Hello everyone, and welcome to a new, ambitious, yet classical My Hero Academia story. I've gotten really into this story and think it is going to be a blast to tell, though I will likely need your guys' help at parts (You'll see). If you end up liking this, please check out my other works, and make sure to inform me in some manner so I can know to keep working hard on it. Without saying anything else, let's get started!

I don't own My Hero Academia or any of its characters.

Izuku Midoriya always knew he had an affinity for nature. He spent many of his afternoons hanging out in the forests outside of town, standing in the shallow parts of rivers, and even watching storms through his window. He adored camping whenever his parents would take him, though after his father left for business they couldn't go. When he was outside he always felt more at ease, and the idea of going camping again never failed to put a smile on his face.

Thus, when his friend who had just developed an explosive quirk, Katsuki Bakugou, suggested that they go messing around in some nearby woods, which just so happened to be off limits, it was no surprise that the 5-year-old Izuku agreed.

Katsuki was a rather stubborn, adventurous, quick witted, and self-centered boy. He desired to be the first one into an uncertain situation, and if there was danger involved, it only excited him more. The idea of travelling through foliage, with uneven ground, when they weren't even supposed to be near the area? A no-brainer for Katsuki.

Izuku was enjoying himself thoroughly at first, following Katsuki and his… peers? Gang? Friends?... Through the woods while taking in the trees and fresh air. Though the occasional taunt about his lack of quirk was frustrating, Izuku knew it was only a matter of time before his quirk developed, so he wasn't too bothered by the jabs. After all, his parents both had cool quirks, so why wouldn't he? Maybe it would allow him to shoot fire out of his hands, or even throw around people with psychic control.

Izuku's musings on what possible future quirk he would have were cut short when he felt the slight shake of the log they were crossing, and heard a yelp just in time to see Katsuki tilting before falling off the log. Izuku's hand shot out towards Katsuki when he began falling, and his shout for his friend seemed to carry throughout the clearing.

"KACCHAN!"

Katsuki grabbed his head as it throbbed immediately after his landing, the ringing sensation disorienting him for a few seconds as he tried to blink away the spots. When his eyes fully opened, the sound of footsteps drew his eyes to Izuku jumping down after him, landing in a crouch before falling on his butt.

While it wasn't a surprise to see him rising to his feet immediately after, what did seem unusual is how the water stopped rushing past Katsuki: moving from his towards his head from his feet. Instead, it was rushing towards Izuku, who was standing in front of him.

For almost 5 seconds, Katsuki felt the water all around him pulling towards Izuku, rushing to the boy's feet. Despite it's convergence around Izuku, the water level around him didn't seem to be getting any higher, and when Katsuki tried to get a look at his face, it was shadowed by his hair.

When the water finally stopped rushing towards Izuku, and returned to its prior flow, Katsuki heard multiple sharp inhales of breath coming from the log that they had been standing on. When he glanced up at it, he followed his friends' eyes back down to Izuku only to nearly gasp as well.

The boy's hair was now no longer a lush verdant green, but instead a deep ocean blue, and a bit straighter than it used to be. When his friend's head tilted up before turning to look at Katsuki, Katsuki couldn't help but note how his eyes were now a much brighter teal, seeming to have almost a blue glow. Beyond that, the boy appeared ever so slightly taller, no more than a few millimeters. Perhaps the greatest shock of all, as he stepped towards Katsuki, an ever so slight smirk reached his face as he spoke.

"How ya doing down there Kacchan? It's a bit shocking to see someone normally so cool fall like that" His voice had a slightly more confident, if not a little playful tone as he held out his hand lightly for Katsuki to take. Katsuki growled slightly, smacking the bluenette's hand away as he looked up at him.

"I didn't ask for your help, nor do I need it, stupid Deku!" The frustration in Katsuki's eyes blended with his confusion as he tried to figure out exactly what had happened to the boy standing in front of him.

"I didn't say you did need my help, did I?" Katsuki grit his teeth slightly at the condescending tone of the response he got, but his aggression was cut off when his friend continued.

"After all, victims need help, not heroes. But that doesn't mean that heroes don't also like help. Heroes fight bad guys together all the time… even All Might has a side kick I think. I offered my hand because I wanted to help, not because you needed it" The bluenette ran his hand through his own hair slightly as he spoke, trying to straighten some of it.

Between the change in the boy's tone, the change in his appearance, and even the calmness of his words made Katsuki pause and consider his words. After a second, Katsuki realized he saw nothing blatantly wrong with what had been said to him, so he nodded as he brought himself to his feet. When he finished standing up, he was a bit surprised to see a hand extended to him.

