Yellow Chapter 11

While on the way to Cerise Island, Daisy and Professor Oak are in the lab, and Professor Oak yells at the screen, "Misty! Brock! Erika! Are you all right?"

"Grandfather, what's wrong?" Daisy is surprised at the tone as she asks.

"A catastrophe! The three cities...Pewter, Cerulean, and Celadon..." As they rush out of the lab, they can see smokes filling in the air. Daisy is surprised at the sight as she says, "That's...horrible..."

"They're being attacked by the Pokemon forces of Elite 4." Professor Oak says.

As they get back to the lab, they see the video Misty sent them about how the Gengars are attacking. Daisy asks, "Grandfather, what about Ash, Alice, and Yellow?"

"I've had word that they've reached the base of the Elite 4...Cerise Island." Professor Oak says, "Of course...they probably went there because they learned about the attacks! Out of the four armies that the Elite 4 control, three are on the mainland. This means that the defenses for the island must be sparse. They're probably trying to take advantage of that!"

At the same time, Blue and Blaine are facing the Elite Trio of Team Rocket, and Koga says, "Long time no see, Blue."

"What are you doing here?" Blue asks.

"After the battle at Silph Co., I heard that they couldn't even locate your bodies...then it was a trick?" Blaine asks.

"Let's save the details for later. At the moment, I hear the footsteps of our new guests..." Sabrina says as they look in the direction.

In the Elite 4 base, Lorelei says, "It seems our island has some visitors, Lance."

Lance says, "Hmph. No matter. By the way, where's Bruno?" Lance asks.

"Still searching for Red on Mt. Moon. He's such a romantic! He says, "I must settle this battle."" Lorelei says, but Lance replies, "Call him back right now!"

While leaving the helicopter, Ash, Alice, Yellow, and Delia are resting at a nearby forest. Ash and Alice are using Mew's powers to look through Pika's memories, and they want to find out what's happened.

Now they are in Pika's dream, and they see Red looking around the area. "According to the map from the Challenge Letter...Yup! This oughtta be the place!"

He takes a breath and says, "Hello! I'm Red from Pallet Town! Whoever sent me this challenge, I'm here!"

But as nobody replies, Red says, "Don't tell me it's a prank..."

"No, it is no prank." Just then, the rocks that Red is stepping into turns out to be an Onix, and it shakes Red off, but Red manages to jump down with ease, and Bruno says, "Just a little test...Red of Pallet Town. You have good reflexes, at least. But I do not like surprise attacks. My first Pokemon is in this ball...choose yours now."

Ash says, "So that's Bruno...but is he under control?"

"I think not." Alice replies.

Red says, "Liste...I'm always up for a good battle...but aren't you even going to explain why you sent that challenge letter? And what's this "Elite 4" anyway?"

As Pikachu and Hitmonlee are fighting, Bruno laughs, "The rumors of your skill do not do you justice. You evade the multidirectional nunchucks with astonishing ease. Now, try Hitmonlee's second weapon...High Jump Kick!"

Pika dodges the attack and goes for Thunder Wave, but it is kicked back to the ground. Seeing how Pika was knocked down, Red laughs a little and says, "I dunno...it's like...these two years after winning the Pokemon League...I've accepted a lot of challenges...but they were all so boring. It's been a while...I guess ever since my battle with Blue...that I've felt this alive! This time it's my turn!"

Bruno also replies by spinning his nunchucks. Alice says, "Bruno's strategy is quite mysterious...is he going to switch Pokemon or he is going to fool him?"

Ash says, "With those nunchucks and Hitmonlee's legs, he can keep his opponent constantly off balance. A normal trainer has to release his Pokemon maybe six feet away at the most, but the way those nunchucks stretch, he can open a PokeBall right in front of his opponent...and bring it from any direction! What a simple way to enhance a Pokemon's speed."

And it turns out that Bruno changes into Hitmonchamn, so Red switches into Poli. The two of them are exchanging punches, but Poliwrath faints in the end.

