Thank you all so much for the warm reception! I am really proud of this story and truth be told, working on this story pulled me from a lot of other projects. Thank you for the follows, the favorites, and the reviews!

Enjoy the chapter!

I spent the next week getting groceries and small little knick knacks and such for my house. My house!

The inside was pretty well done already. Most of the rooms were painted a soft grey color. My bedroom had a large set of windows facing the backyard which I appreciated. And when I didn't I would appreciate the black out curtains I had set up as well. My furniture in my bedroom was a nice dark oak. There was a matching wardrobe, a nightstand, and a queen sized bed. The wardrobe was filled with sentimental clothing, like my old Quidditch uniform, my dress from the Yule Ball, and my robes from the various political trials I had to attend. All kept under lock and key. The closet was large and I was well on my way with filling it up with clothes, quickly taken with the idea of shopping when it was clothes I would actually enjoy wearing. My bedding was really the biggest pop of color. Garishly orange to remind me of the old Ron.

My bathroom was across the hall. Well technically it was the upstairs bathroom, but it was very nice for not being a master. It had a large soaker tub with a shower head attached to it as well. There was a curtain rod around it with a sturdy dark green curtain. The tile was a light grey to go well with the darker grey on the walls. I had a nice sink and plenty of vanity space. And the toilet of course. I had placed fluffy green mats on the floor to go with the curtain already there.

The other bedrooms were plain. I didn't really know what to do with them so I simply let them be. They had a lovely ash wood theme though in the furniture. One was upstairs with me, and the other was tucked in the corner on the first floor.

The living room, to me, was especially cozy. The walls were that soft grey again. There was a large fireplace in one corner. The stone was white and rough, it reminded me like the fireplaces at Hogwarts. There was a wooden beam as the mantle which gave it a lot of character. I had gotten a large TV to hang above it. On the mantle itself were photo frames and various mementos of my past. There was a large cushy black couch under the window. A coffee table and a matching black ottoman were next to it. In another corner, was my favorite piece; a large arm chair with a high back, that was purple. I had given it an extra helping of cushioning charms to really make it homey. There was a Molly Weasley blanket draped over it in maroon and gold.

The kitchen was my pride and joy. The walls were no longer that soft grey but were now a creamy light yellow. There was a white subway tile backsplash to accent it. The cabinets were white ash. The appliances were all new, I splurged on that, and were a nice sterling silver. I had a large oven, dishwasher, fridge, microwave, and a double sink. I had gotten tons of kitchen appliances considering I had tons of counter space, and an island. The counter was a nice white marble with a lot of black veining in it. I had stools around the island for eating that were gray metal with yellow cushions installed on them.

It was light and airy. And it was my home.

I had completely gotten a brand new aesthetic when it came to how I dressed. It was very...girly. Compared to what I had before, anything could be considered girly, but I was happy to get rid of the hand-me-downs I had collected over the years. A lot of things with long sleeves or bulky sleeves to help further conceal my arm. I didn't want to hide my arm forever, just for now. But now I had a whole set of clothing just for me. And it felt nice having bras that actually fit me well. It made me feel attractive when I looked in the mirror, which never happened in England.

Everything magical was locked away in a trunk at the foot of my bed. Well almost everything. My wand was in the drawer in my nightstand. The Elder Wand, but I guess that was my wand all things considered. The invisibility cloak was hanging in the back of my closet, hidden in a dress bag, away from the other magical clothing so it was concealed better. My scrapbook containing not only memories of my parents, but of my friends was on my coffee table. The pictures were stilled, along with the ones on the walls and mantle. The only other thing was the Golden Snitch that Dumbledore had given me. Ultimately it contained the Resurrection Stone, which was locked away in my trunk after I had found it crawling through the Forbidden Forest. The Snitch itself was stilled and on my mantle in the living room.

I kept the wand, stone, and cloak in three separate locations so that way it gave any potential intruders more difficulty to get all three at once. Bought me a few extra seconds to take out the threat. They were the most powerful magical items I owned, they needed to be protected.

I made sure to still set up the floo in the fireplace so I could easily call those back home. I didn't set it up for travel, but the calling would suit me just fine. I didn't want any unexpected visitors. The wards around my house were iron-clad. I would be able to tell if anyone coming wanted to do me harm, if magic was performed with me inside, and there was absolutely no apparition in the property line. I had it set up to alert me while I was in the house. I don't expect anyone to do anything in this little town, but I would rather have some type of backup for myself.

