Chapter 5- A brighter future

Fortunately, Kal had a pair of meta-dampening cuffs on him when he and Steve had been transported to this world, and Lex had used that as a blueprint to create various more of the type.

So with that Homelander, Stormfront, Soldier Boy, Deep, A-Train and Black Noir were all arrested using those special cuffs, and so was Stillwell and most of Vought.

Lamplighter ended up in prison too over his past actions but due to his confession, he would only stay in prison for a year, while the rest would be in there for a long, long time. Pretty much for life really.

Lex also started construction of a prison to hold superpowered beings, which would add to the cuffs he already had.

Only Starlight and Maeve were safe from all of this, as the former was a new member and had confessed to being sexually assaulted by the Deep, while the latter wasn't involved in any scandals currently, and even for abandoning the plane, it was pointed out that Homelander had scared and forced her, she had wanted to save the people, not leave them to die, but Homelander had threatened her.

So Maeve and Starlight now remained the only heroes in this world, with Superman and Captain America hailed as Heroes too, alongside none other than Lex Luthor.

LexCorp

Lex watched the news where the media was saying- "Lex Luthor is clearly a hero for exposing the truth about Vought, the Seven, and Supers in general. So are Superman and Captain America, they don't do this for fame, I mean, we haven't seen them anywhere after the fight against the Seven, people like that, they truly want to do good. Now we can only hope Queen Maeve and Starlight show us their true quality, and any other heroes we get are that good."

Lex smirked and switched the TV off, then turned to see Steve and Kal walk in.

"You did it, didn't you?" Kal asked with his arms folded. "You finally became a hero like you had desired for so long."

"Do you envy that, Clark?" Lex asked him.

"No, I don't, I'm happy for you, Lex", Kal assured him catching Lex off-guard this time. "I am serious, this is what you always wanted, now you have it at last, I am happy for you."

Butcher walked in at that moment, and looking at Steve and Kal, commented. "You two, you're not so bad."

"Thank you", Kal said to him with a nod.

"You're a good man, Butcher, just don't let your past decide who you are now", Steve told him.

"Speaking of", Lex held up a file and handed it to Butcher. "One last thing for you, my friend. Take a look."

Butcher opened the file and read it, then looked at Lex with eyes that were actually grateful.

"Thank you", he said, barely controlling himself. "Thank you, for everything. But why didn't you tell me before?"

"Actually, this I found out after taking them down as it was highly classified info", Lex informed.

"Right", Butcher realized.

"Go get her", Lex smirked as Butcher nodded.

"I will", Butcher said, walking to the hallway to process it all first.

"So, happy for me, thank you, Clark", Lex said with a chuckle. "You always were too nice for your own good."

"You call that a weakness, I call it a strength", Kal replied to him.

"So now you're considered this world's hero, you are at the top of it, what will you do with this power?" Steve asked Lex.

"Well, unlike Vought, I shall help this world improve and progress into something better and stronger than what it is currently, with real Heroes like Maeve and Starlight, and of course Butcher's team too", Lex told both of them as he looked out of the window. "From up here, they seem so small, but living amongst them first before coming this high, guess it affects you."

He turned to them both again. "Death has changed me."

"Death?" Kal asked, he and Steve exchanging a shocked look. "What do you mean 'death'?"

"I died in prison, Clark, Doom killed me for failing my end of the bargain. First turned me in, then he killed me as I was a failure and loose end for him", Lex revealed, bitterness in his voice. surprising Kal once more with another reveal. "But then clearly, someone wanted me to do something, as I woke up on a hospital bed in this world, 2 years ago, someone brought me back, and gave me new purpose, sending me here, where I found it."

"Well, sorry about your death", Kal said genuinely, no matter how much he disliked Lex, he never wanted him dead, that was not something he would ever want.

"I know", Lex said with a sigh. "I guess you helping me here is all I needed, now I will be here."

"Well, as much as I hate to say it, you are good for this world", Kal said, and he was surprised he had something like that. "It needs you, Lex."

"Yeah, guess a world which brings out the worst in people with powers somehow brought out the best in you", Steve commented as Lex chuckled a bit.

"Guess it did", Lex said, chuckling more and then nodding too. He held out his hand to Kal. "Thank you, Clark."

"No problem, Lex", Kal replied, grasping Lex's hand and shaking it, a reminder of the good ol' days when they used to be brothers. Maybe Lex wasn't going to really be a good person, but at least Kal now knew he wasn't evil incarnate either, he was better than that at least.

