Mt. Moon Madness

"And so the next Pokemon Contest will be held in Cerulean City where the Sensational Sisters themselves will be competing!" Ash, Chloe and Brock were patiently waiting for Nurse Joy to finish their Pokemon's checkup. Although Ash was the only one to really have needed it on account of battling some random trainers on the way over, they felt it better safe than sorry as it'd take quite a few days to possibly even a full week to make it through Mt. Moon! The Pokemon Center was located just outside of the mountain's entrance, allowing for one last checkup or for trainers who either got lost or in over their heads to have quick access! The three were watching the television in the Pokemon Center's lobby when the broadcast came on. "Remember it's never too late to register and there are plenty of Contests left until the Grand Festival! Until next time this is your MC Lilian signing off!"

"Heh, my next ribbon awaits in Cerulean City!" Jessie smirked. The Rocket trio were currently in disguise, wearing trench coats and fedoras while Jessie tied up her hair so it wouldn't be recognizable. The three were across the room with their backs against the wall as they continued stalking Ash and Chloe, determined as ever in their quest to retrieve Pikachu and Eevee for their Boss!

"You can do it, Jess!" Meowth cheered.

"Yeah we'll be cheering for you-Hey!" James suddenly turned bright red as he saw the Magikarp Salesman approaching Ash and the others. James began walking forward to intercept him while Meowth and Jessie grabbed his arms in an attempt to slow him down.

"Don't do it James, you'll blow our cover!" Jessie hissed.

"Yeah, we'll ambush them in the middle of Mt. Moon just like we planned!" Meowth hissed.

"But that's the guy that ripped me off, I want to get my money back!"

"He is?!" Jessie and Meowth quickly shot the salesman a hostile look as they approached alongside James.

"Hello there kids, may I let you in on a secret? There's a very powerful Pokemon that I'm willing to sell you for a mere five hundred Pokedollars, you interested in hearing about it?"

"A powerful Pokemon? Sure I'd love to hear about it!"

"Pika pi!" Ash and Pikachu clenched their fists with excited looks while Chloe couldn't help but narrow her eyes as she was getting a bad vibe from the man.

"Allow me to introduce you to Magikarp," A Magikarp burst from it's ball and into the Salesman's arms as he held it out on display for Ash who grew a look of disappointed as it turned out to be Magikarp and not something rare like a Dratini or Scyther! "Magikarp can be raised to be quite the powerful Pokemon, don't you know that there's one Magikarp so powerful that it took out a Charizard with a single Hydro Pump?! This just happens to be that very Magikarp and I'm willing to sell it to you as I can tell that you've got great things coming your way kid, how about I sell it to you for four hundred Poked-"

"Hey you, I want my money back!" James threw off his fedora as he grabbed hold of the Salesman's arm. The Salesman let out a surprised eek and quickly shoved James away with surprising strength before bolting out the door.

"You've got to catch me first!"

"Get back here!" The Rocket trio went racing after him as they were determined to get their money back from the con artist!

"Well at least they aren't bothering us today..." Chloe sweated.

"That broadcast sure seemed to catch your attention though," Brock noted. "Have you considered becoming a Pokemon Coordinator?"

"I-I've thought about it on occasion but I'm not sure if that's the right path for me or not." Chloe gave off an undecisive look as she looked back at the television.

"Well there's no better way to find out and experiencing it for yourself!" Brock stated with a grin. "Getting a Coordinator's licence is not an obligation to gather ribbons, plenty of trainers quit after the first Gym just as there are plenty of Coordinators who quit after the first go at a Contest. Believe me when I say that you truly won't know if you're cut out for something unless you try it out for yourself!"

"I'll enter the Cerulean Contest with you Chloe," Ash offered with a warm smile. "You don't have to go through this alone."

Chloe flashed Ash an appreciative look as she offered him a smile in return. "Thank you, I-I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try!" Perhaps it might be just what she was looking for!

"Zu!" Chloe couldn't help but tense up as a Zubat colony swooped down from above.

