A/N: And this is where a more major difference starts to take place. Well, two of them. You already know about the first considering the last chapter. And so you know, there may be a certain difference of lyrics in a certain song near the end of the chapter. So, if you have notes about them, please let me know as I may be a bit sloppy with how I come up with my own juts to get them to rhyme. Also, John Goodman will voice Roxanne's father in the story (in both my version and my brother's, or rather OmegusXIII's). Other than that, enjoy. :)
A Goofy Movie
Chapter 4: Slight Change of Plans/"On the Open Road"
Back at high school, the final bell rang and students came dashing out. Max walked out with a smile on his face and a vacant look.
"Cool concert, lad!", the boy spoke to Max in awe.
"What?", Max spoke in surprise.
"Wellll, bud!", another boy spoke in awe before Lisa popped up next.
"Hey, Max. Wicked dance!", Lisa spoke.
"Thanks!", Max responded before Stacey came by and pushed the girl away.
"Forget it, girl. He's Roxanne's.", Stacey spoke.
Then, all of a sudden, someone started chanting his name, going, "Max! Max! Max!".
"Maximum! Maximum!", Bobby spoke before the cheerleaders started chanting his name, too, as did the entire student body with Max pleasantly shocked before the crowd cheered as Max danced his way home, even going on a skateboarder before then skating through a shortcut, cutting through a construction pipe before then skating underneath a couch, zooming past a baby but not without taking the fork, and finally, giving the board to someone nearby before arriving back home.
All I need is half a chance, a second thought, a second glance will prove I got whatever it takes.
Max: (lip synching) It's a piece of cake.
To stand out above the crowd. Even if I gotta shout out loud. 'Til mine is the only face you'll see. Gonna stand out. Stand out, hey. Stand out. (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah) Stand Out. 'Til mine is the only face you'll see. Gonna stand out so you notice me.
As soon as he got home, Max kicked the gate of his home open and walked through before noticing that Goofy and Amaya were loading the car with a lot of stuff.
"Going somewhere, Pop?", Max asked.
"Sure are, Pal-a-roony!", Goofy grinned.
"We're going on a camping trip.", Amaya responded.
"Cool! Well, have a good time, Dad! If you're gonna be gone more than a month, drop me a line.", Max grinned.
"But, Max, this isn't just our vacation. It's a vacation with me and my best buddies!", Goofy explained as he climbed up to the top of the car.
"Oh, Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse?", Max asked.
"No, silly! With Amaya and you!", Goofy responded.
Needless to say, Max was quite shocked as he then fainted before starting to come to as Goofy went over to him.
"Are you okay, Maxie?", Goofy asked as Max started regaining consciousness.
"Wha...What did you say?", Max puzzled.
"That's right! A vacation, son! We'll spend some real quality time together!", Goofy spoke as he then hugged Max, who grew extremely worried.
"I think I'm gonna be sick.", Max commented.
"Hey! Got a present for you!", Goofy spoke before he grabbed Max and proceeded to change his clothes, much to Max's protests, before he now has a complete fishing outfit on with an inflatable life vest.
Then, Goofy pulled a cord and the vest inflated, making Max look like a rolly polly.
"You look just like I did at your age!", Goofy beamed.
"Please don't say that, Dad!", Max requested.
"Wait! I saved the best for last!", Goofy spoke before he removed a case from behind his back and blew the dust off it.
"It's been handed down from Goof to Goof to Goof! And now, it's yours, son!", Goofy spoke as he opened it to reveal a fly casting rod.
"A stick?", Max puzzled.
"No, Max. That's actually a fishing pole.", Amaya responded.
"That's right.", Goofy agreed with a "Ahyuck" before handing said Rod to Max.
"Fishing? We're going fishing?!", Max exclaimed.
"Yup! Just like my dad and me did! Two best buddies fishing on Lake Destiny, away from it all.", Goofy responded.
"I don't want to be away from it all, Dad! I like...it all!", Max responded.
"Hey, look, Maxie! We're using the same map me and my dad used! We'll take the same route and make the same stops and see the same sights…", Goofy spoke as he then opened the map and laid it out on top of the car.
"But that trip'd take weeks, Dad!", Max complained.
"Exactly! Getting there is half the fun!", Goofy responded before Max pushed the map away.
"Put the map away, Dad. It's not gonna happen, I'm telling you, it's not…", Max began before Goofy spoke up.
"Careful, son. You'll wrinkle my past. And our future! What the map says, Max, we will follow.", Goofy spoke.
