Chapter 6: Daughter found
I don't own anything. Resident Evil belongs to Capcom and Tomb Raider belongs to Core Design, Crystal Dynamics, and I think Square Enix. The only thing I own is the changes made to the stories of the Tomb Raider games/comics and Resident Evil games/comics/CG movies, the person that has taken over Kathrine Warren's life, and Rose Warren. This story also will be bloody, violent, and have cursing. It's rated T for Teen.

Jill stepped around behind the counter of the deserted gun shop. When Robert Kendo spun into the open, aiming his shotgun at Jill.
"Don't move!" He yelled only to relax at who it was. "Shit…Jill." He breathed.
Jill relaxed to, her hand leaving her holstered handgun. "Kendo. You're alright." She smiled as she approached.
He grabbed her arm and pushed her gently to the typewriter. "Yeah, well, alright is a stretch." He said as he lowered his shotgun but looked to the doors and windows, looking for someone to have followed Jill or a zombie. "Sorry, I got a little jumpy there." He apologized. "Didn't quite know what to expect." He admitted.
Jill scuffed almost amused. "No shit." She looked from the front to Kendo. "Look, we're using the subway to get people out of town. You in?" She asked him.
He looked to her a bit shocked and unsure. "The subway?" He asked. "Well…" His eyes moved to the open back door of the shop, to the small apartment that was there. "That's good thinking." He nodded slowly as he stared at the closed door, the door that hid something precious to him.
"When we get out there's gonna be a lot to do." Jill told him seeing she was losing him. "We could use a man of your skill set."
He made no reaction or even looked to her. Jill frowned with concern and put a hand to his shoulder. He jolted and looked to Jill, realizing he had spaced out.
"What's wrong?" Jill asked him.
"Nothin'." Kendo shook her off. "Just uh…just bad timing is all." He looked down then at the door as Jill watched him with concern. "Look, um…" He started to walk toward the back. "Don't worry about me. I'm gonna make other arrangements. Ok?" He asked as he passed her and through the door into the open back.
Jill nodded turning around smiling with a smile that did not quite reach her eyes. "You better. You're the best gunsmith around."
He smiled nodding, but his smile seemed stained as hers faded. "Oh no."
"Don't do anything stupid." Jill told him.
He turned around, walking backwards as he pointed at her. "Oh, that's-that's your job, right?" He joked sadly as he turned around with an empty chuckle.
He reached the closed door and sighed for a moment. Happier times flashed through his mind. When he had made the S.T.A.R.S. their guns, when he held his baby girl, put a wedding band on his wife's finger…
"Take care, Jill." He called, the smile gone, just like all those happy times.
He turned the knob and slipped through the door closing it as Jill walked slowly toward the door. She wanted to know why he was so…saddened. She knew it took a lot to effect the old Gunsmith.
"If you're heading to the station, take that service alley out in front of the shop, ok?" He called out, not knowing that Jill had got right up next to the door. "The key's hanging on the wall."
She leaned in close and listened.
"Daddy…" She heard a weak little girl voice call and knew it to be Emma's, but why did she sound so weak?
"Daddy's here, sweetie. Got back to sleep. Rest now." Jill heard Kendo say back and his voice sounded both comforting and broken all at once.
Jill wanted to knock, to tell him to bring his daughter with him as she clearly needed medical attention, but then she thought about it. He would more than likely do one of two things, yell at her or politely turn her down. Whatever happened to little Emma…it was so bad that she sounded weak and was more than likely not long for this world. Jill stepped away from the door with a heavy heart and walked back to the shop for the key.

Rose peeked around the room and saw it was empty. She struggled to kick the grate off. It dented, but she found that it was screwed on. She felt tears roll as she kicked a bit more in a panic before sinking on the floor of the dusty vent. She wanted to go home. She wanted her bed. She wanted to go to school. She was done with this nightmare of running from zombies, monsters from under the bed, and people that wanted to kill them. She wanted Sherry to be safe, thinking her best friend was dead or dying somewhere. She wanted her mom. She wanted her mom to hold her, sing to her, and tuck her into blankets.
