Amalgamation
After school, Izuku found himself visiting Yui's home. His mind kept going over his first trial in school, and despite winning his match he felt like anything but victorious. He had made himself an oath that he would never steal another quirk. He wasn't a fool, he knew all the different quirks he had were nothing more than tools, and he had every intention of making full use of them. Stealing more quirks though? That was something he couldn't, wouldn't do because then he would be no better than his father.
Then he trained, he trained his Inferno as much as he could. What did it matter if he had to restrain himself, and never be able to use the fulls scope of his abilities, his Inferno was still one of the greatest Quirks out there. He could be a hero with that... but what if he couldn't? What if he needed more? What if the scenario from the exercise was real? Using his Quirks, he could put an end to it in seconds... if he was using the full scope of his powers, he could have ended the exercise before it ever began. Despite all of that, he couldn't exactly do that, could he?
Despite knowing he could use his quirks to be an effective hero, he couldn't exactly walk around U.A telling people that he had more Quirks than he was even aware of. 'Yea, you see, I am the son of the man who almost murdered All Might and has broken every law under the sun multiple times in the past 150 or so years. Please let me be a hero!'
He could imagine that conversation, worst case scenario they'd throw him in a prison and forget he ever existed. In the best-case scenario, the Hero public safety commission would tie him down and make him work for them, just like Hawks. After all, even they would recognize the usefulness of his quirk, they just would never admit to it Izuku thought bitterly. Doomed to keep himself suppressed and hidden forever, from heroes and villains alike.
"And how does that make you feel?" Izuku turned towards and blinked as he saw Yui sitting beside him. She was tall for her age, her hair white as snow tied in a single braid over her shoulder. She was rather slim and had a lanky body. She wore largely round glasses that made her eyes pop out of her thin squared face. Her gaunt cheeks were riddled with freckles matched that looked rather odd paired with her strong jawline. She rolled her wheelchair closer to him, inspecting his face. "You were thinking out loud." She was perhaps the only human out there who could understand every word he said, her quirk was simply called High-Q. Simple and efficient as far as the names go, her intelligence was so heightened that once she read something, she could understand it almost immediately. Despite that, unless her quirk didn't seem passive, it always confused him to no end but she had to somehow activate her quirk... or maybe she had just learned to keep it under wraps. Whatever it was, she had two personalities... one was the girl who had graduated and learned pretty much everything the local colleges had to teach by the age of 9. The second was the kind girl who babysat him all those years ago.
"I thought I got rid of that habit a long while ago." He grumbled bashfully.
"Don't change the subject green bean." Her lips were pursed in a thin line, as her brow furrowed. "How does it make you fell? To have to hide your quirk? To suppress yourself from society as a whole?"
"What's this? Therapy?" Izuku responded sarcastically before he sighed. "Bitter? I don't... I get these were not my quirks, that someone was born with them... but now they are mine. Should I not able to use them for good if I want to be a hero?"
"Why?" She asked. "Why do you want to use all of your Quirks? Is Inferno not enough to be a hero?"
"It's like your father said, not using everything you have is irrational," Izuku responded feeling a bit defensive.
"That's a little hypocritical don't you think?" Yui smiled with a glint in her eye. "If you truly believe that, why not use All For One as well?"
"That's different." He answered not meeting her eye.
"How?" Yui could be quite bullheaded when she wanted to, especially when it came to All for one. She had always tried to get him to use it as far as he could remember.
"Look it just is okay?!" Izuku snapped, he felt heat rising to his cheeks, anger, shame for snapping at his confidant? He didn't know. "I... I don't enjoy hurting people."
"What does that have to do with anything?" Yui's brow was furrowed in confusion.
"It has everything to do with it." Izuku mumbled, "I... sometimes I dream, of people. Strangers I have never met, sometimes shouting and screaming at me... accusing me of stealing their Quirks. Sometimes they are just there, in pain and darkness by their lonesome." It was the first time he had spoken of his dreams, to anyone. For so long, he had just thought ignoring them would make them go away. "I often think about them you know? The people whose Quirks I have... I wonder, if they are alive, how scared or angry... maybe how much in pain they may be."