"Don't worry about them, they're more afraid of you than you are of them." Brock stated with a light smile as he gazed around. "Just be careful where you sit or you might-" Brock stopped midsentence as he saw Ash had already taken a seat, the rock beneath him began moving catching Ash by surprise as he quickly leaped off. Pikachu's cheeks sparked as he leaped off to face whatever it was only to let out a surprised eek as an Onix towered over him and the others, it may just be the location but this Onix appeared to be even larger than Brock's! However there was one unquestionable aspect to the Onix as it appeared to be much more fierce looking than Brock's had been!

"ROAR!" Onix lashed out with his tail causing the ground beneath the three and their Pokemon to crumble before they were dropped to the ground below!

"Ahhh!" They cried out while Onix stared after them with a look full of anger before jerking his head as a hooded figure began rising from the shadows nearby.

"Good job Onix," The figure walked towards the hole and glanced down before looking up, though his facial features were unnoticeable a smirk could be present across his face. "We'll see how they fare against what awaits them below!"

Splash! Ash, Chloe, Brock, Pikachu, Eevee and Croagunk safely landed in a pool of water however getting back up wouldn't exactly be easy nor safe for them to even attempt at that moment as Onix was probably waiting up there.

"Man that was a long drop, we're lucky we didn't break anything..." Chloe noted as the hole was at least a good forty feet above them!

Brock turned on his Rotom Phone's flashlight app and began shining it around the cave. "Well we're not in any part that humans normally travel through, there aren't torches on any of the walls." Mt. Moon had torches set up along the cave to help safely guide travelers through the darker parts of the cave system, the Flash technique used to be required before being deemed unsafe as most trainers wouldn't normally come across a Pokemon capable of utilizing the move! Thus torches were set out so trainers wouldn't blindly stumble through the cave and either wind up lost or worse.

"Well surely there's a way out somewhere." Chloe gazed around the room. "We should conserve our batteries though just in case, Brock you keep yours on and once it dies out I'll turn mine on. No sense in all three of us wasting our batteries all at once and winding up in the dark."

"Good plan," Brock moved the light around the room before focusing it on a nearby tunnel. "That's our best chance at a way out of here, let's go." As they headed towards the tunnel Croagunk paused and glanced towards the water for a brief moment, silently croaking as his eyes locked onto the water surface.

"Croagunk let's go!" Croagunk turned to follow his trainer, not noticing the water slowly rise up as two prehistoric Pokemon emerged from below. The twerps landing in the pool apparently disturbing their ancient slumber as the two uttered out annoyed cries before making their way after the group, one slithered across the ground while the other raced on ahead, waving it's scythe-like arms about in a rather menacing manner as he pursued the twerps!

"RANTRU!" A loud roar echoed through a tunnel ahead as the three would come to a fork in the road, they had no way of knowing which way was out but a rather loud and frightful roar quickly made their decision for them.

"This way!" Ash quickly spoke up.

"Without a doubt," Chloe shivered as the roar sounded like something from the Prehistoric Park films that her parents enjoyed. If it belonged to what she thought it was then there was absolutely no way that she'd go down that path!

The three continued walking through the tunnel and Chloe slowly began feeling rather uneasy as she couldn't help but feel as if somebody were watching them. "You guys feel like we're being watched?"

"A bit but I'm sure that's just Croagunk." Brock shrugged it off as he was used to Croagunk staring at his back as he followed behind them, however he'd turn around and noticed Croagunk staring back the way they'd came from. "Croagunk, what's up?"

"Croa..." Croagunk croaked in a rather unusual deep manner as he focused on the darkness.

"That's strange, Croagunk sounds like he's ready for a fight." Ash remarked while Chloe slowly edged closer to Ash as she began heavily shivering before releasing a loud scream as a large prehistoric Pokemon came leaping out into the light, slashing dangerously at the air with his scythes as he attempted to cut down the twerps before Croagunk delivered a powerful Poison Jab attack to the Pokemon's backside! The prehistoric Pokemon fell forward with a grunt and slowly began to rise as a light purple tint formed across his face. The Pokemon locked eyes with Croagunk, his scythes glowed a bright purple color as he lashed out with Night Slash!

