Harry Norwood
Chapter 13

Harry easily settled back in to classes after Christmas. Nothing out of the ordinary happened during the first week back. On the second Sunday however Daphne told them some interesting news. Apparently the night before Potter and Weasley had somehow snuck into the Slytherin common room disguised as Crabbe and Goyle and questioned Malfoy about the chamber. She, Tracy and Blaze were sitting at one of the tables in the back when they walked in. It appeared that they had somehow gotten hold of polyjuice potion which wore off not long after they arrived and they hastily ran out of the room. Their hair turning back to original which is how Daphne new it was them. They all shared a good laugh at that.

"How stupid can someone be?" Hannah thought out loud.

"I am more surprised that they didn't get caught." Susan added.

"Did Malfoy suspect anything?" Harry asked curious. Daphne shook her head.

"Don't think so. He was rather confused though. Especially when the real Crabbe and Goyle returned half an hour later loaded with snacks. They laughed some more.

This story lifted their spirits for the rest of the day.

The days pass with not much happening. It snowed once more and they had a great snowball fight, made snow angels and had a snowman building contest. Near the end of the month, as the group was on their way to dinner, they came by the corridor where Mrs. Norris was petrified. They heard some angry shouting and decided to have a look.

There was water everywhere and Filch kept cursing. They knew it came from the lavatory. Fortunately Filch walked away muttering that he needed a better mop. Quickly they made their way into the toilet. Apparently one of the toilets was overflowing and the tabs on the sinks had been turned on. Myrtle was no where to be seen. Harry walked over to the toilet and found a book floating in the water. Carefully he picked it up. He had a feeling he had seen it somewhere before.

It was black with faded copper corners and writing. The initials T.M. Riddle were engraved in the back. Confused and curious Harry pocketed it. He walked over to the others who were turning the tabs off. Harry helped them. On the last one he touched he felt something strange. Something was carved onto the tab. He took a closer look and discovered that it was a snake.

"Guys? I think I found it." He called. They rushed over to his side.

"Found what Harry?" Daphne asked.

"The entrance to the chamber." He simply said and pointed to the sink.

"I think you're right." Tracy said after looking at the tab.

"It makes sense. Mrs. Norris was petrified just outside this door and the snake is the symbol of Slytherin." Daphne explained.

"Should we tell someone?" Hannah asked but Harry shook his head.

"Not yet. We aren't one hundert percent sure yet." He explained and in that moment Myrtle returned.

"What are you doing in my toilet again!" She shrieked.

"There was water everywhere. We tried to stop it." Neville tried to calm her down.

"Leave me alone." She shrieked and flew around them. The others, clearly not wanting to deal with her, turned around and walked towards the door but Harry remained still. He had a thought.

"Myrtle? May I ask you how you died?" He carefully said. The others looked at him as if he grew another head.

"WHAT?" Myrtle shrieked louder this time.

"I was just wondering." Harry defended himself. No one really knew how she had died, just that it had been in this toilet.

"IF YOU MUST KNOW, I WAS CRYING IN THE TOILET AND I HEARD A VOICE SAYING SOMETHING IN A STRANGE LANGUAGE. IT WAS A BOY. I CAME OUT TO TELL HIM TO LEAVE ME ALONE AND ALL I SAW WAS PAIR OF BIG YELLOW EYES BY THOSE SINKS." She yelled at him. Harry was taken back. He didn't think she would actually answer him. The others were just as shocked as he was if not more.

"Do you know who the boy was?" Harry asked eager. She glared at him.

"Not at the time. I found out much later. Name was Tom Riddle, a six year student I believe. Slytherin." She answered still shrieking. "NOW LEAVE ME ALONE." She added and they ran out. Fortunately Filch wasn't back yet. No one said a word as they headed to dinner.

"We really should go and tell a teacher. Who knows what will happen next." Neville said.

"I know. And we will. I just want to get all the facts straight. We should sleep on it." Harry answered. They all looked at him. They knew he was right. If they told a teacher without all the facts backing it up they won't believe them.

No one really ate that evening. They were too nervous. That night they went to bed with a heavy heart. Not everyone went to sleep though. Harry simply couldn't sleep. When he knew that the common room was empty he grabbed the book, some parchment, quill and ink and left for the common room. Hey sat down at a table and opened the book.