"Izuku, you can't think like this." Yui smiled softly as she grasped his hand. "It is not your fault, your dreams are just a manifestation of your guilty conscience."
"But what if they are not?" He retorted, "What if they are something more?"
"I am home!" Izuku announced loudly as he entered. He already knew something was wrong when his mom didn't respond. Dropping his backpack, he rushed into the house as his heart hammered in his chest. Only to find nothing was wrong, his mother was sitting at the table by herself, deep in thought.
"Mom?" Izuku called out only to receive no answer. He moved closer and gently laid a hand on her shoulder causing her to squeak and jump to her feet in surprise. Big wide verdant eyes stared at him before his mother registered who it was and her shoulders slumped in relief.
"Izuku, when did you get home?" she asked with her eyes furrowed. "How many times have I told you to announce yourself?" Her lips were set in a thin line and he could very clearly see annoyance build up a little.
"I did mom," He said waving his hands in surrender. "You weren't paying attention, is everything alright?"
"E-everything is fine... it's just," Mother fretted before sighing in defeat. "I know we have talked about this, but, honey are you sure about this? This whole Hero business? It's just, we've spent so long trying to hide, do you think it's wise to go into a very popular school like this?"
'How long has she been trying to suppress her worries for my sake? she must have been so stressed.'
"Mom, we've talked about this..." Izuku began unsure of how exactly to proceed. "I get you're scared..."
"I am not scared," His mother nearly snapped at him... which was something she never did. "I am worried, more than anything, I am worried about you."
"Mom, there is nothing to be worried about," Izuku tried to explain. "I can take care of myself, you know this. He's gone, All Might killed him, not even he could have survived having his head blown apart like that. I was there remember?"
"B-but what if someone else recognizes you at the sports festival?" His mother fretted, "Maybe one of his old followers? Or someone who knows what quirk he had and wants to use you? or maybe one of his enemies who wants revenge?"
"Mom! calm down," Izuku nearly shouted grabbing her shoulders. "We can't live in fear like this. Whatever else he may have been, he was careful above all. He made certain no one knew of us. The only one who could recognize me is Kurogiri, and we don't even know if he is free or not. He may have been arrested, even if he wasn't... he has no reason to kidnap me and certainly not harm either of us."
"I know, I know, I just can't help but be worried." His mother fretted with tears building up in her eyes.
"We'll be fine I promise." Izuku hugged her, "Once I go pro, we'll have nothing to worry about." As he stood there hugging and reassuring his mother that everything would be fine, he couldn't help but wonder if he was, in reality, trying to convince himself instead.
In the morning, he walked to the school alone for the second day in a row. Bakugo was still ignoring him, he wondered if he should be worried. Ever since the battle trial a few days ago, he had been oddly silent and distant. Yesterday had been a very slow day, after the excitement of the first couple of days, it was a pretty normal day. History, English, and Mathematics took most of their day. The only thing that could be considered exciting was choosing a class Representative and the media break-in during lunch. Much to his own astonishment, he had gotten three votes... relinquishing the position to Iida was a surprise to his classmates but he didn't feel like he deserved that position. Not when he was lying to them all.
Their Heroic portion of the day consisted of going over their battle trials the previous day and writing a report on the performance of one of the other students... including what they did right, wrong, and suggestions on what actions they should have taken. Izuku himself had been assigned Uraraka's performance. He wondered who had been given his match to write on.
While the lack of action was a little boring after the excitement of the first two days, it made sense to him. Being a hero was so much more than just punching people, and they needed to give the students some downtime to heal their bodies. Surprisingly enough, it had been Aizawa-sensei who had taken charge of their Heroics class instead of All Might.
Izuku took a long deep breath before opening the door to the classroom. Thankfully he was a careful individual so he noticed his hands. The skin on his hand must have been rubbed off in the washroom while he was cleaning his hands after lunch. Pulling on Bio-manipulation he created a thin layer of skin over the holes in his hands. It was something he was born with, he and his father had both theorized those holes in his hands were what All for One used to take and give quirks. He looked around to make sure no one saw him... after all, it would be quite awkward having to explain why he had a hole in the middle of each of his hands when he had a pyro quirk.
