Chapter 9- Where things start to escalate.
When I first wrote this, all the words and writing style came out wrong and just was awful. That's what happens when you switch between two fics. Oh well, in the end I rewrote it until I thought it was up to par. Hope you enjoy.
Thanks to all those to favorite/follow/review this story. I love y'all~
Oh! And special note to daughterofhades, who had by far written me the most review, the last word in this chapter is one you'll find you like. A lot. But don't skip ahead to that word otherwise it'll be some sort of spoiler. Muahahaha, drop me an review when you finish. That goes to all of you *pointed look at whoever is reading this*.
Legilimency will be bolded plus italicized
Charmspeak would just be italicized
Teddy's POV
"Ow.." I grimaced, having stepped on something sharp.
It was Saturday, Harry, Hermione, Ron, Draco, Audria, Percy, and Bill (promoted after the war as head of curse-breaking department) had left twenty minutes ago for the ministry convention. They had to travel by car since the fireplace in the house isn't connected to the floo entrance.
Ginny, George, Fleur, and Angelina was left in charge. Hermione had transfigured all the adult's wand back just in case. I shuddered at what that could mean.
Uncle George saluted Aunt Hermione like a muggle military soldier, saying he will strictly follow the rules. No one really believed him.
It was aunt Ginny's idea to spend the day by the beach. The weather was nice, the sun is shining, and the water temperature just right for swimming. Aunt Angelina had looked apprehensive, saying something so perfect would most certainly result in disaster later. But James and his goonies had already dashed out (last one there would have to wash dishes) so there really wasn't anything they could do. Uncle George magicked a couple picnic blankets and beach umbrellas onto the stretch of smooth sand while his sister teased him about breaking the no-magic rule so soon.
Soon everyone was enjoying their time on the beach.
"Teddy." I heard my name being called so I turned to face Reagan.
"What?"
"Do you know how such a nice day like this should be spent?"
"..no?"
"Sleep. There is nothing better than sleeping on the beach, under the sun. Wake me up for lunch." With that she laid back onto the warm sand and pulled a baseball cap over her face. Victoire stifled a giggle at the dark haired girl's ridiculousness.
RAB's nap was cut short by James, Fred, Louis, and Hugo rushing over in their speedos (spell courtesy of Aunt Ginny), still dripping wet from their swim, each holding a bucket of water.
"One, two, three..." Louis whispered, and at the same time four buckets of water was poured on Reagan, who was not at all pleased to be waken up in such way. I coughed to prevent laughing out loud. Experience told the 'Marauders' knew it was time to run, Louis had to come back to drag a giggling Hugo, who was deliriously happy that the older boys had included him in their pranks, away from what would've been the end of them.
Reagan narrowed her eyes and looked around her, knowing fully well that she couldn't catch up due to their head start. Instead her eyes fell on the wet, soggy sand around her, the result of the boy's prank. A mischievous smile grew on her face. That couldn't be good. I pulled Victoire, who was beside herself with laughter, away from Reagan.
When RAB was set on getting revenge, its always best to stay as far away as possible.
I watched as Reagan dug out a handful of the wet sand and started shaping it into a ball. She repeated the procedure several times. Oh, so that's what she's gonna do. I looked around for cover and dragged Vicky behind Uncle George. He'll have to do. That and I know he wouldn't resist fighting back if the attack do come this way.
"SAND BALL FIGHT!" She launched the balls at James but ended up hitting Louis in the face. One down three to go. More balls of sand were thrown, exploding on impact and spraying wet sand everywhere. Being out in the open, James and the other boys had no cover and was repeatedly hit with balls of sand. By now they retreated to the water and started shaping sand balls of their own.
"Help me Lupin! Live up to your father's name as a Marauder!" Reagan yelled at me. I reluctantly crawledout from my hiding place, afraid that she would dump a bucket of wet sand on my head if I didn't. I wouldn't put it past her.
Two face full of sand later, the fight was over.
We came out victorious.
Victoire came out of her hiding spot and Aunt Fleur disabled the shielding charm. Uncle George was kind enough to cast a bouncing spell on the shield, making all stray sand balls fly back to the thrower.
His second gift was a white flag that planted itself next to the heap of defeated boys on the ground.
"Oi, Potter!" Reagan shouted with her hand cupping her mouth to amplify the sound.
"What?" James for once looked defeated as he rubbed the sand out of his eyes.
"You as losers would have to face the punishment. I dare you to go hug the girls." Reagan pointed to Rose, Molly, Roxanne, and Dominique, who was off collecting sea glass or whatever girls do these days. At this, Fred and Louis perked up, exchanged a look with James before dashing off, Hugo trailing not to far behind.
"Your Sirius side is showing." I told her. She looked at me and cocked an eyebrow.
"I always mean business."