"What's that Pokemon?" Ash questioned as he quickly pulled out his Rotom Phone in an attempt to scan it. It may seem like a silly time to do so but it'd be easier to manage if they knew what exactly they were dealing with here!

"Kabutops the Shellfish Pokemon, the cause behind the extinction of this species is unknown. Kabutops were aggressive Pokemon that inhabited warm seas!"

"Pikachu help Croagunk out with a Thunder Shock!"

"Pikachuuu!" Pikachu's cheeks sparked shortly before he fired off an electric bolt at Kabutops causing electricity to surge through the prehistoric Pokemon's body as it cried out in pain!

"Croagunk!" Croagunk quickly took the chance to lash out with another Poison Jab, dispatching the prehistoric Pokemon as it landed face first in the dirt with a soft thud as swirls formed within his eyes.

"Tops..."

"Best not to take any chances," Ash quickly threw a Pokeball at the downed Kabutops, the ball smacked against the Pokemon's skull before engulfing it's body in a bright red light as the Pokeball hit the cave floor and began rapidly shaking back and forth. The ball chimed out to signify the capture but they wouldn't have much time to ponder over where it came from or why it was there as his buddy finally caught up.

"Oma?!"

"Omastar the Spiral Pokemon, Omastar uses its tentacles to capture its prey. It is believed to have become extinct because its shell grew too large and heavy, causing its movements to become too slow and ponderous!"

"Well sounds like it shouldn't be too much of a hassle to beat compared to it's buddy," Ash spoke with a cocky smirk. "Alright Pikachu you know what to do, use Thunder Shock!"

Pikachu's cheeks began to spark but rather than lash out with an attack, Omastar choose to utter a fierce cry that would echo throughout the cavern. Ash and his friends covered their ears while Pikachu and Eevee placed their paws over their ears.

"Screech!" Brock gritted his teeth before turning his head as he noticed something out of the corner of his eye. Small shadows began to emerge and the group soon found themselves surrounded by a rather large swarm of Omastar!

"Oma!"

"Omastar!"

"Star!"

"Omastar!"

"Pika..." Pikachu flattened his ears against his head as he wasn't liking the odds anymore. He could possibly handle a quarter of them with Splishy Splash, knocking them away with the electrified wave but would that be enough to stop them? Eevee flattened her own ears as she rested in Chloe's arms with a fearful look.

"E-Eevee we need your help! Y-You too Nidoran and Sakura!"

"Nido!"

"Freee!" Chloe's Nidoran and Butterfree emerged in a burst of bright light shortly followed by Ash's own Nidoran and Butterfree. Beedril, Treecko and Spearow followed after the two while Pikachu and Croagunk remained on the ready as the swarm came closing in.

"Butterfree use Sleeping Powder!"

"Sakura use Sleeping Powder!"

"Freee!" The Butterfree flew over the Omastar swarm and began dropping bright blue powder down upon them resulting in the Omastar's eyelids to slowly begin drooping shut as they started falling asleep. However the sheer number of Omastar resulted in them being replaced rather quickly as more simply took their place and continued closing in on the ground while some Omastar in the back fired off a massive array of Water Gun at the Butterfree, overwhelming them before they'd drop from the sky and fall towards the ground!

"Butterfree return!" Ash and Chloe held out their Pokeballs as they returned the Butterfree. "Nidoran and Beedrill use Poison Sting, Beedrill use Twineedle! Spearow I'm not asking you to attack but if you want to get out alive then I suggest you do so!" Spearow cast off an annoyed expression as he looked towards Ash before taking one look at the Omastar, the sparrow shook his head before spreading his wings as he took to the roof of the cave leaving the others behind!

"Spearow!" Ash frustratingly shouted out.

"Nidoran use Poison Sting, Eevee use Tackle!"

The other Pokemon fired off their attacks before quickly finding themselves overwhelmed as Omastar began crawling on top of them and burying them in a sea of prehistoric Pokemon! Treecko put up a good fight with his Bullet Seed but eventually found himself overrun!

