Buck was not looking forward to this. If anything he was absolutely dreading it.
The rest of the holiday with Eddie had gone wonderfully, if anything it was the perfect honeymoon for them.
They'd gotten to go on dates that they had both been hoping to take the other on for ages but neither had had the courage to speak up: Movie trips, outings to fun restaurants, excursions to see the giant fountains all around the area.
It had been so nice. They'd had time to fully learn one another all over again, not just as best friends but as partners. Away from everyone's prying eyes and it turned out that it hadn't been much different from how they usually acted, just with a lot more kissing and holding hands.
And the time away from everyone to just be themselves with nothing to hide, meant there was also nowhere to hide. They'd had all the deep, dark conversations. The scary talks about not being good enough for one another and how they felt about doing everything all so quickly. What would happen if they did decide to split up, or divorce? What would happen to Christopher? No topic was left unspoken. It had been difficult, there had been many tears shed as they both finally got to air the insecurities both had been bottling up for years. But now they were in a good place, a happy place. Both of them were wholeheartedly on the same page that this was what they wanted—a family.
Except, now the honeymoon was over, the holiday was finished and they both had to try and settle into a new routine. It wasn't that difficult. Again, it turned out that most of their lives already revolved around one another and it just meant more sleepovers for Buck at Eddie's, except this time he wasn't sleeping on the couch.
When they had got back they had sat down and explained everything to Chris. Buck had been so worried that Chris might not want him there, that he would rather Buck remain a friend than being anything more with his dad. Luckily, that had all been nothing to worry about when Chris had wholeheartedly accepted Buck and said now it made him an "official part of the family" before trying to say that the event deserved ice-cream for dinner.
Everything had been going great. Except now it was his first shift back. Which led to this moment of utter dread as he stared at his Captain's office.
Buck took a deep breath: one long inhale and another, longer exhale.
"Buck, I can see you out there. Why don't you just come in and tell me what you need?"
Buck flushed as he realised that although he may be standing outside the door, the door did in fact have a semi translucent window and he could be seen. He signed, pushing open the door, Bobby sitting behind the desk, a silent question on his face.
Buck shuffled in, trying not to make eye contact, he stood there awkwardly trying to figure out how he could explain.
"Sit down, Buck."
Buck shuffled awkwardly around the chair before collapsing into it.
"Now, are you gonna tell me what's going on? Or do I need to call Eddie?" Bobby questioned, teasingly.
Buck felt his cheeks heating up no matter how much he tried to stop it at the mere mention of Eddie. "Well, uh, you see, Cap…"
Buck glanced up to see Bobby looking at him.
"Buck, please just tell me you're not in any trouble and you're not hurt."
"NO! I mean, I'm not hurt, I'm married." He finally managed to spit it out, unable to deal with the agitable atmosphere any longer. He finally looked directly at Bobby who seemed to have froze.
Neither of them spoke. Buck was watching the myriad of emotions appearing on Bobby's face.
Bolly spoke. "You're… married?"
"Yes, Cap."
"Are you happy with this? Do I know them? Did you plan this? How did it happen? Does anyone else know?"
Buck heard the unasked question Bobby was dying to ask 'does Eddie know?'
Except, now he knew Bobby wasn't going to take it the wrong way now he heard the hard part over with, he could have some fun. "Yeah, you know them. It was more of a spur of the moment thing than anything planned but you know how Vegas is. Eddie was there though, and he's happy about it as well."
Buck had to stifle his laughter as he saw the strained look appear on poor Bobby's face when he said that Eddie was happy with it.
During their talks, they had realised that everyone else seemed to have a plan on when they would be getting together and realising they were in love. So they might have planned to have a little... fun when revealing to everyone what had happened.
"Eddie… knows about this? And he's okay with it?" Bobby manages to choke out.
"Yeah, it was a great night, both of us were really drunk but overall I think this is what I needed. Eddie thought it was a great night as well."
"He... did?"
"Yeah, we really think that this is the future I was set for."
It looked like Bobby was having a stroke. Or maybe he was just very constipated.
"So yeah. I'm gonna need the papers at some point to change all my details."
Bobby couldn't do more than whisper his reply. "Sure."
"I'll grab them off you later. Can we keep this on the quiet for now though, I haven't told the others yet?"
Buck jumped up from the chair as he heard his Captain whisper a quiet, "Sure, Buck."
Buck finally let him out of his misery as he was about to pull open the door and leave. "Thanks, Cap! You're great! So two copies of those forms and two new turnout coats for the Buckley-Diaz's!"
He left the office laughing whilst in the background he was sure he could hear Bobby's head thunk on the top of the desk where he'd dropped it.
It was good to be back at work.
