The camera moved slowly, surely, directed by someone on the other side of the world. Britain had many cameras and he took advantage of it, so many questions that he wanted answered as he spotted the man who had drawn his attention the day before. The man who had appeared in the middle of London, in an alley, with an owl on his shoulder under a grey sky. Appeared right over a piece of street even as something was burned directly into the cement. A symbol that he could not find anywhere online.
The man was clearly an alpha, tall and sturdy by human standards, but more quietly intimidating. Muscular like a runner was built, shoulders loose under a dark green shirt. Bright green eyes, messy black hair and a scar on the human's forehead that branched out like lightning bolts. As he watched through the camera, the man's eyes narrowed and then the man sighed, reaching out a hand to stroke the owl's feathers.
He zoomed the camera in and watched as the man turned to look at the owl. He wondered if the man's eyes actually glowed or if it was due to the bright gleam of the mid morning sun.
"Hedwig… I think we need a less conspicuous appearance. How about a dog instead of an owl?"
The owl hooted in what he would have considered irritation before chirping in an affirmative. The owl slowly toddled down the man's arm before alighting down to the ground. The man let out a noise of consideration, bent down to be at level with the owl, and then reached out to tap the owl on its back. The owl changed before the camera and in the next few seconds, a white shepherd stood in the owl's place, white flecked with spots of grey. The dog's eyes matched the owl's in a brilliant golden color. The man nodded in approval, reached out to stroke the dog's head and stood back up.
The dog woofed quietly, its ears standing up as it trotted off to explore the alley.
The camera paused on the owl-dog and then turned back to the man, taking in his appearance. Those green eyes were narrowed, perhaps in worry before the man shrugged and started off towards the main streets of London.
The camera snapped off a shot of the man and owl-dog before losing the connection.
"Tony, can you come over to the office?"
"Obie, I'm busy," Tony pouted as he tinkered on the undercarriage of one of his cars.
"It can't wait, Tony, my boy," Obediah remarked through the intercom. "Your father's will was dug up by one of our competitors."
Tony shrugged, shivering at Obie's word for him and hating it. When his father had found out he was omega, he had withdrawn from him even more and started to look for ways to cure him or to turn him into an alpha. No son of his would be anything less than an alpha. And that had involved going to scientists and researchers and many other doctors. He hated it then and he hated it now. He was just fine with who he was, the playboy omega.
He was 39 years old and he still wasn't settled with an alpha. The tabloids were always filled with headlines about him though by now, he didn't pay attention to anything reporters or paparazzi said about him.
"Fine. What's in the news this time?"
"Your father is forcing you to marry a suitable alpha," Obediah replied, shrugging. "He stipulated that you were to wed someone of high standing. That's what the will says."
"Obie, you know I don't give a shit about what my father wanted."
"The board won't budge on this issue, Tony. They want a CEO who is settled."
"Not me then. Fine. Jarvis, buddy… make up a list of potential alphas."
"Your father said I should do it."
Tony frowned and glanced up again at Obie, seeing his grimace. "Did he say something about better judgement?"
"Something along those lines."
"Fine. You do it then. Arrange my fucking marriage." Tony rolled his eyes and then got back to work, sliding back under the car to look at the undercarriage. His stomach roiled as he did, hearing Obie walk back up the stairs to the living room in his Malibu house.
"Remember, Tony. I'll get back to you with a few names in a week."
He heard Obie walk away, heard him walk up the stairs and then heaved out a sigh. "I'm having my fucking marriage arranged, J."
"I heard, sir."
"Arranged marriage."
"Fuck."
Tony stared up at the undercarriage of the car, reaching up to run his fingers through it. "Who would want to marry me? I'm almost too old to carry children. I have a drinking problem. I'm..."
"Sir, I could research Mr Stane's choices after he gives them to us."
There was a hesitation in Jarvis' voice, unlike anything that Tony had ever heard from him before.
"There's no need, Jarvis. Obie will find someone good for me. I trust him."
Jarvis stayed quiet for a few minutes and Tony got sucked into finding a smaller screwdriver for that one hole…
"Very good, sir."
"Who's this Harry Potter guy? There's gotta be something wrong with him," Tony muttered, rubbing his eyes as he looked at Obie's list. It was a long list of names, most of which he knew. Some were rivals in the business, one was the guy who had found the will and Tony immediately struck the alpha's name off. One name he didn't even remotely consider and that was Justin Hammer. Tony shuddered at just the thought of marrying that guy. Just no. Fuck no.
He didn't want someone who wanted him for his name, for his connections. He wanted someone who would at the very least leave him be. Tony had no such regards as to love. Most arranged marriages between alphas and omegas in high society were for producing children, not love. And this would be a business match, nothing more.
He didn't want a domineering alpha in his home either. No alpha to say what he can and can't do. Most of the alphas he had been with in the last few years tried to tell him what to do, tried to tell him to be something he wasn't. They had promptly found themselves kicked out, with suspiciously placed warnings on their phones and email.
