"Is this what kids like?" Haruka tilted her head and held the colorful jacket. Her face clearly showed how confused and slightly disgusted she was at the piece of clothing in her hand.
"Is what Hotaru likes. You should get it for her."
"I don't know, Michiru. It looks pretty ugly to me."
"Haruka, her birthday is tomorrow and you haven't bought her anything. I am sure she will be super happy with the jacket."
Haruka pursed her lips, and after a couple of seconds, she placed the jacket back in the hanger with the rest. Michiru let out an annoyed sigh before rubbing her temples. "Michiru I am not going to buy her something she will not like. She is a teenager, for goodness sakes. That thing looked like it belonged to a five year old that rolled around rainbow poop."
The violinist groaned, grabbed her lover's hand, and pulled at her. "Then what else do you have in mind?"
"I don't know. That's why I brought you with me. You always know what to get for others."
Michiru groaned at that. She felt that she had a lot of pressure. She got Hotaru a new violin since the soon-to-be eighteen-year-old had been taking lessons during summer, and of course, the gift being from Michiru, she got her daughter the most expensive one. She wouldn't tell Haruka that; she didn't want to get an earful about keeping up with the budget.
Haruka sighed anxiously before scratching the back of her head. "I mean I could get her something she might need…"
"Like what?"
Haruka shrugged. "She is going off to college soon."
"Please don't remind me. I am going to miss her so much."
"True. But we will have the house for ourselves." Haruka said, nudging her lover and placing one arm over her shoulders as she pulled her close. "How long has it been since we've made love in the kitchen?"
"Last week, Haruka."
Haruka frowned. "It was a rhetorical question."
"No it wasn't." Michiru said, earning an annoyed grunt from the blonde, yet she hooked her arm with Haruka's waist and squeezed. "I am kidding, but you should really think about what to get her."
Haruka nodded, kissed Michiru's temple, and turned to look down the hall as they exited the clothing store. "I could really go for a coffee though."
"Now?"
Haruka gave Michiru that ageless boyish smile that made her knees weak and hard to say no to whatever the blonde wanted. "I will go to the store next door and see what I can get her while you fetch me that coffee."
Michiru inhaled through her nose and nodded. "Meet me here?"
"Of course," Haruka said, and as Michiru turned to walk away, she grabbed her by the forearm and pulled her back for a soft kiss.
"What was that for?" Michiru asked, raising a blue eyebrow at her lover. "You are planning something, aren't you?"
Haruka chuckled and shook her head, kissing the tip of Michiru's nose. "Not at all. I will meet you here." She released Mcihiru's arm and watched her give her a suspicious glance before turning away towards the food court.
The blonde sighed deeply, finally alone and able to do as she pleased without Michiru's butting in. She loved Her wife to death, there was no doubt in her mind, but she knew the woman like the back of her hand after being together for more than two decades. If Michiru saw what she was about to do, she might get an earful. Haruka quickly made her way down the hall heading to the entertainment zone.
Last month, she and Hotaru went to the mall and bought something for her future dorm room. As they passed the large entertainment area of the mall, there were a couple of cars on display, and Hotaru had stopped to stare with such longing that Haruka's heart felt heavy in her chest. Hotaru needed a vehicle. She needed it so she could come and visit them whenever she needed to.
The car that caught Hotaru's eyes was a red Lincoln Corsair, and Haruka was just about to get it for her.
She walked up to one of the young salesmen, who immediately recognized the popular car racer. Haruka smiled at that; maybe… she could get a nice deal if she squeezed her popularity a bit.
Michiru waited for Haruka for almost half an hour. She began to get impatient and decided to stroll down the hall she had seen the blonde leave. She found her sitting down at the entertainment area, next to a gorgeous red car, and signing a couple of papers happily. Michiru frowned as her lover stood, shaking her hand with a young man. Said young man then put the car key with its beeper in Haruka's open palm.
Oh, no, she didn't…
Michiru hurried to Haruka, whose wide smile shrunk when she saw the violinist running to her holding their coffees.
"Tenoh Haruka!"
"Thanks for the coffee, love."
"You bought her a car?"
Haruka took the coffee from Michiru's hands, pulled the tab, and took a quick sip. "Oh, caramel. You know me so well."
"Answer the question."
Haruka took one large gulp before nodding. "I did."
"Haruka! I-"
"You think I didn't notice when you bought her the violin? Do you forget that we have joint accounts, love?"
Michiru sighed. There was no hiding from Haruka, was it? "Alright. Fine. Which one did you get her?"
Haruka's grin grew wide, "You want to give it a test drive before we give it to her tomorrow?"
Michiru wanted to say no at first, but she missed the excitement of riding next to Haruka in a brand new car. She pursed her lips, looked up at her lover, and then stood on the tip of the toe to give her a quick peck on her sweet lips.
"Don't spill the coffee!"