Aizawa considered himself a rational man. He had always known that he wasn't exactly suited to direct frontline combat as far back as his own class days at U.A. Whereas other heroes such as Endeavor or All Might could rely upon brute power... he relied on skill. He relied on training and instinct to guide him and it was that instinct, that gut feeling that told him that one of his students was hiding something.
While he didn't like to take early stances, the class he had been assigned was particularly talented. Not just his own class 1-A but from what Vlad was saying, 1-B as well. This year's batch was exceptionally promising, when he had conducted the Quirk assessment test, he had fully expected to send someone home. As expected, he had but not for the reasons he had assumed, he didn't send Mineta to gen-ed because he lacked talent or potential, no it was the attitude. His head wasn't in the right place, and he had no time to fix that, nor any patience to deal with potential sexual harassment complaints.
Still, the boy had potential which was why he had not outright expelled him and instead transferred him to the gen-ed course. If he proved to have fixed his attitude, he would personally present the case of letting him back in. Despite having expelled Mineta, the class had performed far better than expected. Usually, he had to expel two or three and sometimes up to even four students to motivate the students.
Despite what anyone thought, he wasn't heartless, he didn't just expel students outright, he gave them a chance. He and Nezu made a show of expelling or moving some students around, to set some fire under their feet and motivate them to do better. Then they were given another chance, if they proved to have learned and performed better, they were allowed to continue, if not, well the expulsions stuck. The entire class he had expelled last year was now studying as class 2-A was proof enough of his methods being efficient.
While they had potential, whether or not they would achieve it and manage their chosen profession remained to be seen. While the media liked to glamourize and romanticize the hero profession, it was anything but a fantasy. The real world was a harsh dark place, the things that go on behind the scenes, the things HPSC did to maintain the facade of a perfect peaceful society was enough to drive a grown man to insanity. Only time would tell if these kids had their heads in the right place and enough steel in their hearts to succeed in this profession.
Despite all the talent these kids possessed, they were also perhaps the most troublesome batch he had been assigned in a while. Three students, in particular, were giving him red flags for different reasons. Bakugo Katsuki, Todoroki Shoto and Midoriya Izuku. Three students with the most combat potential in the whole class.
Bakugo Katsuki, incredibly talented, with a very powerful quirk and a drive to match it. His issues were with his attitude but a different type of problem than Mineta had. His inability to work with anyone, volatile temper, pride, and his ego. The way he had to run off on his own to combat an enemy team, how he had refused to cooperate with his partner. Then despite winning his match, how he had slumped around the whole day was a very clear indication of a big fish in a small pond learning that there were other bigger fish. His temper and pride would have to be reigned in or it would cost him in the long run.
Todoroki Shoto... the boy was a classic case of an anti-social overpowered result of a quirk marriage. Aizawa wasn't stupid, it was very obvious and given what he knew about Endeavor's attitude, it wasn't hard to see why he had been avoiding using his fire. While at first glance, if he didn't know any better, he might even praise Todoroki for practicing restraint against his classmates. Then again, he did know better and Todoroki had no interest in restraint given how he had thrown an iceberg at Midoriya. Ignoring his recklessness of using so much power on a classmate, if he was truly so desperate to win, using his fire would have helped. Even in a video, he could see Todoroki beginning to shiver from the frost on his body... if it had been a real-life incident against a villain, Todoroki would have been severely damaging himself with hypothermia. Aizawa didn't know the details of Todoroki's homelife but if he knew the boy was severely handicapping himself and if it wasn't fixed, one day it would get himself and innocent bystanders killed.
Lastly, the biggest headache of his class, Midoriya Izuku. His slight seeming obsession with Yaoyorozu on the first day aside, the boy was polite, courteous, friendly, and capable. His teachers from middle school had nothing but praise, his own co-workers reported the boy to be diligent... all in all a good student at first glance. However, if you paid enough attention, the cracks in his appearance started to appear. Aizawa knew he was hiding something and he had no intention of investigating or interrogating a student. Teenagers with powerful quirks like that often had secrets, and he was welcome to his own. Aizawa had decided to keep a distant eye on him, but the very second day of the trial had forced him to reconsider his stance.
