The first two weeks of school went well I thought. I felt like a normal student. I went to classes, did my homework, and hung out with school friends. Jessica took the time to help me alot in Algebra and was always willing to answer a phone call if I had a question. I should probably invite everyone over soon now that I think about it. Even if it was to do homework together.

Edward and I continued to chat amicably in Music and Chemistry. I seemed to be the only one that was in contact with any of the family. It made sense. They didn't want to expose themselves to humans. And even if they didn't realize I was a witch, their instincts knew to trust me. Plus it probably helped that I had taken to masking my scent completely so they weren't as affected. Their resolve to do high school, for whatever sense of normalcy they wanted, was admirable and anything I could do to help without them knowing, I would.

Today I was to hang out with Mike, Jessica, Angela, and Eric after school. Lauren and Tyler were off on a date and told us to "not wait up." So the rest of us decided to go to the diner after school. I was craving those chocolate chip pancakes from my first day in Forks and I was excited to see Lucy again.

We got to the corner booth and sure enough Lucy was our waitress.

"Well kids, what will it be?" Lucy asked us with a smile on her face.

"I'll have those delicious chocolate chip pancakes again. And a cup of tea please." I asked politely. While it was no proper cup of English tea, it would do.

Maybe I could get Ginny to send me some of the stuff Molly makes...Good idea.

The others quickly got their orders through before Lucy scurried off to the kitchen.

"You eat absolute junk Dahlia. I don't know how you're so skinny." Jessica said, with a tinge of envy in her voice.

"Well I was an athlete at Avalon. I keep up what I can. Plus really good genes.'' I joked around, suppressing the memories of hunger and starvation I went through at the Dursleys. You ate what you could find and you never wasted it. Even if it was spoiled.

You ungrateful freak! Eating us out of house and home, you are!

"What did you play?" Mike asked, suddenly excited.

"Football. Well what you all call soccer. I was team captain last year." I fibbed. I couldn't actually tell them all about the joys of Quidditch now could I?

"That's so cool!" Eric gushed.

"Do you still talk to your friends from Avalon?" Angela asked. I shook my head.

"I mean I guess I do sometimes. Avalon was very...odd. Very archaic. No technology allowed at all so we communicated by letters. And now that there is a whole ocean between us...`` I said with a shrug, trailing off.

Even then most of the people I would even want to talk to are dead. Or stuck in their own heads.

"I wouldn't be able to live without television." Angela confessed, making me laugh.

"I understand that. Now that I have my own I have quickly become obsessed with some of the programs." I said with a smile.

"Oh what do you watch? This new show called Veronica Mars just came out and I'm obsessed with it. I made my whole family give up the tv to watch it" Angela gushed and it made me laugh.

"I haven't heard of that one, but I will have to check it out" I replied.

"Here we go kids!"

"All right!"

Clang

"Shit!"

"Dahlia!"

"Fuck!"

In order it was Lucy, Erik, my tea cup, Mike, Jessica, and then me. Mike must have hit the mug and it toppled over, spilling on me. I only noticed when it hit my legs. My left arm was soaked through. Course I didn't feel anything there with the freezing charm.

"I am so sorry Dahlia!" Lucy gushed, grabbing a few napkins to sop up some of the mess.

"It's ok." I said, shaking off the sting on my legs. Thankfully the jeans I was wearing acted as a barrier. The others were all talking at once.

"I'll get some ice," Lucy said before running off. Everyone was staring and that set me on edge.

"It's ok everyone" I muttered to the friend group.

"Your arm might be burned Dahlia. Let me see." Jessica said, reaching for me but I pulled my arm away. I was wearing a baggy blue and white striped t-shirt tucked into high waisted blue jeans, white converse, and the long armed black gloves again but I didn't feel like taking them off with everyone watching us.

Merlin, would they all just turn around and look away? I felt my magic setting itself on edge because the patrons were just staring and whispering. Merlin I hate whispering. Brought up the Chamber. Brought up the Tournament.

Kill the spare

I need to get out.

Without a word, I got myself out of the booth and left the diner. The sudden hit of the windy day helped ease the tension in my lungs and allow me to take the deep breaths I didn't realize I needed.

Famous Dahlia Potter...can't even go to a bookstore without making the front page.

I always knew something was off about her!

