Now this scene is completely new to me. Just me, Meguri-senpai, Zaimokuza, and Kawasaki, all in one room is a thing I haven't experienced before. What makes this particular scene new is because most of the people in this gathering is invited by me. Sure the service club room can be crowded sometimes but none of them are invited by me.
Meguri-senpai walked closer to the two new officers. "Oh, so you're Kawasaki-san and Zaimokuza-kun. Welcome to the student council!"
Both the mentioned students bowed their heads, returning the greeting. Well, that's kinda surprising for Zaimokuza. I really thought he's not gonna show his manners and just straight up say something like "Mwahahah! You should be the one bowing down to me, as your reign is now over." Wait, if I'm the one thinking about it, does that mean I'm still at my chuuni phase?
To make the two as an official members of the student council, I went to my desk and took the necessary documents to be filled out by them. They're not hard to find because they're literally the only documents laid at the top of my desk. I then distributed the documents to them.
"After you eat your lunch, please fill these out and give them to me afterwards so that I could put my stamp on them and make you official members."
Now that it's out of the way, I can finally start eating my lunch, which is actually just a snack compared to common Japanese lunches. I mean, it's just a bread filled with stir-fried noodles and a canned coffee, different from what everyone in this room is having which is all a carefully-made bento.
Come to think of it, we're actually eating together right now which is commonly done by group of friends. The only difference is that we're scattered around the four corners of the room. Actually, forgot what I've said earlier. This is far from what a group of friends do and I'm more than fine with it.
That was until the sole extrovert in this room can't stand the atmosphere anymore. "Aah! Why can you all stand eating alone?!"
This is kinda silly if you ask me. Me, Zaimokuza, and Kawasaki, are the loners of Sobu who each claimed their individual lunch spots. Me at the stairs at the back of the special building, Zaimokuza at the library (though I still don't know how he manages to bring his food inside), and lastly, Kawasaki at the rooftop. If you think about it, we're basically the four horsemen of loners if we include Yukinoshita which is always having her lunch alone at the club room. Unfortunately, she's now not alone there anymore as Yuigahama is joining her there. Huh? Four horsemen? Am I really sure that I'm over my chuuni phase?
Senpai grabbed her lunch and went to my desk. After positioning herself in front of me, she called the other two to come to my desk. But why my desk though?
"Come here, you two!" senpai said.
As expected, the first to come is Zaimokuza. Why expected? Because despite his loner tendencies and (failed) holier-than-thou attitude, he really wants to be with someone and hates to be left out. That kinda takes me back to Yuigahama's birthday party when he kept on following me around. She then let him join out of pity.
Now that everyone is gathered here on my desk, it's now my turn to feel uncomfortable. For one, it's my first time eating together with everyone here aside from senpai. However, after all this unnecessary trouble of gathering them here, I'm not the one to complain to this trivial matter just so that I could regain my lonesome back.
The lunch went well, not too loud nor too silent. Although it's just Meguri-senpai keeping the conversation going, at least there's some dynamic going on there. Truly, she saved me from the inevitable awkwardness that may fall inside the office.
...
The last period of the afternoon session ended without any major occurrences. Even Hiratsuka-sensei's homeroom discussion is a bit shorter than usual.
As I'm blankly staring at the board while my classmates are leaving the classroom, there's an important matter that I forgot while assigning my fellow student council officers. That is I forgot about the treasurer. I was too caught up in my success in convincing the other two on becoming an officer that I thought I already completed the lineup.
Now the real problem is that I don't have any acquaintances left that I could bother with this kind of thing. I was quick on deciding on Zaimokuza and Kawasaki's case only because I know they don't have any clubs, or rather not active with them due to their loner tendencies. This time it's different. I can't ask Yukinoshita and Yuigahama because they're basically the core of the service club. I can't also ask Totsuka about this because like the two girls, he's the tennis club captain. So yeah, that's basically all my acquaintances. No, Hayama's clique don't count as they're the famous kids in class, of course anyone would know them to some extent but can hardly be counted as acquaintances.
After a lot of students got out of my line of sight, I read something on the board that can't be considered pleasant. Well, it seems that I'm the one assigned for cleaning duty for the day, along this Kogure guy, who's face I can't recall, as my parter for the said task.
I then noticed Yuigahama walking towards me. "Hikki, are you going to the club today?"
"Uh why shouldn't I?" I replied.
For some reason, she made a confused expression then cleared her throat. "I thought you would be saying things like "I'm the student council president now so all of the other unnecessary activities should be removed from my task list."."
"Wait, was that supposed to be an impersonation of me? That sounds disgusting!"
Her voice impersonation was not bad by any means, I may even say that it was on point, at least if a female version of me would say those things. And unfortunately, she also sounded like a scumbag which is undeniably true about myself.
"That's the point, hehe. I'll be going now, Hikki!"
