your war." And he left it at that and continued the video.
"He was assigned to an Infantry Unit, the 77th division and presumed that his classification as a conscientious objector would not require him to carry a weapon. For Doss, one Commandant of the Bible stuck with him the most, thou shall not kill. He wondered why he was assigned as a rifleman and not in a medical role. His commanding officer tried to pressure Doss into carrying a weapon as they thought he would be more of a liability than an asset in combat, but Doss refused."
"I understand the problem these two have." Rex says. "Both are valid reasons, but I would have to side with Doss's commanding officer. You shouldn't be going into battle without at least something to protect yourself."
"I agree with Captain Rex." Ki Adi replies. "While it is a noble quality to refuse to take a life, it is a foolish quality in a time of war."
"Interestingly even from medics, which Doss would later become, it was common practice at the time to carry either an M1911A1 pistol or M1 Carbine for self-defense purposes. The rules go that a Medic under the Geneva Convention is not forbidden from carrying a weapon but if a medic fired his weapon, he stops being classed as a medic and therefore can be legitimately fired upon by the enemy."
"Wait a minute." Anakin realizes. "Vima you mentioned the Geneva Convention earlier."
"That I did. So allow me to give a brief explanation. The Geneva Convention are essentially rules of war that every country that signs it has to follow. The rule mentioned here is to not knowingly fire at a medic unless the medic fires his weapon." The AI explains.
"And didn't you say that we should be glad we aren't on Earth for some of the things we did in our war?" Ahsoka asks nervously.
"Oh yes. In fact most of you Jedi would essentially be criminals on Earth. You've done things such as faking surrenders, torturing prisoners, killing survivors after defeating them in battle, killing those that have surrendered and so on." He says. "And the Separatists aren't guilt free of this either."
As soon as he started listing them off everyone in the room got nervous with some even sweating a bit. *cough Anakin cough*
"Good to know." Anakin says in a tone that meant 'please continue the video and drop this topic.'
"The regimental chaplain, Captain Stanely, would understand Doss protests and helped him transfer from riflemen to medical training. To make matters worse, his fellow soldiers mocked his religious beliefs when he was reading the Bible daily and strictly observing the Seventh-day Avdentist tradition of attending church every Saturday. Doss continuously requested to be allowed to have Saturday's off rather than Sundays in order to follow his Adventist beliefs that Saturday was to be observed as the Sabbath, in the end Captain Stanley took this up with divisional headquarters and it was decided that Aventist soldiers would have Saturday's off just as the other men had Sunday off. This in fact made Doss even more unpopular than ever with his fellow soldiers as he was seemed to have it easy as he had Saturday's off, none were on base on Sundays to see him pull extra duties to make up for this."
"Good to see he's doing extra to make up for it." Rex says in approval. "Though I'm not too keen on the way his comrades treat him."
"Unfortunately that is how people can be." Plo states. "And it is even more unfortunate that nobody would see him doing extra work."
"One of the squad's other soldiers summed up the company's feeling about him and his Saturday's off complaining "You get more passes than the general". As Doss was a strict vegetarian at a time when it was unusual, it meant that the rest of the unit viewed Doss with such distrust and hostility that one man in his unit even warned him ominously "When we go into combat Doss, you're not coming back alive, I'm gonna shoot you myself."
"I'm sorry what!?" Rex calls out in rage. "He would shoot his comrade just because of a diet and his own beliefs!?"
The rest of the room had the same feelings towards the man who had threatened Doss. "That is just wrong." Ahsoka says with slight anger before Anakin put a hand on her shoulder, but his face was also of slight anger.
"Everyone please calm down." Vima says raising his hands. "Don't worry, you'll see things change soon."
"Doss eventually became an Army Combat Medic saying "While others are taking life, I will be saving it". The turning point for Doss and his relationship with his company came with their first 25 mile march with a full field pack and rifle, something they were expected to achieve in 8 hours. The other soldiers thought Doss would be having it easy as he would be carrying no rifle or ammo that day but his two canvas medical bags were almost as heavy and much more awkward to carry than any rifle. As the March progressed, the men started to suffer from exhaustion, numerous blister feet and dehydration. Some even passed out and all the time there was Doss always with a helping hand, even to the extent that at the end of the March he insisted on checking everyone's feet and administering medical aid where it was needed. By the end of that day, he had won the respect of his entire unit for his tireless devotion to his duty. For the first time he was treated as one of their own."