"You too, Cap", Lex held out his hand and shook it with Steve.

"No problem", Steve simply said when a portal opened and out came Tony and Strange.

"Finally contacted the Wizard and we came right here and got you two, this would be Earth-72", Tony immediately said to Steve and Kal. "Nice seeing you two here."

"It's sorcerer", Strange simply said.

"Yeah, whatever", Tony scoffed a little, then they noticed who else was there.

"Oh you! Evil billionaire, prepare to be taken out by good billionaire", Tony said as he raised his hand but Kal lowered it. "What?"

"He is happy here in this world, they actually consider him a hero here because he took down bad guys on this world, and he didn't have to stage anything either", Kal revealed, shocking Tony.

"Well, that's a twist", Tony quipped a bit lamely.

"Things have changed, Lex is going to stay in this world now", Steve told him.

"As long as he doesn't have any plan risking the Multiverse, he can do whatever he wants", Strange simply said as Lex smirked and nodded.

Maeve, Starlight, Hughie and MM came in at that point.

"Oh!" Hughie saw the portal. "Guess you guys are going."

"Yeah, we are going now, our job's done", Steve told him.

"Well, thank you for all your help", Hughie said gratefully.

"Yup, couldn't have done it without you", MM nodded.

"Not a problem", Kal assured as he and Steve shook hands with them all.

"You two are the real heroes, if only the Seven was like you", Maeve said with a sigh.

"Well, now you two with Lex and Butcher's group can become what the Seven was supposed to be", Steve pointed out to Maeve. "And I know you will do good in this world."

"We will do our best", Starlight assured as they nodded.

"You know, I know someone like you on my Earth", Kal said, thinking of Stargirl. "So, just follow the path you're following, all right?"

"I will", Starlight smiled.

"What will you do when you go back?" Maeve asked Steve and Kal.

"Well," Steve thought before answering, "Probably explain this whole thing over drinks with my best friend from the war and a Thunder God, then book a date with my Amazon Goddess girlfriend, meet up with King Arthur, stop any world ending plot that may come up in the meantime, and play around with my pet T-Rex." Cue the shocked silence.

"Merde." Frenchie muttered.

"Okay, don't f-" Steve gave Billy a look, and he stopped, "-frigging tell us."

The rest snickered at Butcher finally being brought to heel.

"Maybe we can do something before leaving", Kal suggested to Steve.

A while later, Steve and Kal flew over the world, the people cheering on seeing them as they waved to the people with a smile.

Hughie and Annie shared a loving look, then looked up at the 2 Heroes flying and clapped, with MM and Frenchie, while Kimiko the Female, who was better now, just watched, but felt hope inside.

Lex just smirked as he saw the whole thing.

Butcher came upon a secret facility, then knocked on the door, and it was opened by none other than Becca Butcher.

She blinked once, then twice, not believing this was real, then realized it was.

Butcher smiled at her she let out a sound that was a mix between a laugh and a sob, and then kissed him on the lips before they shared a loving hug, reunited at last.

Butcher saw a little boy standing a few feet and knew whose son that was, but after seeing Steve and Kal, he knew not all Supers were bad, and this boy was innocent. He'd take care of him too.

Then they looked up to see Steve and Kal flying, and Butcher waved at them as Ryan and Becca had looks of awe.

"Who are they?" Becca asked.

"Heroes", Butcher told her begrudgingly.

Steve and Kal flew into Space with a smile, looking down at this world before them to which they had brought hope at last.

Later

A portal opened as out came Deadpool, wearing a 'Boys' t-shirt with and a jacket with 'the Seven' on the back.

"This is it, my favorite show."

Then he saw news of Lex Luthor as a hero being displayed with the Seven and Vought taken out and shut down forever.

"What the fuck?! How the hell did this happen?! No! This can't be!"

Then he realized how this could have happened.

"Aragorn, you moron! You ruined my favorite show! Fuck you! I hate you FOREVER!"

And that's the end of the main plot, Kal and Lex depart on mostly good terms.

So, just to clear it up, Lex does have an extrapolator or something of the sort given to him by Mar-Novu himself to jump around worlds, but he didn't use it as there was no need to. He'd have used it to send Steve and Kal back but Strange and Tony arrived first.

Anyway, hope all enjoyed how Steve and Kal took out the bad members of the Seven, and Lex doing something good for once, even if it was to come out on top.

And the ending was a homage to Christopher Reeve's Superman films.

Also, Kal and Steve will have an interaction with Ryan in 'When Heroes live their lives', not to worry.