"That's very mystical and everything, Dad, but, uh, seriously, there's this party I have to go to…", Max began before Goofy interrupted, even banging the map lightly on Goofy's head.
"Oh, there'll be plenty of time for parties when you're older, Maxie. Why, when I was your age I'd never even been invited to a party! And look at me now!", Goofy grinned.
"Great, Dad.", Max spoke before Goofy opened the car door.
"Hop in, Maxie!", Goofy ushered.
"No.", Max refused as he closed the door before Goofy then had an idea and pretended to give a sad look.
"All right, then. Guess we'll just have to go…all alone. That's all. Just sit in the boat…all alone together. And talk to each other…all alone.", Goofy sighed.
"I guess so.", Max only responded brightly before Amaya grew irritated.
"Look, just get in, Max!", Amaya urged as she opened the car door with Max closing it before Amaya opened it with max opening it again.
"No!", Max refused.
"Just get in there!", Amaya urged.
"No!", Max adamantly refused.
"Fine! Then I will get you in the car myself!", Amaya shouted as she opened the car door again and this time, stuffed Max in.
"We're ready for take off! Set for adventure, Maxie?", Goofy asked as he went around to his door and got in.
"Why are you doing this to me, Dad?", Max groaned.
"'Cause I don't want you to end up in the electric chair!", Goofy responded before hugging Max, which deflated the life vest.
"The electric chair? What are you…?", Max puzzled.
"I'm not giving up on you, son. Together, we're gonna work this out.", Goofy assured.
"Work this out?", Max began.
"And we're doing this in honor of our mom, so you'd better come with us on this trip and like it.", Amaya added.
"But, Dad…", max began before Goofy interrupted.
"No buts about it, Maxie Boy! Your ol' pop knows best!", Goofy responded.
"But...", Max began.
"He said no buts.", Amaya interrupted as Goofy started the car and backed out before driving ahead, even running over his fence while turning into the street before driving forward.
"Goodbye, house! Goodbye, mailbox! Goodbye, pile of broken wood!", Goofy spoke.
"Goodbye, hopes. Goodbye, dreams. Goodbye, Roxanne. Roxanne! Dad, I gotta stop somewhere first! I have to talk to someone!", Max urged.
"Actually, I'd like to talk to someone, too.", Amaya spoke.
"Well, why didn't you say so?", Goofy spoke with a ahyuck before abruptly stopping the car near the driveway of a certain house after veering to the right with Max and Amaya getting out the car.
"Now, make it quick, kids. We gotta put some road behind us!", Goofy spoke.
Then, Max and Amaya walked up to the front door.
"You get to cancel your first date in less than an hour. Must be some kind of lame-o record.", Max groaned as he rang the doorbell.
The door then opened to reveal a rather intimidating person, who growled at Max.
"Hi! Is Roxanne home? Oh, My name is Max. Does Roxanne live here? Does she even live on this block?", Max asked nervously.
"All right, Max. Let me take over for a moment.", Amaya spoke before then clearing her throat.
"Hello, sir. My name is Amaya. We're friends at school.", Amaya introduced before the father ceased his growl and spoke.
"Oh. Hey, Amaya. Pleasure to meet you.", Roxanne's father greeted.
"Yeah. Same here. So, is it okay if we can talk to Roxanne for a moment?", Amaya asked.
"Oh, yeah, certainly. Anything for a friend.", Roxanne's father assured before going back inside to call for her.
"Hey, Roxanne! Your friends from school are here!", the patriarch shouted.
"How do you do that?", Max puzzled to Amaya.
"That's kind of a gift.", Amaya responded before Roxanne went outside and, much to her surprise, saw both Max and Amaya outside on the porch with a slight gasp before pulling herself together, surprised as she was.
"Hey, Max.", Roxanne greeted before Max mumbled.
"You wanna, uh, have a seat?", Roxanne asked before Max mumbled again, although he helped her sit down on the porch railing, but not before noticing Roxanne's father glaring with one eyebrow raised through a mail slot.
"Daddy!", Roxanne spoke.
"Ah! Sorry.", Roxanne's father apologized before moving back.
"I promise he'll be better behaved when you pick me up for the party.", Roxanne assured.
"Yeah, that's, uh, sorta why I came by.", Max responded.
"I'm really looking forward to it, Max.", Roxanne grinned.
"Yeah, I was, too...", Max sighed.
"'Was'?", Roxanne puzzled disappointedly.