"The information that I have found on him is…"
"J?"
"It is peculiar."
Tony raised an eyebrow as he sat down on the couch in the living room. The windows were open in the room, the large floor to ceiling ones he loved, and he could hear the ocean roaring. The sun was out and shining and there were no clouds in the sky, at least none that he could see.
"Peculiar? Jarvis? What would be peculiar to you?"
"His information and history are nonexistent beyond his college years."
Tony's eyes narrowed and he reached out to grab his tablet, pulling up the photo of the guy on it. The file said the man was 39 years old, same age Tony was, but he didn't look it. He looked to be at least 35, maybe a year younger. He had messy black hair that came down to his shoulders and bright green eyes that seemed to glow in the photo. Tony's heart skipped a beat at the sight of the guy and unfamiliar warmth gathered in his belly, not unlike the warning he got before a serious heat. A weirdly shaped scar stood out on his forehead and Tony zoomed into the photo, seeing the lightning bolt structure of it.
The info on the guy said he went to college at the University of London and was born in the city. No where in the file did it say where the guy worked but given that Obediah had put his name on the list, Tony was pretty sure the guy was alright. Obediah wouldn't have put a career criminal on the list. The man was an alpha but it didn't say whether or not he had had previous relationships or previous marriages.
"Why would Obie have put him on the list? This guy isn't in business and he isn't high up in society."
"I would not know why Stane put him on the list. Are you interested in him?"
"Have you found anything worth striking him off the list? Any arrest warrants or criminal history?"
"No."
Tony shrugged. "Well, if he's on the list, he's on the list. He looks… attractive enough. It's not exactly making me warm but…"
"You want to climb him like a tree, sir."
Tony glared up at the ceiling. "Jarvis! How could you?! I do not want to climb him like a tree and where the heck did you learn that phrase, mister? I definitely did not teach you that."
"Sir, I am connected to the internet."
"Shit. You might be right about the whole tree thing. I'll tell Obediah that I pick him."
"Tony, baby boy… You picked him?" Obie called, looking at him through the phone camera.
"Obie, you're not my alpha. Besides, all of the others are my rivals. How could I marry a rival when they would make me take their name?"
"Fine. I'll arrange the wedding. Do you have the latest weapon ready?"
"Of course I do. Who do you think I am?"
Within several hours of the information leaking, the press went wild. The internet did too, with Twitter going down once. Everyone was shocked that Tony Stark was getting married though after Howard Stark's will being found… He supposed it wasn't too great of a surprise. For most people, he figured, it was a surprise that it was a man. For his friends, it wouldn't have come as a surprise. Rhodey knew he liked men. Pepper knew after walking in on him one too many times. Obie knew after another alpha sued the company complaining that Tony wasn't 'omega' like enough for him.
Tony drove over to the airfield to meet with the guy he had chosen the day after, his stomach in knots and his back covered with sweat. He had spent the last eight hours in his workshop, making sure the latest weapon was ready for the military to test drive.
Pepper stood next to him, occasionally taking a peek at her boss, before looking away.
"Pep, did I choose right?"
"How could I know that? Obediah did say that you had to choose someone within two days."
Obediah had sent a Stark jet to collect the man from London, wanting to get him to Malibu fast to control the press over this. The man who was wedding Tony Stark had readily agreed to the schedule, clearing it with wherever he worked ahead of time. They had scheduled the wedding to happen the day when Tony expected to go into heat.
Most weddings between alphas and omegas these days tended to happen around the time of someone's heat. Obediah and the board both wanted it to be a traditional wedding though no one expected Tony to still be a 'pure' omega. His heats were infamous in the press, all of his heat partners going to the paparazzi happy. Though there were those alphas who thought he would just lay down and take it. Tony tended to skip those ones.
"Still don't know where he works or what he does," Tony muttered, watching as the Stark jet taxied into the airport. "Could be a serial killer for all I know."
"Obediah wouldn't have added him to the list if he was a criminal," Pepper remarked, glancing at him and shrugging. "Besides, he checks out with the government. There's nothing on him that tells me we shouldn't be doing this."
She was an alpha but one that Tony had always been comfortable around. And there was the boss assistant thing too. He had never been one to cross that line.
The jet slowed and the set of stairs rolled over to the door of the jet as it opened up and Tony shielded his eyes from the sun as he took in the sight of his future husband. Harry Potter, he of unknown origins. Tony only knew that the guy had been born in England and had gone to boarding school somewhere in Scotland for 7 years. And then nothing… That was the sum total of what he knew of the guy. And that he had a dog. Potter had apparently asked if he could bring his dog with him.
Harry paused on the landing of the stairs after stepping out of the plane and Tony looked him over, not seeing anything that would indicate what the man did. He wasn't wearing a suit or anything formal, just a shirt and jeans that fit him well. Comfortable looking too. The shirt featured a long, floppy pointed hat that looked like a wizarding hat, like there would be robes and a wand paired with it. A pair of sunglasses covered Harry's eyes and Tony wondered if his eyes were really as green as they looked in the photo.
