Disturbances
Fouquet was currently trying to get herself to sleep, but just the thought that she possibly doomed Tiffania kept her awake, and the fact that the cell wasn't exactly the most comfortable place didn't help either.
A couple of minutes later, she heard footsteps going through the hallway, and stopping just outside her cell, whoever it was it was wearing a mask and a cloak so she couldn't recognize him.
„I didn't expect visitors this late...What do I owe his pleasure to" she said trying to sound calm, there was a possibility that was an assassin from one of the angry nobles she stole from.
„What do you want from me, are you here to kill me!?"
She wasn't planning on dying tonight, so she prepared to fight the figure even if she will most likely lose without her magic, but even death will be a mercy compared to meeting that demonic creature.
The cloaked figure slowly turned to her and spoke, letting its wand be seen giving the figure away as a mage.
„Are you Fouquet of the crumbling dirt?"
The voice sounded young and powerful.
Fouquet was being cautious now.
„And who is asking? I'm warning you I won't go down without a fight"
The figure put away its wand and showed both of its hands signaling that it wasn't hostile to her, ... for now.
„I want to speak to you!, I'm not your enemy just yet Lady Matilda," Said the figure.
Fouquet was very surprised by this, there shouldn't be many who knew that name.
„Talk then, I don't have much choice anyway."
The figure seemed taken back for a second and then it spoke.
„Matilda, do you wish to serve Albion once again!?"
Now, this was surprising and insulting, my family was murdered by Albion what made this man think I would wish to serve them again, Matilda thought.
With any tone, she replied, "HOW DARE YOU, my family, my home everything was destroyed by them, HOW CAN YOU EVEN ASK something like that."
The figure didn't seem startled by this display of anger, but it just replied.
„Who said you will be serving royals?"
Now, this was very confusing for Matilda, so she decided to ask the figure.
„Then who will I serve?"
„You might not know, but there is a revolution taking place the moment as we speak, we need capable mages to replace fools of old royals."
This offer was actually acceptable to her but, what if that creature comes after them, no she couldn't think like that, she couldn't protect Tiffania if she remains stuck in prison and she will probably be executed or exiled at best.
„We are nobles, that wish to unify all kingdoms, only then we will be able to reclaim the holy land of the founder"
Matilda thought this was extremely foolish, there was no way someone could unify all kingdoms, it seemed like an idealistic dream that could never be, especially now when she found out about the existence of terrible demons.
„That seems... Impossible! You haven't seen what I did, a terrible being...!"
She stopped herself out of fear she could accidentally summon it here.
„I have no interest in this foolish quest!"
The cloaked figure withdrew its wand from its cloak and pointed it at Matilda.
„You have a choice, join us or die here"
Matilda chuckled
„So I never had a choice"
Matilda wasn't actually surprised, of course, there wasn't a choice there never is.
„I will join you but I'm warning you, there are some beings I will never fight for you"
A small chuckle could be heard from the figure as it put away its wand.
„Welcome to the right side of history, Matilda!"
As the man was unlocking her cell she nervously asked
„And what is the name of my new organization"
As the man unlocked the door he replied
„Reconquista, let us unite the kingdoms and retake holy land as comrades!"
After that exchange, they departed from prison.
In the unknown location, the flying island of Albion
Some Reconquista soldiers could be seen fighting, while from a distance they might seem like they were fighting other humans, they were actually fighting living skeletons and zombies.
The elderly commander of this particular unit was stuck with the responsibility to deal with them, but no one has ever seen anything like this, living skeletons appearing from the ground, zombies rising from the graves, and fallen soldiers attacking their fellows.
„This is not natural!"
„Founder save us!"
„What are these things?!"
And various screams of soldiers being killed could be heard all across this battlefield.
In the office of the commanding officer two figures could be seen while the office looked like it would fall apart it didn't matter, the meeting was between Mind of God also known as Sheffield to Reconquista, and Commander of this unit.
Commander immediately asked her about these things they are fighting, but she herself couldn't really answer, but she had a theory.
