Thank you to everyone who has favorited, followed or reviewed this fic so far.
Also, now, due to Homelander's bullcrap, the Believe Expo is cancelled, don't think that stuff would get traction when your flagship superhero is a confirmed villain.
Guest 1: Thanks for the review. Sounds like fun but not sure I can put it in. Not familiar with Starcraft, sorry.
Guest 2: Thanks for the review. Glad you enjoyed. Yeah, I heard.
Guest 3: Thanks for the review. 1. Yeah, Kal would. 2. He sure would be. 3. Yeah, I'm just doing my own thing here.
Chapter 2- New 'Heroes'
Vought Industries
Homelander burst in, furious, Maeve simply hanging behind.
He walked to Stillwell and screamed. "THOSE FUCKWITS CALLED ME A VILLAIN! THEY BOOED ME! WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE?!"
Stillwell tried to calm him down. "Homela-"
"HOW DARE THEY DO THIS TO ME AFTER ALL I DID FOR THOSE PATHETIC LOSERS?!"
They saw the TV playing the news of his beatdown with the headline- 'Homelander exposed as a psychotic villain'.
He screamed and used his Heat Vision to destroy the TV as Stillwell sighed while Maeve just shook her head.
"Look", Stillwell started. "We can just say-"
"WHAT? WHAT DO WE SAY?! HUH?! WHAT DO WE SAY?!"
"Stop screaming like a man-child."
Homelander turned around to see Stan Edgar walking in, looking supremely unimpressed.
"Mr. Edgar", Stillwell greeted him politely.
"Miss Stillwell", Edgar greeted back before turning to Homelander. "Your actions really caused a mess over there, and with these two new Supers who we don't know a thing about beating you up and saving that plane on live TV, its even worse."
"It's not my fault! They just showed up-"
"Grow up and learn to take responsibility", Edgar told him with no sympathy in his voice at all, as he then looked between Homelander and Maeve. "You two are going to lay low for now, don't move until I say, don't make a sound until I say, understand?"
"Understood", Maeve simply said. She was going to move and make sounds, just not anything regarding the Super business, rather it would be about what she personally wanted, that would be it really, yep, that would be it.
This was finished.
"No", Homelander really did not know when to quit, due to having had great power and no one to challenge him about it. "I am your flagship superhero. You can't just do thi-"
"The point is….that you are under a misconception that we are a superhero company. We are not. What we are, really, is a pharmaceutical company."
The words stabbed Homelander like a knife through the gut, as he realized no matter how much power he had right now, he couldn't disobey Stan Edgar without making things even worse for himself.
For the first time in his life, he had lost a fight (that too brutally and in front of everyone after not saving a plane), and then not gotten what he wanted.
"This isn't over", Homelander snarled but the threat was empty, and with that, he stormed out, stomping his foot in a rage and breaking the ground.
Maeve just looked at Edgar and Stillwell, then walked out on her own accord, not giving them even a second glance, they just were not worth it. None of this was worth it, what had happened now, had proven it for sure.
She was curious about those two new Supers though, who were clearly a lot more powerful than anything on this planet so far.
And for some reason, she found them sincere. Like she was when she had first begun, only they were a LOT more sincere than that.
No, that was impossible, all did it for publicity. Yep, that was right. Publicity is what mattered, ethics, heroism and morality never really existed, they were just words to be thrown around to fool the masses.
Maeve knew, she had seen it happen before, to herself, and it would never change. She and Homelander would be replaced by two more, and the cycle would continue.
Well, at least she could get out.
Steve and Kal were now in normal clothes, as Steve had made his suit disappear, and Kal had sped around and gotten some clothes for himself, and now both were in a cyber café, looking up information about this whole world on the computer.
"Well", Kal noted what he had read and relayed it. "This world has a team of superheroes called the Seven, sponsored by a company called Vought."
"Kind of like how we Avengers are associated with Stark, though he's not our sponsor or anything, just another member like the rest of us", Steve said as he pulled a chair and sat down next to Kal, the two reading together.