The man wasn't too tall but he was at least a few inches taller than Tony as he started down the stairs towards them. Tony kept his eye on the door of the jet, seeing a big, sturdy looking white shepherd walk out behind the man. As the man hit the cement, the dog did too, sitting down right next to the man and peering up at Tony and Pepper like it was testing them too.
Tony's heart pounded in his chest at the sight of the man and warmth sparked as Harry Potter came to a stop in front of him, taking off his sunglasses and looking them over. Tony sucked in a sharp breath at the sight of those bright green eyes, vivid and full of intent, definitely brighter in person than on a screen. The scar too was more defined in reality, branching out like tree limbs on Potter's forehead.
Harry looked his future husband over and inhaled deeply, shrugging when the scents of oil and… metal hid the scent of omega.
"Soooo… Stark Industries… that's a big company, isn't it?"
Tony Stark raised an eyebrow at him, his brown eyes filled with disbelief. "You don't know?"
Harry grinned faintly and shook his head, wondering if he had made the wrong decision in agreeing to this. Hedwig huffed out a breath next to him, her ears perked up. She never did enjoy being a ground ridden animal but he had figured a bird would draw too much attention. And he was still figuring out this world. He had already traveled to where Hogwarts should have been and had felt like he had taken a punch to the gut when he had just seen an abandoned hut there instead. "No? Should I?"
Tony blinked and stared at him then he grinned and held out his hand. Harry stared at him warily and then reached out his own, entwining his fingers with Tony's warm ones. Tony's eyes widened at the touch, feeling a slight spark pass between their fingers, and his cheeks flushed as Harry smoothed his fingers over Tony's wrist. He could feel the nervous sweat on the man's skin and the omega's scent heightened, a little wild and hot, like an engine starting to overheat. Tony's palm was calloused and Harry wondered what he did, having just read that he was CEO of a big company.
"Tony Stark, your future husband. Nice to meet you. This is Pepper Potts, my assistant."
Harry snorted at Tony's words and smiled wider, turning to look at the taller woman next to Tony. "Harry Potter. Nice to meet you too. This is Hedwig."
Tony peered over at Hedwig, raising an eyebrow before holding out a hand. Harry stroked Hedwig's head, stroking her ears and watched as Tony waited. Hedwig took a step forward and nudged her nose into Tony's palm, licked it once or twice before stepping back. Tony's eyes widened before he grinned a little, wiping his palm on his jeans. Grease and dog slobber added to already dirty pants and Harry's heart thumped loudly in his chest. Knowing that Tony didn't care about Hedwig meant something to him and he wondered… Getting a call from the Stark Industries legal team had been a complete surprise two days after he had arrived here.
"Hedwig's an odd name for a dog," Pepper remarked, her eyes narrowing.
"I… I named her for someone I read about in a book when I was 11," Harry explained quietly, seeing Hedwig look up to him. Though even sitting she didn't have to look up much, given that she was a little taller than normal dogs in appearance now. The mid afternoon sun made her coat almost shine as she looked between him and Tony, eying both of them in what would have been unusual intelligence for a dog. "I got her when I was 11 and she's been with me ever since."
A few years after the final battle and after he had fully realized his… powers, Hedwig had come back to him on his birthday. Apparently a gift from Death. Afterwards… they had both realized that he could change Hedwig's shape. Maybe it was a Master of Death thing or maybe it was just Hedwig's attachment to him, her firmly becoming his familiar, but it had been hilarious to watch as Hedwig had adapted to the changes. Less hilarious when Hedwig had stomped on his foot with a hoof when he had changed her into a horse a couple of months ago. Her look of irritation had been one for the books.
"She well trained?" Tony finally asked, looking between the dog and Harry. "I have a workshop."
"She won't go anywhere you don't want her to, in both senses of the word," Harry said, nodding in answer. "She's house trained too."
"Then mi casa es su casa," Tony said, gesturing to the airfield around them. "What do you do anyway?"
Harry hesitated and met Tony's eyes. "At the moment, nothing. I've been trying to find something but… if it's a matter of-"
"It's not a problem. Maybe Jarvis will be able to help," Tony said, leading the way back over the airfield and to the car that awaited them. Happy grinned at him and opened the limo door, his eyes pausing on the dog. "Happy, this is Harry and Hedwig. Harry, this is Happy, my driver."
Happy looked Harry over, watching as Harry met his eyes briefly before sliding into the limo. The big dog followed behind, curled up in the footwell, and dropped her head onto her paw.
Tony blinked before glancing into the car, seeing Harry look back at him.
Happy nodded and closed the car door after Tony got in. He made sure Potter's baggage was dropped into the car, taking in the sight of the one and only trunk. Maybe Harry only intended on staying for a quick visit? That couldn't be the only thing that Harry possessed.