Poor Perfect Potter

Potter Stinks

The buttons were my idea

Why didn't you tell me you were putting your name in Dahlia?

Dahlia?

"Dahlia!" Jessica said, running out of the diner. I held out my hand to signify I needed space.

"Lucy gave me a cold rag to put on her arm." Angela said from behind me.

"Don't need it" I said simply, letting myself calm down.

"That whole cup poured on you" Erik countered. Merlin can't you just drop it.

I just didn't want people to stare at me. That's all I wanted. I didn't want to be the freak anymore.

"I'm going home. I'll see you all Monday." I said firmly, quickly getting in my car before the others could say anything and then I drove away.

My hands were clenched on the wheel, and I was tense the whole drive home.

I'm not ashamed of my arm. I'm not. But Merlin I didn't want the staring. I was stared at and whispered about for so long at Hogwarts and I didn't want that here. I couldn't have that here. I wanted to be normal.

I slammed my front door when I got home and threw my bag into the living room, taking more deep breaths to calm myself down.

I just needed a lie down. That's all. Take a nap. If my body would let me.

It was only then I realized my wards were practically screaming at me.

"No hello for an old friend?" a voice said from behind me.

I tensed up again and felt my magic swirl around me. Slowly turning, to my shock, sitting on my couch was-

"Ron?" I said, my eyes wide.

He looked like shit. His clothes looked soiled and covered in dirt. His skin was almost grey and there were deep bags under his eyes. His stubble was pretty long and his hair was unkempt and unwashed.

And he was just staring at me. Sitting on my couch and staring at me. He looked angry.

"How did you find me?" I asked calmly, trying to think of a way I could get him out of the house. I couldn't do anything magical, I was in a fuckin suburb. Call the police? Call Charlie?

"I know you D. Not that hard to know you lied to Hermione, especially when Ginny leaves her letters for anyone to read," he said. His voice was hollow. Shit Ginny.

"Does Hermione know where I am?" I asked. He stood up quickly and it made me take a step back.

"No she doesn't. It's just you and me" he answered. He was setting me on edge. The look in his eyes I had only seen before on the likes of Bellatrix Lestrange.

"That all you care about? Keeping up your lies?" he asked, angry, taking a few steps forward. I, in kind, kept taking steps backward, so much that I was almost in my kitchen now.

"Or keeping up appearances." he sneered, eyeing me up and down as he trailed after me.

"Ron, why are you here?" I asked him, not answering his questions. He didn't look well. Was he drunk? No he was messy when he was drunk, this wasn't messy. This was calculated, and on Ron, that was even scarier. It was like he was wearing the Horcrux again.

"You have a job to do Dahlia. You aren't finished with us yet." he said. What the hell?

"Ron what more could I possibly do? I did what the prophecy said. I lost my bloody arm doing it! None of you were letting me mourn or grieve or even take the time to heal. I needed to do something to move on-"

"Why do you get to move on?!" he screamed, a vase shattering on the counter behind me. It made me scream.

"Control yourself!" I shouted back at him.

"What gives you the right to move on and forget? What gives you the right to have a life outside of this? Without me?" he screamed at me.

"What gives you the right to say I can't?" I fired back at him, just as loud.

"You are Dahlia Fucking Potter! The Girl-Who-Lived! The Savior! Sorceress Supreme! The Chosen One! You don't get to leave that behind! You don't get to leave me behind!" He screamed.

"Since when was I nothing more than my titles! Since when can I not for once give a damn about myself? I was rotting away in Grimmauld, I couldn't sleep! I wasn't going to leave forever Ron!" I said, backing away as he advanced on me. We were circling the kitchen island now.

Merlin I didn't need this today. I eyed him and his relationship to the door. If I could circle us just a bit more I could make a break for the door. And the public. He wouldn't be able to use magic then.

"You are coming home!" he bellowed, almost leaping across the island but that gave me the precious seconds I needed to sprint for the front door, my magic throwing it open so I could continue to run outside.

But it wasn't enough to stop him from tackling me to the ground, bringing a shout out of me at the sudden force of gravity and weight on me. I lost my breath for a second as his weight fell on top of me. My head smacked against the cement of my driveway leaving me disoriented for a moment. Unlucky for me, my nose impacted on the ground and I could feel it already start to bleed. If this bastard broke my nose I swear to Merlin himself I'll throttle him.

