MANCE RAYDER
Mance Rayder was found as a baby by a man of the Night's Watch. He was raised in Mole's Town near Castle Black and became a brother of the Watch. Eventually Mance learns the truth from an old woman and leaves the Night's Watch. He joins his Clan, marries, and eventually becomes the Elder of Clan Black Smoke. A few years later Mance receives a vision from the three eyed Raven and in the vision he learns the old tongue and is showed the Night King.
Mance Rayder was not the first man to be called the King Beyond the wall, but with the Giants at his side he is able to bring all 100 clans of the Free Folk together to fight as one. His quest started ten years ago, gathering the Free Folk at Hard Home. The only city beyond the wall. The city had to be expanded to accommodate all one hundred clans.
The Free Folk had been gathering supplies for the march south to the wall. Mance is with Tormund Giant's Bane, his most trusted ally and friend, the Elders Karsi, Redbeard, and Delba going over the supplies. "Soon we will have enough for the march south."
"Mance!" The man called Six Skins yells running towards them.
"Six Skins…What is it?"
"I got a message from a Warg below the wall…Says his name is Jon Stark and Aegon Targaryen…He spoke to me through my animals…He says he is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne and that all the Northern Lords below the wall wish to make peace with us…The Crows also and they want to grant you a pardon."
They just stare at him for a few seconds, "He's gone mad." Tormund says.
"I ain't mad ya big red oaf…He spoke to me…I swear by the Old gods."
Mance sighs, "Is it possible for Wargs to communicate with each other like that?"
"Well yes…But this boy is different. More powerful somehow."
"Did he say anything else."
"Uh…Oh yeah almost forgot…The boy is coming here with his Uncle Ed Stark or something."
"Eddard Stark…"
Six Skins nods, "That's him! Um…Mormont is coming as well. By ship…They'll be here in two week's time."
That night the Three eyed Raven tells Mance to prepare the Free Folk for the Prince's arrival through his dreams. So the next morning he informs the Elders. Many of them like Rattleshirt or the Lord of Bones as they call him, Raymen, and Delba do not trust Six Skin's words. But the Giant Mag Mar says he believes the message and everyone else agrees to treat the visitors as guests so long as they act respectful.
As promised a ship appears, drops anchor and a row boat brings Aegon, Eddard Stark, Jeor Mormont, and Elia ashore. "We were told about Mormont, Stark and the boy…Who is the woman?" Tormund demands.
"My name is Elia Targaryen of Dorne…"
"She was told I just forgot." Six Skins says speaking up.
"You are Tormund Giant's Bane…" Aegon says speaking, "Named so because you kill a Giant and its mate mistook you for one of her offspring and suckled you…"
"Yeah that's right…What are you boy a Wizard?"
"You are the Lord of Bones…Called so because you take the bones of your enemies and wear them as a shirt…And you are Mance Rayder the King Beyond the Wall. You are King because you have earned the respect of the Free Folk Clans."
"Aye that be true…Come be our guests."
They are led through the village to the main hut where the rest of the Elders are gathered. Food is served and introductions made. "The Lords of the North and the men of the Watch wish to make peace with the Free Folk…We will allow you to come south of the wall for protection. All we ask is help to fight the Night King and his army when the time comes." Ned says addressing those gathered.
"What else do you want?" Magnar of the Thenns asks.
"Nothing…but your cooperation." Jeor replies, "Trust must be earned by both sides."
"You speak of trust! What of Mance…Six Skins said that he would be forgiven."
"Yes…I have a document here. Signed by myself and Lord Stark." Jeor says handing Mance the paper. Mance unrolls the paper and reads in silence.
"How soon can we start moving our people."
"It would be safer to travel by ship." Eddard says. "We have enough to bring everyone."
"Will these ships hold the Giant's and their Mammoths?" Karsi asks.
"They will." Ned confidently replies. "The fleet will sail everyone to Eastwatch by the Sea…From their you travel by land to the Gift…After the woman, children, and old are settled those who can fight will man some of the castles on the wall." They talk for hours ironing out the details, then a feast is held to celebrate the new alliance. The next day Aegon and his party return to their ship and sails back to Eastwatch.
A week later five hundred ships on loan from Pentos curtesy of Ilyrio Mopatis arrives to take the Free Folk south. First the women, children, and elderly are loaded, then the Mammoths, Giants and all the rest. The Free Folk insist that all ships leave at the same time. Once they are loaded they set sail for Eastwatch.
When the ships arrive Aegon, Eddard, Mormont, and Elia are waiting for them. The ships are unloaded of people and supplies. The men of the watch are overwhelmed at the sight of the Giants and their mounts. Men from the Night's Watch acted as guides to lead and guards to keep Folk from wondering from the main group. Aegon and his party stayed for a few days to make sure everything continued smoothly before leaving for Winterfell.