It appeared to be a normal, empty book. "But why was it empty?" Harry questioned himself. Now he remembered where he had seen it before. Ginny Weasley. He thought hard about the book and believed that he had seen it way before then. "Diagon Alley. That's right. When the Weasleys and Malfoy were arguing. Mr Weasley pulled out Ginny's books to mock them. He must have placed this one with them." He thought out loud. He had seen Ginny write in it all the time so why was this empty? Confused he grabbed the quill, dipped in in ink and started writing.

Hello

He felt rather silly writing that. It's not like the book can answer. But boy was he wrong. The ink vanished.

Hello. Who are you?

Harry sat back shocked. The book wrote back. This can't be good. He needed more answers.

I am Harry. Who are you?

He watched as the ink vanished.

I am Tom.

Harry thought for a moment before writing again.

Could you tell me about the chamber of secrets?

Noting happened for a while but then the book answered.

No, but I can show you.

Within seconds Harry is blown into the pages of the diary and to, what Harry presumes was, the headmaster's room. There he witnesses a conversation between Riddle and the then- headmaster in which Riddle's request to remain at Hogwarts for the summer holidays was turned down because of the recent dangers of the open Chamber of Secrets. Harry then followed Riddle through the corridors, once running into a younger, auburn-haired Dumbledore who warned Riddle to head back to his dormitory. Riddle and Harry had to wait in the dungeons for a while, and finally they heard nearby footsteps. They followed them. The footsteps belonged to a younger Hagrid, who was trying to conceal something inside a box. Riddle explained that he must turn Hagrid in for possessing the guilty monster and that he'll be expelled for it, and Hagrid argues vehemently that the animal inside the box was innocent. Riddle pulled out his wand, casting open the box and releasing a giant, hairy spider that scuttles over him and out through the corridor. Harry is whirled back into real time.

This was it. The evidence he needed. He had to tell a teacher. It couldn't wait much longer. He pulled out the list and continued it.

- possible creatures in the chamber: Cockatrice or Basilisk (Basilisk more likely as Slytherin symbol is a snake)(Definitely Basilisk)

- possibly located in girls lavatory on first floor (entrance by the sinks)

- same person responsible as last time (through someone else)

- Tom Riddle is heir of Slytherin and killed Myrtle(verified by asking her)

- Tom Riddle framed Hagrid for opening the chapter and got him expelled (memory to confirm)

- Lucius Malfoy gave Tom Riddle's diary to Ginny Weasley in Diagon Alley summer 1992 (memory to confirm this)

- Ginny opening the Chamber (innocent)

- still not sure how the basilisk moved unseen

Luckily by now Harry had read enough law books to know that his memories can be used in court if they are untempered, which they are, and if he verified them with Veritaserum and gave his signature. The only thing he didn't know was how to extract the memories but he was sure madam Bones knew and he definitely was getting her involved too. He quickly gathered all the evidence and left the common room.

He wasn't scared that he would ran into a teacher he was more scared of Filch. Technically speaking Filches office was the closest but Sprout was the next, and way better, option. He ran as fast as he could. When he arrived he hammered on the door as hard and loud as possible. The door opened not long after.

"Mr. Norwood," said a sleepy and confused Professor Sprout, "what are you doing up and running about at this hour?" She demanded to know.

"I know where the chamber of secret is, what the monster is and who opened it." He stammered out. Sprout just started at him, shocked.

"What are you talking about?" She questioned him.

"I mean it. I really know. You have to listen to me. It's serious." Harry pleaded. Sprout sigh and let him inside. "You should get madam Bones and Professor McGonagall as well." He added once inside. She looked at him questionably. "Please." Harry pleaded. She sigh and went over to the fire place.

Harry had read about fire calls before but never actually seen one. She threw some floo powder in, called out "Bones residence" and stuck her head into the flames. Harry couldn't hear what they were saying but a minute later Sprout pulled back.

"Madam Bones is on the way. You wait here Mr Norwood while I'll get Professor McGonagal." She left the office. Harry looked around curiously and nervously. There were a lot of plants around. Similar to the ones in the common room. She had a giant book case and comfy sofa and armchairs as well. Not long after the fire roared to live and madam Bones stepped out.

"Alright Mr. Norwood what is going on?" she asked him. In that moment the door opened and Sprout walked in followed by a very tired, rather angry looking McGonagall.

"Mr. Norwood what is the meaning of this?" she demanded to know.

