I said at the end of A Warm Detour that there were different options for a continuation. This is one that stuck out to me.
As a reminder, I do not own Avatar.
Enjoy!
Kya remembered the day the Fire Nation came to the village. They had come to conduct raids many times, but this one had been different. They had specifically come seeking the last waterbender in the village.
Her own daughter.
It wasn't a hard decision to have herself offered in Katara's place. The hard part came when the soldiers tore her from her home and forced her into a cage. They never asked whys he didn't use bending to escape. They assumed she was too weak or too broken to try.
She was neither, just a non-bender.
She couldn't do anything when they stuck that cage in one of their ships. When they bound her limbs with chains. When they gave her only the smallest amount of water to survive. When they gave her food that barely kept her ribs from showing.
And when they reached the shores, things didn't improve. She was still in a cage, still bound with chains. The only difference was that instead of moving her in a boat, the soldiers carried her off in a carriage. Like some sort of special animal carried off for a new owner.
She had heard stories of the prisons waterbenders were being carried off towards. Where the torture they experienced was enough to make them curse the moon. Curse the fact that they had been born with the gift of the Koi fish. And she wasn't a bender. It would be worse for her.
The carriage was riding along the side of a cliff as Kya was in her thoughts. It was better than being in her body, which was weak from malnutrition and exhaustion. She honestly didn't know if she would make it to the prison.
"What is that?"
That was the first thing she heard the guards say in quite a while. They had been silent most of the ride. Then she heard a different sound.
Something like rustling.
"Go check it out."
She heard one of the guards jump off the carriage and go to see something. She didn't hear him come back. But they did hear something else.
BOOM!
The first thing Kya noticed was the fact that she was in a bed. Not a cell. There were no chains around her wrists or feet. She wasn't bound to anything. In fact, the bed she was sitting on was rather comfortable.
A fact that confused her greatly. Why was she comfortable?
She had heard the stories of what the Fire Nation did to their prisoners. None of them ever sounded good.
Looking around, Kya noticed more details about the room. Burgundy-colored wooden walls. Clean floors. And a window that lets the sunlight inside. Surprisingly, there was also a table with a plate of fruit on it.
*CLICK*
That's when the door opened. And someone she did not expect came in.
After weeks around Fire Nation soldiers, she was expecting a man in uniform. Maybe with some facial hair and a sneer. That was the man who had been captured.
But this person didn't even seem to be a full man yet. Based on his young looks and still developing face, he seemed to be on the cusp of manhood. And wearing a red short-sleeved tunic with red shorts, along with tan skin, warm gold eyes, and windblown messy black hair, he certainly didn't fit the image of the Fire Nation her people had always painted. Especially since he carried nothing but a bag in his hands.
"You're awake."
Hearing a non-hostile voice helped Kya regain herself. Checking herself, she saw that she was still in the red prisoner rags. And her feet were still bare. So she had to present some level of dignity.
"Yes, I am awake. Who are you?"
A part of her expected the boy to be angered by her lack of intimidation. But instead, he looked nervous.
"Right, right. My name is Kazon. Are you alright?"
Kya's eyes widened. That was not an answer she had been expecting.
"Yes. Yes, I'm fine," she quickly said. "But, where am I?"
"Oh, this is, um, my home. It's a cabin. In the woods. The nearest town is Hira'a, and it's a couple of miles away from here. No one visits."
A brow raised at that... interesting answer. But Kya had more questions.
"Why am I here?"
"Ok, there are a few answers," Kazon said as he coughed to get started. "I threw firecrackers at the soldiers to mess with them, but then I noticed you in the cage. I ended up breaking you free, but you were passed out. So I bought you here since... there wasn't anywhere else."
Kya frowned. "But why help me? I'm not from your nation. Why risk yourself?"
Kazon's foot shuffled. "Let's just say that you're not the only one who has issues with the military."
That wasn't the best answer, but Kya could sense that Kazon wasn't up to explain more. So she chose not to ask.
"Ok, um, my question? Do you have a way back home?"
Kya didn't. She didn't even know where she was. All she could do was shake her head.
"Ok. I kinda figured that," Kazon admitted. "I'm going to go to the market for some supplies. I'll see if I can find anything about the Southern Tribe."
"Really?" Kya asked before she could stop herself. "You would do that for me?"
Kazon shrugged, though he still didn't seem entirely comfortable.
"I ask questions there anyway. It won't draw attention," Kazon said. "Oh, and I found this in the carriage they carried you in."
Kazon put the bag on the bed.
"Bye. I'll come back soon."
"Wait."
