A/N: And here, we finally have another chapter for the story where in this chapter, the El Chupabcabra appears.
Scooby-Doo! and the Monster of Mexico
Chapter 5: Expect the Unexpected/He's Everywhere!
At night at the East side of town, Googie and Scrappy were sleeping to get their nap so as to get enough energy to stay awake at night long enough to spot the monster while Shaggy and Scooby got to the Mystery Machine.
"The mystery machine is actually on the east side of town. Why don't we do a thorough search of the van and if everything checks out okay keep guard right here?", Shaggy suggested.
"Ro-kay!", Scooby agreed before the two went inside and fell asleep.
However, an arm appeared, went below the van, and tampered with the brakes, causing the brake fluid to leak out.
Meanwhile, Alejo, Lilly, and Luis were walking down the woods when they heard a sound nearby.
"Escucha. Listen.", Luis spoke in worry before he noticed an owl on the branch.
"Just an owl.", Alejo assured.
"No seas un bebe.", Lily spoke before the owl flew away just above Fred, Velma, Daphne, Crystal, Amber, Jay, Dilla, Damien, Rowena, Willow, Thorn, Dusk, Luna, Ben, Lena, Simone, Sarah, and Diane as they came across a statue of a serpent which scared them.
"It's just a statue.", Fred sighed in relief.
"Yes, of Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent.", Ben stated.
"I've read about him. He was revered by the Aztecs as the god of all things good.", Velma stated.
"Look!", Daphne shouted before a man came out of a nearby tent.
"Bienvenido. Welcome.", the man spoke.
"Oh. Good, you speak English.", Daphne spoke.
"Yes, of course. Please, come in.", the man invited.
"Well, all right. I suppose if we must.", Simone spoke before she and the others went inside.
"Are you some kind of medicine man?", Thorn asked in slight surprise.
"I prefer 'curandero', but, yes. Medicine man, shaman, and healer all apply. How can I help you?", the man asked.
"We were hoping you can tell us something about El Chupacabra.", Ben spoke.
"Well, like everyone, I have heard the stories about the reptilian beast. But there is nothing in the ancient lore about a monster such as this. Our animal friends don't harm people for no reason.", the Curandero responded.
"So, they must've done this for a good reason, then?", Lena asked.
"That is right.", the Curandero responded.
"Then how do you explain the attacks?", Fred asked.
"The only evil force in this land is greed.", the Curandero responded.
"Greed?", Velma puzzled.
"But what does that have to do with this El Chupacabra?", Luna puzzled.
"Recently, people from the North offered huge sums of money to build businesses here and attract tourists. The locals turned down the offer, but when the strangers left, they vowed to return.", the Curandero explained as while outside the tent, a blue hand with claws appeared, revealing that the Chupracabra is spying on them.
"Hm, I see.", Fred responded.
"You do?", Daphne puzzled.
"I'm beginning to see it too. Clearly, they wanted to get richer, but because the locals turned the offer down, they seemed quite angry. At least as far as I know.", Ben responded.
"Who knew they'd be so petty and vengeful over money?", Dilla spoke.
"I know all too well what Greed does to people, especially to our friends from all those centuries ago.", Simone spoke.
"At least there are just as many, if not more, good people out there.", Lena assured.
"Yeah. And we're still here.", Diane agreed.
"So, what connection do you think there could be between the strangers and the Chupacabra?", Jay asked.
"The answers to all your questions can be found in the past. Oh. And did I also mention you're also in grave danger?", the Curandero responded.
"No, I think you skipped that part. Still, it's not something we aren't used to by now.", Damien responded before the Chupracabra left.
"We better get back to the others and warn them.", Sarah urged before they all got out of the tent with the Curandero speaking up.
"Be careful, my friends. In Mexico, things are not always as they seem. If you have any more questions, check out my website at www. ancientmexicanwisdom .com.", the Curandero spoke.
"Website?", Daphne puzzled.
"As I said, expect the unexpected.", the Curandero spoke.
"I don't think you said that once.", Rowena commented.
"Muchas gracias para sus palabras... sabias de avestruz.", Fred spoke, confounding the Curandero.
"What did you say to him?", Daphne asked.
"I just thanked him for his wise words of advice.", Fred responded.
"No, Fred. I don't think that's what you said to him.", Ben responded.
"Thanks for your wise words of ostrich?", the Curandero puzzled before going inside his tent.
"Teenagers. Go figure.", the Curandero added.
Meanwhile, Alejo, Lilly, and Luis were still looking around the woods.
"Alejo! Let's head back. We're getting nowhere!", Luis suggested.
"Okay!", Alejo agreed.
"Si.", Lilly agreed in unison before they heard an unearthly sound and saw green eyes under the cover of darkness, making Lilly gasp.
"Luis, come quick! Luis! Luis!", Alejo shouted before the creature tried to grab them only for them to run off and inadvertently fall off a cliff with his glasses falling off, although they managed to grab a couple branches (one each) branch and hold onto it.