"Well, you see my dad's on this stupid father/son kick, and…", Max began, somewhat peeving Amaya.
"Oh, don't worry about it, Max. It's just a dumb party.", Roxanne sighed.
"No, it's not! Roxanne, I really wanted to go with you. I…", Max began.
"No, Max, I understand. Really, sometimes these things happen…", Roxanne sighed.
"My dad surprised me, I don't even want to go, but I have no choice.", Max spoke.
"I'm sure I can find someone else.", Roxanne spoke, worrying Max.
"Someone else?", Max spoke worriedly.
"I'll just talk to you later...", Roxanne sighed as she walked away.
This left Amaya a bit worried for Roxanne, too.
"Um, uh, Roxanne, uh, my dad is, uh...", Max began before Amaya shouted.
"Would you like to come with us for the trip?", Amaya asked, surprising Max.
"Really? You'd let me come with you guys?", Roxanne asked.
"Yeah. You're my friend, Roxanne. And unfortunately, also his crush. Besides, whenever we go on a fishing trip like this, we're allowed to invite friends over and see if they want to come. Do you want to come?", Amaya asked.
"Well...", Roxanne began with a blush before turning to her father.
"Daddy! Max and Amaya are going on a fishing trip. Can I come with them?", Roxanne asked.
"Why, sure, it's okay.", Roxanne's father grinned before Roxanne giggled a bit.
"Thanks, Daddy.", Roxanne spoke before looking toward Max.
"I'd love to.", Roxanne grinned.
"Great!", Max and Amaya responded in unison before growing puzzled and looking away from each other for a moment just as the car horn honked.
"Come on, son! Let's get this show on the road!", Goofy shouted.
"Just a minute.", Max grinned.
"And Roxanne? You may want to pack an extra set of clothes because we might share the same tent.", Amaya grinned.
"Oh. Okay. Hey, Dad. I may need to pack for the trip.", Roxanne grinned.
"All right. Then, let's help you get ready for the trip.", Roxanne's father grinned before turning to Amaya.
"Oh. Uh, by the way, Amaya, thanks.", Roxanne's father grinned.
"For what?", Amaya puzzled.
"For being my daughter's friend.", Roxanne's father grinned before heading back inside to help pick out the essentials.
"Hey, Dad! We have a friend coming along with us for the trip! Is it okay?", Amaya shouted.
"Of course! Your mother always did let you invite friends to trips!", Goofy grinned.
"Wow. Amaya... Thanks. I did not see that coming.", Max thanked.
"Just so you know, I'm doing this for her. Not for you.", Amaya responded.
"Oh. Yeah. That...that makes sense.", Max responded.
Later, when Roxanne was ready, she, Amaya, Max, and Goofy were leaving the city as Goofy drove and ran a video camera at the same time.
"Day One: Well, here we are, out on the open road! Retracing the steps of my boyhood. And here's Maxie! Say, 'Hi', Max!", Goofy spoke as he then aimed his camera at the front of the car, the left side, and then toward Max and Roxanne.
"Hi, Dad. Roxanne, I'd like you to meet my Dad.", Max greeted.
"Enchante, Madamoiselle!", Goofy greeted as he took Roxanne's hand and kissed it, making her giggle a bit as Amaya watched with a sight grin, mostly at how happy Roxanne seems to be with her brother, Max.
"And there's Amaya. Say, uh, how about a little wave?", Goofy asked, somewhat startling Amaya.
"Uh, Dad? Maybe it's not the best time to run a video camera when you're driving.", Amaya spoke as she put her hands in front of the lens.
"What a kidder!", Goofy chuckled before he put the camera down and then turned to a list from one of his pockets.
"Fun games I used to play with my dad. Road Bingo. Twenty…", Goofy spoke to himself before then turning to Amaya and speaking.
"Hey, Amaya! Let's play a game. You think of a name, and I'll try and guess who it is. Uh, man or woman?", Goofy asked.
"Okay. How about man?", Amaya asked.
"Man, huh? Hmmmm. That's a toughie! Let's see. Walt Disney!", Goofy spoke, playing along with the game.
"Right.", Amaya grinned.
"I'm good at this! Now, I'll think of one. Hmmm.", Goofy spoke.
And then, all of a sudden, Max turned on the radio, which played acid rock, and started doing air guitar.
"Oh, you want to sing a song, huh? Me and my dad used to sing this one all the time!", Goofy shouted as he then put in an 8-track tape which interrupted the rock music and started playing "High Hopes" and sang along up until Max changed back to rock music.