To simply put, he was good... too good. It was unlike Bakugo... that boy had the drive to be the best in spades, talent in abundance, and a powerful quirk to match it. Yet when he fought, his raw talent, skill, and instinct were very clear to see. He was rough, brutish, while smart in his own way, he very evidently self-taught and relied on his instincts to guide him. Midoriya, on the other hand, was subtle. The way he checked his corners, how he was always ready to spring into action, and how he fought were methodical. It was very similar to Todoroki in fact... it was training. Endeavor training his son to be a hero was expected, an earnest child from a sub-urban area with no connection to the hero society having similar training was not. Even still, he would hardly blame the boy for being prepared, if anything he would even praise him to be prepared for the hero course.
Then he had decided to tackle Todoroki's glacier head-on. Suppressing the urge to chew All Might again for letting the two of them engage each other as if they were trying to kill themselves, the fact that Midoriya had canceled Todoroki's ice so easily bothered him. Aizawa had keen eyes, and it was easy to see... Midoriya wasn't even phased when the smoke had cleared. He had seen him take out the zero pointer and he had assumed it was perhaps the results of his full power. Now he wasn't so sure, Todoroki was shivering and panting when all was said and done... Midoriya wasn't even breathing hard. Releasing that much firepower almost instantly, and not even being out of breath?
Todoroki was the son of the second-ranked hero of the country... and if his hunch was correct, the product of a quirk marriage. Midoriya, on the other hand, was the son of a desk working salaryman and a housewife. There was something wrong with the picture. If their fight had gone on, Aizawa was almost certain Midoriya would have won. Todoroki was starting to get desperate and slow while his opponent was not.
He had read the description of his parents' quirks, how had those two merged to create perhaps one of the strongest pyro quirks in the country? Was it truly just a genetic lottery? Just a lucky mutation?
All Might could be excused since he was new at teaching or perhaps he was simply too powerful to notice the woes of people without the power of a mountain in their arms. Aizawa wasn't All Might, he noticed those details... when their clash had occurred, Midoriya was mid-air. For a moment his heart had nearly stopped... that explosion while Midoriya was in mid-air with no way to anchor himself would have blown him away. He had wondered all the grim possibilities, an impact from that height with that much force... it could paralyze, if not kill someone. Aizawa was glad that the boy was safe and sound, yet that didn't change the fact that it could and should have severely injured Midoriya. In spite of that, he had walked out of the smoke without any injury whatsoever.
That shouldn't have been possible. Aizawa sighed tiredly, three days in and he already had problem children on his hands to deal with. "That's enough, we are here," Aizawa called out and disembarked from the bus. Thankfully Iida was too earnest at his role so he didn't have to bother himself with small matters such as forming lines and having his students get off the bus in a timely manner.
'USJ is still a sight to behold.' Aizawa mused as he entered the facility, he was aware of the students chattering in excitement as they walked behind him. He was dimly aware of them coming to a halt as he walked to stand beside Thirteen.
"Where is All Might?" Aizawa frowned.
"He seemed to have run out of time." Thirteen whispered holding three of her fingers. (1)
'The irrationality of that man... to waste his precious hours on some petty thieves.' Aizawa sighed in irritation, "Well, it can't be helped. Let's just finish this by ourselves."
"What's that? We starting already?" He was dimly aware of that being Kirishima's voice as he drowned out of the rest of the chatter.
His body was already pumping adrenaline by the time he turned around. "Huddle up and don't move, those are villains." Aizawa barked harshly staring at the portal.
''They are the ones who infiltrated the premise yesterday.' Thirteen realized with urgency and slight panic lacing her voice. Aizawa wondered how many times in her career as a rescue hero had she actually engaged against villains.
In many days to come, Aizawa would wonder if it was the adrenaline pumping through his veins that stretched his senses or if it was just the echo. Whatever the case he could hear every word out of the mouth of the villain covered in hands.
''Where is he ?'' He asked lazily. ''Don't tell me I brought all these people for nothing? All Might, the Symbol of Peace, isn't here ?'' He paused as if he was thinking about it. ''Will killing the kids make him come back ?''