He stopped as he opened the door.
"You never asked my name. I'm Kya."
After a quick nod, Kazon was gone. Leaving Kya with nothing to do. As it was her only available option, she checked to see inside the bag.
It was her clothes. Her blue Water tribe clothes that she had been stripped of when the soldiers took her. She didn't even know how it survived. Or why it smelled washed and cleaned of dirt. But she was happy to the person she knew had done it.
With nothing else to do, Kya decided to change.
"I shouldn't have bought her here."
Now outside his front door, Kazon was free to think about the mistake he had made. It had seemed like a fun idea at the time. He had firecrackers, so he thought throwing them at some soldiers to mess with them would be a good use of time. He was going to run after throwing them until he saw the person inside the cage they were hauling.
He couldn't help himself. He saw someone in a similar position to his own so many years ago, and his body acted. He didn't want to see someone suffer like that.
Now the problem was taking care of her. Not in the sense of looking after her, she was older than him and seemed capable enough. Maybe. He would have to ask about when he came back.
He also needed to sound more confident when speaking to her. He was pausing a lot, and he needed to make sure that she understood that this was his cabin. She was just was staying there until he found her a way home. His conviction was being prepared as he circled the house to go to the market.
Yeah, he just needed to-
"Woah."
On his way around the cabin, Kazon passed the window to the room he had left Kya in. He could see inside the room.
He could see her changing into her blue clothes.
Her back was turned to him as she started to take the rags off of her body. Starting with the top. Kazon's eyes were glued to the woman as she lifted the tattered shirt over her head, exposing her smooth brown back to the young man secretly watching her.
Kazon was entranced. Living alone in the woods for so many years, having another human being around already had anxiety. But seeing an older and very beautiful woman take her clothes off was giving him emotions he had never felt before.
Emotions intensified when Kya's hands rested on her waist and pushed down the old red leggings. Her back was arched back as she did it, giving Kazon a wonderful view of her plump and round rear. Two brown and luscious cheeks, a body part Kazon had never seen in such an intimate light before. Especially from a woman who was beautiful in ways he had never seen, and who was in his house. Stripping inside his house, with himself able to get a view.
When Kya turned, Kazon was able to see her breasts. The two soft mounds would have screamed at Kazon had he not decided to quickly walk away. He didn't want to risk being caught.
His pants now felt very tight, and something was going on he had not previously experienced. Something he hoped would go away in time.
Kya needed something to do.
She had just changed, and she wasn't going to just stay in a room all day. Even if her body felt weaker than she liked, she was technically free. She wasn't sure where she was, and her only company was a boy she didn't even know and who had left for a market, but she was free.
So she might as well explore. She went to the door, opened it, and peered her eyes to the rest of the cabin.
Kya had to admit that for a small cabin hidden in the woods, Kazon's home was impressively stocked. She could see the outline of what seemed to be a kitchen in the dark, and it seemed spacious. There also seemed to be a shelf that housed a few scrolls. And that caught her interest.
Kya moved closer to what seemed to be the bookshelf. She traced her fingers on the smooth edges of the scrolls, trying to pick one to read. She finally decided on a random one, took it out, and opened it.
And saw a wanted poster.
A man by the name of Yun Gao. A deserter. But what caught her eye the most was the writing at the bottom.
Wanted Dead or Alive. 200 Coins. Son Also Missing.
Things finally started to make sense to Kya.
Kazon didn't live alone in the woods by choice. It was out of necessity. The Fire Nation army did not tolerate deserters, so his father had to be made an example of. He was an orphan on his own.
But what troubled Kya the most was the fact that Kazon was also wanted. For doing nothing other than being related to his father. Not a crime, just circumstance.
In a way, similar to her situation.
Kya put the scroll away and processed the new information. All she knew was that Kazon was a much more sympathetic case than she originally expected. After he had helped her, she felt that he deserved more than life had given him.
But it wasn't like she could fix that. At least, not in any way that she knew of.
Hours Later...
Kazon, as it turned out, was a man of his word. He did in fact ask around the market for where to find a path to the Southern Water Tribe. And he found one.
"Chameleon bay," He told her one night as he sat down beside her on the cabin's couch. "That's where a bunch of Southern Tribe warriors is going to be heading. You may find the person you're looking for there."
Chameleon Bay. Hakoda had told her about that place. A place near water where the men hoped to fight off the Fire Nation. Keeping that place safe, they hoped, would keep a part of the Earth Kingdom safe that would be willing to supply them.
"Though I don't think we should go yet," Kazon said, pulling Kya from her thoughts.
