Chapter 3: Diagon Alley
I don't own Digimon or Harry Potter
"You sure about this Dai?" Demi-Veemon asked, the little Digimon riding on Daisuke's head as she walked through the park heading to a meeting with the rest of the DigiDestined, today was the day she would tell them about her going to Hogwarts and being from a magical family.
"I am Vee, this is as good a time as any." She answered, looking down at the picnic basket in her hands she smiled. "At least there will be food."
"Oh boy!" he cheered. "Do you think Yolei bought any of those sushi rolls?"
"I'm sure she did." Daisuke replied with a smile. After a few more minutes of walking, she entered a clearing in the park shaded by several large trees, already she noticed several of her friends sitting under the largest of the trees on a large picnic blanket.
"Hey, there you are kitten!" a blonde-haired boy with blue eyes chirped waving and she smiled brightly.
"Willis!" she cheered, running over to the American DigiDestined who was visiting today so his twin Digimon could spend time with the others.
"Terriermon, Lopmon!" Demi-Veemon cheered, waving to the twin Digimon who were sitting on the grass before they smiled and waved.
"What're we chopped liver?" Poromon, the In-Training form of Yolei's Digimon partner asked, bouncing over to the new arrivals with Upamon, the In-Training form of Cody's Digimon partner, Gatomon and Patamon following.
"Oh, chopped liver sounds yum." Upamon chirped, the other Digimon giving him an odd look.
"You eat just about anything." Demi-Veemon said with a pout. Daisuke rolled her eyes and set her picnic basket down before her partner hopped down to mingle with the other Digimon before Willis walked over.
"How ya been kitten?" he asked in fluent Japanese picking her up in a hug and spinning her around making her shriek with laughter.
"Put me down Willis!" she said squirming out of his arms and pouting at the taller male who simply grinned back.
"Yeah, save some for us." A voice behind Daisuke said, the girl spun around and was picked up in another hug by Tai Kamiya.
"Ugh…too tight." She whined in pain feeling a bone or two pop from the older man's exuberant hug. She was only let go by Tai when an orange haired teen by the name of Sora Takenouchi walked over and pulled his ear tightly.
"Alright you've hugged her enough. Besides the others are arriving now." She said, poking his chest before gesturing to a small group walking into the area.
"Hey, sorry we're late." A blue haired boy wearing glasses named Joe Kido said with a smile. "We had to wait for Mimi to come through the Digi-port."
"Well, you can't be too prepared for a get together of DigiDestined, after all I wanted you all to try my new dishes I've cooked." Mimi Tachikawa said with a smile, her partner Palmon nodding as both held up several plastic containers full of food.
"Man, you're really wanting to start that cooking show aren't ya Mimi?" Tai asked his friend with a grin. "Lemme guess you had Izzy taste test for you?"
"That's right, Izzy is such a sweetheart. He even helps me cook time to time." Mimi answered, looking to the red haired teen as he worked on something on his trusty laptop while his Digimon partner Tentomon slept beside him.
"Well how about that." Tai muttered.
"Enough talking, let's eat!" his Digimon partner, Agumon shouted jumping onto Tai's back making him stumble and fall over and land on his face.
"Agumon!" he whined as the rest of the group laughed. After they had finished laughing, they all sat down and began eating the food brought by everyone, everyone enjoying Mimi's home cooked food.
"Oh man this is so good." Demi-Veemon chirped, his face covered in thick, creamy sauce as he devoured his small plate of food.
"Oh, Vee." Daisuke said softly, grabbing a napkin and cleaning his face quickly. "There we are." She chirped, her partner smiling brightly and going back to eating until finally, everyone had finished eating.
"So, kitten. You said you had something to tell us?" Willis asked, a small smile on his face as he sat beside his co-inheritor of the Golden Radiance.
"That's right. I do." Daisuke answered with a shy smile. "Before I do, can you promise me that you'll wait until I finish before asking questions?" the DigiDestined and their Digimon blinked at the question, but nodded in understanding. "And also, can you all promise to never tell anyone what you're about to hear?" she then asked, somewhat hesitantly.
This made everyone pause and give her a curious expression. "Well, sure. But why would we need to?" Kari Kamiya asked her friend curiously.
"Because what I am about to tell you is very important, and if anyone else found out it could cause problems for us." She answered, her friends raised their eyebrows at her cryptic answer.
"Well, you'd better start talking. We've got plenty of daylight left." Willis told her with a smile.
