Prelude:

"Interrupted Peace, The Beginning of Another Journey"

A man is walking through the forest in relative silence. Strapped behind him are a few firewood meant to be burn to keep things warm. As he slowly walks back to his home, the wind passes by and softly brushes over him.

He stopped and take a moment to appreciate the serenity of nature and the peace he deserved.

The reward for...all the conflicts he faced in the past.

And in the past it stays.

He wished no more to remember, this is his life now.

Far away from anything, in a different universe, in a new world, where he would relish the solitary as much as he can. He thought of that because, after all the times he had to face in the past, an unwanted immortality is one of his many rewards. Truly, it is much more of a curse than a blessing.

He softly sighed, he needs to stop thinking about such thing.

He continued on his track to his home.

A small cabin can be seen amidst the crowded trees. He made his way towards it and he came upon a small clearing - just enough to fit the small cabin in. Stumps were everywhere, there were assortment of logs used just for the cabin in case it collapse and there are a few stationaries here and there like a sawmill, crafting bench, a loom and a furnace. All used to build the humble small cabin.

With all said and done, he went inside the cabin which lacks furniture and decorations.

It matters not to him, he simply just use this small cabin for rest and perhaps also for him to just sit down and stare out the window.

When one tastes the bitter for too long, even the bland can taste sweet.

That's what it was for him.

Staring out the window, smiling to himself as he watches the show that is nature.

Sometimes, he could various animals passing by and it's quite relaxing watching them go in their ways and their instincts, curiously sniffing or pecking and even stared at him...before bolting away. Considering what happened back then, this was not surprising of course since even before all of this, animals always scared of him...at least the non-hostile ones.

Like the-

"Ugh..." He massages his temple, there it is again.

Remember the things he fought in the past.

He already attained this lifestyle, why is he still remembering what happened?

He let out a long sigh before he grabbed a few firewood and threw them at the fireplace. Using Magic, he lit the fireplace. Finding the warmth to be comfortable, he sat down on the wooden floor and watches the fire and wood cackling.

And just like that, he stared for hours until night arrived in which he stood up and went to his bed to sleep.

A dull day for a bitter man is certainly a sweetness he needs.

That's all there is to it...

His eyes shot open.

He immediately sat up as his ears picked up something. Someone is currently in the outskirts of the forest, the sound of fires and yelling as well as curses was as clear as day thanks to his inhuman hearing capability. However, it seemed more like they were chasing something rather than trying to burn the forest down.

Quickly, he equipped all of his armors and weapons, all hidden just in case they aren't hostile and ran towards the outskirts. Once arrived, he hid in the trees, seeing...priests?

He frowned in confusion, "Priests? What are they doing here...?" He muttered quietly to himself.

"Find the two! The Mamono must be purged! The other one is to be punished for cooperation!" The one that seemed to be a leader told them, waving his torch angrily.

So that's where the sound of flames were coming from.

"B-But, Head Priest! This forest is t-the Dead Man's Woods!" One of the members replied, others began to sweat whilst the Head Priest looked uncaring.

Hearing the name of the forest, the man hidden in the trees narrowed his eyes. He never knew that the forest he lived in was called "Dead Man's Woods". How ironic...

"Dead Man's Woods? Is that supposed to be some sort of dangerous indication for this unnamed forest?" The Head Priest questioned, he looks uncaring but his tone rather carries interest.

"There has been a few people disappearing in this place a few months ago! Both Humans and Mamonos alike, rumors say they're devoured by this forest itself!" He exclaimed which was taken as an exaggeration by their Head Priest.

"That is nonse-"

As if the timing couldn't be more perfect, a mysterious wind swoop over the trees, causing a rather ominous feeling to the forest. To make things worse, they felt like they were being watched, the Head Priest began to sweat profusely. They all look around, some gulped but all of them shared terrified expressions on their faces. All of them had chills run up their spines and hair standing up.

The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and the strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.

The man hidden in the trees uses this as an advantage.

Taking out a brownish-red staff with round yellow gem and some kind of dark-green fabric tied, he summoned a small dragon. The small dragon however, is no mere dragon. Once it was summoned, it lets out a mighty roar that soared into the celestial realms - an otherworldly roar no dragons of this world could do.

"S-Screw those kids, I'm not risking my life here!" This time, it was the Head Priest that yelled it and he runs away first.

The other priests, also terrified, followed after him. "W-Wait!" They all chorused as they ran away, leaving their torches and some things behind.

He dismissed the dragon as it disappears and drop down to the ground. He quickly stepped on the torches and picked a few things up. One particular thing caught his eye, it was an emblem. He picked it up and examined it, it was emblem with a golden cross in the middle and there were feathers around it as if to signify some sort of angelic relation. This could only mean one thing...

"A religious group...but what?"

He quickly shook his head and dismissed those thoughts before placing the emblem in his inventory and went away. As he slowly walks back to his small cabin, he remembers something.

The priests mentioned children, they must still be around here.

Why were they hunting children?

And they mentioned Mamono...?

What is that?

Too many questions left unanswered, but he didn't want it to be answered lest he wants to get too deeply involved. Coming into a new world, all he desires is a peaceful life away from violence, blood and conflict. He just wants to lay low and rest.

"Where could they be...?" He looks around before sighing and closed his eyes, "They're pretty quiet for children getting chased."

The noises around him muffled as he focus on one specific sound.

Critters, no.

Twigs, no.

Animals sniffing, no.

Rustling bushes, no.

Droplet of water, no.

Hisses of snakes, no.

Soft breathing, two of them.

There it is.

The man opens his eyes, "Found you." He said before following the direction of where the voice was.

It was quite far, these children are nimble. He prefers to do things that aren't crucial slowly so he merely walks towards the direction. The rays of the sun shot from the horizon into the forest, rays of light permeates through the leaves.

The man concluded that the children were chased throughout the night.

As he neared, he pushes the branches away as the children are hiding in a secure place. He came upon a tree and under it, are two children. One is definitely a Human and the other is presumably what they call "Mamono".

Rays of light blinded their vision once a few bushes were shoved to the side by someone. They blocked the rays as they regain their senses once more before the light was blocked by a person. The silhouette of a man shadows over them and yet, his figure doesn't seem intimidating at all.

In fact, it gave them a sense of...security.

The ray of light was the blight and his body was protecting them.

The ray of light that is the Order of the Chief God...