"Everyone return!" Ash and Chloe returned the Pokemon to their Pokeballs while Pikachu fired off as many bolts of electricity as he could but quickly found himself growing tired and worn out. Croagunk was in a similar situation as he jabbed as many Omastar as he could but was eventually buried beneath the swarm resulting in Brock returning him to his ball.

"P-Pika..." Eevee began tearing up as things were looking bad and there was little that she could do as Tackle and Sizzly Slide hardly affected Omastar and there was only so much that Sand Attack could do! Pikachu soon collapsed from exhaustion resulting in Ash picking him up and holding him close against his chest while the Omastar grew closer and now surrounded the twerps!

"W-What do we do now?!" Chloe shivered as she latched onto Ash's arm.

"I-I don't know..."

Brock was frozen in fear as the Omastar began closing in on them, their tentacles touching their shoes.

"A-Ash are we going to... die?" Chloe gulped.

"I-I'm not sure..."

"E-Eevoi..." Eevee flattened her ears as tentacles wrapped around her body however her ears soon perked as she sensed a rather familiar presence nearby. She glanced up and noticed a bright pink orb shine above them for a brief moment before disappearing, Eevee curiously tilted her head before she felt something invisible and soft touch her nose as a soft feminine giggle could be heard. Eevee felt a warm sensation flowing through her body much like she had the night before she and Chloe officially set off on their adventure together, she couldn't explain it but somehow she knew what she needed to do now!

"Eevoi!" Eevee cried out as she stretched herself out and lashed with her tail before a massive vine came bursting through the ground in front of them, going straight up before crashing through the roof of the cave as it continued stretching before making it to the top of the mountain! Sunlight was now visible above them but before they could move, Eevee suddenly tackled the three against the vine as large seeds began dropping down like nukes, exploding upon impact and sending Omastar flying throughout the cave as they cried out!

"W-What was that...?" Brock gasped out.

"I-I don't know, I didn't even know Eevee could do that!" Chloe gasped. "I sure never read about a move like that either!"

"T-That was awesome!" Ash laughed, his mood instantly changing as they were no longer in danger. He looked around in amazement as the Omastar flew through the air while some began making their escape as they slithered deeper into the cave.

"Spearow!" Spearow cried out as a seed blasted him out of the sky!

"Return..." Ash sighed out as he returned the sparrow to his Pokeball.

"Eevoi!" Eevee had a rather cute smile across her face despite all the destruction and unconscious Pokemon that laid all over her.

"That was great Eevee, I have no idea how you pulled that off but thank you so much!" Chloe squealed as she pulled Eevee in for a tight hug, Eevee let out a pleasant cry before nuzzling her.

Brock looked around at the Omastar before looking towards Ash. "You think you should capture one for the Professor? I'm sure he'd love to get to study an Omastar in person."

"I-I'll do it!" Chloe spoke as she locked her eyes on an unconscious Omastar. "P-Pokeball go!" Omastar honestly gave her the creeps but perhaps it'd be a useful partner to have on their adventure! The ball smacked against Omastar's body and quickly absorbed the prehistoric Pokemon in a beam of red light. They watched in silence as the ball began shaking back and forth before it'd eventually chime to signal the capture.

"W-We did it, we caught Omastar!"

"Eevoi!"

"Ran!" A vicious loud roar was heard followed by loud footsteps as the loud ruckus created by Eevee's explosions had drawn the creature right towards them!

Ash shot a look down the tunnel before looking straight up at the vine that Eevee created, giving it a hard kick with his foot to test it before he turned to the others. "Let's just climb straight out of here, I don't want to stick around and meet whatever that Pokemon is."

"Agreed!" Brock and Chloe began climbing the vine, Eevee resting atop Chloe's head while Ash waited to give his friends some space. As he began to climb the wall he noticed what appeared to be a tyrannosaurus Pokemon stomping it's way into the cavern with a loud roar.

"Holy-!" Ash began climbing up like a madman before the Pokemon could see him. The Tyrantrum sniffed at the air before looking up with an annoyed growl as he saw something near the top of the vine. He let out a loud roar as he charged at the vine and bashed his head against it causing it to shake back and forth, Ash's grip slipped but he continued making his way to the top, not daring to stop to catch his breath as whatever that was obviously wanted to get him!