"Not showing your opponent all your attacks is a useful tactic. While the right fist was flinging Fire Punch...the left was jabbing with Thunder Punch! This is especially damaging for a Water-Type Pokemon...like your Poliwrath. The damage accumulated while you were watching the less effective Fire Punch!"

"Pretty impressive. I didn't even notice." Red says, and then they send out Gyarados versus Onix. Bruno says, "You spoke truly! The sensation of a truly great battle stirring the blood! I feel the same! For me, a battle is everything! I have searched long for an opponent of your caliber!"

But Ash and Alice notice that Agatha and Lorelei are nearby, as they are also watching the battle. Gyara and Onix are both putting up a good fight. Gyara is using powerful Water-type attacks, but Bruno's Onix is dodging them all by twisting its snake-like body. Then Onix binds Gyara, immobilizing it. Gyara's head can still move, and it bites down onto Onix. Then Onix Digs underground, avoiding all attacks.

"They say that Onix can burrow at speeds up to 50 miles per hour! It could burst out from anywhere! So...okay then! Rest up a little, Gyara."

Red recalls Gyara and sends out Saur, who uses its vines to cover the ground, ready to defend against Onix. The moment Onix comes up, Saur uses all its vines to push Onix back.

"Bravo, Red! But...you know that immense strength is needed for a tug of war with Onix."

Suddenly, Onix's tail comes up from behind Red and smashes into him and Saur, sending them underground. Underground, there are several holes that Onix could come through, so Red is in a dilemma.

"The tunnels go both vertically and horizontally! Careful, Saur!" Red says.

When Onix appears, it starts to charge at Saur. Saur braces itself, and is not hit.

"Time out." Bruno says as they notice some Diglett. "Unless these fellow finish crossing."

Bruno says, "Diglett thrives in the tunnels dug by Onix, and there, in time, become Dugtrio. Dugtrio cultivates the soil, enabling greenery to grow. Pokemon teach us a great deal about the interconnectedness of life. You would do well to heed the lesson, young man."

After making sure they are gone, Bruno suddenly falls to the ground, and Red asks, "Bruno! What's wrong?"

Ash says, "So that is when he is under controlled..."

"That story...is so Bruno! All those wise words about Pokemon and the circle of life...Tee-hee..." Agatha says.

"Who are you?" Red demands, but the two just continue their story, Lorelei says, "But will humans ever listen? Will they ever stop expanding...or trying to make life more convenient for themselves?! Will they ever stop destroying Pokemon's habitats?! How can Onix coexist with housing developments, Red? And if Onix becomes extinct, then won't Diglettt and Dutrio follow?! And then the plants...the trees...?!"

Red is annoyed and he asks, "What's your point?"

"Just this...that maybe it's too hard for humans and Pokemon to coexist! Just a handful of skilled trainers who lived for Pokemon...and the rest of the human race gone...heh...that would be a Pokemon paradise." Lorelei says.

"And the device that can make it come true...is this!" Ash, Alice and Red are surprised to see the Badge Energy Amplifier. Red says, "What is that doing here?"

"Red...the ninth annual Pokemon League Champion...and one of the last two to see the holder of the 8th trainer badge...Giovanni!" Lorelei says, "We could have gone for Ash Ketchum and his girlfriend, but that will be a risk as we know how strong they are. Now tell us! Where is Giovanni? We need that 8th badge...that Earth Badge...for this amplification device! That is the reason we called you here!"

"Giovanni...the Viridian City Gym Leader...and the leader of Team Rocket...that Ash defeated two months ago! They want him...and his Earth Badge...so they can power the Badge Energy Amplifier."

Red notices Bruno and says, "And they did something to Bruno! I want to help him, but they've got me at a disadvantage in this confined space! First I've got to get out...and lure them out!"

Red sends out Aero to fly out, but Lorelei has Jyxn use its hair to trap them. Lorelei says, "Now...tell me where Giovanni is."