"Eso estuvo cerca.", Lilly sighed before the Chupacabra roared, waking Shaggy, Scooby, Googie, and Scrappy up in the meantime.
"Do you hear what I hear, Scoob?", Shaggy asked.
"Ruh-uh!", Scooby responded before covering his ears and fright.
"Like, that's not gonna help much.", Shaggy spoke before he climbed to the driver's seat.
"Shaggy's right. Sounds like the Chupacabra started another attack.", Scrappy spoke.
"We better get out of here now, or else we become an El Chupacabra fiesta plate.", Shaggy urged before the others drove off, unknowingly leaving a trail of fluid.
Meanwhile, Fred and the others were walking down a dark path.
"None of this looks familiar.", Daphne spoke.
"Are you even sure we're going the right way?", Thorn asked.
"That's Polaris, the North Star. We should be headed in the opposite direction.", Velma stated.
"Trust me. I know where I'm going.", Fred assured.
"Says the guy who said silly spanish phrases.", Marcie commented.
Meanwhile, Alejo and Lilly were climbing up the cliff before Luis arrived.
"Alejo! Lilly! What happened?", Luis asked as he helped Alejo and Lilly up from the cliff.
"We were attacked by El Chupracabra. Didn't you hear me calling for help?", Alejo asked.
"No. Something hit me over the head and knocked me out. When I woke up, you two were gone.", Luis responded.
"The Chupacabra is still out there and we've got to find the others before he does.", Alejo responded.
Meanwhile, Shaggy was driving away.
"Like, the next time we go on a trip, remind me to pick someplace a little less exciting. Like, maybe a librarians' convention.", Shaggy spoke.
"I don't think there is a convention like that, Shaggy.", Googie responded before the group saw a red light with Shaggy trying to stop the Mystery Machine, but to no avail as the brakes didn't work and zoomed past a couple of cars, who could barely stop in time.
"Zoinks! The brake's not working!", Shaggy shouted.
"They're not?", Googie puzzled.
"And I think I know why.", Scrappy responded, pointing to an apparent trail of brake fluid from behind before Shaggy and Scooby screamed in terror.
"Hold tight, Scoob!", Shaggy shouted as he and the others drove through with the Mystery machine going even faster before Googie noticed a man and a woman on the street.
"Look out! Runaway van!", Googie shouted before the man and woman jumped out of the way, allowing it to pass by.
"Like, how do we stop this thing!?", Shaggy shouted before they went through the ice cream cart, smashing it, with Shaggy and Scooby happily licking the ice cream before they all noticed that they're headed toward the dock and screamed as they went above the water and across it, bouncing on the boat to get to the other side.
"Sorry, sir!", Googie shouted to the peeved sailor.
Meanwhile, Fred and the others were now lost in the woods.
"Okay, Fred, how do you say 'hopelessly lost' in Spanish?", Daphne spoke
"It looks like the woods get thicker up ahead.", Velma stated.
"Do you think we'll meet any wild animals?", Thorn asked.
"If we do, we'll chase them out. Or at least I would, because I am not in any sort of mood for this.", Simone responded.
"What kind of wild animals do you think we'd meet?", Jay asked.
"Mostly coyotes and jaguars and boars.", Velma responded.
"Coyotes?", Daphne asked.
"And jaguars?", Fred added in worry.
"And boars.", Velma responded just before the gang heard a growling noise ahead, and got surprised.
"We'll hold it back.", Crystal assured as she and Amber stepped forward.
"The rest of you need to go find Alejo and Luis.", Lena added as she and Simone stepped forward.
Sure enough, before they could run very long, they bumped into Alejo, Lilly, and Luis.
"Sorry, guys.", Fred apologized.
"No, we're sorry. We were hoping to find you close by, but not that close.", Alejo assured.
"We thought we heard El Chupacabra. Listen.", Daphne responded before an animal howl sounded from the distance, making Simone snarl as her eyes turned into cat slits and her fangs bared with her ears becoming pointy.
"That is nothing to be afraid of. It is just a coyote.", Luis assured.
"Hay muchos por aquĆ.", Lilly added.
"They are more afraid of you than you are of them.", Alejo added.
"Oh. I should've said this earlier. Simone hates anything dog-related.", Lena responded just before a coyote only yelped and ran past the others, even Simone, who gave a scoff as her eyes, teeth, and ears changed back to normal.
"That serves it right.", Simone spoke.
"Simone, I don't think it was going after you. Matter of fact, I think it was running. As if from something else.", Ben deduced.
"You mean something like that?", Dusk asked, pointing toward the Chupacabra, which raised its arms and roared.
"Jinkies! El Chupacubra!", Velma exclaimed.
"Like we said before, we'll take care of him.", Crystal spoke.