"Huh? They kind of remind me of my own team. Homelander dresses up like me and has similar powers, Maeve is Diana, this Black Noir guy is like Bruce, A-Train is Bart, the Deep is Arthur, while Starlight, well, can't think of a counterpart for her but she reminds me of Courtney for whatever reason", Kal said, finishing all of the comparisons in his head. "There's Translucent and he can go invisible, but no counterpart with him."
"Well, there's Sue on Earth-10005 but she has more powers than that and is a good person. Counterpart or not though, they only resemble your team and others we know in powers, not character, considering what Homelander did there", Steve reminded Kal who had to nod.
"Yeah, though I saw Maeve, she seemed reluctant", Kal told Steve. "To leave the people, she didn't want to do it, it was more like she was scared of Homelander."
"Could be", Steve had to concede to that, since sometimes people didn't act out of fear, and he could understand why, as they might have a lot on the line.
Not everyone had it in them, and there was nothing wrong with that at all.
"So Vought sponsors these heroes, and I guess they make them get off scot-free", Kal said, noting a report of A-Train having run through a girl and destroyed her body a while ago, and there was an apology video too for that, but that was it, nothing more. "So he killed an innocent with his carelessness, gave this apology and that was it, no consequences. They protected him and covered it up, shrugged off the blame."
"No different from the Accords, they just remove accountability", Steve nodded in agreement. "The governments would have started covering anything wrong up if they didn't like it, including people."
"I know, we had a Vigilante Registration Act too, though it was more of Darkseid's manipulation. And well, with Homelander exposed I think it's going to get worse before it gets better", Kal said when he suddenly heard something, narrowing his eyes.
"What?" Steve asked.
"You don't hear that?" Kal asked him.
"No I don't hear anything", Steve said.
"Right, special frequency to contact me", Kal realized and told Steve. "Someone here wants to meet me. What do you say we both go together?"
"Wouldn't mind", Steve agreed as they walked out of the café into an alley. "So someone here knows you or something?"
"I know a lot of people, maybe someone followed us", Kal shrugged as then they changed into their superhero suits, and flew up into the sky to reach wherever the frequency was coming from.
Steve and Kal reached the place and walked inside, shocked to see who it was who had called them both.
"Lex?" Kal asked in shock. "You….how….?"
"Hello Clark", Lex greeted him with a smile and then turned to Steve. "Steve Rogers, Captain America, hello. I am-"
"I know who you are", Steve cut him off, exchanging a look with Kal.
"You went missing from prison", Kal remembered. "We all thought you were planning some kind of revenge on all of us."
"Well, you were wrong, my destiny is different and greater than what I used to think, Clark", Lex said as he paced around. "Our destinies I now realize are entwined, just not in the way we think."
"So what? You don't hate me anymore, is that it, Lex?" Kal asked with a snarl. "For a long time you have hated everything about me, because I didn't tell you who I was. I told you already, deep down I knew who you were and so I never told you. And last time we met, you sent a psycho after us all and pretended to save us to be a hero. I haven't forgotten."
"This isn't about that, Clark, that's in the past now, this isn't about you and me", Lex said, shaking his head.
"What's this about then?" Steve asked.
"I used to think you a threat, all that power, nothing to stop you, you were a God who looked down on us all from above, the fate of the world was on your hands", Lex said, making a 'pinch' sign with his fingers.
"My powers may make me like a God, but I do not think anyone lesser than me, we are all equals, power or not", Kal simply said.
"Guess I realize that now, I entered this world 2 years before the current year", Lex said, shocking both of them. "I built another LexCorp from the ground, now I am Vought's only competition."
"So you want to do what, exactly?" Steve asked.
"After seeing the 'heroes'", Lex air-quoted, "of this world, especially your poor evil parody", Lex said to Kal with a shake of his head, "I realize you weren't the worst after all. You could have done a lot worse than him if you wanted, yet you never did, and you haven't ever done anything for PR either."
