Inside a small flat in the heart of London, there slept a once remarkable woman Naruko Uzumaki Black. Now age thirty-two she had been living in the magical world for the past twenty years. She had first arrived at Hogwarts right in the middle of the sorting ceremony after attempting to learn teleportation justu from the pervy-sage. With no way back home and an ability to use magic she was enrolled in Hogwarts and never looked back. For many years things had been amazing for the blonde. Making friends, learning magic, getting into fights when anyone made a crack about how little she was or her whiskers. After graduation, she had joined the Ministry of Magic and became an Auror. Naruko had quickly become one of the ministry's top agents right alongside the likes of Alastor Moody.
Then the dark times came, Voldemort and his Death Eaters. She had lost many dear friends during the war, but not all was sorrowful. In the middle of the battlefield, love had bloomed with the last person she had ever thought was possible with. Sworn enemies during their school days everyone was surprised when Naruko Uzumaki had married Sirius Black. On the day of their wedding gone had been the little tomboy Sirius had always picked on. In her place was a tall beautiful woman with flowing gold hair and mesmerizing blue eyes. Naruko had never been happier than on that day but it was never meant to last. Less than a year later she had been forced to capture her traitor of a husband and personally deliver him to Azkaban, is mad laughter still haunted her nightmare. She had killed a piece of her heart that day and in its place grow harsh darkness that in time would come to consume her life.
The sun was only just starting to rise over the city when a light tapping on her bedroom window slowly brought the blonde woman out of her slumber. Sitting up in her small bed she let out a great big yawn before a moan of pain escaped her lips. Naruko who had been up drinking the night before could already start to feel the effects of a hangover. Stretching a handout she fumbled in the dark till finally grabbing a hold of the bottle sitting at the top of the nightstand. Bringing it to her lips Naruko took a large gulp of its contents. The all too familiar sensation of burning mixed with a cool sting made its way down her throat. Now somewhat dulled after so many years of drinking it was just the pick-me-up she needed to drag herself out of bed.
"Alright I'm going, stupid owl," Naruko grumbled as she turned on the lights and made her way towards her bedroom window that faced the main street below. However, instead of an owl bringing her morning copy of Daily Prophet, it was instead a beautiful red and gold Phoenix.
"Fawkes?" Naruko couldn't believe what she was seeing. instead of the typical owl, she saw most mornings there was a phoenix hovering outside the window of her flat. Not just any Phoenix after all the times she had been to the Headmaster's office during her school days, Naruko easily was able to recognize Dumbledore's pet. Quickly working the latch on her widow she stepped back to let the bird in. Fawkes flow around the room a few times before landing atop her dresser.
"Hello girl," Naruko said as she wakes over to the phoenix. "Haven't seen you in a while how's the old man doing." At this Fawkes lifted its leg and showed that there was a letter attached to it. Taking the letter Naruko watched as Fawkes took off out the window her brilliant colors blending into the light of the rising sun. Taking a look at the envelope Naruko turned it over to see that the Hogwarts school crest was on it. Ripping it open she pulled out the letter and read.
My dear Naruko,
There is an urgent matter that I must discuss with you in person please come to Hogwarts Castle as soon as possible.
-sincerely
Albus Dumbledore
Quickly finishing the letter Naruko almost fell into a bit of a panic as different scenarios of what could be wrong that Albus would send her an official letter could be. Looking around her room she spotted various pieces of clothing littered about among empty bottles of fireworks.
"Great," she murdered to herself as she got to work and trying to find enough clean clothes to leave her flat and head for Hogwarts. Fifteen minutes later she was finally dressed and a pair of black sneakers dark navy blue jeans and an orange T-shirt. It was a modest look but it did well to show off her athletic womanly figure nicely. Along with her whiskers, blue eyes, and blonde hair Naruko was easily a bombshell. Taking a look in her bathroom mirror she saw that her long blonde hair to complete mess.