"Kix told me about his role as a medic, he became one of the most popular of the 501st after he healed everyone after a mission." Rex states. "I'd say he and Doss are pretty similar, except for the belief stuff. Also as for the run they did, wow even the boys don't do that kind of run."
"Perhaps there should be a training regiment added for the Clones to carry larger and heavier objects." Obi-Wan says getting Rex's eyes to go wide.
"Actually I think the Clones shouldn't have that kind of training. It would only take longer for them to be ready before they can be deployed." Mace says getting Rex to sigh in relief.
"Doss as the qualified combat medic of the unit was now responsible for providing first aid and frontline trauma care on the battlefield, he would be assigned to his unit into the war zone and be there with them on the frontline at all times. This was soon to happen for the 77th have had their first combat experience on May 11th, 1943 and Doss and his comrades were urgently being trained up to replace the combat losses and help expand the division strength. The 77th would end up being in combat officially for no less than 208 days, suffering a total of 9,212 casualties before the war would end."
Rex sighs getting everyone's attention. "Yeah I hate it when that happens. Because of this war whenever I get some Shinies who had to have their training rushed so they could go into battle to fill up our numbers, a good portion of them forget what to do in times of battle."
"That is definitely a problem, I'm just glad we aren't the only ones dealing with it." Anakin says getting nods from everyone.
Battle of Guam
1944
"Doss' first taste of combat was at the Battle of Guam, which was a bloody battle fought from July 21st to August 10th, 1944 to recapture the U.S territory of the island of Guam from a determined Japanese garrison of nearly 20,000 troops. Though according to the Geneva Convention, knowingly firing at a medic wearing the clear insignia is a war crime, the Japanese snipers and machine-gunners tended to ignore this and saw combat medics as easy and valuable targets to gun down. So medics in the Pacific Theater were often told to avoid wearing medical insignia in case it would make them more not less of a target."
"A good call." Obi-Wan says. "Definitely harder to hit a valuable target when they look like any other soldier."
"So what you're saying is I should wear Clone Armor so that I don't make myself a bigger target?" Anakin says with a smile.
"That wouldn't work, you show off too much." Obi-Wan replies with a smile.
"Doss was under fire nearly everyday during the battle and was busy doing his part in saving lives. Guam had shown Doss how cruel war could be as his unit was pushing forward through the jungle on their first day. A young fresh face recruited spotted a fountain-pen laying on the jungle floor and went to pick it up before anyone could warn him otherwise, a white phosphorus grenade exploded. The pen had been booby-trapped, the young man who picked up the pen his chest now a bloody mess had blood pouring out of an open wound, severe burns and sharp metal fragments covered his body and he was going into shock. By some miracle, Doss managed to stabilize his condition, administering care and helping to evacuate him and three other soldiers who had been wounded by flying red-hot shrapnel."
Hearing about the wound and seeing it with the animation, most of the room held their chests as if they actually felt something hitting it.
"That is something I don't want to be hit with." Ahsoka says.
"Agreed." Rex says. "Thankfully the Clankers aren't smart enough to pull off a trick like that."
"I'm surprised Doss managed to save the soldier's life." Aayla stated. "The soldier was lucky to survive."
"This was Doss' first taste of combat casualties, U.S casualties during the battle was truly appalling of the 59,000 US troops who took part in the invasion around one in six were either killed or wounded."
Battle of Leyte
1944
"Next, Doss and his unit was involved in the Battle of Leyte in the Philippines that ran from October 17th to December 26th, 1944, a vicious and prolonged battle which started with a huge U.S coastal bombardment and amphibious landing followed by heavy fighting the more inland the Americans went."
"A good strategy." Ki Adi says with a nod.
"Maybe we should pick up some of these strategies to get an even bigger edge over the Separatists." Mace says to himself.
