Chapter 5 Dreamyard and Dr. Fennel

"That sure is a great meal." Ash says as she is now having the special spaghetti from the restaurant, and as she is using the napkin to wipe her mouth, Cilan walks towards Ash's table and he says, "Ash, can I talk with you?"

Ash is confused, and she says, "Of course, what is it?"

He suddenly takes out a notebook and a pen, and he asks, "I have a lot of questions to ask you, the way that you manage to overturn the battle is really surprising, how did you manage to think of that?"

Ash is a little nervous, as the gym leader in front of her is giving her a meeting. Ash says, "Well...I was just thinking outside of the box a lot of times, that is what my friends used to tell me."

"The way that you manage to battle is really amazing. I was wondering if I can travel with you so that I can learn more of it from you?" Cilan asks.

"I..." Ash starts to remember that her friend Brock was also a gym leader that traveled with her, and Misty too. She says, "I don't mind having a traveling partner, since traveling alone is quite boring sometimes. But what about your position at the gym?"

Cilan says, "About that, I have decided to ask my brothers to help me with my position. Chili has another Pansage with him, so those who chose Oshawott can still challenge the gym with the rules."

"I see." Ash says. "It is nice to know you."

After shaking hands, they leave the Striaton City Gym together, and they find a woman in a lab coat, together with her Munna, walking towards them.

"You must be Ash, right? Hey there! I'm Fennel. Professor Juniper asked me to give you something. Please follow me!" Dr. Fennel says.

Ash and Cilan are confused as they follow the Doctor, and they go into the house, she says, "You're going to meet all of the Pokémon in the Unova region. Am I right? Oh, the stairs are right here!"

They walk upstairs and Ash asks, "So what is it that you want with us?"

"So like I said, I'm Fennel, and as you can see, I'm a scientist. In fact, the subject I'm researching is Trainers! Professor Juniper is my friend from college. She asked me to help you guys."

"That sounds nice." Ash says. "What is that Pokemon?"

Cilan says, "That is a Munna, it is a Psychic Type Pokemon that eats the dream of Pokemon and humans. Since you are from Kanto, they are similar to a Drowzee."

"Oh." Ash says.

"Speaking of Munna, I'd like to ask you a favor, too! There is a place called the Dreamyard on the outskirts of Striaton City. I'd like some of the Dream Mist that Munna gives off."

"Can't your Munna produce them?" Ash asks in confusion, and Fennel says, "Well, it can. But what we have here is not enough..."

"It's fine, we can help you out." Ash says as they head to the Dreamyard. Cilan says, "You really like to help other people, right?"

"Yeah. I really like the sense of achievement after helping others." Ash says. "But what kind of place is this Dreamyard?"

"It is the overgrown ruins of an abandoned research facility. This used to research Musharna's Dream Mist in the hopes of discovering a cleaner energy source."

"Musharna is the evolution of Munna, right?" Ash asks, and Cilan nods, "However, due to people's evil thoughts and desires surrounding the project, Musharna was corrupted and its Dream Mist turned black. This triggered an energy overload and a subsequent giant explosion that destroyed the whole facility.

When they get there, Ash says, "This place sure is destroyed..."

"I know. But a lot of Pokemon such as Patrat and Purrloin use to live here." Cilan says as he shivers a little, Ash asks, "Are you afraid of Purrloins?"

"I have a fear of them because one of them did something horrible to me. I don't even want to remember it." Cilan says.

"It's fine, you don't need to talk about it if it is uncomfortable..." Ash says.

Just then, they see Bianca and she comes and says, "Hi, Ash! Are you looking for the mysterious Pokémon, too?"

"Bianca! Good to see you again." Ash says. Bianca notices Cilan and says, "Hey, isn't he one of the three Gym Leaders in Striaton City? What is he doing here?"

Ash says, "Well, he becomes my traveling partner after seeing how I battled."

Cilan says, "I remember you are the one that defeated Cress with your Lillipup, right? You did a good job as a beginner."

"Thanks." Bianca says. "I'm just really, really wondering how showing dreams works..."

Just then, they hear a strange sound, and Bianca says, "Hey! Did you hear a sound coming from the other side of that wall? Come on! Let's go see!"

They rush into the place and they find a Munna, she says, "Please follow me."

Then she starts to float away, Bianca yells, "Oh! Wait!"

Just then, two Team Plasma grunts appear and one girl says, "We found you, Munna!"

Another man says, "Come on! Come on! Make some Dream Mist!"

Just then, they start to kick the Munna, Bianca asks, "Huh? Who are you?! What are you doing?"

Ash says, "Yeah! What do you think you are doing to that Munna?"

The two grunts turn around and the man says, "Are you talking about us? We're Team Plasma. We battle day and night to liberate Pokemon from foolish humans!"

"What are we doing?" The female asks, "The Pokemon Munna and Musharna emit a mysterious vapor called Dream Mist, which shows people's dreams. We're going to use that to make people want to release their Pokemon. We're going to use that to make people want to release their Pokemon. We'll show them dreams to manipulate their hearts."

Then the male kicks the Munna again and says, "Come on! Spit out that Dream Mist!"

"But what you are doing is hurting that Munna!" Ash yells. "Stop it!"

"You're kicking a Pokémon to make it give off Dream Mist? That's mean! Why? You're Trainers too, right?" Bianca says.