She lifted her head as snot and tears pooled on the floor of the vent, mixing with dirt and dust. The S.T.A.R.S. office had to be a safe place. She didn't see a typewriter, but she did see an item box. She sniffled as she hit the grate again. She did not want to be trapped. She felt trapped. She was the only thing that could fit in the vents along with Sherry, but that didn't matter. She wanted out and was having a small tantrum at being trapped.

Kat checked over her ammo and then looked to her bow. She took out the tape and a lighter and started securing it to her bow. She then checked it, making sure she could flick it open and get the flame lit. She was going to need fire arrows at some point. After that, she looked to her cross bow with a yawn. She shook herself. She needed more sleep, even on Yamatai she got more sleep when she was knocked out and she had been there for four days. She shook herself then froze as her radio beeped.
"Let's try this again…" Irons' voice hissed sounding annoyed. "Kathrine? Hello…"
Kat pulled her radio from her belt and looked at it worriedly.
"I know you have the Birkin Brat with you…" His voice low and cold. "I went to her house. She was supposed to come to the station, like you and your brat. I went to look for her and she was gone, along with that locket that her bitch mother gave her."
Kat felt angry at what he called her girls. 'I want to yell at him, but I can't reveal which channel I'm on to him. Or he'll taunt me and the others even more.'
"So, I want you to come to the station…No the orphanage. Yes. You and the brats will be safe there…" Irons said then paused. "Fine, enough of the charade. I want my prize in this damned city. That little brat is in the way of my prize, my hunt. And that Birkin brat is the only way I can get to her mother so I can have my revenge on their family." He snarled. "This was my city, Kathrine. Everything in it was mine. If I can't have any of it…then it can all burn."
Kat shook her head.
"But before that, I need you, Kathrine." Irons said. "I need to see you, to feel your skin. I've never felt your neck or legs before…" He said darkly as Kat felt unsettled. "Your scars upset me, but I can fix them when you're mine…it's not hard to do that. As long as I have flesh of the same color and texture." Kat felt sick, covering her mouth. "That child of yours will work just fine."
Kat almost pushed the talk button then, about to yell at him. 'Don't touch my fucking daughter!' or 'Stay the hell away from her, you corrupt bastard!' being the things that came to mind. She was able to hold back as she panted through her nose in anger and fear.
"Not talking?" Asked Irons as Kat looked to the door. "Shit…you're not on this one, are you? With that temper you've got and the tragedy you're survived, you would've reacted to this…" Then a growl of frustration before the radio stopped.
"Irons, you son of bitch."
Kat startled at hearing Jill's angered voice.
"Jill Valentine." Irons said sounding disappointed. "I thought that Umbrella's newest monster would've taken care of you."
"I'm tough to kill, Irons." Jill hissed. "Stop trying to find Kathrine. You won't find her. You won't find her girls." She informed sternly. "If you somehow do and hurt them I'll hurt you right back."
Irons laughed. "And what are you going to do? You have a monster tracking you. You wouldn't be able to save them."
"Then I'll avenge them. Besides. You won't be able to kill Kathrine. You have no idea what she's capable of." Jill informed darkly. "Just like me."
Irons chuckled in a condescending way. "We'll see."
He then switched channels to try to find Kat. Kat glared at the radio as if it was him. She partly wanted to find him and kick his ass for insulting her, find him and kill him for threating her and her girls, and partly wanted to hold it all back and let him get all disappointed when he never found her. Kat leaned on the wall and then kicked it once.
She then pushed the talk button "Jill? Are you still there? Carlos, can you hear this too?"
"Yeah." Came a concerned voice from Carlos.
"Are you okay, Kat?" Jill asked.
"Yeah, just a mix of negative emotions right now." Kat informed. "Did either of you two see Irons out there? At all?" She asked thinking about her and her girl's movements. How many times had they just missed running into the corrupt chief? Had they been seen at all by him?