"Also… though I may be a part of him, I am not Izuku. So I would like you to call me Hayase" Dek – Hayase informed him.

As Hayase stood there, seeming to gain his balance as he looked around with a self-assured smirk on his face, he couldn't help but add. "And I don't think Izuku rushed to you because he thought you were weak. If All Might fell on his butt, I think he still would have ran over to try to pick him up"

While Hayase seemed to be looking at his hands, Katsuki stood in a slightly shocked state, mulling over Hayase's last few words with genuine thought. The shock of the situation made him realize that Hayase might've had a good point, and that it was simply in his friend's nature to attempt to help others. Before he could elaborate on that thought however, another one struck him.

"Is this your quirk then Dek-" He noticed Hayase's slight glare at the name, "- I mean Hayase? The change in your look and personality, that is" Katsuki inquired as he took a few steps around the bluenette.

Hayase paused for a second, as if mulling over his next few words before responding "No... the change… Or I guess my being here itself is Izuku's quirk. As for my quirk…" He stepped forward slightly, drawing his right hand back to his left before bringing it back out in front of him. Water erupted from his palms… or perhaps more accurately, his palms became water before shooting outwards, producing a small stream of water. The stream had a fair amount of pressure, and had around the same volume as a hose – not enough to be considered dangerous.

Katsuki recoiled a bit in shock, thinking that he had just witnessed one person with two quirks. But, if he saw Hayase as a separate person from Deku, then he really had witnessed two different people, each possessing their own quirk! The thought of it made his head spin a little bit, but regardless, his best friend now had a quirk, and an awesome one at that!

Katsuki stood up, feeling a smile return to his face as he walked through the stream and gave Hayase a hard pat on the back, before pausing for a second as a new realization hit him. In all the excitement and revelations, a core detail seemed to pass right by him.

"So what happened to Deku?" He asked carefully, feeling himself drop into what he thought was a fighting stance in case Hayase said he was gone. After all, if Hayase had done something to Deku, that would make him a villain, right? The blue-eyed boy's next words however, seemed to alleviate Katsuki's concerns.

"Ah, no worries, he's in here. We share a body, I just happen to be the person in control right now, I guess. I can get him back in charge now… but I will need to empty all the water I took in first, and he will come back eventually anyways" Hayase gestured to his head, suggesting Izuku's personality and well... person were still fully present.

"So how long would I have to wait?" Katsuki questioned, still wanting to see Hayase - the boy was pretty cool after all, but also wanting to see Deku. Hayase, held up a hand, palm towards the ground, shaking it back and forth in a 'kind of' gesture.

"Depends on how soon I use up all the water I took in. If we leave the river and I practice with my quirk, probably pretty soon. If we just walk until he comes back, it might be an hour or so. I did take in quite a bit of water after all" Hayase looked down proudly at his arm as he spoke, as if gauging how much water he had taken in.

"Come on then, let's just go back, Deku's gonna come back around when we get out of the woods" Katsuki declared, beginning to walk back out of the river, Hayase directly alongside him.

On the way back, as Hayase walked next to Katsuki instead of behind him, like Izuku usually did, they talked about his quirk, about Heroes, about how he was connected to Izuku, and about Izuku himself. Katsuki found himself appreciating Izuku a little more, now that he had someone who told him directly why Izuku always acted the way he did. On top of that, he definitely appreciated Hayase's rather relaxed and free spirited attitude.

As they approached the entrance of the woods, Hayase suddenly fell forward, hitting the ground before Katsuki could really move. His hair began to revert back to the ever familiar deep green, and he seemed ever so slightly smaller.

'Maybe it would be better if I was nearby whenever Deku swaps with Hayse or the reverse, so he doesn't constantly kiss the ground' Katsuki thought to himself as he stepped forward.

As Izuku looked up, he saw a hand stretched out to him, as well as a small smirk on Katsuki's face.

"Now that definitely wasn't very cool… Deku" Katsuki addressed Izuku in a teasing manner, though this time it felt more playful, clearly returning Hayase's earlier dig about him falling.

- Outside the Midoriya Household -

Izuku and Katsuki looked at the entrance door, they exchanged a small nervous glance and a smile. They had left behind Katsuki's two others... acquaintances? Friends? Buddies? Followers. Screw it, they were his followers. They left behind Katsuki's followers after they had left the woods, and since then, Katsuki and Izuku spent the entire way engaged in an excited conversation about how cool Izuku's quirk was… and about how Katsuki's was still more badass, of course.