"That's right. We're Pokemon Trainers, too, but we're fighting for a different reason. Unlike you three, we're fighting for the freedom of Pokemon!" The female says.

"You're not giving Munna freedom if you continue to kick it around." Cilan says.

"And setting Pokemon free means that we win Pokemon battles and take Pokemon by force!" The male adds. "So, on that note, we are going to rescue your Pokemon from you!"

"You're not going to separate Pikachu from me!" Ash yells as the male sends out Patrat. But Pikachu uses his Thunderbolt to knock it out in the end with ease.

"Plasmaaa! Ahh, our beautiful dream..." The male grunt yells. The female mutters, "Were you not taking them seriously because they're kids? One of them is even the Gym Leader! Well, whatever, I'm next."

As she sends out Purrloin, Cilan is taking a step back, and Ash says, "Oh great...Cilan is afraid of Purrloin..."

Bianca says, "Let me battle this one, I can't let you take the glory after all." She uses Tepig to battle against the Purrloin, after a while, Tepig manage to emerge victorious.

"Plasmaaa! This is a nightmare!" The female says after she lost. The male says, "I can't believe we lost! But we have to obtain the Dream Mist!"

As the male kicks Munna again, he says, "Come on! Make with the Dream Mist!"

"Knock it off!" Ash yells as she is about to stop that male grunt.

Just then, they hear a voice, "What are you two doing goofing off?"

They turn around and they see that the person is no other than Ghetsis, the man that Ash encountered in Accumula Town. But then appears another one, and he says, "We, Team Plasma, shall separate Pokemon from foolish people!"

Then the two Ghetsis have now become one as he teleports in front of the two grunts. "If you cannot fulfill your duties..."

"T-this isn't..." The female grunt says. "Ghetsis when he is gathering followers...or Ghetsis when he is trying to control people by tricking them with speeches!"

"Yeah..." The male grunt says. "This is Ghetsis when a plan has failed, and he is about to issue punishment..."

"At any rate, let's hurry and say we're sorry so he forgives us!" The female grunt says as the two of them rush away.

Just then, the Ghetsis disappears, revealing to be a Musharna. The Munna floats to the Musharna and the two seem to be embracing.

"...What was that just now? That person called Ghetsis appeared all over the place, and it wasn't real, right?! ...Could it have been a dream?" Bianca asks.

"And that Pokémon..." Ash says.

Just then, they see Dr. Fennel coming and she says, "I couldn't wait, so I came over! ...Is that Musharna?!"

The Musharna notices Fennel and then it leaves with Munna following. "Did something happen?"

"Well, you see, Munna was here... But Team Plasma and Munna... And Musharna came... And it showed us something like a dream? And then, Team Plasma..." Bianca says.

"I think I followed that... See, Musharna evolves from Munna. So, seeing Munna in trouble, it used its power- making dreams into reality- to save Munna. Which means...wait a second!" Fennel gasps as she rushes towards some liquid like thing.

"Is this Dream Mist?! With this, I can complete my research! You three come to my house later, OK?" Fennel says as she rushes off.

"Phew. How random was that? Ash, Cilan, why don't you go to Fennel's house?" Bianca says.

"What about you?" Ash asks.

" Me? Well, I'm going to go look for the Pokémon we saw just now." Bianca says as she rushes off as well. Cilan says, "This sure is weird."

"I know." Ash says as they go to Dr. Fennel's house, she says, "Ta-da! Thanks to you, I got some Dream Mist, and now I can collect save files of various Trainers! Thank you very much! As a token of my appreciation, I will give you this C-Gear to use!"

"C-Gear?" Ash is confused. "What is that?"

"The C-Gear is a device related to communications, such as Infrared Connection." Dr. Fennel says as Ash opens the device. "You see! The C-Gear was activated, and that screen showed up! If you touch the "?" icon at the bottom-right of the screen, you can read about the C-Gear."

After turning it off, Fennel says, "About Game Sync... I'd like to explain a little more about the system to collect Trainers' save files. Do you have time to learn more?"

"Sure." Ash says.

"Now Game Sync can retrieve memories of sleeping Pokémon using Dream Mist! That's right! We can collect save files of Trainers from all over the world! What's more, we learned that if you use Game Sync to make a Pokémon sleep, it will have dreams. Then, when you wake up that Pokémon, its dream becomes the reality in a space called Entralink in the middle of the Unova region. Isn't Game Sync interesting? If you like, please send your save file. I've summed up the details in the PC, so please check it if you get a chance!"

Then, a girl who seems to be Fennel's sister comes, and she says, "Oh, Trainer! Thank you very much for helping Fennel! This is from me. Please take it. Don't be shy."

Then she gives Ash a Pal Pad. She says, "You can register your friends in your Pal Pad. After you register, you can link with those friends over Wi-Fi Connection to do all kinds of fun things! You can trade Pokémon, challenge your friends to a battle, and so on. Let me give you a quick how-to on registering on friends. You can either input your friend's code directly by using your Pal Pad... Or you can use the IR Connection feature of the C-Gear. Then, you can register your friend!"

"That sounds interesting." Ash says.

Then they leave the place and Cilan says, "So those devices seem useful."

"I know, but I am not sure if I will be using them." Ash says as they leave Striaton City.

Here is a new chapter, and they meet Dr. Fennel and Cilan has officially join Ash. For Cilan's Pokemon, I have been thinking of using the same ones in the anime. I hope you like this chapter.