"No, I haven't." Jill informed. "But I think I'm starting to get why you wanted to kill him."
"Irons, as in the police chief? I haven't either." Carlos said.
"I don't know what to do about him anymore." Kat stopped a moment. "He's after me, Sherry, and Rose. He wants Rose and me for his stick hobby. He wants Sherry as bait for her mother."
"Kat, breath. You've kept a clear head this long." Jill reminded. "You can do this. Find Sherry and Rose, buckle down for your plan." She said hating that she knew Kat would still refuse the train ride.
"What dose Irons…never mind. You've been strong, Wonder-Mom." Carlos stated. "From what I've heard from Jill, you've survived a lot. And have kept your kids safe. You can do it again." He bit his lip, he didn't want to condone what he was about to, but it might put her at ease. "If he comes at you or your kids…don't hesitate."
Jill hated to agree but she couldn't think of anything else. "Carlos is right. But whatever you do, don't go looking for him."
Kat nodded, calming down. She took a deep breath and let it out. "You're both right…" She opened her eyes glaring at the door as if it was Irons. "He can't scare me anymore. I'm just mad." She looked to her handgun at her waist. "I've got to go."
"Keep us up—Shit!" Jill's response cut off suddenly.
Kat's eyes widened. "Carlos, go find Jill. Now!"
"I'm on it!" Carlos yelled and he was out.
Kat then turned the channel back to three. "Rose?" She asked. "Sweetie, I need you to tell me where you are."
She heard a sniffle. "Ok-okay…The S.T.A.R.S. office…I-I can't get the vent open…"
Kat nodded. She didn't need a map to know where it was. "Okay. I'm on my way up. Don't move, don't make too much noise. Stay right where you are."
"Okay…Hurry please." Rose whimpered.
Country: America, State: Pennsylvania, City: Raccoon City, Place: Downtown, Area: Large Yard, Month: September, Day: Monday 28th, Year: 1998, Time: 10:19 PM…
Jill ducked to the side as the ruined burning flamethrower hit the wall. She looked from it to behind her as her hand slipped the radio to her belt. There the Nemesis hit the ground, on fire but unbothered. He stood tall, lifted a hand, and dropped the large case he carried. The clamps on one side snapped open but then it seemed like the lip was shot off from the inside edges. The Nemesis then bent and grabbed the laser-guided rocket launcher from the case. He rested it on his shoulder and worked the yellow dot toward Jill.
Jill's eyes were wide as she backed up then turned and ran. The moment the laser hit Jill it turned red. Seeing the color, she dodged to the right and kept running as a car outside the alley she entered blow up from a rocket. She ducked to the left as another rocket hit a wall making it crumble. She turned a corner in the alleyway and dodged the exploding dumpster. She continued running.
At the end, she saw a zombie turn around. It was too close to duck. She lifted her handgun and pulled the trigger at its head. Its head rocketed back and exploded from the bullet as Jill ducked around the corner. As if to add insult to injury for that zombie, its falling body was obliterated by the rocket that had Jill ducked.
She ran down the alley and out passed some fences. Just as she turned a familiar corner, she saw a wall with a Nemesis sized hole, the police car she just passed exploded up into the air with fire. She yelped and spun around to look. It landed back on the ground on the back bumper it then started to fall sideways toward Jill. She dove and rolled to the right and on her back. The car landed on its side roughly and a window broke.
Jill panted as she turned onto her hands and knees, readying to stand and continue running. But her radio beeped. She grabbed it and held it to her ear.
"Jill, you ok? You cut off before." Carlos yelled sounding like he was running.
"Carlos, that monster's on my ass again!" She yelled to him and looked back as she saw how cut and beat up she looked.
"Are you shitting me?" Carlos asked horrified with that information. "I thought you killed it!"
She lifted her head then and saw ahead of her the Nemesis land on top of a car, shattering the windows. "Me too!" She yelled before snapping the radio back to her belt and running forward.