"Not that 'serious'." I muttered, knowing fully well that she was aware but couldn't pass up the chance to make a 'Sirius' pun. A couple shrieks in the distance told us what the girls thought of Reagan's dare.
"Getting even is energy draining. I'm hungry."
"You always are." I pointed out and earned myself a glare.
"Luckily it's lunch time." Aunt Ginny cut in before Reagan could contemplate shoving my head into the sand.
Near by, three picnic tables were laden with sandwiches, pumpkin juice, and salads. Aunt Angelina was casting a spell that keeps out the wind and stops the flecks of sand from getting on the food. That energy proved to be wasted when four humanoids coated head to toe in sand rushed over. I can safely assume that it's James, Fred, Louis, and Hugo.
"LUNCH TIME!" Uncle George called out and immediately the girls headed over. The attraction of food to all people is undeniable.
Aunt Ginny looked around. "James, where are your siblings?" Said boy stopped shoveling food into his mouth and looked around.
"Lucy isn't here either." Molly noticed worriedly.
"The fact that no one is worried about Scorpious is insulting." Reagan stated.
"He's a Malfoy." James said as if that explains everything.
"And I'm a Black." Reagan growled.
"It's not time for this! Where do you think they are?" Aunt Ginny looked around, as if they'll magically show up if she looked hard enough.
"I think they're in the woods. Al said he think he saw something and wanted to investigate. Luce and Lil followed him and Scorpious." Rose piped up.
Reagan visibly tensed. "The...woods?"
"I'll go get them." Dominique volunteered.
Ten minutes and she still haven't came back. Everyone is starting to worry.
"Vat do you think happened? Do you think they are lost?" Aunt Fleur asked. As if answering her question, a bloodcurdling scream was heard in the distance followed by several piercing howls.
Everybody leapt up tense. "Dominique..." Victoire whimpered.
The adults drew their wands. "Stay here, don't move." Aunt Angelina commanded. The adults took off running towards where the sound came from. Reagan wasn't one for following rules, she ran after them, hand wrapped around her silver charm necklace. James also made his way to the woods, determined to protect his younger siblings, albeit slower because of all the sand on him.
"Molly, you're in charge. Don't move no matter what. I'm going after James." I appointed the red headed girl, seeing how she was the second oldest with me and Reagan gone. Vicky didn't look like she was in any right state of mind to keep track of anyone.
Angelina's POV
We found them in a clearing surrounded by trees. Scorpious was clutching Albus's hand like a lifeline. Lucy and Lily were huddled together in the corner with Dominique hugging them from the front as if shielding them. Ginny ran over and fell to her knees, hugging her kids. I wouldn't know what I would've done if Roxanne or Fred was missing.
Fleur was rapidly speaking to Dominique in French, asking her if she was okay. George and I made sure there was no injuries.
Everything was clear, all of them were unharmed, but they still looked like they saw a ghost (not a rather good description since their were ghosts everywhere at Hogwarts, but you catch my drift). Finally Dominique raised one shaky hand and pointed at something behind us. I heard a low growl and spun around, coming face to face with a..a...
Actually I'm not sure what that is. It was black and looked like a giant, mutated dog with razor sharp fangs and claws. It looks sort of like an oversized grim. Shaggy, black hair matted its body and saliva dripped off his teeth, which was bared threateningly. It seemed to melt within the shadow, the only reason we hadn't noticed it before. Doing a head count, I realized there was three in all.
Surprisingly, George was the first to react. Even though he was always easygoing and spend a lot of his time messing around, he could be serious when he wanted to.
"Depulso!"
There was a beam of gold light. The spell seemed to have no use on the grim-like creatures but the light did make it back off a little. And have the three monster's attention on George.
It also made Ginny and Fleur snap back to the present and held up their wands.
"Bombarda Maxima!"
"Sectemsempra!"
"Diffindo!"
Spells were cast, beams of lights were everywhere, but they seemed to have no effects on the creatures.
"HEY UGLY! OVER HERE!" A voice yelled through the clearing. I squinted and saw Reagan standing at the other end of the clearing.
"I thought I told you all to stay!" I yelled as James burst through he clearing with Teddy behind him. Stupid Gryffindor courage. They had definitely captured the three beast's attention.
"Woah!" Was James' reaction. Teddy pulled him farther back, away out of harm's way, before yelling at Reagan to move. She didn't, instead choosing to press something dangling on her neck. A moment later a shiny belt appeared around her waist. How is that supposed to help her?
"It's knives. Dozens of them around her waist." George answered as if reading my mind.
Instead of arguing, I quickly used this time Reagan earned us to cast some protection charms. George and Ginny quickly copied me while Fleur transformed the children's phones back into wands so that they'll have a way to protect themselves if it comes to that.
Reagan's POV
Hellhounds.
Cursed them.
Why now, why here, why in front of them.