I was thanking my own paranoia though for my wards would prevent apparition as long as I was in the property line. I felt him try and when he couldn't he growled. It enabled me to not only collect myself but elbow him in the nose and get out from under him and back onto my feet.

I didn't get far though. As soon as I could stand up, so did he, and I felt my face swing to the side as his knuckles collided with my cheek. I felt my eyeglass frames break, the glass breaking with it, and a piece digging into the skin just above my eye.

Just my luck.

I fell back to the ground, cursing him. What the fuck was wrong with Ron?

He was back on top of me though, trying to get leverage with my wrists. Probably to drag me over the property line. It felt like he would break my wrist if he held any tighter.

Thankfully, someone saved me.

"Get off her!" A voice shouted before I felt someone collide with Ron and effectively get him off of me. I was able to sit up in time to see it was Charlie. He and Ron were fighting on the grass before Ron got out from under him and took off down the road.

Coward.

Charlie took a look at me and I heard a soft "shit" before he was coming back over to me. He was talking into his radio though.

"Dispatch i need a BOLO out on a male, late teens, caucasian, red hair, pale skin, about 6 foot, bulky, wearing jeans, a brown shirt, and green jacket heading west from my house." he said into it before dropping down next to me. While he was talking into his radio, I freezed my prosthetic again.

"My hero" I drawled softly, wincing gently as Charlie took my head to turn and see the wound. I felt the bit of blood trickling down my face from the glasses breaking into me. My nose had a good stream coming out of it and I knew my shirt was ruined.

"Shit Dahlia. What happened?" Charlie asked, concern heavy in his voice. It made my chest tight, thinking of the last few adults who actually gave a damn about me.

"Old friend came by for a visit," I explained, although my heart was heavy. I don't know what the problem with Ron was, but I didn't need this. I was so tired of this. I haven't even been here a month for fuck's sake. And here he was, again, trying to dictate my life. It's all Hermione and Ron ever seemed to do.

"Sure old friend. I need a name Dahlia. We need to find him." Charlie said sternly. Normally I would have just handled it on my own. But I was tired. I didn't want to bear anymore weight from them.

"Ronald Weasley. Goes by Ron.`` I said wearily. He nodded, speaking into his radio again.

"Update on that BOLO. Perps' name is Ronald Weasley. Also answers to Ron. Consider him aggravated and dangerous." Again I stayed silent. I didn't really know what Ron was anymore. And if that helped apprehend him then that is what was needed.

"Dahlia, we need to go to the hospital. You need to get checked out ok?" he said. I groaned, but nodded. He slowly helped me off the ground and that's when the dizziness began to set in.

Probably hitting my head on the ground and then Ron hitting me right after wasn't such a good thing.

Charlie walked me to his running patrol car which I only now noticed and the driver's side door was still open. He must have barely put it in park. He got me inside and buckled my seat belt before making sure to get eye contact with me.

"We good?" he asked softly. It made me a little emotional, having an adult actually give a damn again for something so minor. Although I guess this wasn't too minor. I just gave a small smile and nodded. He nodded too and closed the door. Charlie quickly got into the driver's side and started driving to the hospital, lights flashing.

"How did you know I was in trouble?" I asked.

"Ms Anderson called the police station. She knows you live alone and saw an unfamiliar man going inside. Must have been just before you got home." Charlie explained, very serious.

"Well lucky me. I got the Chief of Forks Police coming to my rescue." I said softly, giving him a smile to hopefully ease him up a bit.

"Is he from back home Dahlia? Are you in any sort of danger or trouble?" Charlie asked. I shook my head but closed my eyes at the woozy feeling.

"He was my friend from back home. He went through a lot with all the attacks overseas. We all did. But he lost his older brother and he didn't cope well. And he didn't take kindly to me leaving so I could.`` I explained wearily.

I noticed Charlie glance at my arm, but I let it go. He had taken the knowledge of my bum arm very well all things considered, but he had a friend with bum legs so he was used to it.

"Well that doesn't give him the right to attack you." Charlie said sternly. It made me smile though.

"I know that Charlie. Thanks again." I said softly. We kept the rest of the drive quiet and soon we were at the hospital and in an ER patients room.