She ducked and dodged four rockets in a row as she ran toward a blockade. Then she yelped as a rocket hit in front of her, stopping her run as she lifted her arms, shielding herself from the flames. She turned back to see the Nemesis point the laser at her then pull the trigger. She turned to run again as the rocket fired and flew. It hit the ground just behind her feet. The shock wave sent Jill flying over the blockage yelling. She hit the ground on the other side and rolled three times before stopping on her back, feeling old cuts and scrapes burn.
She panted for a few moments, dazed. Then she rolled onto her side and forced herself to her feet. She stumbled and leaned on a van. Her back hurt like hell. She had her grenade launcher and shotgun there and they had dug into her back when she landed. That all just reminded her that after all this shit was behind her, she was going to be a walking bruise.
"STTTTAAAARRRRSSS!"
She jolted and looked back. Jill then looked to the blockage before her, seeing it was a bunch of burning flaming debris. She couldn't cross. Then she saw some scaffolding on the building next to her. She gritted her teeth and pushed off the van and, holding her side with one hand as her ribs hurt like hell, she jogged over and started up the steps and down a path. She could see she was close to the substation. She knew this by the big head on top of Toy Uncle. She reached the ladder at the end and started to climb it, feeling better about running now. She was at the top then jumped off onto a roof. She rested then pulled her radio to her lips as she heard it beeping.
"Jill, you there?" Carlos asked. "I think I know how to slow that fucker down." He said as Jill frowned. "Head back toward the station!"
"And lead him right to you?" She asked uncertainly as she walked down some steps to a walkway over the alleys and toward the plaza.
"It's ok!" Carlos assured. "Trust me!"
Jill put her radio to her belt. 'God I hope you've got a plan.' She thought as she turned away from the fires and down steps toward Jim's Crabs restaurant and the plaza.
She turned to the plaza stairs and jogged up them, pausing near the top and looking up at the head on Toy Uncle. Her mind remembering what she read in the small apartment house before Nemesis attacker her. About how unstable that head was up there. Held in place with only a few screws and on windy days it swayed. She started to jog only to hear something swizzing. Her eyes widened at a rocket flying at the head, hitting the base and exploding.
The head remained intact, just scorched. It launched up into the air, spun once then twice as it came back down at an angle. It hit the ground in front of Jill making her yelp and stumble as the ground shook from its impact. Then it was rolling at her. Her eyes widened again as she flashed back to the mansion, the underground with the boulders right out of Indiana Johns.
"This is insane!" She yelled before turning and running down the stairs.
She took the steps three at a time, jumping more than running as the giant head rolled down the stairs, crushing the plant pots and anything in its path. She got to the ground, tucked, and rolled to the right, by the boutique that backed up from the restaurant and donut shop. She watched the head skid to a stop at the bottom and hit the donut shop's front. She ran out then and up the stairs. Halfway up them she jolted as the Nemesis landed on the ground behind her by the head.
"STTTTTTAAAAARRRRSSS!"
She ducked two more rockets as she turned and to the white gate to the alley that would lead her right to the substation. Just as she was reaching to push it open, the gate shook as she backed up. The Nemesis dropped from the gate and swung his rocket launcher at her. Barley dodging it, she stumbled back. Ducking to the right and rolling as two rockets fired at her. She just managed to dodge both.
'How many does he have? He has to run out eventually, right?' She thought as she ran at the gate and pushed through it as she ran. She ran down the alley and turned a corner to see Carlos at the other end.
"Jill!" He yelled waving her over. "This way!"
She did not think twice and ran after him. They turned right and ran at the Stagla gas station. Carlos was several paces ahead of her and turned to the left. Jill saw red laser in her peripheral and tried to duck only for the rocket to hit behind her. The shock wave throwing her forward again. She looked back as an orange laser landed on her shoulder before turning red. She saw the big finger close on the trigger and jumped to her feet, running again.
