DAENARYS AND AEGON
PART 1. DAENARYS
At the age of eight Daenarys was showing signs of becoming a great swordswoman having trained to fight with two swords. From the age of six martial arts was introduced to her daily routine. Dany as everyone called her, started her day off by breaking her fast with her numerous Martell relations. There was Princess Elia of course who was like a mother to her. Princes Doran, and Oberyn who were father figures. Princesses Arianne Martell and Rhaenys Targaryen who were like older sisters. Prince Trystane is like a brother. Then there is Oberyn's numerous daughters, Obara, Nymeria, Sarella, Dorea, Obella, Loreza, and Elia.
Oberyn's sons were spread across Dorne doing their own thing. He had one son at the wall serving the Watch and another across the sea following his path. His son Lewin has his own castle and army, a banner lord of House Martell. After her morning meal Dany attends lessons with the Maester learning to be a Princess of House Taragaryen. She studied history, economics, warfare, math, politics, and other subjects that would help her serve her nephew Aegon.
She enjoyed his short visit and looked forward to when she could visit Aegon in the North and see him again. After her lessons she trained with the bow and swords. She is of the same age with Tyene Sand, who prefers fighting with daggers. In skill and speed, the two are evenly matched. Dany is drenched in her own sweat as her fight with her cousin had been going on for an hour now. Both girls have even wins and losses, but on this day Dany is determined to best her cousin.
She is patient with her attacks, as she fights with a sword in each hand. She lunges with her right in a feint then brings her left to bare. Her side attack is blocked, but Dany sticks her leg out and kicks Tyene in the chest knocking her off her feet. She backs off and allows Tyene to stand. Enraged when she gets up, Tyene attacks. They trade blows and in the flurry of action Dany disarms her right hand and places her sword to Tyene's throat.
"You're dead. Yield!" Dany commands with a great amount of satisfaction.
Tyene stares at her for a long time before she speaks. "I yield." Everyone claps as Tyene whispers to Dany.
"Next time we fight I will make you yield."
Dany smiles as she dries herself off with a towel, "I don't think so. This is the part where I surpass you in skill." After taking a bath and resting, Dany gets ready for evening meal. Before leaving her room Dany stops and looks at the torch on the wall. A shiver runs through her body at the thought of the fourth time she used her blood magic to see the future. The first time she saw herself as a woman grown. The second time she saw Dragons reborn into the world because of her nephew Aegon.
The third time she saw the Targaryen conquest of the east. The last time she looked into the fire it scared her. She saw a wall of ice, manned by the men of the watch. In the vision she also saw Wights or the dead marching on the wall. Then she saw him, the Night King. Ever since then Dany has feared to look into the fire and see the future.
In the beginning she would talk with Rhaenys about her fire visions, but stopped. When Rhaenys would ask her about them, she replied that she had seen all she wanted to know of the future. A few months after Aegon left Dany heard her older cousins talking about sex, love, men, and marriage. Her cousin Princess Arianne has eyes for Lord Connor Dayne heir of Starfall and the current Sword of the Morning wielding his late brother's sword.
All their talk made Dany curious, curious enough to use her magic and stare into the future for her husband. Because she had not done it in a while, Dany had to reactivate the Magic by cutting her hand again and dripping it in the fire. It took five days but she was able to accomplish what she wanted. The first man she saw was tall, with a long braid of hair and tattoos over his uncovered chest.
"He was fierce…As if he could take on entire armies by himself." Dany says describing what she saw in the fire.
Rhaenys takes her hand, "I am glad you came to me. But tell me what scared you so much that stopped looking into the fire?"
Dany sighs and takes her hand away. "I am not ready to talk about it."
She nods and rubs her arm, "Know that I am when you are ready."
After talking to Rhaenys, Dany found the curiosity about the man she saw gave her the strength to look into the flames again. She does and sees her wedding to an older man, not the warrior. He wears armor with a bear on it. "The future is always changing based on the decisions we make…" Rhaenys had said to her. "Sometimes we see multiple futures because we haven't made a decision that will lead us to that future."
She decides to go speak with Rhaenys again about, the dead army she saw. "So you saw the Night King…" The two are sitting in Rhaenys' room talking. "Long ago…" Rhaenys tells Cany about Azaor Ahai and Bran the Builder. Then she tells Dany about the Prince that was promised, "…Aegon is the Prince born of Fire and Ice. Only he can bring the Dawn and only he can stop the Night King."
"What if he fails?" She fearfully asks, "You said yourself that the future is set in stone. That it is based on decisions we make. What if Aegon makes the wrong decisions?"
"That is why we must be ready to help him." She replies. The Martells and their allies prepared by stockpiling food and training men and women for war. But with the Queen's treason They could take the Iron Throne by allowing the Baratheons and the Lannisters to destroy one another.
PART 2 AEGON
THREE MONTHS AGO
Aegon stands on the deck of the ship that will take him back North. He had wanted to stay in Dorne with the Martells, but there are things he had to do in the North. As they travel he avoids his Uncle. On the third day of their journey after emerging from his room, his Uncle Eddard Stark is waiting for him. "May I speak with you?"