Daisuke nodded and so, she began to tell her friends everything that she cleared with her father earlier about what she could tell her friends that would not expose the magical world too much.
"Whoa, wait a second, back up." Yolei said, shaking her hands quickly before pointing at Daisuke. "You're saying you and your cousin are going to a magical school in England soon, why though? Isn't there a Japanese magical school?"
"Yes, there is. It's called Mahoutokoro."
"Then why don't you go to that school instead?" Yolei asked and some of the others nodded agreeing with her question.
"Because my father is from a long line of magical people back in England, his family are well known and respected. Every one of his family has a place at Hogwarts, it's tradition almost." Daisuke answered softly. "And also, it's not like I would be gone all year. I would come back for the holidays like Christmas."
"Will Demi-Veemon be going with you?" Tai asked her.
"Yep, papa said he would be allowed to go." Daisuke chirped, hugging Demi-Veemon to her chest and the dragon cheered happily.
"When does school start?" Kari asked.
"Well papa says we're leaving a day early to make sure we're there on time and don't get delayed. The train leaves Kings Cross Station on September 1st." Daisuke answered.
"That's not for almost a month." TK said.
"I know, so we've got time to have fun and hang out together before Jun and I have to go." Daisuke replied with a smile. Her friends all smiled in understanding and nodded.
"Don't worry Dai, your secret is safe with us." Tai promised the younger girl who smiled brightly.
"Thanks, you guys, I knew I could count on you." She said softly. Soon after a few more hours of hanging out with the rest of the DigiDestined and their Digimon, playing games or just relaxing, the time had come for everyone to head back home.
Daisuke and Willis were talking together, Terriermon and Lopmon sitting on Willis' shoulders while Demi-Veemon was being held in Daisuke's arms. "Now be sure not to have too much fun while at Hogwarts, kitten. We know how stuff happens around ya." Willis chirped with a grin making her pout.
"I'll have you know that if anything happens, it won't be because of me. Rather it'll probably be because it happens while I'm around or something." She replied, making the Digimon giggle.
"Just promise you'll be safe okay?" he asked her softly.
"I promise." She answered and he grinned before kissing her cheek and her face turned a deep shade of red.
"Awesome, see ya around then, kitten." He chirped, running off with a bright grin and Daisuke frowned.
"Willis Stuart, you jerk! I said not to do that anymore!" she shouted, shaking her fist angrily at the fleeing blonde who replied with laughter.
"I think he likes ya." Demi-Veemon chirped with a smile making his partner slump and sigh deeply.
"Man, boys are crazy." She muttered, turning, and heading off home.
A few days later, the Ainsworth-Motomiya family had left for England via magical means that Alexander had arranged and were currently staying in a nice flat somewhere in the middle of London so they could go and buy Daisuke and Jun's school supplies for the upcoming year before it got too crowded and overwhelming.
Daisuke and Demi-Veemon who had digivolved into Veemon after arriving the previous night, were sleeping together in Daisuke's room, the bedsheet on the floor and both snowing loudly. Their snores abruptly ended when a pitcher of water appeared over their heads and poured the water onto their faces.
Both woke up sputtering and coughing out the water and they heard someone laughing and saw Jun standing in the doorway with a small grin and her wand in her hand. "Rise and shine sleepyheads."
"You're dead!" Daisuke shouted. She jumped out of the bed, Veemon right behind her and they chased the older girl through the flat while Alexander and Natsumi watched the sight with smiles, Daisuke and Veemon soon tackled Jun to the ground and pinned her down.
"Victory!" both cheered.
"Oh no, beaten by two brats. Whatever shall I do?" Jun asked with a roll of her eyes before she cried out when her cousin and Veemon began to tickle her sides and under her arms.
"No mercy!" Daisuke shouted with a smirk.
"Alright that's enough you two." Alexander said, walking over and picking Veemon and Daisuke up easily and both flailed in his arms.
"Papa no fair! She must pay!" Daisuke said dramatically.
"You can get back at your cousin later, right now you need to have breakfast and get ready." Her father said, he sat her down at the table with Veemon before taking out his wand and flicking it and he dried them both off leaving no sign they had been drenched by water just moments ago.
"Oh, we'll get her back alright, revenge will be glorious." Daisuke thought already conducting a plan to get her cousin back.
