Chapter .3.
Artemis had decided to make soup as she was left alone with her thoughts and her thoughts were more dark and miserable these days. She couldn't believe this was real. How could this be real? How could people she knew end up here after all this time? You would think if someone would have found her it would have been centuries ago. After all she had spent the last 500 with only her tormentors and the people that come here that need rescuing.
So why now?
Was the Fates messing with her?
Were Nico, Malcolm and Will here to mess with her by her tormentors?
No that couldn't be, she couldn't see them working together.
At least she didn't think so. But who knows as times have changed and she hadn't been around for it.
She shook her thin gold chains on her wrist and ankle that helped bind her to this island. Even if these Demi…immortals wanted to save her they couldn't save her these chains couldn't be broken.
Artemis sighs she couldn't think on the possibilities of them helping her. She needed to help them and see them safely off so they could get back to their families. Their families needed them. They didn't need her anymore.
Well maybe her bro…he did but she couldn't do it.
She couldn't try.
Too dangerous not for her but for him.
Yes it was best just to get these boys well and see them off.
Then she could get back to her miserable imprisoned life.
Yes that is what she would do…
Nico and Malcolm stayed in the room Artemis bought them too. Waiting for either Will to wake up or Artemis to come back.
They had looked around and it appeared to be Artemis's room but it had very little in it. There were clothes that looked worn, and self-made. And looked to have been patched and fixed multiple times.
Did Apollo know his sister was alive?
No of course not if he did he would have been by Artemis's side in a heartbeat. He wouldn't have let her live like this.
What the Hades was going on here?
"What do you think is going on?" Nico asks Malcolm.
"I haven't a clue. But a thing for certain is that if Apollo knew Artemis was alive he would have been here in a heartbeat. Apollo is not one to allow his sister to suffer", Malcolm reasons.
"Yes those were my thoughts as well", Nico agrees, "What is with those thin gold chains?" Nico muses.
"I don't know if you could call them chains", Malcolm tells him.
"How else would you stop a powerful Goddess from leaving this place?" Nico reasons.
"Point. But how or who could possibly be powerful enough to stop the Goddess of the Hunt from leaving and going anywhere?" Malcolm asks.
"I don't know. But I hope we can figure it out. Apollo has suffered and by the looks of it Artemis has as well", Nico replies.
Suddenly a groan broke them from their conversation and thoughts.
"Nico?"
"Will!" Nico exclaims in relief that he was awake…
Will only remembered a bang and everything went black. His hearing come back first. He heard the whispers of Nico and Malcolm. Thank Gods they were alright!
But where were they? He felt he was lying on something that wasn't familiar and could possibly be a bed. But he wasn't sure with his eyes shut.
He groaned as he moved his muscles.
"Nico?" he mumbles.
"Will!" he hears his beloved husband exclaim.
His eyes open in time to see a blur of movement as he was pounced upon by his husband.
"Neeks! Careful", Will groans.
"Sorry", Nico apologetically while blushing.
Nico felt unmeasurable relief and mentally thanked Artemis for her aid. He made a promise to himself to thank her when she came back AND figure out a way to help her. She had not only saved Will's life but also he was sure His and Malcolm's.
"What happened? Where are we?" Will asks looking around in confusion.
"What do you remember?" Malcolm asks.
"We were attacked then everything went black until I woke up here", Will rasps.
"Same. But WE woke up on a beach and we didn't have supplies…", Malcolm starts.
"Then how am I…"
"We were trying to figure out what to do. When a familiar voice called out to us. It was a voice we haven't heard in s very, very long time", Nico tells him.
Nico was trying to easy Will into it. As Artemis was Will's Aunt and Will had grieve for her.
"Who would that be?" Will rasps his throat dry.
"Me, nephew…son of Ap…Apollo", a female voice says.
Will looks up and was shocked.
No, no it couldn't be. There was no way she could have survived and left his Father thinking she was dead.
"No your dead", Will rasps.
Artemis rolls her eyes. How many times will she have THIS conversation?
She walks slowly to the bed and holds out a glass that was mixed with water and nectar. Her nephew looked at it suspiciously.
She sighs.
"Nephew this is water and nectar. I don't have much. So I blend them together. They will help with your dry throat and your still lingering injuries", Artemis explains.
"You can trust her. It IS her. She has been tending to ALL of us", Nico assures his Husband.
Will shakily takes the glass and drinks it slowly as he studies the woman.
She DID look like his Aunt. But didn't at the same time. She looked more like his Father. Sunny blonde hair with hints of dirt in it. And one of her eyes were blue with a weak ring of silver around it and the other was white and seemed clouded in a way. If this was his Aunt she also had five scars down her face and neck and he saw the traces of them on her arm. She also had a handprint bruise on the other side of her face. There was a collar around her neck and he could see the thin golden chain on her wrist and ankle and seemed to lead somewhere. But he couldn't tell where.
The drink his…Aunt made helped his throat and made him feel less sore.
"You ARE Lady Artemis aren't you?" Will asks.
"Yes. But I am no Lady anymore. I am nothing", Artemis replies with pain in her eyes.
That had the three worried. Why did she believe she was nothing?
"How are you alive?" Will asks.
"That I can't say young one", Artemis replies.
"How could you put my Father through the pain of thinking you were dead?" Will asks his eyes flashing.
But his anger starts to disappear as he sees the same pain in her eyes that were always in his Fathers.
"I had no choice", Artemis whispers.
"Who could control the mighty Goddess of the Hunt?" Will asks.
"And an Olympian?" Nico adds.
"The one that could make every male whether it be mortal or immortal run for the hills when she bought out her hunting knives?" Malcolm asks.
"How could one such as you leave when you had people who loved you?" Will asks.
"How could you leave people to grieve for you? And think you have been erased from existence?" Nico asks.
"How could you let my Father drown himself in grief? Even to this day he still grieves. He is not the fun, bright and sunny Father I used to know. How could you let him fall when he never let you fall?" Will asks her bitterly.
Each thing they said ripped the soul of Artemis apart. She felt herself breaking more and more then she already was.
They were right he never let her fall. She how could she?
"Do you even care of the pain you not only put my Father through but Thalia too?" Will asks.
"I am no longer what I once was. I am no Goddess and I am certainly not an Olympian. I am no longer worthy to be either. I am a woman who no longer has the freedom to be with those she holds dear. And don't you dare say I don't care. I care more then you can ever know and being apart from them…HIM is surely killing me", Artemis replies and the look of despair and self loathing was in her eyes.
That made ALL their anger leave them.
Something was horrible wrong here.
Before they could say something she leaves the room and they were left in guilt ridden silence.
What had they done?
Artemis covers her mouth with her hand as she slides down the wall crying. How could she have hurt those she loved so?
Oh that's right she was trapped here without much of a choice.
Had she been isolated for so long from the world and have lost what had made her HIS sister?
Was she causing more suffering then good?
She sobbed into her hand.
Even if she wanted to nothing could change the past or the future. She would still be trapped here and without him.
Even if Nico, Will and Malcolm remember when they leave here and told the others. Would they even bother to help her and go against some of their own?
How could anyone forgive her?
What she has done was unforgivable even if she really didn't have a choice.
She looked at the scars on her pulse points on her wrists.
Maybe it was time for her to find another way out.
A permeant way out from everything and everyone. So she couldn't cause anymore harm. Maybe it was time to try and leave…leave this world behind…
If only…