„It seems that these creatures are slipping through cracks of reality...they seem almost like they are being somehow controlled"
Commander retorted with his coarse voice while trying to hide his fear
„These things killed more of my men than any soldier we fought until now, every wave takes more and more of my men, while the loss of commoners is acceptable, my unit lost 20 mages by now."
Commander looked into the woman's eyes and asked
„Isn't there anything we can do to stop this"
The woman shook her head"For now the only thing we can do is guard the cracks so these abominations don't cross into populated areas."
Commander sunk into one of the two wooden chairs that were present there and put both of his palms on his head.
„If they seem controlled, can't we find their leader and eliminate him"
„There is a real danger that these undead might rampage without their commander" the woman responded.
„Can we at least get some reinforcements, what the hell is Cromwell doing about this!"
Sheffield couldn't tell the man that Cromwell doesn't even know about these disturbances and that only present units know about them, but she tried to come up with an excuse.
„Most of our army is busy preparing for the invasion of Tristain and breaking of royal resistance"
„I see..."
After the meeting, Sheffield slowly exited the office leaving a half-broken man behind.
Sheffield met with her king last night and she explained everything that was going on, after all, he was one of the void mages that she would need to mend these cracks, but what about the rest of the void mages, she wondered.
„I will have to lure them out and get them to help, failure isn't an option, I cant serve my king if everything is dead after all."
Back in Tristain
Louise was getting ready to meet her childhood friend and most importantly the ruler of Tristain, this was a great honor for her, or anyone else, but for her being rewarded by her friend was the highest honor one could have.
„Wouldnt you agree, Siesta?"
The maid who was helping her get ready was no one else than her new friend Siesta, who just nodded her head.
„I agree lady Louise"
She tried her hardest to act professionally, but she wasn't doing a very good job, she herself was very nervous ever since she was assigned as personal maid to lady Louise.
„Loosen up you two! Aren't we all friends here" Could be heard from the corner of the room from a very expensive-looking sword named Derfilinger.
While the staff was just floating being oddly quiet.
Louise replied"HOW do you expect me to loosen up, this is the greatest honor one could have"
She had an angry expression on her face, as she turned to the sword.
„Slowly there, Pinky I didn't do anything"
„Well I think I'm ready anyway, we shouldn't keep the princess waiting!"
She knew she was supposed to go to the capital but with the power of staff, the trip should take a second at most.
In the next moment, a swirling black portal opened, and Louise slowly entered leaving Derf and Siesta behind.
Capital of Tristain
In the next moment, Louise found herself in front of the castle gate.
„Here we are."
Louise was wondering why the staff wasn't talking, but she knew better than to question it.
She slowly started walking towards the gate with staff in her hand and got stopped by two guards.
„HALT, who goes!"
„My name is Louise Valliere! I am here to meet with my friend and princess of Tristain, Henrietta"
Two guards who were expecting her to arrive turned to each other and nodded, one of them went up the tower and opened the gate, and let her pass without any difficulty.
She slowly walked through the hallways she knew well, she slowly walked towards the throne room where her friend was waiting for her.
When she entered she slowly walked towards Henrietta and knelt out of respect, she was alone in the throne room with the princess which was unusual there should at least be some guards always present.
Henrietta immediately stood up from the throne and in a carefree tone said: "Rise, Louise, you are my friend, you don't need to be soo formal with me when we are alone."
Louise responded"I have to show proper respect to the ruler of this nation"
She raised her head with both her eyes open towards Henrietta.
She took a second before realizing that she revealed her crimson eye to her friend, and closed it.
„Don't worry Louise, you don't have to hide your eye, you are a hero, "She said in a calm tone
After those words, Louise seemed much more relaxed
„Thank you your majesty" she bowed elegantly
„Even if I called you to thank you for your deed of capturing Fouquet"
Henrietta bowed her head"But before anything, I must ask you for another favor, I will understand if you refuse"
With a surprised look on her face, Louise replied"I will do anything you need me to do!"
One might consider that eye a battle scar, or even a start of the transformation into something greater than herself.