"During a Japanese counter attack a fellow medic, Clarence Glenn had heard the call for a medic from a machine gunner he left for cover and went into the open into no-man's land to get the wounded man and was himself hit. Glenn was Doss's friend from back home and he couldn't leave him there so he and a litter bear, Herb Schechter went out to find the two wounded and dealt with them separately. Doss was attending the machine gunner who had a gash along his face while bullets whizzed overhead. Both of the wounded were alive, they made an improvised litter out of a poncho and tree branches to get the wounded men back to the aid station but his friend Glenn would die before he made it."
"A very resourceful way of trying to save a life." Aayla says.
"From this point on Doss would not look at the face of the men he was treating in case it was another friend, sadly his friend Herb would be shot and killed when he and Doss were carrying a litter as their silhouette exposed them against the sky to the enemy. On top of losing his friends, Doss was constantly hungry because the meat in the K rations conflicted with his vegetarianism so he could only eat the tasteless crackers and coconuts he found. On Leyte, the coconuts on the ground gave him diarrhea so he climbed the trees for fresh ones, at one point Doss was looking for coconuts it attracted poorly aimed Japanese machine-gun fire when they were killed by American soldiers. It was later discovered that they had been drunk on sake."
"I don't know what this 'sake' is, but I'm glad they missed their shots." Plo says.
"If I caught any of the 501st getting drunk I'd make sure to punish them especially if it was the middle of combat." Rex says sternly. "There is a time and place, and that was not one of those."
"One thing that shocked Doss during the most devastating times of the campaign, it was that the same man who made threats towards him during training at Fort Jackson now came to him for guidance and to pray for him."
"Well what do you know?" Anakin says with a smug look while crossing his arms.
"At least he was treating him with respect now and it was brave of him to ask for guidance." Padme says smiling. "Most people are too arrogant or afraid to ask for guidance when they need it."
Battle of Okinawa
1945
"And lastly for Doss and the 77th Infrantry Division was a battle that was to be the bloodiest battle of the war in the Pacific as well as its largest amphibious landing."
This got everyone's attention and interest as they watched on.
"The U.S objective was to secure the island as a base as it was just 350 miles south of the Japanese mainland and would be strategically crucial for any future invasion of Japan. The battle started on April 1st, 1945 exactly three years to the day that Doss first enlisted in the army and the battle was to last 81 days."
"Pretty long battle." Rex says surprised. "It must have been that important."
"Doss was assigned to the 1st battltion as their combat medic, on April 29th 1945, the 77th division was given the task of assaulting on a 400 foot high cliff called The Maeda Escarpment, this was nicknamed by the Americans as Hacksaw Ridge."
"Seems like a fitting name." Ahsoka says uneasy as she felt a little unnerved by the name.
"Before they the cargo net, Doss said a prayer for his comrades. When Doss' unit joined the assault and as they neared the top of the escarpment, they came under intense Japanese artillery, small-arms and machine gun fire inflicting severe casualties on the assaulting American troops. The Americans forces had sent in wave after wave of troops to try to dislodge a fanatical enemy based there who were well entrenched and camouflaged."
"Another reason I'm glad we are fighting droids. They can't camouflage very well." Anakin says.
"And this battle seems to have put the Americans at a major disadvantage. They would have to climb up and risk getting shot the moment they make it to the top. Add the well entrenched and camouflaged enemies and you are likely to lose." Mace states. "I'm curious to see how they pull this off."
"On May 4, while his unit was attacking a heavily fortified enemy position at the mouth of a cave, Doss went to the aid of four of his injured comrades, the lieutenant who led the attack on the emplacement had intended to throw a grenade when an enemy bullet hit him and delayed it blowing his hand off and wounding his comrades."
Anakin grabbed his hand as many winced at the sight of seeing the man's hand get blown off by the grenade.
"And he would have to live like that for the rest of his life. All of the soldiers that lost limbs." Vima says. "They didn't have artificial limbs at the time."
"That just shows how brave these men had to be to go fighting in such a brutal war." Rex said gaining even more respect for the people who put their lives on the line.