Soon the family had finished their breakfast and after they all got dressed, they left the flat and headed for the entrance to Diagon Alley. After ten minutes of walking, the family stood outside a dimly lit looking pub on a corner, Daisuke and Veemon who was wearing a jacket and hat to cover his appearance looked up at the sign as it swung in the gentle breeze.
"The Leaky Cauldron." Both said, reading the name on the sign before Alexander opened the door to the pub and his family walked in before he followed them, weaving through the dimly lit pub that was occupied by various witches and wizards.
"Good morning Tom, lovely to see you again." Natsumi said to the man behind the bar with a gentle smile.
"Natsumi, Alexander. Hogwarts business I assume?" he asked, looking at Jun and smiling at the girl who nodded before he caught sight of Daisuke.
"Indeed, it's Daisuke's first year." Alexander said, holding Daisuke close and she smiled shyly at the man who nodded.
"Well, I hope to see you come through for many more years to come." He said with a kind smile, he looked to Alexander and Natsumi. "Please do come back again soon."
Alexander and Natsumi nodded and led their daughters and Veemon out through the back door of the pub to a closed off area with a large brick wall and a few empty bins with bits of trash fluttering away in the wind.
"Jun, care to do the honours?" Jun nodded to her uncle and stepped towards the brick wall, she took out her wand and tapped a few bricks in a pattern. Daisuke and Veemon's eyes widened in awe as the wall began to shift and reshape itself, forming an archway leading to a large cobblestone street.
"Daisuke, Veemon. Welcome to Diagon Alley." Natsumi told them with a smile. Daisuke and Veemon shared a look before smiling and heading into the alley with their family following.
"Wow, this is amazing." Daisuke said, looking every which way at every storefront she could see, it was like the other Magical District back in Japan, only this place had its own feel and charm about it.
"It sure is, I never get tired of coming here." Jun said with a small smile, looking around she spotted a few teenagers around her age. "Oh there's a few of my friends from school, I'm gonna go see how they're doing." She told her aunt and uncle, running off before they could stop her.
"Don't wander off too much!" Alexander called after her, his wife smiling softly as she took his hand.
"She'll be fine. She's a big girl." She reassured him. He smiled and nodded before both noticed Daisuke had walked off down the street. "Daisuke!" she called walking after her daughter with Veemon and Alexander.
Daisuke didn't stop on hearing her parents call out to her, her eyes were focused solely on a young boy around her age who was standing in the middle of the street, looking absolutely terrified. He had messy black hair, striking emerald green eyes behind round glasses that clearly had been mended over and over with tape.
Another thing she noticed was that his clothes were several sizes too big for him, so much so that he was almost swimming in them.
"Hi there." She greeted with a smile; the young boy jumped slightly in surprise before he looked at her.
"Oh, hello." He said softly.
"Here for your Hogwarts shopping yeah?" Daisuke asked and the boy's eyes brightened, and he nodded quickly making her smile and nod. "I'm Daisuke Ainsworth, nice to meet you." She greeted and the boy blinked, tilting his head slightly as he looked at her. "You can just call me Daisy if you'd like. I don't mind."
"Harry Potter." The boy said softly, waiting for a reaction but to his surprise Daisuke simply smiled.
"Nice to meet you Harry." She said before frowning. "Where are your parents, shouldn't they be here with you? You didn't come on your own, did you?"
"Oh no, I'm here with Hagrid. But he went off back to the pub after he almost threw up in Gringotts after we rode the mining carts down to the vaults and back." Harry explained. "He said I could do my shopping on my own easy enough, only I don't know where to go."
Daisuke blinked and crossed her arms. "Hm that seems a bit irresponsible to leave a kid on their own in a place they've never been, something bad is bound to happen." She muttered before linking arms with Harry. "Don't worry about it, just stick with me for now and we'll do our shopping together." She chirped brightly to the boy who blinked and shyly smiled.
"Really? You'd do that?"
"Of course. Now come on let's get to it." She said. She led the boy off to her parents and Veemon, after a slight scolding from her mother about not wandering off, she explained Harry's situation to them while the boy was acting quite shy, hiding behind the girl while holding onto her arm which made her mother coo at the adorable sight.
"Come on then, we should get the shopping done as soon as possible. Maybe afterwards we can go for ice cream." Alexander told the kids who brightened up.
"Sounds great." Veemon piped up with a grin, Harry took one look at the Digimon and his eyes bulged, and he hid further behind Daisuke. "What did I do?"