Either way, Katsuki seemed genuinely pleased about how Izuku's quirk seemed to allow him to have an entirely separate person that had his own quirk living inside of himself. It gave the blonde a new close friend that he had already decided he liked - and one with a seemingly impressive quirk to boot.

Despite this, the two boys were still nervous. They were, after all, both slightly covered in dirt from their respective falls, and their parents were both speaking with each other beyond the door, having likely expected them to be back at least half an hour ago.

After playing a quick game of Rock-Paper-Scissors to see who would open the door – which Katsuki won – Izuku opened the door fairly quietly… though not quietly enough to keep both their mothers from springing to their feet.

Immediately, Izuku was swept into an embrace by his worried and slightly upset mother, as Mitsuki Bakugou stood a bit behind her, arms crossed, staring at her own son in a mix of annoyance and slight concern.

"Izuku… what happened to you?" Inko Midoriya, Izuku's mother, sniffled slightly, her grip tightening on Izuku just enough for him to slightly struggle with breathing in before she loosened her hold. He took a deep breath as he considered what to say to her, spotting Katsuki give him an excited nod from behind him.

"Mom… mind if you let go of me so I can show you something… I promise it will explain what happened" Izuku's words carried a slight bit more firmness than they usually do, especially considering how his tone usually switched between over-excited and meek.

"Of course Izuku, what is it you would like to show me?" Inko's words had a patient, motherly tone as she let go of him, taking a small step back.

After a second, his hair seemed to slowly change colors once more, his eyes following in taking on new shades of blue. He stood slightly more straight as he paused for a second, looking at his mother. Unlike his previous appearance however, this time Hayase appeared a bit more weak, not having so much vibrancy or even access to his quirk. Even so, he spoke up with a fairly light attitude.

"...Hey Mom… I'm Hayase… part of Izuku's quirk… and also your son" Hayase's words, far more nervous due to the awkwardness and confusion in the atmosphere, were met with one mother nearly passed out from shock, and the other nearly bouncing with excitement.

… It was going to be a long afternoon.

- Later that night -

Izuku sighed lightly as he felt his body sink into his bed, exhausted from his long day. After Hayase explained his existence, as well as the fact that he himself wielded a quirk, Izuku had taken over once more.

After taking in his mother's worry, and then pride, as well as Mitsuki's excitement, and then teasing, Izuku made a promise to Katsuki to hang out the next day. Then the Bakugous went back home.

He could barely believe he now had a quirk, or that it was such a unique and special one that was nothing like his parents' quirks. He had always figured he would end up with an offshoot of either his father's fire breathing or his mother's psychic abilities. One thing he knew for sure was that with this quirk, he could become a hero.

With his mind finally cleared of all his excitement and joy, Izuku finally closed his eyes and drifted off.

- In the Mindscape -

Izuku's eyes flickered open again, to a room that was fairly new to him, though he expected that he was going to be seeing all too much of it.

The room was a blue-tinted grayish color, having a very simplistic design, with one large circular table, located in the center of the room and taking up most of the space.

Around that table were currently 5 chairs, all fairly close to each other and of the same generally bland make… with two exceptions. Two of the chairs had arm-rests, one of them having a green coloration on the back of the chair, the other having a blue coloration. The green one was bigger than all the rest, with two slight spires coming from the upper corners of it.

And on the blue one… sat Hayase.

Izuku stood up from the chair he sat in, which was located in front of the table, the only chair detached from the table, which was firmly locked to the ground, and facing a massive screen which had just turned off.

The chair he had been sitting in was brown, the only chair made of wood. It was much larger than any of the chairs sitting around the table – as a matter of fact, it was probably closer to a throne than a chair.

As Izuku left the throne, walking to the table to sit down at the green chair, he saw Hayase drumming his fingers on the table, a clear smirk on his face.

"Well…" Hayase's tone was odd, a mix of pride, slight nervousness, and above all of that, an uncharacteristic seriousness.

"I think it's time I explain to you the full nature of your quirk."

And that's where it ends!

Before anyone asks NO, the room in the mindscape is not based on Inside Out (hence no control panel), though it is entirely possible we both are derived from a similar notion about how the brain works and how personality works. In a later chapter I will probably explain why I designed the room the way I did, but you will just have to wait until then.

I hope you enjoyed this chapter. I put a ton of work into it, and honestly do love how it came out to some extent, though there is still more for me to work on. Of course, I also have 3 other huge My Hero stories on the way if this doesn't catch your fancy.

Next time: Explanations, Troubles, Fights, and a new element!