I felt confident about assimilating into Forks. It was a tiny and relatively unimpressive town. I would be an oddity to them, but it gave me the chance to be the oddball Brit instead of the Chosen One and the Saviour. I craved that more than anything.

I hadn't met any of the mysterious Cullens that Charlie had mentioned last week. According to the town gossips, they were simply settling in. It was the doctor, the stay-at-home mom, three boys, and two girls. And apparently the Doctor was a dish.

Charlie was a sweet man. Two or three times in the week he had come to check on me. Maybe I reminded him of his daughter, Bella. I could tell he missed her with how much he talked about her.

But today, I had to focus. Today was my first day of Muggle high school.

And I couldn't figure out what to wear. What made for a good first impression? I've had to wear a uniform for so long, and now I had choices. Actual choices that were bought for me.

After a while I decided on a dark olive green dress that had a scoop neck and three quarter length sleeves. The skirt fell to just above my knees. I paired it with black gloves that went up to about mid upper arm. Perfect to tuck into the dress and to hide my prosthetic. I chose some black wedge heels that the saleswoman had insisted I had to get. I had then spent that whole day practicing to walk in them.

I brushed out my hair as best as I could but it was still very out of control on my head. I put on a black sun hat to tamp it down. Sure there was no sun, but who cares. Ginny had great delight in choosing the bold cherry red glasses I had now. But I think they made my face look nice. And my eyes pop. Right?

In terms of makeup, I only put on mascara and a slightly tinted red lip gloss. It was apple flavored so I thought that was fun.

I stared in the mirror a moment longer before deciding to throw on Sirius' old motorcycle jacket for a little extra courage. It swamped on me a little so I shrunk it just a smidge before I was satisfied with my look.

I had decided on a messenger bag for school since that would be far easier to maneuver with my right arm. I had chosen a simple maroon one that was nice and soft, with a thick black strap for my shoulder. On the zipper I had a keychain of a cat. I saw it at the store and it reminded me of Crookshanks so I was happy about it. I stuffed my lunch into it before quickly heading out the door.

The drive was quiet. I was in my head thinking of what I would need to do. Magic allowed me to use the prosthetic like it really was my arm. I could move the fingers, lift heavy objects, I could even perform magic with it to a certain extent. But for Muggles I would need to tamper it's use. When they did find out about my arm, they would question if I had a lot of mobility with it. Thankfully, a freezing charm would work just fine on it. The mechanism could still bend under the freezing charm so it could be considered a very high end Muggle prosthetic. I would definitely need to practice with the freezing charm on more because my motor skills were still pathetic when the arm couldn't move.

I was at the school relatively early. There were only a handful of cars which I liked because there wouldn't be too many eyes on me.

I was also happy with my car choice again. Despite it's actual make, it didn't look any fancier than most of the cars I was seeing. I quickly spelled the arm and felt it harden on my person. It was odd, almost like a weight I was relearning on my body, but I had made myself used to it. I used my right hand to move the fingers on the left for a few moments before deeming myself ready.

As soon as I got out of the car, all eyes were on me. Girls were looking at me curiously and whispering behind their hands. The boys were just looking at me weird.

Oh well.

With whatever confidence I had, I made my way to the building labeled Front Office. The secretary was typing away on her computer when I walked in.

"Hello" I greeted softly. She looked up to me and smiled.

"Hi there! I'm Ms Harper! You must be one of the new students." she said pleasantly. I nodded.

"Dahlia Black" I introduced.

Her gaze flickered to my arm for a moment. Oh yeah, I had to tell the school my medical needs before coming. She must have been "informed".

"Well hello dear." she said softer than before. I just smiled and hoped she would move along with giving me my information. She started rummaging through a file before pulling out a couple sheets of paper.

"Here we go. Your class schedule, locker information, map of the school, student handbook, and a couple of forms the school nurse would like you to fill out." she explained. I looked down at the stack in my right hand.

"Free period?" I asked.

"Normally that would be the slot of Physical Education. But your medical records indicated that while you...you were-" "I get it." I interrupted, hoping the annoyance wasn't too apparent in my facial expression or tone.

I'm not an invalid.

She gave me an apologetic smile.