She turned to the left and saw Carlos waving at her to hurry up. The Nemesis rounded the corner, but then triggered a bomb by its feet. The bomb sent him flying and he rammed into the truck to the right. Jill stopped a moment and looked back seeing the creature was on its knees. Carlos was at her side and grabbed her arm.
"Hey, are you okay?" He asked her as he looked to the Nemesis.
Jill looked to him then back at the creature. It lifted its head and almost seemed to glare at them. It stood up making Carlos push Jill aside.
"Go…GO!" He yelled and pulled his assault rifle and took aim.
He pulled the trigger and held it down; the bullets ripping through the air and at the Nemesis, but it did not seem to slow down the beast. Jill turned back and couldn't leave him.
"C'mon! Forget about him!" She yelled as she turned and ran to the door Carlos had indicated before.
Carlos growled in anger at how he hadn't done a damn thing to it. He then stopped shooting and ran with Jill. Stopping just short of the door and turning, he looked at where the Nemesis was. Jill hit the button to close the shutter door and looked to Carlos as it slowly lowered. The man took aim at a tanker behind the monster and kneeled before shooting.
The bullets hit home, ripping into the tanker. Blue and orange fire ripped out from the tanker. Carlos dropped to his side, rolled back, and under the shutter as it closed, blocking the fiery explosion and the Nemesis. A small shockwave managed to slip through as the shutter closed. This shockwave knocked Carlos onto his side and staggered Jill. She helped him to his feet, and they looked to the indented shutter.
"C'mon." Carlos said as he scooped up his rifle. "Let's get out of here."

Kat slipped through the door panting. She had held her breath as she passed a licker. She then looked round the Office. She spotted the vent next to Chris's desk. It looked dented. She clipped her pistol crossbow to her belt and rushed over to the vent.
"Rose, are you there, sweetie?" Kat asked trying to peer through the grate's gaps.
Tiny pale fingers slipped through a gap. "Mommy, please get me out of here." Rose's small voice whimpered.
"Okay, hang on, sweetie." Kat looked to the screws.
She could take out an arrow and undo them or her knife. She didn't want to make her daughter wait any more then she already did. She pulled out her climbing axe and got up on top of Chris's desk.
"Sweetie, I want you to back up as much as you can okay?" Kat asked her.
"O-okay." Rose whimpered as her fingers left the grate and she backed up into the vent as much as she could.
Kat reared her arm back gripping her axe. She then brought the axe down on the vent cover, bending the vent and grate around the point with a grunt. She then started to wrench it back and forth, pulling and tugging, up and down and side to side. With a metallic whine and creek, the vent grate cover popped off the screws and flew across the room, skittering on the floor before wobbling on the bent part and falling still. Kat froze a moment listening before sighing and holstering her axe and peering into the vent.
"Rose, it's okay." Kat said gently.
Rose scrambled out and Kat caught her before she fell. Rose was covered in cobwebs and dust and had a few irritated scratches, but other than that did not look worse for wear. Kat held her daughter close, feeling her shaking and crying. Her small arms wrapped around her neck, almost choking Kat with how tightly Rose held on. Kat ran her fingers over her daughter's braided hair and head lightly shushing her and whispering that she was okay and safe.
Kat climbed off the desk and rubbed Rose's back, under her pack as she turned around. "Okay, I'm going to clean you up a bit. At least your cuts if I can." Kat set Rose down on Chris's desk. "Let go, sweetie."
Rose sniffled and sneezed before nodding. Her small hands let go as Kat did and then helped her take her pack off. Kat opened it and found that there was some water left in the second bottle. She unscrewed the top and grabbed up the bottle and pushed up Rose's sleeves and pants legs then carefully poured the water on the scratches, cleaning them as best she could. She took out Roses stuffy and handed it to her to hold as she pulled out her daughter's first aid kit and got to work putting band-aids on her.
