Chapter 13. A New World

The allies work tirelessly to burn the dead of their enemies and honor the sacrifice of their fallen comrades. Meanwhile the leaders gather together to discuss the future. King Orin stands up, "Before we begin I would like to know where the hero of Alagaesia is…"

It is Blodgharm who answers. Eragon had asked him to represent him at the meeting. "Eragon sends his apologies, but he needs time to himself for personal reasons…"

Many of the gathered leaders express their concerns for the Blue Rider. "My friends we have won a great victory today…" Nausada says starting the meeting, "…at a great cost. Let us honor those who fought with us and sacrificed their lives for this day…"

Plans are made for a new kingdom. Eventually it is decided that Galbatorix's Kingdom will be divided into two smaller kingdoms. Nausada will rule the Kingdom of Urubaen from the city and will include Feinster, Beletona, Dras Leona, and the Helgrind.

Surda will include Aroughs in its domains sense Orin took the city, and that leaves the Northern Kingdom to be ruled from Ceunon. "And who will rule the Kingdom of Ceunon?" Orin asks.

"I would like to discuss that in private with King Orin, Lord Dauthdr, King Orik, and Nar Garzvhog…"

Since his name is mentioned, Nar Garzvhog decides to speak up, "And what of the land promised to my people…"

Nausada looks at him, "Nar Garzvhog I have not forgotten my promise, but a decision cannot be made until the King of the Northern Kingdom is chosen…"

"I shall be patient Lady Nightstalker…"

The meeting drags on as they discuss matters of state, reconstruction, finances, and trade. They break to eat and then finish the meeting by planning a celebration. Eragon stands on the mountain ring that surrounds the old Academy of Vroengard. Saphira is with him. ("Do not despair…We will find a way to break this curse…") She says to Eragon.

("I do not think so…")

("What of the Ancient Dragons? Perhaps they can help us…")

Eragon nods, ("I will ask them…")

("Of, course we can…") The Dragons say after Eragon contacts them mentally. ("But we ask a favor of you…")

("Anything.")

("We were going to ask that after you have reestablished the Dragon Riders and the Wild Dragons that you would travel to distant lands and seek out other Dragons in other lands…")

Eragon didn't want to as part of him wanted to defy Angela's prophecy, but since the Dragons were asking, he decides to agree. During the feast Eragon, made his presence known and mingled, but eventually he left the feast; consumed by his guilt for killing all those people in anger. Shruiken and Glaedr had flown off together after the deaths of their Riders. Glaedr to help Shruiken get over the things he was forced to do by Galbatorix.

Eragon and Saphira are invited to a meeting with Roran. Nausada, Orin, Lord Dauthdr, and Nar Garzvhog are present. "Roran we asked you here to name you King of Ceunon and the Northern Kingdom.

Eragon smiles, "Me! I'm no King…"

"The people of Palancar Valley have royal blood in their veins…All descendants of Palancar the Mad…"

"Not a thing we brag about…" Eragon replies.

"Even so…I can think of no one better to rule the North…" It takes Eragon a few days but, eventually he convinced Roran to say yes.

The day finally came when the allies returned to the mainland. They sail to Narda and to Roran's horror most of the city had been burned down. The Elves use their magic to help rebuild the city for the people, but many are untrusting of the Varden and their allies.

Eragon pours himself into his duties, but his mind is on Arya. He reassures the people of Narda before they move on. Nausada sends Elves and people to the parts of Alagaesia that needs rebuilding while she heads on to Urubaen.
