"Well?"
Midoriya almost jumped out of his seat and confronted the sudden whisper from behind him. Kaminari's smirk was only a few inches away from his face. He eased himself back, keeping him out of his personal space.
"Well, what?"
Kaminari quick glanced at something on the other side of the classroom, and he followed his gaze. Midoriya was so deep in his studies, he didn't realize what his classmate was getting at.
Until he saw her.
Uraraka was on the other side of the classroom, hanging out with the rest of the girls. He couldn't tell what they were talking about, but they seemed pretty quiet about it.
Since classes were done for the day, everyone was getting ready to head over to Gym Gamma. Mr. Aizawa told them to head over there for some special training. He even said that they won't be needing their hero costumes.
"Uraraka," Kaminari told him, "Aren't you going to ask her? It's already been two days."
Midoriya stole a quick glimpse of her and their eyes met unintentionally. For a long second, they just stared at each other as if nothing else was going on around them. Simultaneously, they blushed and snapped themselves out of it.
"I... I can't do it. Not in front of everyone," Midoriya whispered as he hid his blemished face from the whole class, "Besides, you guys told me I should ask her when it's just the two of us. Even Iida is trying to come up with excuses to leave us alone to talk." He couldn't help but chuckle a little at Iida's dedication.
As Midoriya collected his things from his desk, Kirishima walked up to them with a big grin on his face.
"Someone's in a good mood," Kaminari smiled back, "Any particular reason?"
"I may have asked Ashido to the Winter Dance during lunch," Kirishima told them as he rubbed the back of his head, "She said, yes. I'm pretty sure the whole school knows all about it. It's kind of embarrassing..."
"Congrats, dude!" Kaminari commented with a pat on the back as they followed everyone else out of the classroom, "You're probably the luckiest guy in U.A., don't be embarrassed. I heard a lot of guys had their eyes on her. Even a couple from Class 1-B."
As they all exited the room, Midoriya kept his focus on Uraraka in the distance while Kirishima and Kaminari continued their conversation.
The sunlight coming in from the windows gently streamed across her beautiful features as they headed out of the school building. His chest ached so much that he inconspicuously gripped onto his jacket. Even though she wasn't hanging out with him and Iida like usual, he was fully content watching her smile and laugh.
He smiled back.
"What about you Midoriya?" Kirishima asked, snapping him out of his trance.
"Huh?"
"You asked Uraraka to the dance, right?"
"Um, well..."
"You better ask her before it's too late," Mineta intervened as they headed down to the first floor, "I heard a couple of guys were thinking about asking her. You could say they were better looking too."
Better looking... guys?!
"Mineta!" Iida cried, stepping in as Class Rep. and as a friend, "That's no way to talk to your classmate!"
"Hey, I'm just pointing out the facts. If he wants to ask her, he better do it sooner rather than later."
"I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with Mineta," Kaminari told Midoriya while the little pervert nodded with pride, "It's been two days. Someone could've already asked her."
Images of Uraraka with a tall, dark and handsome guy having an unforgettable time at the Winter Dance popped into his head without permission. Just thinking about it made him sick to his stomach. Her smile not for him, but for someone else.
The one person that has been there for him since he entered U.A. The one who inspired him to pick his hero name. To not let words define who he is.
His first real friend.
Something had to be done about it and fast.
They finally made it out of the school building and headed over to Gym Gamma. Just as they were instructed, none of them wore their hero costumes. School uniforms only.
Midoriya's friends kept giving him all sorts of advice along the way. Some good, some bad and some strange, especially coming from Mineta.
Sometimes Midoriya questioned if he even knew what the hell he was talking about. He was unexpectedly pressured into confessing that every girl he's asked turned him down. Even Asui said no and surprisingly lied to him. She told him her and Tokoyami were going together, which turned into her officially asking him to the dance.
They made it to Gym Gamma and Iida took the lead, opening the huge, heavy doors.
Mr. Aizawa, Midnight and AllMight were inside, waiting for everyone to arrive. The fact that their teacher had his sleeping bag told them that they were in for a treat today.
"Alright, class. I'm going to let these two take care of this. I'm not one to get involved in these sorts of things," Mr. Aizawa told them as he settled into his sleeping bag.
"Mr. Aizawa!" Iida announced in Class Rep. mode, "We would all like to know why we're here, sir!"
"You're here because the Winter Dance is right around the corner!" Midnight responded as their sensei laid against a wall on the other side of the gigantic room and fell asleep instantly.
"Why is he even here?" The whole class said in unison.
"Class 1-B was already here yesterday for preparation, so now it's Class 1-A's turn to move those bodies!" Midnight announced as she danced in a provocative manner.
The entire class looked about ready to bolt out of the gym, except for Mineta, who was enjoying what he was watching. Maybe a little too much.
"That's right. You're going to be preparing for the Winter Dance by shaking what your mama gave ya!"
"What?!"
"You may think this is a normal dance, but there's a lot more to it." Midnight gave them a flirty wink, making everyone cringe. Mineta was close to drooling.
"All of you will have to pick two students that will represent Class 1-A to perform a dance of your choice. Quirks are allowed as long as no one gets hurt," AllMight explained.
"Yeah yeah, what do we get if we win?" Bakugo interrupted.
"There are no winners in this," AllMight told him as Bakugo tuned out of the conversation, "All of the first year students in every class are doing this. It's a part of the Winter Dance and always has been. Not everything is about competitions or being number one. This is about inspiring people through dance and music. It will be a chance to show what you're capable of without the means of fighting. It's a chance to be a beacon of light and hope."
Midoriya was so moved that he was almost tempted to volunteer as one of the dancers.
Almost.
Even though he was a part of the school festival, it didn't help his stage fright in the long run. There was no way he was going to be a part of this.
Maybe Ashido and Kirishima--
"I vote for Uraraka and Midoriya to represent Class 1-A!" Ashido cried with her arm high up in the air.
In a split second, the whole class agreed before the two secret love birds could do anything about it.
I added this performance idea at the last minute. I had other ideas to push them closer together, but I just thought this was more rewarding. I hope you guys like the story so far!
I'm excited to see where it's heading.
More to come soon!:)
