Uraraka's heart felt like it stopped working for a good, long minute. She had never been so mortified in her entire life, and she's fought some pretty twisted villains.
All eyes were on her and Midoriya. Their teachers were a bit thrown off by Ashido's sudden outburst. It even woke up Mr. Aizawa, but not enough to climb out of his sleeping bag.
In the corner of her eye, Midoriya looked like he had just seen a ghost.
"Since everyone agrees, Ochaco Uraraka, Izuku Midoriya, you two will have to come up with a dazzling performance to represent Class 1-A!" Midnight announced as she swung her hips, "How riveting!"
"You two will perform great together," AllMight said with a shining smile.
"H-Hold on a minute," Midoriya spoke up, surprising Uraraka, "I'm not a dancer... I'd just embarrass our class..."
A similar feeling came over her.
"Ashido and Kirishima would be a better fit to do this," Uraraka added onto his argument, "She actually knows how to dance."
"Which is why I'll help you guys out," Ashido intervened as she wrapped her arms around Midoriya and Uraraka's shoulders.
Ashido's bright grin told her everything she was thinking, and Uraraka glared back.
"We'll all help them up out. Right, guys?"
She winked at her classmates, obviously letting Uraraka spot it a mile away.
"Yeah!" Class 1-A cheered, except Bakugo who did not want any part of this.
Uraraka looked over at AllMight, Midnight and half asleep Mr. Aizawa to possibly reconsider.
"You two are outvoted," Mr. Aizawa told them as he sat up in his sleeping bag, "I say we move on and start getting ready for your performance."
I can't believe this is happening!!
Before Uraraka could stop herself, her quirk accidentally activated. It took her a moment to notice and lost her balance. As she tried to grab onto something in the air, Midoriya's hand gripped onto hers.
"I've got you," Midoriya reassured her.
Unfortunately, that made it worse, and he began to hover off the floor.
This is the worst week ever!!
"Uraraka, use your quirk to release us. I'll catch you, I promise."
She quickly turned it off before she could process that sentence. A green glow was all she could see as two strong but gentle arms caught her just in time.
The moment she opened her eyes, they automatically focused onto Midoriya. The energy coming off of him somehow looked softer and calmer than usual.
He's so handsome up close...
His quirk slowly dimmed as he landed her safely onto the floor.
"Th-Thank you, Deku," Uraraka muttered and separated herself from his grasp. She made sure he didn't notice her flustered face.
Get it together, Ochaco. You're about to practice dancing with your best friend, no big deal.
"I-I saw her--"
Luckily, Mineta got smacked in the face by Asui's tongue before he was able to get all the words out.
"Alright," Ashido called out to grab everyone's attention and shutting Mineta up, "We need to come up with a dance style and song. Anyone have any ideas?"
"Jazz could be fun."
"Salsa!"
"Maybe something classy..."
"What about Hip Hop?"
"Do the Tango!"
Every suggestion made Uraraka's rosy cheeks redder and redder. Millions of images of the two of them in sparkly, fancy attire couldn't help but enter her crazy mind. Imagining the different dance moves were almost too much for her to handle.
"What do you think would be easiest to teach them, Ashido?" Iida asked once they ran out of ideas.
"Well..." Ashido said as her mind focused on the best solution, "Easiest is hard to say, especially since they don't really know how to dance... Maybe the Waltz... specifically a slow one so it's easier to follow and manage."
"Waltz?" Uraraka and Midoriya said unintentionally in sync.
Memories of her first time teaming up with Midoriya played out in her head over and over again.
Everything was so much easier back then.
Even though her friends volunteered the two of them for obvious reasons, she couldn't waste this opportunity. It was the perfect chance for her to ask him to the dance.
Everything was falling into place.
I have to confront this as if it were hero training. Just like our first hero mission. It's the only way.
"You think you can teach us in time for the Dance?" Uraraka asked her.
Ashido looked at both of them one by one for a little too long and gave them two big thumbs up. Her smile could light up the whole room.
"You betcha!"
"Then we'll do it," Midoriya joined in with more confidence, "We won't let you guys down."
Uraraka could tell he was still a little nervous. His nervous energy was never very subtle, but it was inspiring to see him push passed it and come out on top. Whether it was for him or someone else.
She nodded in agreement with a lot of confidence behind it.
"Now then, we need to pick a song..." Ashido said as she trailed off and got back on right away, "Jirou, do you know any good music or popular songs that might work?"
It caught Jirou a bit off guard, but she composed herself pretty quickly.
"I'm not sure. I don't really listen to a lot of music like that..."
"Are you sure?" Kaminari spoke up, "I could've sworn you were listening to something like that yester--"
Her earphone jack darted towards his face, but stopped only an inch away. A subtle blush formed under her eyes, but soon relaxed her unique quirk.
"Fine... It's not a very popular song, but it has a nice orchestra," Jirou explained, spilling out her secret tastes and muttered the rest in embarrassment, "It's... kinda romantic and uplifting, but also tragic."
Romantic?!
After a few seconds of looking for the song on her phone, Jirou played it for the whole class. Uraraka could already picture everything in her head...
And she fell for it.
The orchestra helped her imagine what she'd be doing, along with Midoriya by her side. Her quirk fit so well for the uplifting parts of the music. And his would add a nice flare to their dance moves.
It was perfect.
While listening to the lyrics, she kept glancing over at Midoriya every few seconds. She wondered if he had similar romantic thoughts like her as each line played out beautifully.
She could only hope.
"What do you think?" Jirou asked after the music played the last couple notes.
"I... I think this is the one," Uraraka mumbled only to him after a few seconds of contemplating.
"I agree. I think... I think it could work," Midoriya muttered back, "With your zero gravity quirk and mine, we could pull it off with some unique moves. You shouldn't use it too much because you might get sick, especially since we'll be spinning and twirling around a lot. If we pace it out just right, we'll be able to inspire a lot of--"
"So... is that a yes?" Ashido interrupted his muttering state of mind.
Uraraka and Midoriya's eyes lit up with passion and gave their classmates the go ahead to continue.
"Great! Yaoyorozu, I need you to create some speakers! Jirou, I need you to help her hook them up to your phone! Everyone else, you can practice if you want, just don't get in the way!"
The next thing Uraraka and Midoriya knew, they were be dragged by their dance teacher to the center of the gym.
I do kind of wish Ashido wouldn't make such a big deal out of this.
Sorry for deleting this chapter earlier. I wanted to check on a couple things.
These chapters are pretty short, I'll try to make them longer. I like writing Uraraka's inner thoughts and feelings, it's interesting.
The song is an actual one I have in mind. I don't know if I'll actually name it, or put it in the story. Maybe the chapter title.
More to come soon! :)