"Oh, come on," Naruko said annoyed by the state of it. Bringing out her wand she pointed it at the top of her head before giving it a few turns in the air and snapping it quickly to the side over her left shoulder. Instantly her hair was pulled and braided into an elegant design that fell over her shoulder. Right as she was about to leave she stopped when the feeling of a slight throbbing in the back of her head started. Moving out of her bedroom she stepped into her small kitchen and rummaged through a few cabinets before finding a full unopened bottle of fire whiskey. Opening it she took out a class and pored herself a small shot. Tossing it back she finally left her apartment once she was steady. Giving a quick flick of her hand a loud click was heard as the door looked behind her as she made her way down her apartment block and onto the quiet morning street.
She thought to apparate but giving the night she had and how far it was to Hogwarts she thought better of it. So instead Naruko looked up and down the street to make sure she was the only one around Naruko threw out of hand. About two seconds later there was a definite BANG as a triple-decker violently purple bus appeared in thin air. On its side windshields, gold lettering spelled out the knight bus. As the doors flew open a conductor in a purple uniform left out of the bus and began to speak loudly to the morning.
"Welcome to the knight bus emergency transport for the stranded witch or wizard just stick," but before the young man could finish what he was saying Naruko had already pushed her way past him and stepped inside the bus.
"I'm in a hurry Stan, so let's skip the welcome speech, Ernie I need to get to Hogsmeade village as quick as you can." Naruko addressed the elderly man wearing very thick glasses who was driving the bus. In the still early hours of the morning, there were no seats on board but instead, half a dozen brass bedstands stood beside the curtained windows. Candles were burning in brackets beside each bed illuminating the wooden paneled walls. However this morning the Knight bus appeared to be empty.
" 'Choo in a rush me 'or?" Stan asked as he got back on the bus. "Take 'er away, Ern," Stan said sitting in an armchair next to Ernie's. There was another tremendous BANG, and the next moment Naruko had to brace herself from falling over the bed she had sat on. Even after the summer, she spent in her sixth year working as a conductor on the knight bus Naruko still had a hard time bracing herself against the speed of the bus.
" 'Atl be eleven Sickles," Stan said as he held his hand out to Naruko.
"Oh, right," Naruko said if she reached into her jean pocket and pulled out a tiny leather coin purse that was about the size of her palm. That is until she took her wand out and gave it a quick tap and it grew in size to that of a full satchel bag. "Give me a sec." She told him as she started to rummage through her bag looking for some money.
"Put that away little miss, your money's no good here," Ernie said as he maneuvered the knight bus over the pavement causing a few lines of lampposts and mailboxes to jump out of the way as they were now far outside of London.
"Ernie," Naruko tries to protest but the old man wouldn't hear of it. "Alright, thank you," she said closed her bag and gave a slight roll of her eyes at how the old man still saw her it was very sweet she thought. After a few minutes of rocketing through the countryside, Ernie slams on the brakes, and the knight bus skid it to a halt in front of a small tavern, the Three Broomsticks, right in the middle of Hogsmeade village.
"All right thanks for the lift," Naruko said as she hopped out of her seat and stepped out of the bus.
"Naruko," Ernie had been the one to call out to her. "You take care of yourself now." He said smiling kindly at her.
"Don't worry about me you just keep your eyes on the road, bye Stan," Naruko said as she flashed them a bright smile and waved them off, this caused Stan to become very flushed. Once the doors of the knight bus closed there was a final loud BANG and it was gone from sight. Looking around all the little shops it would be a few more hours before anything started to open. Turning on the spot and with a loud pop, Naruko apparated the rest of the way and reappeared just outside the school gates.
Making her way up the school grounds Naruko couldn't help but still be amazed at the sight of Hogwarts Castle. It had been many years since she last stepped foot inside but it would always be her first true home. Walking past Hagrid's hut Naruko had to stifle a giggle when the sound of very loud snoring could be heard.
"Looks like nothing's changed," she thought to herself but that wasn't true a small voice in the back of her mind said. Quickly pushing those thoughts aside Naruko continued on her way till she was finally standing in front of the large wooden double doors that lead into the castle.
