AN: If you haven't read any of my past AN's on my current chapter story, please do. My drive died on me and I'm going to see if I can't take it in next week to get it fixed.
I'm hoping. I'm using my old laptop currently which means I can't stream (which sucks) and I'm just…tired.
Enjoy.
The next day, the day of the team assignments, Naruto was found once more sitting in his place, with notebook open before him and writing in code, a mix of letters for the moment even as he started to learn some of the more obscure dialects of the Hidden Lands. Sasuke had come in about the same time as he had, taking his seat next to him and the two falling into some semblance of a comfortable silence. The other genin started to filter into the room as the two watched, noting who was arriving with who and who was arriving alone.
Naruto wrote it down in his book, working on his note taking and the code that was still in the works. Sasuke idly noted it as one that he had never seen before and wondered if the blond would tell him about it before going back to watching his fellow graduating class, mind flitting around to who his Jounin teacher was to be. He had been taken aside by one of the council members that watched over him and told that even if his teammates didn't pass, he would move forward anyways due to his scores and advanced skills as a Uchiha genius.
He didn't know if he believed it or not but cared less. He would move on and fulfill his lifetime goals one way or another.
Sasuke noticed that Naruto was giving him a semi-curious look but wasn't asking what was on his mind or making him brood so hard. Blinking at his silent companion, he laced his fingers together and watched as Naruto continued to write in his odd looking code, stopping every so often to reread what he had written before continuing on or erasing and rewriting that line. The Uchiha watched him with some interest, wondering just how he had missed the fact that Uzumaki was a lot smarter than he seemed.
Rubbing his thumb over his lip, Sasuke found himself scowling with Naruto as Sakura and Ino burst into the room, shoving and pushing each other out of the way before the pink haired female won their apparent contest. The two boys winced at her screeching like celebrating before she narrowed her green eyes at the fact that Naruto was sitting next to her Sasuke-kun. The fox just blinked at her once before shrugging and going back to his writing, his companion silently sighing and turning his eyes to stare out of the window next to the desks.
"Sasuke-kun! How are you today?" Sakura cooed brightly, trying to elbow Naruto out of his chair but finding her limb caught in a gentle grip and pushed away from the still writing boy. "Don't touch me!" she screeched, turning around to smack him and missing as he ducked, blue eyes watching her carefully. Naruto had learned that having a tutor that was much more dangerous then some genin girl helped his ability to dodge and not take shit from another person.
"Then don't try to hit me," he stated, waving a pen at her before going back to his writing with a huff. "I have things to do and I don't want to get into trouble on the last day that we're dealing with each other, Sakura," he continued, shaking his head with a frown on his face. "I suggest you take your seat and act like the genin you are now instead of the fan girl that you have been, damn it."
Sakura drew back and opened her mouth before shutting it at the cold glare that came from Sasuke. "I am not a fan girl," she snapped finally, getting dual snorts from the two boys as they went back to whatever they were doing. "What?"
"You're a fan girl. You stalk Uchiha here and that's kind of a scary thought that you probably know what type of shampoo or soap he uses," Naruto stated as he closed his note book, hiate flashing in the light as she narrowed her eyes at it.
"Hey, what are you doing here? I thought you hadn't graduated this time," she said, pointing at the brand new hiate that had been darkened so that it wouldn't shine in the light but would still be seen.
"I passed. How I passed is between me, Iruka-sensei and the Hokage," Naruto stated, heading off the questions he could feel coming as Sakura opened her mouth. She once more narrowed her eyes and put her hand on one hip, tapping her feet. "Seriously, Haruno. It's between me and them."
"Whatever. You're still a loser," Sakura snorted, turning to Sasuke, who she found was seemingly ignoring the conversations. Smiling brightly, she lent on the desk, nudging Naruto out of the way, making him grumble lowly before he settled once more. "So, Sasuke-kun, do you want to go out with me after our new sensei lets us go for the day?" she asked, still smiling brightly.
"No." Sakura pulled back with a frown and opened her mouth to try to convince the Uchiha to go out with her but was stopped as Iruka stepped into the room, smiling at the students before her.
"Welcome to the last time we will be meeting like this," Iruka greeted, placing the pile of papers in his hands down on the desk and lent against it with a smile on his lips. "From here on out, you are paid, mostly trained nin. If there is one thing that I have tried to make you all remember is that even though you have learned the groundwork for being a shinobi or kunochi of this village, you always have more to learn. I will be turning that over to your jounin sensei this day. From here on out, he or she will be your teacher, your guide and your comrade in all that you do for your village." He paused and looked over the students that he had taught for so long.
He lingered on Naruto and smiled softly at the subtle but strong changes that the last month had wrought on the young boy, seeing the way he was now and seeing the way he could be after a bit more training. Pulling his eyes away, he raised an eyebrow at the way Sasuke seemed to actually be doing more then staring out the window, but instead listening to what he was saying. It was something new, the young man having closed off so much by the time he had come to his classroom.
"Now, I expect you all to do your best while you're out there and to keep learning through your life. Find where you're happiest and don't let anyone tell you to do anything else. Remember, not every one is made out for the simpler life of a chunnin or the hard, very bloody life of the ANBU and hunter nins. We all have our passions, it's just a matter of finding out where they lay and going for them, my graduates. For now, I shall go over the teams and you just have to wait for your senseis to arrive and come gather you," Iruka stated, picking up the papers once more.
He went through the teams, Sakura cheering at the fact that she was in a team with Sasuke before snarling at the fact that Naruto was with them. She glared at the blond as he wrote something or another down before going back to listening to the team assignments, still smug that she had gotten Sasuke as one of her teammates, even though she had to deal with Naruto. Once they had their jounin names, the various groups settled in to wait, the teams collected quickly and leaving the now named Team Seven to wait for their late sensei.
Sighing, Naruto sat on one of the window seats and pulled out a small scroll, pulling out an orange, peeling it as Sasuke followed his example and pulling one of his own sealing scrolls out, biting into the pear that he pulled out. "I've heard that Kakashi-san is renowned for being seriously late to whatever he does. By like two hours at minimum," he finally said, his teammates turning to him with curious looks on their faces. "You'd be surprised what you can hear when people think you're not paying attention or think you're an idiot," Naruto drawled.
"So...what? He's purposefully late or something?" Sakura asked, Naruto shrugging one shoulder as he popped another slice of orange into his mouth. "What is that supposed to mean?" she yelled, nearly screeching and making the two males wince.
"It means, Haruno, that I don't know. I just know what I hear and see," Naruto stated, finishing off his orange and wiping off his hands with a snort at her. "So get your panties out of the bunch they've seemed to tighten themselves into, would ya?" Naruto and Sasuke lucked out in having to hear the coming rant by the door to the classroom sliding open, stopping her rant before it could even start.
