Millions of thoughts ran through Midoriya's mind as Ashido ran between them and the music set up to make sure everything was ready. Some were about dancing and quirk usage.
And some were about Uraraka herself.
She seemed more confident once they picked a dance style for their performance. It got him to relax a bit.
He was just hoping he wouldn't accidentally slip up and mutter something embarrassing. It was a little awkward for him, standing and waiting in the middle of Gym Gamma with his soon to be dance partner.
As soon as he took a deep breath in and out, Ashido practically teleported right in front of him. He almost jumped out of his skin and lost his composure all too soon.
"Let's get started!"
Several minutes passed and Ashido got right down to business. Midoriya was a bit intimidated by her determination and passion. They let the song play over and over again as she explained what they'll be doing.
"So... right at the start of the dance, you two will be standing back to back in the center of the dance floor," Ashido explained while she dragged Midoriya and Uraraka into their right positions.
Who knew she loved dancing this much?
Their dance teacher stared at them for a good amount of time as if she were looking for something in particular.
"Something's missing...Ah Ha!"
Before either of them could react, Midoriya and Uraraka were suddenly holding hands.
"Ashido!" They cried in unison, then Uraraka took over, "Warn us before you do that! I could accidentally make him float again!"
"Oh stop being such babies. If you guys can't deal with holding hands, then you'll never be able to perform. You two need to suck it up and just go for it."
Aren't you the one who volunteered us in the first place?
Nonetheless, she was right. He needed to shift his mind set and see it in a different light.
Like hero training! Yeah... think of it as everyday hero training! I can do that!
His senses soon focused on her hands as she unknowingly and subtly rubbed her fingers against his. He didn't expect her hands to be as soft as they were. He never really held hands with a girl like this before.
"I made these gloves," Yaoyorozu said with cream colored gloves in her hand, "You can use these so you don't accidentally send him flying."
Uraraka's hands let go of his and grabbed the gloves a bit too quickly. After a moment of putting them on, they held hands once more. A part of Midoriya was disappointed and longed for her touch, even if he didn't realize it.
"Alrighty, let's keep going!"
Time seemed to be going by at a slow pace while Ashido went through the motions of the music. It was a bit awkward to have Uraraka this close to him, especially when he placed his hand on her hip. Midoriya had never done anything like this before in his entire life. But once they started following Ashido's dance steps and instructions, those thoughts disappeared.
Uraraka was surprisingly doing pretty well, considering they were thrown into this out of no where. His dancing skills on the other hand were a bit stiff. Ashido kept reminding him to relax, and every now and then he would accidentally step on Uraraka's foot. Every time he apologized, Uraraka brushed it off.
Some of his classmates gathered up the courage to practice dancing with a partner. Others were either shy or wanted nothing to do with any of this. And then there was Mineta, whom everyone avoided.
Kirishima looked like he wanted to ask Ashido, but he knew she was busy teaching them. Asui was somehow able to get Tokoyami to dance with her, even if he wasn't the best at it. A few minutes later, Midoriya noticed that Kaminari was trying to ask Jirou, but she looked like she didn't know what to do with herself. After an awkward interaction, she eventually turned him down and went back to helping Yaoyorozu with the music.
The sight of a few of his classmates dancing with each other helped him regain his confidence, and was soon able to get the hang of it. After several trips and stumbles, every step and motion started to click into place.
Using his quirk, he picked Uraraka up with ease whenever Ashido called for it, and hers complimented the dance so perfectly. The hardest dance moves to perfect were in the air. They kept slipping out of each other's grip, and being weightless made it difficult to traverse.
After lot of twirling and floating, Uraraka looked like she was about to hurl. Ashido decided to call it a night and continue tomorrow after classes.
"Ahh, that feels so much better..." Midoriya muttered to himself as he relaxed onto the couch with semi damp hair and cozy pajamas.
Every muscle in his body ached so much that a nice, hot shower was the only way to cure it. He could fall asleep right then and there.
That sounds really good right now...
"Hey, Midoriya!"
The sudden voice jolted him awake and found Ashido, along with some of his classmates settle in the couches across from him. He wiped a tiny bit of drool off his cheek before anyone noticed. Drowsiness took hold, but fought through it as much as he could.
"Dude, you look exhausted," Kaminari commented as he sat next to him.
"Are you sure they'll be ready in time, Ashido? They only have three days left to practice," Kirishima asked, standing a bit closer to her than normal.
"Uraraka's got the hang of it pretty quickly, but Midoriya is still a bit stiff here and there," Ashido explained, "You two need more time anyway for the big finish!"
"Big finish?" Midoriya and his friends said in unison. Confusion was written all over their faces.
"Do you know anything about this, Jirou?" Yaoyorozu asked.
"No idea. I only suggested the song," Jirou responded while she relaxed on the couch across from Midoriya and away from Kaminari.
"And now I'm goddamn sick of it," Bakugo said as he walked by the conversation with his hands in his pockets, "Deku and Uraraka may be okay with following your damn ideas, but not me. You can count me out of this crap you call a performance."
"He's just cranky because he can't get a date for the Winter Dance," Kaminari whispered to Midoriya, even though Bakugo was already out of earshot.
Midoriya knew Kaminari was trying to lighten up the mood, but the negative feedback still got through to him. Ashido didn't seem to be bothered by his irrational behavior. In fact, she looked more motivated than ever to make it the best performance this school's ever seen.
Midoriya was quite the opposite and decided to settle in before too many thoughts overwhelmed his tired brain.
"Has anyone seen Uraraka?"
"She went to bed after she took a shower," Yaoyorozu told him, "I guess her stomach was still bothering her."
"Then..." Midoriya said as he stood up, slightly wobbly, "I guess I'll settle in, too. I'm going to need all the rest I can get, considering..."
Concern and disappointment radiated off of him as he left the Common Space and eventually made his way to his dorm room.
Every part of his body relaxed once he settled into his AllMight themed bed. He would've fallen asleep right away if it weren't for the fact that Uraraka wasn't feeling well. Part of him wanted to go check on her, but he didn't want to wake her up.
However, he felt like needed to do something. A deeper part of him also needed someone to confide in. Doubts kept flooding his mind as he hugged his blanket for support. About the performance, the dance, his feelings... everything.
Before even realizing it, he grabbed his phone and texted Uraraka.
Please be awake...
I'm sorry this chapter took so long. I've been busy and I kept having to rewrite the ending because I wasn't satisfied with it. I think this is the best way I could end the chapter, especially with what I have in mind for the next couple chapters.
I also polished up the past few chapters a bit. No big changes or anything, just a little bit of editing is all.
More coming soon, I promise!