"Why not?"
"You just got out of a cage last night. You need to build back some strength. And I'm willing to help you until then."
Kazon wasn't entirely sure of keeping her around, mostly because of earlier. Whenever he looked at Kya, he was having trouble warding off the images of her naked body from earlier.
Kya knew that he was right. Though she felt fine right now, she knew that trying to push herself too far might compromise her health. So she needs to stop for a while until she was ready to make a trip.
"In the meantime, I'll try to see if there's a ferry that can take you to Chameleon Bay. Does that work?"
Kya had to agree. Besides, spending more time with Kazon might help her find a way to repay him. Hopefully, in a way that helped fight off the loneliness, he must feel all alone out here.
A week went by. An amount of time in which Kazon and Kya became more comfortable with each other in the cabin.
She found her little pleasures in cleaning and cooking whenever possible, while Kazon made sure to have supplies properly stocked. The two had their own rooms and their own spaces. Since they were going their separate ways in a few days, they gave each other space. It wasn't a rule or something they consciously did, just how things had turned out.
A fact that change in one night. When Kazon was sitting on the couch after having spent the day polishing his tools and hunting. He was tired, and he wanted to sit.
He was not expecting the older woman to sit down next to him. She was looking a little terse.
"Kazon. There is something you should know."
"What is it?"
"I read the scroll. The one about... the one with your father."
Kazon's eyes widened slightly. "Oh. Um, what did you think?"
Not the best response, but Kya continued.
"I need you to know that I don't think you deserve that. Your father is the one who left the army, and you should be paying for his actions."
This was surprising. A part of Kazon had almost expected her to either insult him or to tell him he did deserve this sort of life. After everything the Fire Nation did to her tribe, he wouldn't blame her.
"You saved my life, Kazon. You kept me from prison. So, I want to repay you."
"Repay me?"
"Think of it as a reward. You saved me, so I want to do something for you."
Kya shifted slightly on the couch. She hoped she didn't sound too forward or demanding, but she wanted Kazon to know.
"Can you think of anything I could do for you?"
A reward?
In all honesty, Kazon had not expected anything like this. The only reason he had helped Kya was that it seemed like the right thing to do after blowing her out of prison. And then he.. saw her.
This last week he had to fight the urges that had arisen from the secret viewing. Kya being so close was not helping. He was imagining things that he should be. A lot of touching. A lot of disrobing. And a lot of-
"Kazon? Is there anything?"
He didn't even pause to think. He pushed his head forward and smacked his lips against Kya's.
"UMPH!"
Shocked by his actions, Kya was initially pushed back by Kazon's pressing his lips against hers. She regained her balance, only for Kazon to start kissing her more intensely. His lips pushed more and more until Kya suddenly felt something try to go into her mouth.
"No."
Kya pushed the younger boy away, keeping him at bay by holding his shoulders. Her breathing was heavy, and she was looking down.
"We can't."
Kya walked away and closed her room, leaving Kazon to admonish himself.
"Stupid. I shouldn't have done that."
But he did. And now things would change.
They didn't speak the next day. Or even see each other.
Kazon woke up earlier to hunt. Kya left her room only for food and water. When Kazon came back, she closed herself away. And when he left again for another reason, she sat down on the couch to think.
"Why did it have to be that? Why that?"
Kya knew that she was attractive, and she was flattered that Kazon thought so. But she was married. She had children. And he was too young. She was too old for him.
"No one knows."
The moment that one traitorous thought entered her mind, Kya tried to fight it and others off. To no avail.
She was alone with him in the woods of the Fire Nation, miles from civilization. No one would know. And Hakoda never needed to know either. He would never meet Kazon, and his name would never need to leave her mouth again.
She could do anything she wanted to do. And the consequences would stay in the cabin.
Because despite all the reasons she shouldn't, Kya wanted to thank Kazon properly. He saved her when he didn't have to, and let her stay despite inconveniencing him. He had even found a possible way for him to return home.
He deserved something for that.
So when Kazon returned, Kya locked herself in her room for new reasons.
This had to be planned, and it needed to be done right. There had to be set rules and limits. It would only happen once, so it had to be special. It was risky, and she didn't know how it would work.
But Kya decided that she was going to repay Kazon. It was the least she could do.
This is where I will stop for now. As you can probably infer, the next chapter is where all the intimate stuff will happen.
This story will be shorter than the last one, since I don't think I can stretch it out past two chapters. But if this one does well, I might end up making another story similar.
Anyway, please leave reviews, tell me what you think, and I will see you all next time.
Bye!