"I think he's just shy." Daisuke reassured her partner with a smile. "Don't worry Harry, he doesn't bite. He's a really sweetie." She told the shy boy behind her who looked at her. "Trust me. But for now, let's get our shopping done."
Harry nodded and the boy followed Daisuke off with her parents and Veemon, the first shop they entered was Madam Malkin's Robes for all Occasions. Alexander looked to his wife and smiled. "I think you should go get their books, and to see where Jun has gone off to." He told her.
She nodded and kissed his cheek with a smile and giggled when he winked at her as she left the shop. "Hogwarts dearies?" an old woman asked as she walked over to Harry and Daisuke, both nodded and she smiled. "Come along then, another boy your age is being fitted as well." She told them leading them both through the store and helped them stand on two stools and she began to take their measurements, the measuring tape coming alive and doing the work itself.
Between Daisuke and Harry, on another stool was a young boy their age with sleek platinum blonde hair, cold grey eyes, a pale complexion and sharp, pointed features already having his own robes fitted.
"Hello." Daisuke greeted the boy politely, to which the boy nodded in reply. "You're going to Hogwarts as well?"
"Of course. Mother's getting my books." The boy said. "I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy." He introduced.
"Harry." Harry said with a shy smile as Madam Malkin tugged at his clothes while muttering to herself.
"Daisuke but call me Daisy if ya like." Daisuke replied with a smile.
"Malfoy, you wouldn't be Narcissa's boy by any chance, would you?" Alexander asked, overhearing the children's conversation while he kept a hand on Veemon's head to keep him from causing trouble by accident.
"Yes, what's it to you?" the boy asked with a frown.
"We were old friends back in Hogwarts, we used to study together before she fell for your father. A brilliant young witch back in the day." Alexander answered while Draco looked at the man in surprise. "I trust she's doing well these days?"
"Um...yes sir." Draco said.
"That's good. Tell her Alexander says hi when you see her again." Daisuke's father said with a polite smile and Draco nodded.
"All finished dearies." Madame Malkin told Harry and Daisuke, both who nodded and climbed off the stools.
"See you at school." Harry said to Draco quietly before he walked off with Daisuke and her father and Veemon.
They met Natsumi and Jun outside the book shop, Natsumi holding two stacks of books in her arms before Alexander waved his wand, shrinking the books down so they'd fit in his pocket while Jun placed her own books into a bag on her hip that swallowed the bags easily. "Undetectable extension charm, handy when ya have a lot of things you want to keep in arms reach." She explained seeing her cousin and Harry's surprised expressions.
The group then made a short stop at the apothecary to purchase Daisuke and Harry's cauldrons along with the other items that were on the list by visiting a few other shops around the alley.
As they walked out of another shop, Harry looked down the street and he brightly smiled and waved. "Hagrid." He called and the Ainsworth family looked to see a giant of man with a great big bushy beard, beady black eyes and a large moleskin overcoat walking over to them.
"Alexander, Natsumi, well ain't you both a sight for sore eyes." The giant greeted with a booming laugh while pulling both adults into a hug.
"Ugh…nice to see you too Hagrid." Alexander said with a smile, patting the man on his arm as Hagrid let he and his wife go. "You haven't changed a bit.
"Neither have you, but I'll always remember when you were the shortest student in your year until your last year. I still remember the time I could pick you up and put you in my pocket." The giant said, making Alexander flush and pout.
"That's an over exaggeration and you know it. I was not that short." He stated.
"Yes, you were." Natsumi whispered, giggling at her husband as he kicked a loose pebble childishly as his wife looked at Hagrid. "So, tell me Hagrid, why are you here with Harry to get his school supplies, shouldn't his relatives be doing that?"
At the mention of Harry's relatives, the young boy tensed and held Daisuke's arm while looking around frightfully as Hagrid grumbled. "Ruddy Muggles, I tell ya, they're the worst kind. Told Harry his parents went and died in a car crash they did, and kept him from getting his Hogwarts letter, I had to give it to Harry personally after finding them on an island out at sea."
Alexander and Natsumi shared a small frown. "You didn't do anything to them did you Hagrid?" Alexander asked, a pointed look aimed at the pink umbrella the giant held in his coat.
"Well…" Hagrid trailed off. "Might have turned their pig of a son into an actual pig, at least give him the ears and tail." He muttered; Harry snickered into his hand as did Daisuke.
"Nice." Jun praised the groundskeeper with a grin while her aunt and uncle gave the giant a small disapproving look as he tried to look ashamed, keyword being tried.