"Can you tell me what happened? Where's Sherry?" Kat asked her again now that they were in person and pulled her sleeves over her arms and pant legs over her legs.
"We were in…A boiler room I think." Rose began. "And Sherry got out of the vent first. We heard something. I didn't see it, but she did. Told me to stay in the vents. She then took off and had it chased her." Rose shook a bit. "It said her name, mommy. And it was big. I saw its legs. And it had a messed-up arm."
Kat bit her lip as she handed Rose her snacks. "Eat these. It'll be okay." She told her as Rose took them with her small shaky hands. "We'll find Sherry and we'll be safe." She said.
"Do you know what chased Sherry?" Rose asked as she ripped open her packet of shark bites.
Kat nodded swallowing. "Yes. Her father." She told Rose, refusing to lie to her.
Rose's eyes widened as she chewed her sweets. "Will-will she be okay?"
"From what I remember and what's in my journal, yes. For a while anyway." Kat assured as Rose's radio beeped.
"Rose? Are you there?" Came Sherry's voice.
Kat's eyes widened as she quickly switched her radio to three. "Sherry?"
"Kat? Did you find Rose?" Sherry asked as Rose pulled her radio.
"Yeah. I have. Sherry, where did you find a radio?" Kat asked her worriedly.
Sherry's voice shook a bit with the next sentence. "I-I found a-a dead cop. I took it from his belt."
Kat bit her lip as she leaned on the desk. "I'm so sorry, sweetie. Tell me where you are. I can come get you."
"N-no…" Sherry whispered. "He's still after me. And…he killed a cop trying to get to me." She almost whimpered. "I don't want you or Rose hurt. Stay away."
"Sherry, I can keep you safe, just tell me where you are." Kat told her but got no response. "Sherry? Sherry?" Kat called and shook her head.
"Sherry, please. Mom wants to help you. Don't be Supergirl, be you and tell us where you are, sis!" Rose begged into her radio.
Kat would have smiled at Rose's nickname 'sis' for Sherry, but with Sherry hiding somewhere below them now wasn't the time. "Sherry, come on, please."
Nothing. No response.
Country: America, State: Pennsylvania, City: Raccoon City, Place: Redstone Street Station, Area: Platform South, Month: September, Day: Monday 28th, Year: 1998, Time: 10:31 PM…
Jill got to the bottom landing of the stairs to see Mikhail speaking with Tyrell by some military grade boxes. They turned around as she and Carlos came up to them. Mikhail smiled at Jill.
"Good work." Mikhail said. "You're reputation is well deserved. Get inside the subway is about to leave." He directed.
Jill nodded with a smile then turn to the train as Mikhail turned to Carlos and Tyrell.
"Carlos, Tyrell." He said getting their attention. "You have your orders. You need to go back into the city and find Nathaniel Bard." He reminded them for the third time, to make sure the two remembered.
Jill frowned and paused at the door to the train car to look back at the three U.B.C.S. soldiers. "This isn't the only ride out of town, right?" She asked worried for Carlos and Tyrell.
They all turned to look at her.
"Do not worry." Mikhail assured. "Once the civilians are safe, the train will be back."
"It's alright, you go on ahead." Carlos smiled at her. "I'm not gonna die on you, and leave you in a cold, cruel, Carlos-less world." He joked.
Jill snorted smiling. "Ok." She nodded and stepped onto the train.
Mikhail turned to Carlos. "You need to find this scientist. His vaccine could save us all." He informed as Jill watched them through the windows of the practically empty car.
Jill turned at the sound of very sarcastic clapping. Sitting there was Nicholai smirking at her.
"You see?" He asked as he lowered his hands. "You're learning." He stated as Jill glared at him. "The only life that matters is your own."
Jill rolled her eyes. Mikhail nodded to Tyrell and Carlos.
"Good luck. Let's go!" He then joined Jill and Nicholai on board.
Once he was in, the doors closed, and the train started moving. Jill looked out the window to Carlos. Carlos watched her and the train leave. Both apprehensive.