"Now what?" She thought but no sooner did she think it the doors started to open.
"Ah, Naruko it's good to see you again." Came the grandfatherly voice of Albus Dumbledore. "Please come in." The old headmaster said as he stepped aside to let the woman into the school. In all the years she had known the old wizard he still looked that same, well almost his beard was longer and his hair a bit whiter.
"Is everything alright Album? Your letter said it was urgent," Naruko said as she have the elderly wizard a quick hug.
"There is a great deal to discuss but first let us go to my office while we wait for Minerva and Severus to arrive." At the mention of Snape, Naruko grows a bit uneasy as the need for a quick drink started up again in the back of her mind.
"Are you sure about Severus needed to be here Albus? The last time we saw each other wasn't on the best of terms." Naruko said as she and Dumbledore climbed up the marble staircase and began to make their way towards his office.
"All water under the bridge, it would do Severus good to see an old school friend," Dumbledore said with a smile. Naruko was doubtful this was the case and it showed on the look of disbelief she gave Dumbledore. After all how many people can say they are looking forward to seeing the Auror responsible for sending you to Azkaban. All too soon they were standing in front of the stone gargoyle that blocked the way to the headmaster's office.
"Acid pop," Dumbledore said, and watching the stone gargoyle suddenly spring to life it hopped out of the way. Behind the wall was a spiral staircase that was moving smoothly upwards. Making their way up the staircase they soon came to a stop in front of a gleaming oak door with a brass knocker in the same of a griffon. Stepping inside the large circular room Naruko wasn't surprised to see nothing about it had changed. The portraits of the past Headmasters and Headmistress still covered the walls. There were still many curious silver instruments that stood upon spindle-legged tables that were emitting little puffs of smoke.
"Can I offer you some tea while we wait?" Dumbledore asked as he took a seat behind his large oak desk. Taking out his wand Dumbledore conjured out of thin air a large silver tea tray. Taking her bag off and hanging it over her chair she took a seat in front of the headmaster's desk.
"Thanks but I think a hair of the dog would be better," Naruko said with a sheepish check as she rubbed the back of her head. She was a grown woman you shouldn't have to feel embarrassed but somehow Dumbledore always seems to have that effect. Thankfully however Dumbledore just gave her a small nod before vanishing the tea tray. With another wave of his wand, a bloody mary with celery stock in a tall glass appeared.
"Cheers," Naruko said as she graciously accepted the drink. As she started to take a few small sips, Naruko gave a nod of approval as this was just what she needed to cure her hangover. "Your too good to me Albus," Naruko said as she became more comfortable in her seat. This only the Headmaster chuckle lighting at her antics.
"So what going on," Naruko said in a more serious voice as she sat up straight her eyes narrowing a bit. "You're not trying to give me a job again are you, because there's no way I'm teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts that's jobs jinxed." It was a common belief that that particular teaching post was bad news.
"No, I have already hired a very capable individual for that post," Dumbledore said with a twinkle in her eyes but that did little to settle the sinking feeling in her stomach. Just then there came a knock at the door.
"Enter," Dumbledore called out. As the door started to open Naruko quickly vanished the glass in front of her. "Ah, Minerva, Severus thank you for coming on such short notice." Turning around in her chair Naruko smile as she stood to greet the two.
"Hello, Minerva it's good to see you." Naruko greeted brightly. To say this was what the two teachers had been expecting when they were called to the headmasters' office was an understatement.
"Naruko," McGonagall called out in surprise as she was pulled into a hug by the blonde woman. "My goodness, what are you doing here child."
"I got a letter from Albus this morning to come," Naruko said as they broke apart. McGonagall took a moment to look the woman over it had been some time since they last saw each other.
"Oh my dear look at you," McGonagall said, "as lovely as ever." At this Naruko let out a bubble of giggles. Behind his desk Dumbledore watch the scene unfold with a smile on his face, Naruko was still the only one who could bring this side out of Minerva McGonagall. Stepping aside Naruko greeted the last person in the room.
