Chapter 19: Fugitive

After a brief call to Gosei, the rangers teleported themselves and Sky into the Command Center. Sky eyed the rows and rows of ranger keys, impressed by the collection.

Gosei teleported in, bowing in respect.

"Welcome, Sky Tate. It is an honor to have a fellow ranger in these chambers. I am Gosei, mentor of The Megaforce Rangers."

"An honor to meet you, but I'm afraid this isn't a courtesy call. I'm here on official business."

Walking into the center of the room, he set down a virtual projector and started it up. A holo-screen popped up, displaying various scenes of the SPD Rangers in action.

"I come from the year 2033, where humans and aliens coexist on in relative peace. But to protect all life in the galaxy, SPD was formed. In the year 2025, my fellow rangers and I of Earth's B Squad were the last line of defense against The Troobian Empire, led by the malicious Emperor Grumm in their goal to conquer the known universe. After many hard battles, we were victorious, hoping to be able to return to peace. But although their emperor was defeated, the remnants would not back down. Over the last eight years, my team and I have tracked down the remaining generals and commanders, putting them back behind bars where they belonged. All except for one."

The screens then changed to Cybax and his crimes.

"Cybax, wanted in 10 systems for charges of illegal weapons trafficking, grand theft, and sabotage. Our records indicate he was very high up in the chain of command, only below Grumm and his inner circle. Despite our best efforts, he has evaded us for the better part of a year, until last night where we managed to corner him in a warehouse. But unbeknownst to us, he had stolen experimental technology from one of our labs, and managed to escape. We managed to track him to this time in this city, and that's where our stories meet up."

The teens nodded, taking it all in. Just then, Noah had a thought.

"Wait, how did you follow him back in time? If he took the only working time machine..."

"Working, yes, but not the only one. Our head scientist Kat has been experimenting with the idea of time travel, but hasn't been able to make it widely useable. I have 48 hours until I'll be forcefully returned back to my time through the morphing grid, so I need to work fast."

Troy stepped forward, offering a handshake.

"Well, we're happy to help in anyway we can. Right, guys?"

"Right!"

Sky smiled, happy to see that they were so invested in protecting Earth.

"Good to know, because I feel like I'm going to need your help. If I know Cybax, and I do, he'll be going to whoever sent those robots for protection, and if they're anything like Grumm I'm in trouble."

"Alright, so what's the plan? Go charging in, stakeout, high speed chase!"

Gia rolled her eyes, slapping Jake upside the head.

"Jake!"

"What? I watch a lot of heist movies."

"First we need to find him. That's where these come in."

Reaching into his bag, he gave them each five fairly small energy trackers, about the size and shape of a cell phone.

"The weapons Cybax stole give off high energy readings, too high for your technology to be able to pick up. As soon as he starts to arm them, we'll know. Until then, we'll need to keep an eye out. Cybax is a master of disguise, but something small will give him away, be it a small abnormality in the appearance or an unusual quirk. Keep an eye out for anything suspicious, and report back immediately if you need help."

"Got it. Don't worry Sky, we'll get this guy."

"Thank you. Come on rangers, lets move out!"

Gosei watched them teleport out, slightly worried.

"Be careful, rangers, and may the power protect you."