"Don't...know! Ash...should have known because...he fought him..." Red says, and Ash mutters, "That Red..."

"Then you're telling me that you don't know the location of either Giovanni or his badge, and only Ash knows as he gets the badge from him? I see your eyes tell me that you're not lying...very well, then. I will tell you our second objective for calling you here." Lorelei says.

"Second objective?" Red asks.

"We knew that you might not be able to give us information about Giovanni. But we thought it might be worth seeing whether you might be good enough to recruit into our ranks! We've been watching both you, Ash, and Alice for two months ago, and your battle with Burno just now...was truly magnificent. Bruno did his job of "Measuring your skull perfectly.""

"Are you telling me...that the letter of challenge with Bruno's name...was just part of your plan?"

"Not a bad brain, either. That could serve us well...we also sent a letter to Ash, but he hasn't replied to anything yet, and you are the first one to come here." Lorelei says.

"If you think I'd join you...you don't know me yet!" Red says as he sends out Gyara, Saur, and Snor. Agatha sends out Gastly, and Bruno, who is still controlled sends out Hitmonlee.

"By the numbers, it's an equal 3 to 3...but it won't work out the way you hope. Too bad, Red. I only ask once. You won't have a chance for a change of heart. You see, a trainer with your ability is dangerous. You'd have been much smarter to join us."

Just then, they do a combination attack of Ice, Fighting, and Ghost powers, which knock out Gyara, Saur, and Snor.

"It's no use, Red. Not one of them can have withstood those attacks. Now...it will be your turn." Jynx is creating an ice doll that is a model of Red.

"W-what is this?" Red asks.

"I'm truly sorry it had to come to this. But as long as you won't join us, it can't be helped." Lorelei puts lipstick '×'s on the ice doll's wrists and ankles, with ice handcuffs appearing on Red in those same places, immobilizing Red's feet and hands. "Argh! C-can't move my feet...my hands..."

"What is going on..." Alice says with horror.

"Oh, that's right. You had one more Pokemon, didn't you, Red?" Lorelei says as she also puts lipstick '×'s on an ice doll of Pika.

"And for good measure, let's envelop this mountain with a mist of illusion. We can't bear to watch you being defeated, Red. Bruno, we're leaving the rest to you."

Agatha's Gastly cloaks the mountain they are on in a mist of illusion. Their work done, Lorelei and Agatha teleport away.

"Bruno! Snap out of it! You're being controlled by them!" Red yells, but Bruno isn't listening. To defend himself from Bruno, Red sends out Pika, whose paws are immediately ice-handcuffed. Red puts his foot on a weak rock, which crumbles under him.

Red manages to hold onto a rock sticking out, and he notices the ice spreading. "Ice Crystals...on my hands and feet...they're spreading...kind of puts all my plans on ice...heh."

He yells at Pika, "Listen, Pika! Run while you still can! Before they freeze you too! Hurry! Their mistake was that they only found your feet! They forgot your tail works like a radar! You'll be able to climb down the mountain even in this fog! Go someplace warm and melt the ice on your paws...then go to Ash and Alice and tell them about this...they're planning to decimate the human race! We can't let them do that!"

Pika starts to run, with Hitmonlee chasing it. Red, happy that one of his Pokémon can be safe, drop to the ground. He says, "That's it...just get to Ash and Alice...somehow! And try to find some way...to make them understand...they can hear your voice, they know what you are talking about... If only there were Trainers like Ash and Alice who could read your thoughts...," and freezes.

After Ash and Alice wake up, Delia says, "What's wrong, you two? You have been sleeping for an hour."

"Sorry, Mew let us see the thoughts of Pika...and we finally knew what happened to Red." Ash says.

"What happened?" Yellow asks, "I mean... what did you see?"

"It is just like what Lance told us about their plan, and how he was frozen by Lorelei." Ash says, and when they spot a Jigglypuff with Green and Bill on it, and they are coming towards them.