"Despite having to get within 25 feet of the enemy lines and under attack by enemy grenades at gunfire, Doss managed to get to the injuried men. He then managed to evacuate the men back to his lines one by one, during the night the Japanese continued to throw grenades and kept up the mortar fire. The American soldiers hid in rock crevices but the Japanese found ways to infiltrate and sneak up on them."
"The Japanese knew the land better than they did." Mace says. "Of course they would have the advantage of knowing areas they could infiltrate."
"Then on the next day, May 5th, he came to the rescue of a wounded artillery officer who had gone to see how the artillery guns were doing. Doss's left leg was now injured as he had felled the day before down the edge of it, he climbed up the cargo net with his first-aid kits his weight falling on his bad leg, finding him in a shell hole the officer had been struck by shrapnel that had made a hole from his chest to his back and Doss could hear him breathing through it, he was bleeding heavily. Doss gave him first-aid while under constant enemy gunfire and shelling, he put the dressings over the large holes in the Colonel's chest and back and administered blood plasma which dangerously exposed Doss to the enemy as he had to hold it up high. Doss's efforts here would be in vain as the colonel, carried back on a stretcher, died before he reached the aid station."
"And after being injured, he still helped his fellow soldier." Rex says with more respect for Doss.
"Later there were orders to take a vital Japanese pillbox position on the reverse slope of a hill that was holding up the American advance. Desmond Doss, once he had read his prayer, was happy to support the assault. The American troops threw gasoline cans at the positions which triggered a large explosion, all of a sudden a large Japanese counter-attack overwhelmed the American soldiers causing them to panic and rush back to the edge of a cliff. But despite this, Doss refused to take cover and while constantly under heavy fire by the enemy though being totally exhausted he spent hours carrying the wounded one by one to the edge of the escarpment, then to get the more severely wounded down he tied a rope to a tree stump and lowered them down the cliff on a rope supported stretcher to safety. When the stretcher kept slipping he turned to a new method, looping the rope around the wounded men's chest and legs to lower them down. Doss standing exposed to potential enemy fire was seen praying at the cliff edge as the men were being lowered down and later he had said he had been praying to the Lord to help him get one more and after that one more until they were all down."
"What they had forgotten to mention here was that he saved the Japanese wounded as well." Vima states.
This had gotten everyone's attention. Hearing that he spent and entire night in enemy territory, avoiding the enemy, helping his wounded allies and enemies, while being completely exhausted, had given everyone in the room inspiration, surprise, hope, and awe.
(AN: Don't worry I'm going to go more in detail soon.)
May 30
"Calculating the wounded men at the base of the cliff, the captain worked out that Doss had saved around 75 men, the Americans would eventually go back up the cliff and on May 7th would take the position."
"Saving 75 men in one night. I don't think Kix even managed to do that." Rex says with surprised etched on his face.
"That's only officially." Vima says getting everyone to look at him.
"What do you mean?" The Clone Captain asks raising an eyebrow.
"When the battle was over, the Captain had told Doss that he had actually saved over 100 soldiers, but Doss was modest saying that he only saved about 50. After a bit of arguing they both decided to compromise and make the number 75." He explained causing everyone to respect Doss for his modesty.
"By some miracle, Doss survived the whole battle totally unhurt but that was soon to change on May 21st in the confusion of a night attack, Doss tended to the American wounded risking being hit by both the Japanese and by friendly fire. Doss was in a shell hole with another American soldier when a grenade landed beneath him, his reflex action was to put his foot on it and was seriously wounded in both legs, his blood poured out from the impact of 17 pieces of shrapnel in his body. But he remained in his position for five hours tending to himself while also helping others who were wounded until a medic and pair of litter bearers could get to him but that was not the end of it that day. For as he was being stretchered to safety, they got caught in an enemy tank attack as they took cover, Doss spotted a critically injured man and insisted that he be taken back on the stretcher instead of himself while Doss waited for the litter bearers to return, he was found and helped back by a fellow soldier. Suddenly Doss was hit by a Japanese sniper's bullets and suffered a compound fracture to his arm, the two men took cover in a shell hole, realizing how badly injured he now was. Doss instructed the soldier on how to bind his rifle stock to his shattered arm to act as a splint, eventually pushing through excruciating pain he would make it back to the aid station."