Thankfully we didn't have to wait long.

Surprisingly, it was a vampire doctor who walked in. He was tall, blonde, and of course very handsome. It was a little shocking to see a vampire as a doctor. He must have incredible restraint. That and years of experience on his side. I could easily tell he was also a Cullen. He must be the leader. No one else in a coven could be so bold to be a doctor.

"Hello Chief. Miss Black, my name is Dr. Carlisle Cullen. I will be examining you today." he greeted politely and with a kind smile on his face. I smiled back, but didn't answer.

"What happened here?" he asked, coming closer.

"I was attacked." I said simply. He paused before nodding.

"I'm sorry. Have you caught the culprit Charlie?" he asked. Charlie shook his head.

"I scared him off but I got units looking for him now. I'm going to have another officer come by shortly to take Dahlia's statement. Sorry kid, it can't be me and we need to file a report." he apologized to me after the side eye I gave him while he was explaining things to the doctor.

I saw Dr. Cullen pick up my charts and quickly threw a Notice-Me-Not Charm on the papers so he would avoid the arm part. If he knew, then Edward would know and I just wasn't ready for that yet. In my files I listed all relevant information that was needed for situations like this. I also listed all wounds relevant from the fights I had due to the war, which he would see just not the arm part. I had a great long medical history of my injuries. It included injuries and conditions I have had because of the Dursley's, which I wasn't comfortable with at all, but it was far less obvious then a missing arm I'm trying to hide. And nothing in the file itself said abuse, so I would just have to deal with it and hope Edward didn't ask questions.

"Can you tell me the injuries you sustained Miss Black?" Dr. Cullen asked.

"He didn't do much. He tackled me to the ground which caused my head to hit the ground. I landed face first and on my nose so that's why I got the nose bleed. Then when I was able to get up he punched my cheek on the side. I guess it was high enough to break my glasses." I explained, leaving out how I could feel the bruising start to form on my right wrist already. I didn't want him examining my arms at all. He nodded, unaware of the hidden detail.

"May I?" he asked. After my confirmation he took the remains of my glasses away and instantly the world went blurry.

"I'm sorry Miss Black, but I can't have them on you, especially while I examine you." Dr. Cullen apologized after I tensed up badly.

"I just don't like not being able to see." I said, clenching my fist.

Not being able to see meant danger. Meant I couldn't see clearly what was wrong around me. Couldn't evade any attacks.

Constant vigilance Potter! You'd be dead already!

What's the point of training you if you don't look where you're going?

"Your prescription is on file so we will see if we have anything close for you to wear in the meantime." Dr. Cullen said, breaking me out of my thoughts. I nodded and waited while he paged a nurse.

"May I examine the wound more?" he asked again.

"Yes"

I felt him tip my head back and forth, prodding at certain areas and having me tell him where I was sore.

"Well we will definitely clean out the wound right now. It looks like it will need a few stitches. As far as your nose goes, the fall bruised it and caused your nose to bleed but I don't feel anything to suggest a fracture or break. You'll just have a nasty bruise in the coming days. But I would also like to have your head scanned for a possible concussion." he explained. Just great.

"Sounds good to me," Charlie said. Worry wart.

"Pain medication would also be lovely" I added, making the men laugh.

"We can certainly get that going as well." Dr. Cullen said pleasantly.

"Dr. Cullen. Chief Swan. Officer Richards is here" a nurse said.

"Thank you Cindy. And thank you for the glasses." Dr. Cullen said.

Thank Merlin.

"Here you go Dahlia. Hope these will do for now." he said. I quickly took the pair and put them on. My eyes adjusted enough, but I will have to get a new pair tomorrow.

Yippee.

But now I could see and that was all that mattered. And I could see Officer Richards. Young guy, looked athletic.

"Hey Chief. I'm here to take yours and Miss Black's statement" he explained. Charlie nodded.

"You have to give a statement?" I asked.

"Yes. Since I was involved in the incident." Charlie explained to which I nodded.

"Well you will take it while I am addressing her wound." Dr. Cullen said and really that left no room for argument.

Neither task took that long. I said Ron was a friend from back home. He came by, angry that I had left England. Attacked me. Charlie scared him off.