"The rest of you need to go. Now!", Lena urged before the rest of the gang ran before, while Crystal and Amber pressed their necklace pendants and morphed into their true forms, Lena and Simone turned into werecats as did Sarah and Diane, puzzling, if not taking the Chupacabra aback a moment before then roaring as he proceeded to attack nevertheless only for Crystal to pick up the Chupacabra and toss it toward a tree, banging it good as it got dizzy, making Crystal giggle from the sight as Amber before the Chupacabra recovered with a shake on its head and turned back with a roar with Lena and Simone then pouncing on the Chupacabra, distracting it long enough for Amber to pick up one of the trees and then whack it away, but not before Lena and Simone jumped off the Chupacabra, which also got tripped by Sarah and Diane, making it roar with a scream as it was sent flying in the air.
"Atta girl!", Crystal grinned.
"Not bad for a canine of sorts, I suppose.", Simone commented just before a honk from a van sounded nearby.
"Gangway, gang!", Googie shouted before the 6 transformed beings wound up picked up by Shaggy, Scooby, Googie, and Scrappy.
"Quick Pick-me-up, anyone?", Scrappy asked jokingly with Simone only sighing in response.
Meanwhile, the monster was sent careening toward the waters of the dock before it splashed into the waters, puzzling the sailor before it then went up and turned toward the sailor.
"Aah! El Chupacabra!", the sailor shouted before the monster turned back around and swam up to shore, proceeding to go into the city.
Speaking of the city, it was there that the rest of the gang stopped on the street as they are quite tired.
"I think we lost it.", Alejo spoke before the others, including Daphne, noticed something very alarming.
"Oh no! The Mystery Machine!", Daphne exclaimed.
"It's gone!", Fred exclaimed.
"But its brake fluid isn't. Someone must have tampered with the brakes on the Mystery machine.", Velma guessed.
"I just hope Shaggy and the others are okay in there.", Crystal spoke.
"Me, too.", Willow responded.
"Knowing them, they will be.", Ben assured.
"But just to be sure, we've got to find Shaggy and Scooby, and the others.", Fred urged.
"Shaggy!", Jay shouted.
"Scooby-Doo, where are you!?", Daphne shouted before the Chupacabra, drenched in water recently, showed up again and chased them again with a roar as the song "Sol - Kinky" played.
First, Fred climbed up a ladder with the Chupacabra attempting to climb up the ladder only for it to break the steps, splitting the ladder in two as a result with Fred stepping away before it turned its attention toward Daphne and chased after her only to have a bit of trouble in the chicken coop with which it burs its head out from the roof with a chicken on top of it, prompting the creature to get it off it as the chicken fled while the egg got crushed into a yolk. Meanwhile, Velma and Ben ran form the creature and placed their glasses on a couple of cacti to mislead it, which worked well as the creature got poked when it grabbed one cactus with its arms and then poked in the tail end, making it yelp in pain before it fled as Ben and Velma got their glasses back and took off before the Chupacabra ran until the Hex girls stood in its path, a magic dust circle drawn around them, puzzling it for a moment as Ben set up a wheelbarrow behind it before the Hex Girls then a swirl of smoke surrounded the girls with the full moon's light shining down toward the Hex Girls, changing their appearance as the Hex Girls each hissed as they grew pointy ears, fangs, claws, and feet resembling the Wildwind Vampires', and finally, wings on their arms as their skin grew pale once more, surprising the creature again before the smoke cleared and the Hex Girls hissed, making it give a shrill shriek of surprise as it ran only for it to step on a nearby wheelbarrow and then start going down the hill straight toward a fruit stand, breaking the shelves, and causing the fruit to fly everywhere right and left with the three girls chuckling to each other before high-fiving each other and flying off to join the rest of the gang at the movie theater where the Chupacabra recovered from its second surprise and cornered them all, that is, until Shaggy arrived with an unstoppable Mystery Machine, allowing the rest of the gang gets in the van while Thorn, Dusk, and Luna flew in the air alongside it before the Chupacabra turned to see the van leaving.
"Muchos gracias, Googie.", Lilly thanked.
"See you later, you big old lizard!", Googie shouted.
"Jinkies! Perfect timing. If you and the others haven't show up when you did, we'd be Mexican history.", Velma thanked.
"But now that we're safe from that giant lizardman, you might want to slow down a little.", Ben warned.
"I'd love to slow down, but I have some bad news for ya. Like, I can't! The brake's to the break.", Shaggy exclaimed before the gang panicked as the van went down.
"But I have some good news too.", Shaggy assured.
"Yes?", Alejo asked.
"And what's that?", Fred asked.
"We're out of gas.", Shaggy spoke in relief before the Mystery machine slowed down and stopped at the gas station.
"Wow. Right in front of a gas station. What are the chances of that?", Scrappy grinned.
"Must be the good luck from my Charlene's medallion.", Luis grinned, cradling the charm.
A/N: Looks like the mystery was just getting started with the Chupacabra's first nightly attack, although it didn't quite go according to plan as it wasn't expecting a few variables, albeit monstrous ones at that. :) And the translations in order are, "Don't be a baby.", "That was close.", and "There are many around here.". There is a fourth spanish phrase for Lilly, but I think we all know what it means. :)
