Aussie's Sons of the Bat Series
Warning:
(a) I have only just returned to writing after 10 years, so I am a bit rusty and have no beta. There are a number of spelling/grammar/vocabulary differences between American and Australian English so before you read, please be aware I write with an Aussie accent. 😊
(b) I have been out of comics for a long time, so have no idea what continuity is doing. For this reason, you probably need to view this as an alternative universe.
Series: My 'Sons of the Bat' series looks at my take on the relationship between the boys who have worn the Robin costume… or more specifically, Dick's central role in the Batfamily.
Reading Order:
Story 1: "A Momentary Lapse of Judgement"
Story 2: "I've Got Your Back"
Story 6: "His Boys" (Yet to be published as I'm writing the stories that come before it.)
"Big Brother" (No specific place in the reading order)
"Kidnapped" (Comes after "His Boys")
Final Note: For anyone who is interested, I am working on my Dick Grayson Celebration and Magnificent Seven Websites again. A shell is back online. Go to If this link does not appear, put this together. w w w dot aussie-lass dot com
Disclaimer: Sadly, Dick Grayson isn't owned by me. DC has that privilege. DC owns all of the characters in this story. All I own is the distinctive way the story unfolds, the specific dialogue and unique situations. (g) No money is being made from this. Please don't sue. It wouldn't be worth your while.

"I'm not expecting the drop for another hour, but I wanted to be in place," Nightwing explained. "I'm just doing a sweep of the street." He was investigating a drug ring - one that was operating out of Gotham Library.
"The police ball is coming up," Oracle stated, licking her lips. She had been going to say something earlier when he'd dropped by, but she hadn't known how to bring it up when they were face to face. She waited.
"Is it?" Dick chuckled.
She smirked. "Shut up. It is just a matter of requiring an escort."
"So, the guy in the finance department didn't work out, huh?"
Oracle sighed. None of them ever 'worked out'. She was quickly beginning to realize her heart belonged to the one person she was terrified of giving it to for fear of losing him. "I…"
"What the…"
Oracle listened intently, her brow furrowing with concentration. Dick had sounded startled. Through the audio, she detected the sound of a scuffle. Barbara was immediately alert, but not concerned.
Her fingers danced on the keyboard as she turned up the volume and enhanced the clarity of the signal. Very faint, but distinctly she heard a single word from an unidentified voice that caused a flood of adrenalin. "…kidnapping."
Abruptly, Nightwing's voice filled her ears. "I'm okay. Turning off coms."
Nightwing's voice was breathy – high-pithed. Something was wrong.
A click - he was gone.
"NO!"
Why hadn't he given the kidnapping code? Something was very, wrong!
Oracle typed furiously on the keyboard, attempting to reactivate the communicator in Dick's mask. However, it had been both digitally and manually switched off.
"All points to Bat Team. Nightwing has just been kidnapped. I am relaying his final position. Coms off both digitally and manually. He sounded…odd. I think… I think you need to hurry!"

Oracle watched as the four flashing blips on her computer monitor converged on Nightwing's position. He'd only been taken a few hundred feet from where he'd been captured.
She checked the time. 11 minutes and 16 seconds since he'd been taken. 11 minutes and 16 seconds of agonizing silence when just about anything could have happened.
The sound of Dick's voice replayed in Barbara's mind. She'd never heard it sound like that. "Come on," she urged.
Red Robin, Robin and Red Hood all arrived at the same time; Batman still a few minutes away.
"Oracle, have you re-established contact?" Tim demanded.
"No. According to his tracker, he's been taken to the corner of 42nd and Albert."
She watched as the flashing blips darted toward the location.
This was the one part of her new role Barbara hated. When she had been in the field as Batgirl it had been totally different – all go. As Oracle, 'waiting' had become an essential part of the job. Normally, she could handle it, but Dick's voice had been… "Come on."

"Metas?" Damian asked as he and his partners approached the identified building at pace.
"Oracle, said he sounded odd," Tim murmured as the trio eyed the dilapidated single storey structure that was lit up inside.
"Maybe they drugged him," Damian murmured.
"Maybe," Jason agreed. "Nanobot?" A nanobot – a microscopic robot first used in medicine to deliver drugs to save lives. Last week, Superman had taken down a meta whose will had been rendered powerless, effectively being 'programmed' to follow instructions because of highly sophisticated coding applied to a nanobot style of robot that had attached itself to the meta's brainstem. It was a terrifying discovery - one that had Batman concerned.
Robin and Red Robin eyed Hood carefully. There had to be a reason Nightwing switched off his communicator; a reason he hadn't given the kidnapping code. A nanobot would certainly explain it.
"If it's like the one that Superman found the other week, Nightwing may not be in control. He may attack us."
Jason cursed softly. "Maybe… if it is a nanobot. If he's been drugged."
"If he's been kidnapped." Afterall, Dick had said he was fine. But Oracle was so certain something was wrong, and they trusted her instincts.
The trio moved in. "How do you want to do this?" Tim asked cautiously.
"Full frontal. Nightwing may not have time for us to pussyfoot around," Jason growled.
There was a shared nod and the trio burst through the door… and froze!
" #$Q!"