Dr. Cullen had me take off the glasses again to clean out the head wound and stitched it. I didn't even flinch as Dr. Cullen got the shard of my glasses out of my head. How long had that been there? He quickly numbed that part of my head, got the four stitches that were needed in the wound, and cleaned up my head so there was no more blood. I was also given a wet towel to clean the blood from my nose and was given some scrubs to change into, at least the shirt bit and Charlie gave me his police coat to put over it right after.

By the time all of that was done, I was just now waiting to do the scan.

Of course I had another surprise guest. But this one was much more pleasant, despite his demeanor.

It was Edward.

He stormed in, immediately making eye contact with me. Amber eyes turned dark as his gaze focused on the wounds on my head. But it didn't scare me. If anything it...excited me?

No boy really had given me much attention at Hogwarts. Plenty give it to me at Forks and it makes me uncomfortable. But Edward was different. I didn't know why.

"Hi Edward." I greeted him softly. All the adults were outside of the room. Richards and Charlie were in the hall doing Charlie's statement. Edward's father was off looking at another patient.

Although I suppose he wasn't really his father? Or was he?

"Hi Dahlia." he said, just as soft. He slowly entered the room, looking as if I might break in the presence of another man. It didn't stop him from almost coming in too close for personal space. Although strangely my magic didn't react negatively to it.

"What happened?" he asked, his voice was tight and strained.

"An old and unhappy friend came by on a surprise visit. He didn't like what I had to say so I tried running out of my house. He tackled me to the ground and unluckily I landed on my face. And then when I managed to get up he punched me." I explained. Edward looked like he might be sick...if a vampire could get sick.

"It was just one punch, Edward. I've had worse." I said. If anything that made him look more worried. I held out my hand and it seemed to shock him.

Slowly he reached out his hand and took mine. Just as I thought, his hands were ice cold. Vampires are always cold. But his hand was firm in mine and I gave it a gentle squeeze before speaking.

"I'm ok," I said. He nodded once and tried to let go of my hand but I squeezed it again to make him stay.

"What are you doing in the hospital?" I asked.

"I was going to talk to my dad. I overheard some nurses talking about you though." he said, eyes going darker again.

"Well thank you for coming to check on me." I said with a smile. He seemed to notice my different glasses though.

"Did they break?" he asked. I nodded.

"I'll have to buy some more tomorrow." I said with a shrug.

"You might have a concussion though. and it isn't good to drive with a concussion." he fretted.

Although he did have a good point.

"Alice likes shopping. Why don't you and her go together? I'm sure she would love to help. She's expressed interest in getting to know you more." he explained. I thought for a moment before nodding.

"Ok. I'd like that. I've never really gone shopping for anything with another girl besides school stuff. Will you join us?" I added on the end with a teasing smile. It got him to smile back.

"Sure." he agreed. Nurse Cindy then came in.

"Hi Miss Black. I have some medication for you to take and then we are going to have you head to get a CT scan." she explained, holding up a little cup of pills.

"That's my cue," Edward said, letting go of my hand.

"Shouldn't I have your number?" I asked, cocking my head. How else would I contact him?

He paused before getting that very handsome smile on his face and nodding. I held out my hand for his phone because I am pretty sure mine was still in the living room. After putting my number in I gave him another smile.

"See you tomorrow Edward," I said.

"Until tomorrow, Dahlia." he said back. It looked like he wanted to do something else, but instead he left.

About an hour later I was finally able to leave the hospital. I had a bruising on my nose but thankfully no break, bruising on the upper part of my cheekbone and the side of my head, the four stitches, and a minor concussion. The bruising was forming on my wrist too, but sleeves and gloves could hide that. Couldn't exactly hide my face.

I looked like a horror movie. The bruising was a nice black and blue blossoming on my face and the stitches, while perfectly done, were right at the side of my head. I look like I got more than a single punch. I looked like I got beat, which I know would spark rumors, but all I cared about right now was getting home.

Charlie was the one who drove me back home, picking up McDonald's on the way since neither one of us felt like cooking anything. So we decided to splurge on some fast food. We got burgers and fries and he got me a breakfast sandwich that I could heat up tomorrow if I was still feeling under the weather. Thankfully my house wasn't a crime scene. As we walked in Charlie held a hand out at the door.