My cover is so blown. I'll have to obliviate them later, convince them that as long as they lived, Reagan Andromeda Black never existed. Otherwise...the magic world had never crossed path with the demigod world for a reason. The consequences of tempting fate is never good.
I'll think about what to do afterwards. Right now my priority is killing those blasted things. Ruining everything the one time I spent a summer to relax- no prophecy, no war, no monsters. Now it's all gone.
I drew two throw knives out of my belt. Aphrodite's children weren't made for battle. They can charm, or control, people through their voice or physical appearances. Usually they team up with other demigods who is made for hand to hand combat. Distract your enemies while your teammate killed them. And when Aphrodite's children do fight, they used knives. It's an unspoken rule. Knives are small, easy to hide, hard to detect. Without a visible weapon, your enemies drop their guard, making it easier for them to get 'charmed'. Once they're in that dazed state, it'll be easy to finish them off.
Even so, I preferred throw knives, a long distanced weapon just like wands. Why attack your enemies close up and risk getting injured when you can do it twenty feet away?
Teddy, take James away. Join the others across the clearing if you must. It's not safe here.
I steadied my hand, taking comfort in the leather handle. The three hellhounds were arranged in a semicircle, leaving no place to go except back. Which is what I'll do. Gods, I wish I had my wand.
The first hellhound leapt at me, teeth bared.
"FREEZE! DON'T MOVE!" Monsters were much harder to charmspeak than humans. It only worked for a second, the monster pausing slightly and hesitated once his feet were back on the ground.
Enough time for me to roll backwards and chuck the knives. One knife lodged itself in its forearm while the other sank into the bridge of its nose, right between the two eyes. The hellhound growled in frustration, all signs of hesitation gone. But the knives had done its job, while it didn't kill the monster straight away, it did cause injury and a limp. Instead of blood, yellow sand spilled out slowly.
It charged forward and swiped at me. I ducked and instead of moving backwards, I rolled forward, holding a knife like a dagger and stabbed it into its side. It howled in pain as I pulled the knife out and stabbed it again, up to hilt.
It exploded in yellow sand. One down, two to go.
Remember Silena. And Beckendorf. And all those who died in the war.
The thought of that filled me with energy as I charged towards the other to hounds. One disappeared into the shadows and the other bounded forward.
"TRIP!"
The hound stumbled, buying me enough time to roll underneath, definitely not something I wanted to do again, and stabbed it in the place where the sun doesn't shine. You're not having baby hellhounds anytime soon. The pain made the hellhound sit back down whimpering. Aw c'mon, really? My legs were stuck.
I tried to wiggle out by hellhounds weigh a lot.
Something hit me on the head. "Ow, who the f-" I looked up and saw a wand next to me. Thank you Teddy, may the gods bless you.
Unfortunately it had rolled away. I lie down on the ground, ignored how muddying was, and stretched my hand as far as it can go. Finally I wrapped a finger around it and pointed it at the hellhound.
"Incendio!" Fire emitted from the tip of my wand, burning the hound as I crawled away. I murmured a transfiguration spell taught in our fourth year as the branches and grass on the ground morphed into a rope. I was just about to tie the hellhound together when a sudden force slammed into my back, sending me sprawling. Then next thing that hit me was the sharp pain on my shoulder blades. And this is what you get when you don't look at the whole picture. Something wet trickled down my back. Probably blood.
Three more knives were chucked and the second hound exploded.
I stood up slowly, fighting off the nauseousness as I face the last hound. I was only running on adrenaline by then, all my energy used up. Using Wingardium Leviosa, I used the previously charmed rope to tie the last hellhound's maw together.
"Don't resist, I'm going to make it fast and painless for you."
For a second it didn't move, and I charged forward, drawing out three knives and stabbed it into its neck. It exploded into dust.
My legs feels like deadweight, making me collapse onto the ground. Wiping their memories can come later.
"Watch out!" I heard several voices shout at me. With great difficulty, I turned around just in time to see the yellow sand of the first hellhound swirling together until it stood in front of me as good as new. The other two piles of sand were also swirling up.
"Aguamenti!" A spell from Ginny scattered the sand, stopping them from reforming. But the harm was done, one angry hellhound was standing in front of me. A quick pat of my belt told me I was out of knives and no amount of spells can kill it. Fuck, just a little further was half blood hill. Ironically this reminded me a little of Thalia's fate. Maybe my mom would turn me into a rose bush.
So this is it, I'm done for. Goodbye world.
The gods must've heard my prayer because three golden arrows protruded from the hellhound's side as it exploded into sand. Again. In the past twenty minutes. That must've sucked. Also it coated me in more sand James had on him after our sand ball fight.
But it doesn't make sense. Monster can't reform in such a short time. They usually wait a year or so in Tartarus. I kicked the sand away to stop it reforming again before looking up to see my savior.
"Jennifer?"