"Even after being injured, he still gave up his spot on the medical list for someone more injured than him." Rex says with a smile.
"And even then, he still healed people." Padme says.
"The US Army recognized Dosses extreme bravery and he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroic and selfless actions at Okinawa from April 29th to May 21st,1945. Because of his heroic actions, many wounded men made it back home."
"And he deserved it." Anakin said in approval.
"And all of those men made it back to their families." Ahsoka smiles as she felt inspiration from Doss's actions.
"Desmond Doss will go on to run a small family farm with his wife Dorthy and lived to the age of 87."
"And in the end, he lived a peaceful life." Padme says softly as she looked over at Anakin. 'If only we could have a life like that.' She thinks.
"A true hero, this man is." Yoda says. "Learn something from him, we could."
"Agreed Master Yoda." Aayla said with a nod.
"Before I start the next one, there are a couple things. One is that while Desmond Doss was saving the soldiers that night, there was allegedly a Japanese soldier that had Doss in his sights three separate times, and every time he would pull the trigger, his gun wouldn't fire." Vima says getting surprised looks from everyone in the room.
"His weapon wouldn't fire?" Anakin asks incredulously.
"Allegedly. If it's true, call it the Will of the Force, call it Divine Intervention, call it dumb luck, but there was something protecting him that night." Vima says with a smile. "I like it when something unexplained like that happens."
"And what's the other thing?" Ahsoka asks with curiosity in her voice.
"Decades later, the Terrans created a Movie, or a Holo-Drama if you will about Desmond Doss. I will be showing the scene where he saves the soldiers." He says.
"Well what are you waiting for?" Anakin says with an excited tone. "Go for it!"
Vima nods and puts the scene on.
The Scene played out showing Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield) moving carefully at night. He enters a crevice where he sees three soldiers on the ground. He moves to the first one and leans in to see if there's any breath while he puts a hand on his neck to see if there's a pulse. After a moment of nothing he moves over to the second one, same result.
"Very good." Rex says in approval. "Always check for a pulse when you're a medic."
However when he started moving to the third one, it's revealed that the soldier was actually alive by firing a few shots of his rifle at Doss, but missing him completely. The scene quickly showed the Japanese Soldiers hearing those shots in the distance before cutting back to Doss and the soldier. Doss moves forward and covers the soldier's mouth while shushing him. "Pinnick, Pinnick. Pinnick. It's Doss. It's Doss. Be quiet. Be quiet. I got you. Are you hit?"
Padme and Ashoka both held their chests as they tensed up a bit in surprise at the gunshot being done while Rex and Anakin mentally praised Doss at being quick to stop his panicking comrade.
"Yeah. I can't see." Pinnick replied.
"Be quiet. Just be quiet. Hold still now. I got you. Hold tight." Doss pulls out a canteen and pours water over Pinnick's eyes. "There you go. Try now. Try now."
Pinnick smiles as he blinks a few times. "I thought I was blind!" He says getting a chuckle out of himself and Doss. But Doss soon shushes him.
Padme smiled at the small laugh the two had together.
"Shh... Keep it down. Can you walk?"
"I don't know." Pinnick replies.
"We got to get out of here, okay? Come on." Doss says as he goes over to Pinnick's top half and starts pulling him out of the crevice. Doss is then seen lowering Pinnick down the cliff with a rope and Pinnick is seen with two soldiers getting him out.
"Very resourceful." Mace said with a look of interest. "In a world without the Force or advanced technology, he still found a way to lower his comrade without harm."
"Good. Okay, we got you. We got you." The soldier says before it cuts back to Doss.
"Hey, Ted. It's me, it's Desmond. I'm gonna fix you up. You ready to get out of here?" Doss asks.
"Sure am." Ted immediately answers. It then cuts to Doss lowering Ted as well.
Doss looks at his bleeding hands and speaks. "Please, Lord, help me get one more. Help me get one more." He pleads as he moves on and almost trips as he puts his helmet on.