And just like that, she even managed to hurl an insult right at my face before disappearing from the class. Well, I guess that's all of them, now I can start cleaning the classroom... I was wrong, the class representative whose name I don't know is still at the classroom and he's moving the desks to the back.
"Hikitani-san, we can start cleaning the classroom now." Ah, so he's the one called "Kogure".
To be honest, that mispronunciation of my name always irritates me.
"Okay... but please, stop calling me that."
"Huh? Your name is Hikitani, right?"
"No, it's Hikigaya." How come they didn't know yet? I'm pretty sure Hiratsuka-sensei calls me always during class hours and she's even too loud while doing so.
"Okay, sorry about that Hikigaya-san."
Ignoring the potential start of small talk, I quickly did my share of cleaning inside the classroom. Even with everyone wearing indoor shoes, the classroom is still filled with dust. Now I can't imagine how dusty this classroom will get if everyone is wearing their outdoor shoes.
At last, we're done cleaning the classroom. I checked the time on my phone and it says that there's still 45 minutes for club time. Good, at least I can still attend to more than half the allotted time for club activities. That's only because I can't endure a washboard blabbering about the new student council president's lack of time management.
"Um... Hikigaya-san, can I have some of your time?" the class rep suddenly spoke to me. Hey, what's with your choice of words? I really sounds like you wanted to confess to me or something. Sorry, I don't swing towards Ebina's fantasies.
"Okay, make it fast."
"Have you already chosen your officers for the new student council?"
"Yeah but we still don't have a treasurer, what about it."
"Can I take up the position. I mean, I just wanted some few things added to my records so that I can get a college recommendation or something." So basically, the same as what I've used in baiting Kawasaki into joining the council.
"Uh sure, just go to the student council office and fill out that document on top of my desk there."
"Thank you, Hikigaya-san."
Well, not that I have any reason to refuse him as I don't have any acquaintances left to ask for the position. If someone wants it then who am I to refuse, unless they're one of the annoying famous kids as I don't want to spoil the introverted atmosphere of the office.
Speaking of the council, I feel that everything was offered to me on a silver platter. From my candidacy up to the choosing of officers, everything went smoothly. But strangely enough, I find this absolute convenience unsettling. That's because aside from free food, I hate to be the receiving end of charity and pity. Yes, I'm still bound to the idea of truth being the cruel mistress and lie being the nice girl. With this happenings going on, it really feels like fate is being a nice girl to me. And last time I was involved with a nice girl, it didn't end well.
This negative mentality isn't what I always wanted to have. What I wanted is to be a realist but negativity always finds its way to me for some reason.
But it seems that I have to set aside these negative thoughts for now as I've now reached the entrance of the service club room. I slid the door open and noticed the student with a different school uniform- scratch that, she's not in a uniform at all. College students surely have their control of their schedules.
"Yahallo, Hikigaya-kun!" Haruno greeted me.
"... good afternoon, Yukinoshita-san... " I still don't understand her business her, well, aside from visiting her sister which is unlikely.
Seeing that my chair was been relocated and used by this visitor, I took another chair at the back and placed it at my usual spot.
"Say, Hikigaya-kun..."
"Uh what?"
"How does it feel to be the boss now?" As expected, she'll immediately know what happened. This woman really is scary! I have nothing to do with her yet she still managed to be updated about me. I wonder how will things turn out if she'll go full yandere on a person she's interested with.
"Boss? more like the slave of the student body."
"Hahaha! You never disappoint me with your responses!"
'Uh... okay, so can you leave now?' look is the only thing I saw on Yukinoshita's face when I took a quick glance at her. Yuigahama on the other hand looks... Well, anyone will be uncomfortable around Haruno because her presence is way too overwhelming in more ways than one.
"I guess it's time for me to leave. Bye bye, Yukino-chan, Gahama-chan!" she then stood up and went to the door. However, before she opened it, her gaze went to me. "Ah, Hikigaya-kun!"
"What?"
"It seems that we won't be having a drink anytime soon." Uh, what does that have to do with me?
"I'm underage, what would you expect?"
"You know that's not what I meant. Take care of Meguri-chan, 'kay!" Take care of Meguri-senpai? Is she a dangerous person that I need to watch my back from her?
Before I could reply, she popped out my sight as the club room is now filled with the usual three people. But at least I could spend the remaining time the way I'm used to. I just hope there will be no clients today as I just want this period to be the usual.
A/N: I seriously don't know how to divide the chapters.
So yeah, about the name of the class rep, when I rewatched S1 E10, it was showed that he is wearing a round eyeglasses, and first character that comes to mind is Kogure Kiminobu from Slam Dunk. Well, I just recently re-read Slam Dunk before writing this chapter that's why the characters are still fresh from my mind.
Also, I just wanted to complete the "8man recruiting council members" arc(?) already so that I can focus more on HachiMegu development on the next chapter. Hah, I hope I could pull that off well.
