Hello ladies and gents, no this is not another chapter, this fic has definitely ended, however, I have exciting news. Next month marks the 10th anniversary since I posted the last chapter of this fic *fireworks* It's officially TEN YEARS OLD! So, as an anniversary, I am going to completely reboot the whole fic, that's right, I'm going to rewrite the whole story. This fic is not only the first one I ever finished, it is also one of my most well-loved, I felt it only natural.
I can't tell you when the first chapter will be out, hopefully soon, but it will happen. I was sixteen when I started writing this story and seventeen when I finished it. So I was a teenager and fledgling writer at the time. I am now in my late 20s and, hopefully, can make this story even better, written through the eyes and experience of an adult rather than a teenager.
So wish me luck everyone.
And, in the interest of making this post not just an author's note, I have also included a sneak peak into the sequel (Entering the Family Business) I never actually updated past the prologue. I'm going to, after the reboot of course, dive back into the sequel in the hopes of making it up to all the readers who really wanted it.
Here you go:
Mai and Naru were inside the study, it was late and the children were already in bed. The couple had made sure they were asleep themselves, because they were about to have a discussion they did not want overheard by their overeager children. "I'm not sure about this Naru, if this case turns out to be dangerous, I don't.."
"Mai," he quietly cuts in, his tone cold, but his eyes tender, "I know you don't want anything to happen to them, neither do I. However, I fully believe the twins to be ready for this."
"I don't doubt their readiness, Naru, that isn't the issue here," she hesitates before continuing, "but, I'm their mother, I can't help but worry about their safety."
"And I'm their father, the last thing I want is any harm to befall our children," he says, moving to wrap his arms around her, "but if you remember correctly, you were their age when you first joined SPR. Actually, if I remember correctly, which I do, you had yet to have your sixteenth birthday, they have."
"I know," she sighs, leaning her head against his chest, "I'm going to worry anyway."
"I will too, Mai," he admits, his breath tickling the hair on the top of her head, "but we'll be there to make sure nothing happens to them. That's part of out job as their parents."
"I know you're right, but I'm thankful that at least Akira will not be going, thirteen is definitely too young."
This causes him to chuckle, "I'm honestly pretty sure Akira doesn't even want to be a paranormal investigator."
"Huh, and I'm honestly pretty sure that you're right about that," she laughs, her arms now around his waist. Her tone changes, "Just promise me, that our children come out of this case alive."
He pulls her away enough to look into her eyes, "I promise."
She sends him her heartwarming smile before she leans up expectantly. He is all too willing to lean down and accept the kiss she was offering.