"So, that's all it took to convince you?" Kal asked incredulously.
"Oh no, I still don't like you, but there are worse people out there, like Homelander, and the rest of them", Lex said with a scoff. "I had plans to take them out, now they are accelerated."
"You want our help", Steve said in realization.
"What the fuck?!"
The two turned as Billy Butcher arrived, looking at Steve and Kal angrily, with Hughie and Mother's Milk a safe distance away, while Frenchie was still with the Female, trying to talk to her and form a connection with her.
Steve did a double take on noticing Butcher, noting he was the doppelganger of Éomer.
"Aren't you two the guys who saved the plane and humiliated Homelander live?" Hughie asked, seeming a little excited. "Who are you two?"
"They are fucking Supers, probably did it for publicity", Butcher snarled, walking up to them. "Who sent you? Vought's new flagship heroes?"
Well, Butcher clearly wasn't half as polite or noble as Éomer, though to be fair, everyone in Middle-earth was really polite.
Plus, Steve could see he had some pain and rage in his eyes, he had been through a lot.
"No", Kal shook his head. "We are no one's flagship heroes."
"So, where are you from?" MM asked out of curiosity.
"You wouldn't believe us if we told you", Steve said with a shake of his head.
"My concern is why the fuck are you two here?" Billy asked with a sneer.
"Language", Steve held up his finger.
"Really, what are you, a wanker?" Butcher asked as Steve rolled his eyes.
"I thought you'd go into a coma from all this language", Kal quipped to Steve as both shared a chuckle.
"Yeah, my body functions are slowing down", Steve added with another chuckle.
"They are here because I called them", Lex said as now Butcher turned to him in rage.
"You called them? Who the fuck do you think you are? You lost your mind, you cunt?" Billy grabbed Lex by the collar. "I agreed to work with you, not with Supers."
"Get your hands off of me", Lex said in a calm tone, but the way he said it, even Butcher was very, very slightly unnerved, and let go as Lex straightened his collar. "You will not touch me like that again."
Lex then stretched and said. "You'd have noticed, before 2 years, it was like I didn't even exist, no Luthor, nothing."
"Yeah, its like you popped out of thin air", Hughie agreed.
"Well, its because I didn't exist till then, on this world."
He got incredulous looks.
"That's it, you're fucked up in the head", Butcher scoffed with a shake of his head.
Steve and Kal wondered if Butcher ever said a sentence without an expletive in it.
"What are you trying to say?" MM asked him. "That you are an alien?"
"No, that'd be him", Lex pointed to Kal, and they shot him incredulous looks.
"You're an alien?" Hughie asked.
"Yeah, I am an alien, from Krypton", Kal confirmed.
"Krypton, not of this world, you think I'm an idiot?!" Billy asked with a scoff.
"By not of this world, I mean I am from another Earth."
Billy scoffed and walked to a corner. "That's it, I'm done with this!"
"Multiverse theory?" Hughie asked and Lex nodded. "But that's just sci-fi stuff!"
"It's not", Steve now spoke up as they turned to him. "It is real, the Multiverse is all real, there are many Earths that vibrate at a different frequency, and are not visible to each other because of it. Your Earth is one of the many."
"Oh boy…." Hughie trailed off, in shock.
"Is there any proof?" MM asked, not convinced much himself.
"Not much, sadly", Kal shook his head.
"I am not of this world, and he is from the same world as me", Lex said, gesturing to Kal, before gesturing to Steve. "While he's from a different world than us all. Now by luck, they are all here."
"Bad luck you mean, assuming this is not more bullshit", Billy said with another snarl.
"It's not, how else do you explain me popping out of thin air 2 years ago?" Lex asked, raising his arms to either side, and none of them had a reply to that.
"Well, but that's your only proof", Hughie pointed out.