"Now now Minerva. Can't you see the boys is anxious? Shall I make us all some tea?" McGonagall sat down in one of the armchairs and madam Bones did the same. Sprout moved to a backroom and returned not much later with four steaming mugs. She guided Harry to the sofa and they sat down.

"Alright Harry please tell us what you know." she spoke softly. Harry took a deep breath and started. He told them everything. How they had heard about Mrs. Norris and went to see for themselves(he left out the the part about hearing voices though). How they wanted to know more about the subject like everyone else did. He told them about his conversation with Rolf Scamander and how the boy easily knew what can cause a petrification and which creatures could have done it, how Seamus told them, the night Mrs. Norris was found, that there was water all over the corridor, Binns lesson and how Hermione asked him about the chamber, his interest in the founders, which he had since first year but couldn't find much about, how he discovered that Salazar Slytherin was a parselmouth which then made it clear that the monster was a Basilisk and Moaning Myrtles bathroom before coming to todays events.

"On our way to dinner earlier today, or yesterday or whatever, we heard some shouting. Filch to be exact. We got curious and went to look figuring someone was getting into trouble but he was by himself. The corridor, in which Mrs. Norris had been found, was flooded with water coming from Myrtles bathroom. He left to get another mop and we went inside. Someone had tried to flush this book," he held up the book, showing them the front, "down the toilet. Myrtle in her anger most likely turned the tabs on. I collected the book, and knew I had seen it before I just didn't remember where, before I went to help my friends turning the tabs off. When I touched one of them I felt something engraved on it. It was a snake. I knew then and there that that was the entrance to the chamber. I mean Mrs. Norris was petrified just outside that door. Myrtle returned at at point and tried to chase us off again. I don't know what made me do it but I asked her how she had died." The adults gasped at that.

"She refused at first but reluctantly told me. She had been in the bathroom crying when she heard a boy talking in a strange language. She wanted to tell him to leave and the last thing she saw were a pair of big yellow eyes by the sink. When I asked her if she knew who had killed her she told me that she only found out much later. It was the person who this book belongs too. She said he was a six year Slytherin by the name of Tom Riddle." Harry looked at the adults to see if the name meant anything to them. Unfortunately it did not. "Now to the story as to how I now who did it."

He started telling them about his run in with Luna and his offer to help her. How he bumped into Ginny and how she didn't seem to notice it at all and how she was constantly writing in this book, again he held up the book, and how he recognized it from his observation, when he found it in the toilet. "I think I remember the book from way before then but I am not sure. If my memory serves me right I saw it last summer in Diagon Alley, Flourish and Blotts to be exact, on the day Lockhart had his signing. The Weasley's had a little run in with the Malfoy's and Mr. Malfoy took Ginny's books out of her cauldron, in which she was caring them, to mock them. When he placed them back I am pretty sure he added this book." Harry looked around and saw how the adults were looking at him confused, surprised and shocked.

"Now how would a book cause so much trouble?" madam Bones asked.

"It's not an ordinary book madam Bones." Harry started. "Could I have a quill and some ink please Professor?" he turned to his head of house. She nodded and quickly grabbed the items. Harry opened the book for them to see. "Now you can see that the pages are all empty right?" they all nodded. Harry let a drop of ink fall onto the book. It vanished almost immediately. They gasped. Harry then proceeded to write something.

Hello Tom

The ink vanished again and the book answered.

Hello Harry

"This book is dangerous I can tell. It's not right that it can answer back. I think this is what is controlling Ginny, what made her open the chamber, against her will most likely, and set the Basilisk on the muggleborns. It is all this Tom Riddle. He showed me a memory about how he framed Hagrid back then and got him expelled. He opened it the first time around and killed Myrtle and now he is opening it again using someone else." Harry finished. It took a moment to process all of this information before McGonagall stood up.

"If you are correct, and I admit it all sounds very believable, then Ginny Weasley needs to be secured and checked out out immediately." With that she rushed out of the door. Sprout right behind her. Madam Bones wanted to follow but Harry stoped her briefly to hand over the book and his list. She thanked him and told him to wait in the common room before following the two Professors.

When Harry arrived back in the common room he found his dorm mates waiting for him.

"Where have you been Harry? We were worried sick." Neville asked him as soon as he saw him. Harry sat down and told them everything.

Hope you liked it. Let me know what you think.