"Stay here ok? I'm gonna do a sweep." he said, making his way to the back rooms of the first floor. It made me smile watching him walk around my house like a bloodhound. Charlie, while a man of few words, told plenty in his actions. He was a good man and I was very lucky he was my neighbor.

He went up the stairs after a minute and while I waited for him I slowly took my shoes and gloves off by the door. He came back down, hands on his hips.

"All clear. Looks like Weasley didn't come back." he said.

"Good. I don't think my face can handle another reunion." I tried to joke, laughing at the look Charlie gave me.

"Not funny." he chastised.

"You have to laugh, Charlie. Otherwise all you can do is cry." I said, my voice breaking at the end, the tears threatening to come now that I was back home and able to start processing what happened.. Merlin I hated being this emotional.

His gaze softened and he let out a sigh. He jerked his head to the kitchen then.

"Well can't be crying. Let's get some food in us ok?" he suggested. I appreciated how he didn't crowd me. It helped calm me down faster. Ron and Hermione...Merlin all they did was smother me.

We sat by the island and ate quietly. Although Charlie would ask questions every couple of minutes.

"Got locks on the windows right?"

"Yeah Charlie."

"Ok. I'll double check all the locks before I leave."

"Thanks Charlie."

"You got any mace?"

I couldn't hold in the laugh.

"No Charlie."

"Ok. I'll get some self defense stuff from work for you to have on hand ok. You live alone, you should have them anyway." he insisted. I just smiled and nodded, taking a bite out of a fry.

After we were all done I quickly rummaged through one of my drawers before pulling out my spare house key.

"Hey Charlie?"

He turned to me after putting some of the dishes we washed into the cabinet. I held out the key.

"It's my spare. Can you have it? Just...so we both aren't so alone?" I asked, nervous for the man's response. He just gave me a patented Charlie smile before taking it.

"Sure kiddo. Whatever you need ok?" he said. I nodded.

He let me get cleaned up and moisturized before helping me into my bedroom since I was starting to feel the dizziness a bit more. I was cleared to sleep so that was my next task. I stopped short when I saw my bed and the bright orange bedding I had.

"Everything ok?" Charlie asked, worried when I had tensed up.

"Orange. I got it because it was Ron's favorite color." I said quietly.

I didn't have to say anything else. Charlie immediately took the orange bedding off, leaving the cream colored sheets under it. He threw it off to the side and then looked around the room.

"Any other blankets you got?" he asked.

"Yeah, I have some knitted blankets downstairs." I said.

"Be right back," he said, heading back downstairs. I let out a sigh and rubbed the good side of my head. What a horrible day it's been. Well...not too horrible I guess when I thought about talking with Edward and having Charlie here.

Charlie came back up with the forest green blanket Molly had made me my fourth year. My favorite. He put it on the bed, along with my cell phone from downstairs, and then turned to me.

"I think you're all set here. Do you need me to stay longer?" he asked. I shook my head.

"No. I'll be good. Thank you so much Charlie." I said, a soft smile on my face.

"I wouldn't leave you to deal with this on your own D. Don't worry. You need anything, call me. Or run over to my house ok?" Charlie insisted.

"I will Charlie. Promise." I said.

He left the room and I could hear him in the house checking the windows like he said before the front door opened, closed, and locked.

It felt nice having a sort of father figure again.

I turned and got into bed, the blanket wrapped around me tightly. Now that I was comfortable I took my phone and checked it.

I had 2 texts from Angela. 1 from Eric. 3 from Mike. 14 from Jessica.

While Angela, Eric, and Mike were all checking in on me from the diner incident. Jessica's ranged from the diner all the way to finding out I was in the hospital.

Monday would be fun.

There were three other messages. Two from one number and one from a seperate number. Both were unknown on my phone.

-Hi Dahlia. Alice and I will be coming by around 11 if that works for you tomorrow? Glad you are safe-

-This is Edward by the way-

It made me giggle. I replied back.

- Hi Edward. 11 works perfectly for me. Looking forward to it :) -

I looked at the other message next.

- Hi Dahlia! This is Alice! I'm so excited for tomorrow! PS I got your # from Edward. Hope you don't mind! -

- Don't mind at all! Thanks Alice -

Tomorrow will certainly be interesting. But for now, it was time to try and sleep as much as I could.