"I know, not much, but they're here to help, this guy", Lex pointed to Kal. "Is the greatest hero in my world", he looked to Butcher. "Like you think about all Supers, I used to think he wants to rule us all and is waiting for an opportunity to do so", Lex seemed a bit wistful, then he said. "I'm still not his biggest fan, but seeing how bad Homelander is, I realize he wasn't that bad, he has more power in his pinky toe than Homelander had in his entire life."
That statement shocked them as MM asked. "So…..how powerful are you?"
"Oh he pushed a planet once", Lex boasted, only shocking them more.
"Bullshit!" Butcher snarled.
"You weren't there", Lex shrugged.
"It never happened!" Butcher sneered.
"Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it didn't happen", Lex countered Butcher's argument. "Anyway, Superman here will help us, and so will Captain America."
"So, he's an alien, what's your story?" Hughie asked Steve.
"Had an experiment done on myself in World War II, got a Super Soldier Serum which turned me into a Super Soldier, so I fought Nazis, then I got frozen in ice and woke up 70 years later in present day", Steve held up his Green Lantern Ring. "Then got this Ring which gave me more powers."
"You had experiments done on yourself willingly? You an idiot?!" Butcher asked Steve incredulously.
"No, I just wanted to defend my country from bullies like the Nazis", Steve confessed with an honesty to his voice, something which Butcher noted, but then shrugged off.
"Eh, they are just like the rest", Butcher scoffed to Lex.
"You've met the Supers of your world, not the Heroes of mine", Lex countered to him.
"All right, leave the shit out of it, what's your plan?" Butcher asked Lex.
"Well, with their actions having exposed Homelander, my plan got a lot easier", Lex confessed to them as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a vial. "What I told you about- Compound V, it is injected in babies and used to give them superpowers."
"Wait what?" Kal asked. "All Supers get their powers from this drug is what you're saying?"
"Oh yeah, they get their powers from this, and Vought just lies to everyone about them being superheroes, when they are Vought's own creations, Vought profits on them, they are a pharmaceutical company who used it to create superheroes", Lex said, putting the vial back inside. "And I have a lot more than just this one."
"This is…." Steve trailed off, horrified, realizing babies were experimented on against their consent with this drug, and turned into Supers. "My God!"
"Took the words right out of my mouth", Kal nodded with a sigh.
"How did you get it?" MM asked Lex.
"I have a source in their hospital", Lex told them all, thinking of said source who was none other than Lamplighter, whom Lex had managed to convince to be on his side.
He had a lot more resources too, all of them carefully built towards exposing the Seven and Vought for what they were.
"So, how do you plan to prove this is what gives Supers their powers?" Steve then asked.
"My source is a very nice asset", Lex said with a simple shrug. "Anyways, originally I was going to wait a little, but with these two here, we have nothing to fear."
"You really want to do good here, Lex? Or is it just another game?" Kal then asked him.
"Tell me, Clark, what will I do here that's worse than what Vought and their Supers have done?" Lex asked him back.
"We know normal people who can be worse than any Supers", Steve said with a shrug.
"That's bullshit, you are all the same, arrogant pieces of shit who look down on us due to your powers which make you think you're Gods", Butcher snarled back in rage.
"No, we're not Gods, just people with Powers, it doesn't make us better, what we do is what decides what we are", Kal told Butcher sincerely, again shutting him up for now. "You'd have bad experiences with some Supers, but not all are bad. I've had bad experiences with his family too", Kal gestured to Lex. "But not all of them are bad. Some changed their ways." He thought of Tess and Lionel both as he said that.
"Yeah, I noticed, they clearly weren't destined for greatness", Lex said as Kal rolled his eyes.
"What's that?" Hughie asked, pointing at the open TV, and all looked at it. Stillwell was doing a press conference with the headline saying 'Vought Executive apologizes for Homelander's actions'.
"So, another insincere apology, why am I not surprised?" Butcher wondered.
"What do you think they're gonna do?" Steve asked Kal.
"Try to win back the public, that's their main intention here", Kal replied to Steve with folded arms.