"No not now. I am angry and will be for some time…When that anger subsides, then we will talk." Ned nods and walks away. As they travel Aegon asks question to the Captain about the ship. He makes notes and then in the privacy of his cabin he makes designs for a new type of ship. After three weeks at sea they finally reach White Harbor, and stay in New Castle for a few days before heading to Winterfell.
It is halfway through their journey that Aegon decides to speak with his Uncle. "Uncle may we talk?"
"Of course."
They walk away from the camp to speak in private. "I understand that you only wanted to protect me. And for that reason and the fact that we are family. I can forgive you."
"Thank you son."
"I must ask…What are your plans for me?"
He sighs, "Well others will see you on the Iron Throne…So I must do all in my power to see it done."
"I can do more if I am thought of as a legitimized bastard than a bastard."
"On your next name day, I will call the Lords of the North to legitimize as Jon Stark."
He nods and they talk about other things before returning to camp. Upon reaching Winterfell, Aegon now assuming the name Jon Snow is greeted by his cousin/half-brother Robb, his four, year old half-sister Sansa, Lady Stark and Theon Greyjoy. Lady Stark is holding baby Arya. He greets them all and is given a new room in the family wing of the Castle. At meals Jon is allowed to sit with the family and eat.
PRESENT
For the past few days Lords and ladies from all over the North attend Jon's name day and legitimization. Even his Uncle's good brother by law attends representing House Tully. Jon is in his room staring into the fire at the Night Watch's past. Their history and true purpose. "Jon!"
Robb calls breaking him out of his trance. "Time to break our fast!"
"Coming!" Jon and Robb head to the main hall together and sit at the high table. Lords Umber, Glover, Cerwyn, Torrhen, and Manderly are among those gathered. Jon is introduced to them and then the food is served. As they eat war stories are told of the Iron Born Rebellion and Robert's rebellion against the Targaryens. As they speak Aegon exchanges looks with his Uncle. After they eat the Lords gather for a hunt in Jon's name.
Aegon breaks away from the group to think on his father, mother and Targaryen relatives. "Are you alright my Prince." Aegon does not look back at the owner of the voice. Howland Reed has always known Jon's true identity.
"Best be careful how you refer to me My Lord…Even out here."
"True words I just wanted to check on you."
"I needed a moment alone to gather myself, come let us return to the hunt." On the first day of the Hunt Lords Roose Bolton and Howland bag deer. Aegon bags the next one on the third day. In all they hunt and kill three dear, a boar, and a large wild turkey. They return to Winterfell to have Jon's name day celebration and to legitimize him.
He receives gifts of clothes, shoes, some toy knights, a new bow and arrow and even a pouch of gold from Lord Manderly. When it is over Ned is in his room with a servant and Lady Catelyn putting away his gifts. "Leave us." Lord Stark commands in the doorway. As Cat is leaving she stops to kiss her husband. "I am sorry you had to endure those stories about your father and the war."
"It doesn't bother me that much…They fought to avenge my Grandfather and Uncle…As for my mother they did not know the truth of her and Rhaegar. But one day we will set everyone strait."
"Aye we will."
"They will follow you Uncle. And through you me, but I have much to learn about being a King."
While the men of the North were present Nedd encouraged them to train more men, stockpile food and weapons. He also encouraged Lord Manderly to start building a fleet of ships. And Nedd meets with Maester Luwin and Jon to make plans to build a city on the Island of Skagos.
It was during the following year that Aegon discovered his ability to warg animals. The first animal he warged was one of the Dogs in the Kennel. He had been told about wargs by Old Nan and even started reading books on the subject. One, night Aegon sits on his bed with his legs crossed trying to use his gift on purpose. The first two weeks he failed, but on the fourth day of the third week he is able to perform the magic and warg the dog. He rests a few days before trying again and this time he wargs a bird. "Uncle I must show you something." When they are alone Aegon calls him Uncle.
"Yes what is it?" They go to the godswood, "Jon what are you doing?" Ned had heard the stories growing up in Winterfell about Wargs, but he never thought his nephew would be one. He watches as his eyes turn white and a bird flies down and lands on his outstretched arm. Jon had asked him to stretch his arm before going into the trance. He stares into the birds eyes and sees his nephew staring back.
"As a Warg I can spy on people through their animals." In his excitement Aegon fails to notice the fear on his Uncle's face.
Ned kneels down in front of Jon and grabs him by the arm, "Jon…Promise me that you will never use this on a person."
He looks at his father figure and frowns, "Father…I would never." He says placing his hand on his shoulders. From that point on whenever the two spoke of serious things Ned referred to Aegon as Jon or son and he referred to his Uncle as Father. As Jon and Lady Stark the two of them developed a slow relationship. As time passes Jon finds her to be very intelligent in politics and affairs of the realm. She was her father's favorite child and Hoster Tully saw that Catelyn was well educated.