"Hello Severus," Naruko said a bit quietly as she stepped in front of the Potions Master. Both now in their early thirties Naruko was still half a head shorter than the man. Everyone waiting to see what Snape's response would be. The room fell silent as Snape remained stone-faced looking at the blonde. Finally, after a few minutes and Naruko's puppy dog eyes, Snape caved in.
"Hello Naruko," the second he uttered her name Naruko had him in a tight hug. This caused the man to begin to fight her off. "Let go Naruko that's enough." But the woman was just too happy and soon the two were wrestling each other like they were first-years all over again. It did both Dumbledore and McGonagall good to see the two of them still able to act this way towards each other.
"Alright, alright I give," Naruko was crying out as Snape now had her in a headlock. "Albus help Severus is being a meanie." She tried to break free of his hold but with no luck.
"Severus that will do I think," Dumbledore said with a chuckle. "I did call you all here for a matter of great importance."
"Very well headmaster." And with that Snape let go of Naruko and the three of them stood in front of the headmaster's desk. Naruko quickly taking her wand out to fix her disheveled hair.
"Now for the reason, I have called you all here today. . . .alas I truly wish was on better tidings," this Dumbledore took a moment to pause before finally letting out a heavy sigh. "I have received word late last night from Cornelius Fudge that there has been an escape at Azkaban prison." At this McGonagall let out a small gasp of shock. Snape became very rigid while Naruko remained silent and unmoving.
"A escape from Azkaban that's not possible surely the minister must be mistaken." McGonagall couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"Headmaster who escaped from the prison," Snape asked wondering if it could be some of the dark lord supporters.
"I'm afraid it was none other than Sirius Black.," At Dumbledore's words, Naruko whole body tensed up as she begins to shake with an uncontrollable rage. Before anybody could say more she snatched her bag from off the chair and began to walk out of the office.
"Naruko we're on earth are you going," McGonagall called out and she tried to stop the woman from leaving.
"I'm going to go find that bastard and finish what I started twelve years ago." Naruko raged as she tried to move to pass McGonagall.
"Naruko please wait," Dumbledore tried to say "I need you here at Hogwarts."
"No Albus, I swear on this necklace my grandmother's necklace," Naruko said as she pulled out the green jewel that hung around her neck. "Now tell me the truth why am I here."
"Some truths are too much to bear Naruko," Dumbledore said in a tired voice as you look across at the woman that reminded him so much of his sister.
"That is not your decision to make." Naruko finished. As the two had their standoff McGonagall and Snape remain silent as they watch the scene unfold.
"Sirius Black has escaped Azkaban with the sole goal of killing Harry Potter." Dumbledore let his words hang in the air for the moment."Now the ministry wishes to send its Dementors to this school but Cornelius and I have agreed. that if you, Naruko are willing to be stationed here no Dementor will ever be allowed to step foot inside this school." It was sound reasoning they could all admit who better to catch series Black than the woman who caught him once before. However, Naruko always looked underneath the underneath, and right now she was too pissed to see the logic.
"So that's it, I'm to your watchdog to be used to keep the ministry out while Potter is the bait to draw out the bastard," Naruko said angrily at Dumbledore's plan.
"Why do you twist my words," Dumbledore said quietly with a sad disappointment at how Naruko saw things. However, this seems to be the thing to finally calm her down as she realized what she had just said.
"Albus I'm sorry," Naruko said heavily and she fell back into a chair. "I -I didn't mean to say that. . . .for it to sound that way. Of course, I'll agree to this plan those damned adventures shouldn't be around children." She finished saying with some confidence back in her voice.
"Thank you my dear and now for the second reason why I called you here," Dumbledore said as he sat up in his chair the twinkle back in his eyes. "I would like to offer you a job here at the school." There was a moment of silence before McGonagall, Snape, and Naruko finally reacted to the Headmaster's words.
"WHAT!?"