"Thirteen protect the students!" Aizawa ordered, "Kaminari, try contacting the school with your Quirk." Without even waiting for an answer, Aizawa jumped headfirst into a hoard of approaching villains. His eyes burned with the familiar sensation of his quirk. He didn't let the element of surprise fade as he started rushing through the hoard of villains. His scarf dancing in his hands as he took out body after body.
'They are mostly grunts, numbers to slow us down.' Aizawa thought with a frown as he kept dodging and counter-attacking, taking down as many people as possible with as much efficiency as he could muster. In the back of his head, he was aware of the four villains standing behind the rest.
'That one seems to be the leader.' Aizawa thought staring at the man covered in hands. Trophies of his victims or perhaps just a sick fashion statement he thought morbidly. The behemoth black creature with a bird's head seems to be his bodyguard. Is that a horrific mutation or is he a genetic experiment? Aizawa wondered thinking back to the case he had worked many years past. (2)
The third one was the teleporter, black mist was all he could see... he was likely to be the most troublesome. The final member of their group was covered from head to toe in some black leather and light armor. Not even his hair was visible. 'Another bodyguard? Or maybe he is the one with the blocker quirk? Judging by his size and posture, he looks to be the same age as my students.'
Aizawa jumped back to gather his breath and his thoughts. For that one moment, he thought that maybe having All Might in his class from next time would not be so bad after all.
Chapter end.
(1) A little trivia for you guys. In one of the official guide books, Thirteen was confirmed to be a female and we can actually see a part of her face later in the manga when her helmet gets broken.
(2) This one is actually a reference to Vigilantes. The canon prequel to My hero academia. If you haven't read it, I would suggest doing so, it is amazing. Eraserhead's actually quite a prominent character in it and we get his backstory as well.
Midoriya Izuku-Quirks:-
All for One: The ability to take and give Quirks with a touch. The time it takes to acquire a Quirk depends on several factors such as the target's health, willpower, Quirk itself, and mental state. Further research is required.
Appraisal: Ability to research Quirk based on the information present to the user. If the user can acquire a certain amount of information this Quirk can fill in the blanks by itself and reveal almost everything about the target's Quirk. Note: the results provided may or may not be accurate depending on the data present to the user.
Inferno: Inferno is the result of a combination of several pyrokinetic Quirks. This amalgamation of Quirks is unique and has resulted in one of the strongest pyrokinetic Quirks in existence that allows its user the ability to generate, transmute, and manipulate fire. It also allows the user the ability to regulate heat in their vicinity, inside their own body, and extreme heat resistance. The true extent of the Quirk is currently unknown.
Spring steps: This Quirk allows its user to replicate the effects of a large spring from their legs. In particular, the user can absorb a great amount of force and reapply it in the opposite direction. Note: This Quirk does not turn the user's legs physically into a spring.
Bio Manipulation: Bio Manipulation is widely considered to be one of the most complex and complicated Quirks in existence. The Quirk allows its user total and utter control over every single function of their body no matter how big or small. The user can manipulate their body down to their very genes. The downside of this Quirk is that the user must have full anatomical knowledge of their body and whatever process they are trying to manipulate. The true potential of this Quirk remains largely unknown. Additional data required.
Calory Burn: This emitter-type Quirk is largely energy manipulation-based. It allows its user to turn their calories into a unique signature of energy which can be used to augment the user's physical capabilities. How big the augmentation is up to the user and how much energy is allocated to which factor of their physical ability. The Quirk results in enhanced metabolism in its users and the intake of calories is dependant on its usage. The downside of the Quirk is noted to be excessive aggression if too much energy is produced in a short period of time. The limit of what is considered 'too much' is dependant on its user's mental and physical well-being along with their emotional state. The true extent of this Quirk's abilities remains unknown to this day as all of its users have been noted to become extremely aggressive, downright hostile, and have reported complete loss of motor function and memory loss of their actions before they could reach the maximum amount of energy produced. Note: There are no known physical side-effects of this Quirk's over-usage. All the side effects are noted to be psychological which is extremely unusual for a Quirk of this kind. Additional data and further research is required.
Several unknown Enhancer and possible Emitter type Quirks. Additional data required.