Unfortunately, Goofy changed it back to High Hopes, even starting to go back and forth until Amaya break the ice.
"Okay, you two, that's enough! Look. This trip is going to be special and I'm not about to let it be ruined, especially not by you, Max.", Amaya scolded, making Max look down a bit.
"Don't worry, Max. I'm sure we'll find some way to get entertained along the way.", Roxanne assured.
Sure enough, the beat was starting to get established by the car key, especially by the car backfiring and the clatter and clutter of pans before Goofy started to whistle the tune. And sure Goofy started singing, as did Max, Amaya, and Roxanne along the way, although Goofy ran into a bit of trouble as he had to get pass several drivers before then getting back on the street, although not without eventually passing through the construction site overhead as Max exclaimed and held onto Roxanne tightly, slightly surprising her before then eventually coming across some Country singers, a Tow Truck Driver, a criminal in the police car (which prompted Goofy to look at the con and then at Max, even imagining him in a striped prison uniform before driving away quickly), Wendell, Treeney, Mickey and Donald (who were hitchhiking), an old lady, some nuns, and pretty much every available driver on the open road before Goofy eventually found himself having some trouble with the car with Amaya helping him sort it out before it was all patched up with Goofy then looking up to the road ahead before he drove into the sunset with a pan being knocked off the bag by the bottom of the bridge.
Goofy: Do you need a break from modern living?
Do you long to shed your weary load?
If your nerves are raw and your brain is fried
just grab a friend and take a ride
together upon the open road! (speaking) C'mon, Maxie!
Max: All in all I'd rather have detention!
All in all I'd rather eat a toad!
An old man drives that's such a klutz
that I'm about to hurl my guts
directly upon the open road!
Amaya: Me and Dad relaxin' like the old days..
Roxanne: And I just hope that we don't get towed
Max: My heart is ringing like a gong.
Roxanne: My heart is racing
Amaya: Please don't go wrong
Max, Amaya, and Roxanne: Out on the Open Road
Goofy: There's nothing can upset me
'cause now we're on our way!
Our trusty map will guide us straight and true!
Amaya: Oh, Mom, I need your help to fix our broken family (Max screams when he sees something up ahead)
Roxanne: And I hope we grow closer when we do
(Wilhelm scream)
Goofy: (singing) Me and Max relaxing like the old days!
Max: (singing over Goofy) It's far worse than dragon breath and acne!
Goofy: (singing) In a buddy-buddy kind of mode!
Max: (singing over Goofy) I'm so mad I think I may explode!
Goofy: (singing) When I see that highway I could cry!
Max: (singing) You know, that's funny, so could I!
Both: (singing) Just being out on the open road!
CW Girls in pickup: (singing) Howdy boys! Is this the way to Nashville?
Tow Truck Driver: (singing) Watch it, Mack! or you'll be getting towed!
Con in paddy wagon: (singing) I'm in no hurry to arrive
'cause I'll be turning sixty-five
the next time I sees the open road!
Small Driver: (singing) Just a week of rest and relaxation,
Large Wife: (spoken) Yeah!
Small Driver: (singing) And the odd romantic episode!
Max: (spoken) Very odd!
Mickey: (singing) And it's Californ-eye-ay or bust!
Little Old Lady From Pasadena: (singing) Look out you dirtbags! Eat my dust! From now on I own the open road!
Goofy: (singing) It's me and little Maxie, my pip-squeak pioneer!
Nuns: (singing) They're pardners forever "Westward Ho!" (spoken) Yeehaw!
Max: (singing) Could someone call a taxi and get me out of here to Beverly Hills 90210?
All: (singing) Oh, every day another new adventure!
Every mile another new zip code!
Max: And look out, slow down, or you'll hit that truck
Goofy: I'd like to, son, but the gears are stuck
Amaya: You can't turn here! It's a one-way street!
Goofy: Just hold on tight and stay in your seat and...
(speaking) You're all right, fellas?
Max: I guess so.
Roxanne: Where are we?
Goofy: (gasps) Look, Maxie!
We're on the open
All: Road!
A/N: So, what'd you think? Pretty cool, huh? So, I noticed that there was a demo version of the song and I wanted to include some of it as a finisher for the song with Roxanne and Amaya involved this time around. Shame I couldn't find the video of the demo version, though. Either, way, it certainly looks like the road trip is kicking off to somewhat of a good start this time. If you have ideas for what should happen in the next chapter, please let me know in your reviews or PM's for it. :)