"We know what Homelander and Queen Maeve did is unforgivable, and they are being dealt with accordingly, we will not let them get away scot-free with abandoning so many innocent lives on a crashing plane on purpose", Stillwell told the press as camera flashes went off and questions were asked. "But, we realize, that at day's end, the world still needs Heroes, and now we are going to introduce two Heroes who are actually genuine."
The press wondered if she was introducing Superman and Captain America, who had actually saved the plane, but then appeared a woman with dark hair, wearing a dark suit with a cape as she waved at them all.
"Hello everyone, I am Stormfront, and don't worry, all girls can be like me if they try hard enough, because that's what girl power is about! Rising above your limitations, ladies!" Stormfront announced with raised hands as there was applause for her. "We women are gonna take over! Away with the patriarchy! Let's smash it!"
More applause by the ladies in the crowd, and even the spineless guys.
Lex started laughing.
"Why are you laughing?" Butcher asked him.
"Who wouldn't laugh at that?" Kal asked with a chuckle, thinking about Lois' reaction to this feminazism.
"I have a different reason, I'll tell you soon", Lex assured them. "Just let this comedy end first."
Then another guy appeared, this one had a dark greenish suit, with the star of the American Flag star on his chest, and he carried a brass colored triangular shield.
"I am Soldier Boy", he simply introduced himself.
"He is our hero from World War II, he was frozen in ice, but now we have him back, Homelander before there was a Homelander, and unlike him, he is a good man", Stillwell announced as the stupid media ate it up and applauded for Soldier Boy too.
Steve groaned and said. "And now they have an evil version of me too. Why, what have I done to deserve this?"
Kal looked at Soldier Boy with narrowed eyes and asked Lex. "Doesn't he look like-"
"Yeah, he does look like our mutual friend Jason Teague", Lex nodded, remembering, then added with a chuckle. "And he is even less impressive."
"Funny, his story seems to be like yours", Butcher said to Steve with a scoff. "And its bullshit too, he is disrespecting people who actually fought in World War II."
"So, you and me both have evil parodies, feel honored?" Kal asked as both chuckled a little.
"Very", Steve said sarcastically.
"Evil parodies of the real deal is what they are", Lex said simply, looking at them all, and said. "Anyways, Vought managed to let me have the upper hand this time. They practically fell on their knees and begged me to expose them."
"What are you talking about?" Hughie asked them.
"Stormfront is a woman of many masks", Lex said, getting up. "And now we-"
Frenchie came out in that moment, and was shocked to see Steve and Kal. "Whoa! Why are they here?"
"To help", Hughie told him.
"Well then, help fast, I was told Black Noir is near here, he has all of my addresses", Frenchie revealed, horrifying them as Steve and Kal exchanged a look, then the latter heard something.
"I think he is already here", Kal told Frenchie who paled.
Same time
Stormfront and Soldier Boy were walking back in after their introduction as Stillwell told them both. "Thank you for this, we appreciate it. You two are our flagship heroes now."
Ashley was nearby and started talking to Soldier Boy. "That was a great introduction, people are fans of you already, now let's get some stories of you in Wo-"
She was cut off when he grabbed her by the throat and pinned her to the wall, glaring into her eyes. "Speak when spoken to, understand?"
He let her go as she coughed and nodded fearfully, and he walked off with the other two.
Ashley realized now Soldier Boy was even worse than Homelander.
Not much else left to go, Lex already has it under control, and Steve and Kal being here makes it easier for him, and hope the reunion was enjoyed.
Kal and the rest never knew that Lex was killed, since Mar-Novu resurrected him shortly after, which means they only think he escaped and went missing.
I'm trying to make Kal and Lex civil to each other without making them friendly, since this time Lex has the same goal as the good guys.
And this is a rare case where Lex actually has good intentions. Its still for self—serving reasons but it will do more good than bad.
Next 2 chapters will be more thrilling.
Anyway, hope all enjoyed and see you all next time with another chapter.