"Thank you for giving me my things. Have a good day." I finished, trying to keep the interaction at least a little positive.

I turned only to nearly run into the large group coming into the office.

My first thought was, "Must be the Cullen's"

My second thought was "Oh fuck they're vampires"

It was all too obvious. Their otherworldly beauty. Their pale skin, the matching amber gold eyes.

Vegetarians. At least there's that.

I felt a push in my mental shields and quickly made sure they were iron solid. Just great, one of them was a mind reader.

There were five of them, 3 boys and 2 girls just like the gossips had said. One of the boys, with sinful looking copper hair was staring at me with shock, although he was trying very hard to mask it. But I knew how to look for it. He must be the mind reader. With another thought, I spelled myself to diminish my scent and presence to hopefully not call attention to myself if they did know about witches and wizards. Highly unlikely. They were muggle vampires.

Constant vigilance!

One of the other boys was massively taller and broader than both boys but had an easy going smile on his face. He had his arm around a blonde girl. If she wasn't a vampire, I would have thought she was part veela maybe. She had a bored look on her face. The other boy was blonde like her and he was masking a pained expression. Problem with blood lust maybe? He was holding hands with a girl who was only just taller than me with a black pixie cut. She had an almost too wide smile on her face.

"You must be the Cullens!" The secretary said happily behind me.

"Yes ma'am" The blonde girl said, walking past me to the woman. The others followed suit. I quickly left, knowing the mind reader had his eyes on me.

Don't even try it, vampire boy.

But I got to admit, high school just got more interesting.

I didn't bother going to my first class yet and I didn't stop at my locker either. My mind racing, I quickly used the map to find the cafeteria and place an enchantment on the school. It was a mind one, positively illegal in some countries but not in America. Too many magical and non-magical creatures for mind magics to have strict laws. It allowed me to repress the thoughts of others in a designated area. With it, I cast it on the whole school to repress the knowledge of not only my arm, but magic as well. Didn't need the mind reader hearing that on the first day!

While I doubt anyone would recognize me and my association with the magical community, Mad-Eye left me too paranoid to leave it out.

Stop slacking Potter! Do you want your friends to die?

Now with that taken care of, I used the map to find my first class of the day, English Literature. The teacher was busy putting papers onto all the desks as well as a book for each student when I came in. I was the first in the class. He even jumped when he saw me.

"Oh! Hi there. Dahlia Black?" he asked. I nodded with a smile. He smiled back.

"Well welcome to Forks High. My name is Mr. Daniel Anderson. Feel free to choose a seat. Class will start shortly." he explained.

"Thank you" I said politely before going to an aisle seat near the back of the classroom. Old habits die hard. Students began filing in, openly gawking at me. I didn't pay them any mind though. I was looking at the book, well, play. Death of a Salesman. Hm.

More whispers started after a moment and a glance up saw that the tiny Cullen had come into the classroom. She quickly went to the very back of the classroom in the row behind me and sat perfectly straight in her seat.

The bell rang after another minute and Mr. Anderson closed the door.

"Welcome back everyone, both old and new" he greeted with an attempt at a smile. The classroom remained relatively silent.

"We have two new students at Forks High today. If you both could stand and introduce yourselves, where you are from, what you are looking forward to in the school year, and perhaps even a hobby." he said, looking at both me and the Cullen.

She stood up first. Judging by her facial expression, she looked equally as thrilled to do this as I was. Merlin I hope not all the classes have me introduce myself.

"My name is Alice Cullen. Me and my family just moved from Alaska. I'm looking forward to my art class. And I love shopping." she said, very curt, but again with this big smile on her face.

She kind of reminded me of Luna a bit.

She then quickly sat down and everyone turned to gaze at me. Grudgingly I stood up.

"I'm Dahlia. Black. I just moved from London. I am excited to go to normal school I guess? I like...animals." I finished after a moment before sitting down.

Mr. Anderson paused for a moment before nodding and starting the day. It was a generic overview of the syllabus and the year we were about to have. It seemed easy enough that I would be just fine in the class.

Algebra II was a completely different story. He went right into teaching and I could barely grasp a lot of what was going on. I didn't have to introduce myself again so I at least had that going for me. I will have to invest in a tutor though. I did end up passing notes with a brunette girl named Jessica back and forth through some parts of class. She seemed nice enough, if anything just a tad too nosy. She did invite me to sit with her friends at lunch though. Progress.