"He's exhausted." Ki Adi notes.
"Who wouldn't be after a battle like that?" Plo replies.
"Especially with how bad his hands look." Aayla states. "I would not have blamed him if he had given up halfway through the night."
"But himself, he would blame." Yoda says. "Dedicated to saving as much life as he can, he is."
Then the music picks up as Doss carries a soldier over his shoulders, he gets on his knees for a moment and grunts in effort as he lifts himself and the soldier up before it shows Doss lowering him down. Then showing Doss finding another soldier and he drags himself and the soldier across the ground before lowering him down. Then it shows Desmond crawling on the ground.
"Even with him being exhausted beyond all measures, he still tries to save lives." Padme said with a tear going down her face.
"Please, help me get one more." He pleads.
"One more. Help me get one more." He says lowering faster and with effort, as soon as the soldier is lowered he collapses for a moment but gets back up. "One more. Help me get one more."
"He refused to rest, even at his weakest. This man deserves to be remembered." Mace says with respect in his voice.
The last soldier is being lowered and he looks at his still bleeding hands as they shake. He looks at the camera for a moment before getting up. "One more." And with that the video ends.
"This man is a true soldier, and a true hero." Rex says giving Doss a salute as he felt nothing but respect for the man that never held a weapon.
Ahsoka smiled as she felt a tear go down her face. Seeing him save people and the music that played as he did so gave her inspiration to become more like him. Just like the Jedi he saved as many as he could, but he didn't have the Force and he didn't need it.
The rest of the Council had nothing but respect for Doss as they saw him as a true hero who would put the needs of others before himself.
"I'm glad you feel the same way I do about Desmond Doss, but now it is time to move on. I'm going to show you 'The History of the entire World, I guess.'" Vima states as he played the next video.
Dooku's Palace
Count Dooku was thinking about what he had just seen when Grievous spoke. "Bah! So the coward saved some lives without even wielding a weapon!"
Ventress looks over at the Cyborg General. "So you don't have any respect for what he did?"
"Why would I respect someone who could be barely be seen as a soldier?"
"So if you were damaged and he was the only one who could save your life, you wouldn't accept his help?" Ventress asks with a smirk.
"Never." Grievous assures.
Count Dooku speaks up. "I for one respect Desmond Doss and commend him for his efforts of saving the lives of his allies and enemies, but he was naive. He should consider himself lucky none of the Japanese attempted to kill him as he was saving them."
"Agreed." Ventress states.
Palpatine's Office
Darth Sidious sat and watched in interest. He had to give Desmond Doss his respect as not many would risk their lives like that, and even less would push on as much as he did. But this was unfortunately a waste of time for him. However the next Video that Vima was about to show him was going to be very promising, he could already tell.
501st Barracks
Kix, Fives, Jesse, Hardcase, Echo, and the other members of the 501st watched the horrors of the Earth War, the Monty Python sketch, and the recent video of Desmond Doss. And they all felt the same way about the war hero.
"Well Kix, it seems you have your work cut out for you." Hardcase says to the Clone Medic.
"Yeah I guess so." He replied. "I gotta admit though, I don't think I would have lasted as long as Doss did if I were put in his position."
"Yeah, and he was already starving and exhausted. I can only imagine how many soldiers he could have saved if he was at full strength." Fives says. "How many guys do you think he could've saved then?"
"I'd say around 200 or 300." Jesse says. "At the very least 50 more."
"Well in any case, Doss deserves to be called a hero, anyone with me?" Echo asks to which he got nods and words of agreement from his brothers. "Now let's see the history of Earth."
And that is it! God this chapter is long! I'd like to thank BulletstormX for providing the transcript of the Simple History video and the suggestion of putting the One More scene from the movie into the chapter. I've heard you all and I will be doing the longer way so you all can get quality chapters. Next is the video "The History of the Entire World, I Guess" by Bill Wurtz. Thankfully Bulletstorm pointed out a transcript I can use so I can definitely get the next chapter out pretty quickly. With that said, thanks for reading the chapter, thanks for all the suggestions, and I will talk to you all later!