"Ash, grab my hand!" Chloe leaned over the hole as she and Brock stood at the top of the mountain. Brock looked down and tensed up before pushing Chloe aside.

"No offense Chloe but I've got this!" Brock didn't mean to sound harsh but he had longer arms and had a muscular physique, and they needed to get Ash out of there fast! "Just grab onto my waist if you see my starting to slip." Chloe quietly nodded as she cast a fearful look down below.

"RAN!" Tyrantrum raced across the cave and bashed his head against the vine again causing it to shake back and forth before a loud snap was heard!

"Ash, jump now!" Brock let out an alarmed shout as the vine began falling back!

"Hold on Pikachu," Ash called out as Pikachu dug his claws into Ash's shoulders. Ash leaped off and soared through the air, his arm reaching for Brock's as their hands inched closer together. Their fingers grazed against each other but before Brock had a firm grip Ash suddenly fell from the sky causing Brock to curse while Chloe let out a scream of terror!

Tyrantrum licked his lips as he saw Ash and Pikachu falling towards him, he opened up his mouth and stood beneath them as he prepared to have his lunch! Ash closed his eyes and held Pikachu closely as they quickly dropped towards Tyrantrum however rather than land on a slobbery tongue, they landed on something rather soft and bouncy? Ash slowly opened an eye before looking down to see a bright pink bubble beneath him!

"W-What's going on?!"

"P-Pika pi?!" The bubble rose upwards causing Tyrantrum to snap at empty air before uttering out a roar of frustration as Ash and Pikachu were delivered safely to Brock and Chloe.

"Ash!" Chloe quickly threw her arms around him as she cried tears of joy. "I-I was so worried!"

"S-Same here..." Ash shivered before gently placing an arm around her. Brock meanwhile stared at the pink bubble before leaping back in shock as it blasted away like a rocket! He looked questionably towards Ash and Chloe as he wondered if they'd seen that before before going silent as he figured it best not to interrupt.

The shadowy figure emerged from a nearby shadow and clenched his fists as he looked upon Ash and Chloe's relatively unharmed figures before he sank back into the shadows, disappearing from sight.

"My goodness, you really caught a Kabutops and Omastar?!" Stars filled Professor Oak's eyes as Cerise offered the two a similarly impressive look while Oak held the Pokeballs in hand. Ash and Chloe figured it best to leave them at the lab until they properly adjusted to the modern day life, that way they wouldn't have to worry about Kabutops and Omastar trying to eat their teammates or their opponents!

"That's quite the impressive feat but how on earth did you manage to do that?" Ash and Chloe began sweating nervously as they wondered rather or not to tell him, Professor Oak was one thing but Chloe's father was a completely different story!

"W-Well you see we don't really know, a-after the floor collapsed and we well into a pool, Kabutops just came out of nowhere and attacked us but thanks to Pikachu and Croagunk we were able to make quick work of it which is when I captured it." Ash explained with a light chuckle before shivering as he could sense Cerise's incoming shouts as he'd continue. "T-Then it's friend arrived and let out a loud screech before an entire Omastar swarm came slithering in! They had us outnumbered and we probably wouldn't have made it out of there had Eevee not shown off this awesome Grass attack!"

Cerise's eye twitched. "Y-You were almost killed?!"

Ash nervously sweated before Chloe quickly reached out for the 'end call' button. "Love you dad, bye!"

"Chloe don't-!"

Chloe turned to Ash while lightly sweating before tilting her head. "How did you get out anyways?" Chloe honestly didn't process it, her mind had been set entirely on Ash's safe return.

"I-I have no idea, there was this bright pink bubble but I didn't see any Pokemon around at all that could have done it... you didn't do that, did you?" Ash suddenly looked to Pikachu who quickly raised his paws and shook his head.

Chloe tilted her head once more with a thoughtful expression while faintly humming as she pondered over the identity of Ash's savior. She couldn't think of anything but something told her that they'd meet whoever it was as their adventure continues!

Bet you didn't see that coming, eh?