European History intrigued me a bit. I had to introduce myself again. But I wasn't alone. The blonde who had held hands with Alice was also in my class.

"I'm Dahlia Black. I've recently immigrated from London. The history and legends of Camelot is a particular interest of mine." I said, better than last time. And I didn't have to stand. The teacher, Mr. Tim Harrison, had an odd look on his face. Like he was excited to see me.

The blonde then spoke. "My name is Jasper Hale. I enjoy learning about the Civil War."

He had a southern accent which sounded quite odd to me but not unpleasant.

Anyway, he seemed nice enough. I felt for him. Being around so many humans must be a struggle.

Mr. Harrison was able to hold my attention far better than Professor Binns. My heart ached at the thought of Binns. He had been exorcised in the battle by a particularly cruel Death Eater. We never could figure out where he would have gone. But he didn't deserve that fate. Mr. Harrison only went through the syllabus like Anderson, but he seemed to be able to make the class excited about it.

Once that was over it was time for lunch. Luckily I didn't have to search for Jessica. She found me. Before I could get into the cafeteria she started walking next to me and talking a mile a minute.

We made it to a table housing 3 boys and 2 other girls. Mike, Erik, Tyler, Lauren, and Angela. Lauren was very unimpressive despite the attitude she had. I would get along with Angela. The boys were alright. They didn't make the greatest first impression when none of them would talk to me at eye level for the first few minutes.

I wasn't even that endowed in my chest.

The Cullens certainly made an entrance. They all walked in together, ignoring the whispers of those around them.

"Did you guys know they're like...together?" Tyler whispered at the table. I looked up from eating the salad I had made for myself.

"What do you mean?" Angela asked.

"Their parents, like adopted all of them, and like they're all dating each other. Like incest." Lauren said crudely.

"Since when is it incest if they aren't actually related." I shot back. Jessica nodded as if to say she agreed with me and Erik pointed at me like that made sense. Angela nodded too.

"It's weird. They all have the same last name." Lauren said, trying to recover. I shook my head.

"No they don't. Jasper is in my class. And he introduced himself as Jasper Hale. They seem happy. Just leave it be. Frankly it's none of your business." I said, growing tired of the annoying teenager. She reminded me of Lavender Brown and Pansy Parkinson in the worst ways.

"Well...let's focus on you then Dahlia." she said, trying to change the subject.

"Yeah! Where did you go to school before this?" Angela asked softly, probably missing the tone of Lauren's disdain for me.

Quite briefly an image of Hogwarts on fire filled my mind before I shook it off.

"Avalon Hall. It's a boarding school in Scotland. My parents went there so it was tradition." I said. I couldn't exactly say Hogwarts to a bunch of Muggles.

"Why are you here then? You flunk out and your parents kick you out?" Lauren snarked with an evil smirk. But her words didn't phase me. She had nothing on Snape.

Potter you absolute nuisance!

Look...at...me...Dahlia

You have your mother's eyes

"Lauren!" Jessica said in outrage, snapping me out of my remembering. Bless her.

"Actually Lauren, my parents are dead." I said bluntly. The group grew silent around me.

"They passed a long time ago. But I got myself emancipated and left. Considering how much unrest there still is over in England, it was a smart decision." I explained, staring at her in the eyes. Merlin give me a reason.

"Unrest?" Mike asked meekly.

"The past few years there have been a number of terrorist attacks in England, Scotland, and Wales. About half a year ago it ended but many factions and facilities are still recovering. Most notably Avalon. I had to repeat the year anyway because of it so I left." I said bluntly before sealing up my lunch and clumsily putting it into my bag. Merlin it was so much harder with the arm frozen! I huffed and swung my bag on my shoulder before getting up to leave, having enough of this.

I only got a few steps in before Jessica got up too and grabbed my right arm.

"Dahlia. I'm sorry about her. And about your parents." she said softly. I turned and looked at the girl. She was wide-eyed. And genuine.

The ones we love never truly leave us...

"I'll see you later. We've got Chemistry, remember?" I offered. She smiled, pleased, and nodded before walking back to the table.

Nice girl.

I took a quick glance at the table housing the Cullens and noticed they were all staring at me with varying emotions. Oh yeah, super hearing.

I gave them a mock salute before walking out.

Interesting day so far.