"So, ah…" Hagrid said, coughing into his hand before looking down at Daisuke and Harry. "Got everything you need Harry?"
"Just need my wand and to go to the pet shop." Harry said softly.
"Oh, you won't need to go to the pet store." Hagrid said with a small smile, he pulled out from behind his back a cage holding a brilliant snow-white owl with piercing yellow eyes that hooted at Harry whose eyes widened in awe. "Happy birthday." The giant told the young boy who took the cage gently and smiled at the owl.
"Thanks." He said with a grateful smile before looking at the owl again. "Hedwig." He whispered and the owl hooted bobbing its head as if agreeing to the name.
"Well, how about we go and take Daisuke to the pet store while you and Harry go get his wand at Ollivanders." Natsumi said.
"Of course, won't be long." Hagrid said, and Harry smiled, the two walking off to the wand shop nearby as Daisuke followed her parents to the pet store while Veemon held her hand.
"So, what kind of pet do you think you'll get Dai?" her Digimon asked her as they walked into the store. Daisuke shrugged and looked around, there were snakes, rats, toads, cats, some dogs of different breeds, a few owls hooting noisily from their cages. She walked throughout the store before coming to a stop in front of a cage holding a cat.
"Hm, what's your name little guy?" she asked, kneeling in front of the cage, she got a better look at the cat. The cat was a solid black with calm violet eyes which were looking at her inquisitively, she also took notice of the two tails the cat had which were twirling playfully in the air.
"He doesn't have a name, I found him outside as a kitten. Poor dear hasn't found a home yet," the owner of the store said with sadness.
"What sort of cat is he?" Daisuke asked, looking at the woman while Veemon sniffed the cat who tilted its head looking at the Digimon.
"It's a Kaidan Hex Cat, very rare and very mischievous. He's a clever one alright." The store owner told her.
Daisuke nodded as she looked at the cat again, she then smiled and nodded. "I'll take him." She said looking at her parents and Jun.
"As long as it doesn't try to eat Sigma." Jun muttered, purchasing some owl treats for her pet owl along with a new brush.
"I doubt it would do that." Daisuke said, she opened the cage and the cat strutted out with a swish of its tails and began nuzzling against the young girl's cheek making her giggle.
"Thanks, it was getting awfully cramped in that cage." A voice rumbled from the cat making her eyes widen as Veemon jumped in surprise.
"It talked!"
"I believe you meant to say that he talked; I am a male. Thank you very much." The cat said, swatting Veemon in the nose with his tails.
"Huh, I heard Kaidan Hex Cats could talk to their owners, but I never saw it myself." The owner of the store said with an amused expression while Daisuke's parents shared a small smile as they watched their daughter petting her new companion.
"I shall name you Salem." She chirped and the cat raised an eyebrow before shrugging.
"Good enough for me." He replied and soon the family left the store with Salem held in Daisuke's arms with a collar around his neck that was magical so it would never come off and it would let Daisuke find him if he got lost.
"There ya are." The family heard Hagrid call out and saw the giant and Harry walking over to them.
"How did it go?" Daisuke asked Harry, the boy smiling and holding up his new wand. "Oh, that's cool." She said and he beamed brightly.
"Well, we'd best be heading off." Hagrid said, patting Harry on the back.
"Actually Hagrid, would it be alright if Harry stayed with us until the start of term?" Alexander asked the giant who looked at him in surprise, Harry did as well unable to believe what he was hearing.
Hagrid furrowed his brow, thinking about it for a moment. "I don't know. Professor Dumbledore said I was to bring him back to his relatives." He began, seeing Harry flinch. "But I know you won't do him any harm. Besides, it might be nice for Harry to spend time around another kid his age, one who isn't a plump bully." He muttered, mostly to himself.
Harry smiled and hugged the giant of a man who smiled down at the boy and patted his back gently. "He'll be safe with us Hagrid, I promise." Alexander said with a reassuring smile as Harry stood beside Daisuke while holding Hedwig's cage in his hands.
"See you at school Hagrid." Harry said and the giant nodded with a smile.
"Right." He said before checking his pocket watch. "Ah, best be off. Have important Hogwarts business, ya know." He said awkwardly, patting his pocket before walking off down the street.
Alexander smiled before looking at his family and Harry. "Alright, come on everyone back to the pub. It's time to head home."
"Come on Harry, you'll like it at our home." Daisuke chirped to the boy who smiled, and they headed off down the street heading home.
