Read, Review, & Enjoy!
On Sabaody Archipelago, news reporters were jotting down every vital detail they thought would be significant. So far, the most striking new pieces were that the Pirate King had an heir and that the most wanted man in the world had one too. Of course, the report about the escaped convicts of Impel Down would be of interest as well. The battle was becoming intense, and the show of power was beyond imagination.
And things looked to be taking a turn as Silvers Rayleigh, the "Dark King," had officially joined the fight to protect Monkey D. Luffy. The big shots were beginning to make their moves and shifting the tide. All attention was on the monitors to see what would happen next.
But then, one of the screens went black. The crowd of reporters was shocked but turned to the other screens. Like the first, each of the remaining monitors cut their image one after the other until all were black. Disappointment, confusion, and outrage spread through the journalists as they demanded answers from the few posted Marine soldiers around. Many of them seemed just as confused or, at least, were pretending to not understand. A ruse that no one bought and thus, pressured further for answers.
Some had an idea what was going on. Hiding out of sight, the Super Rookies felt that their show was over and began to move out. It was a bummer to lose such a cozy, but they had other options, ones most normal people would not take.
Then, suddenly, one of the screens turned on. It showed an image of white brick, but a voice began to speak.
"Hello? Mama? Hello? It's me, Mika!"
Everyone brought their attention to the single screen. Even the Supernovas stopped to see what was happening. The voice sounded like a little girl, but no one believed that there would be someone so young near a warzone like Marineford. Unfortunately, as the Cameko snail's vision shifted by the speaker, confusion and shock overcame the viewers. Now fully seen was a little girl with short, dark orange hair and wide dark brown eyes full of confusion directed at the snail. It soon turned to frustration.
"Hey! Why won't you call Mama? I wanna call Mama!"
It was apparent to everyone that the young girl had no idea what she was holding, but another question also rose. If this little girl – who should not be at Marineford – got her hands on one of the Transponder Snails broadcasting the war, what was happening with it right now?
Suddenly, the girl gave out a surprise shout as she fell over with the Cameko snail. The image now showed a clearer idea of the location as it partially showed Marineford Town. Still, there was more going on than that. It was like the entirety of the island was titling up and then down like a seesaw. A moment later, everything on the screen settled, and everyone watching wondered what had happened.
"What was that?!" A shout from the girl showed that she was okay though befuddled by the event.
The image began shifting as the girl picked up the Cameko snail. Apparently, the child had gained an attachment to the gastropod despite not being the kind she required. She turned and approached a wall that she placed the snail on facing the battlefield. Every reporter focused intently on the screen as they judged how the battle was going.
PART 3
"We Interrupt this Program..."
It had only been a few minutes when Sengoku officially requested the video Transponder Snails to cease their broadcast. Still, everything was already going horribly for the Marines. No sooner had Rayleigh joined the fight, Whitebeard entered the fray himself. With their captain and father-figure now joining the battle, the pirates' vigor grew, and they pushed forward more formidable than before. By this time, the Marines' secret weapons, the human-cyborg Pacifistas, arrived with Sentomaru to round their enemies into the bay. Unfortunately, the plan had not gone off as smoothly as the pirates spread through several small breaches onto the island. However, it was fortunate that the more powerful fighters – many of whom Devil Fruit users – were still in the cove. More so, the defensive walls were now entirely raised sans one section. The time to strike was now.
"Akainu…" spoke Sengoku lowly.
"Wait, sir!" Through the Transponder Snail, a Marine officer spoke up quickly. "We've just been informed that one of the surveillance snails is still activated and monitoring the field!"
"What?!" shouted Sengoku, baffled and enraged.
Unfortunately, it was too late to disengage the plan.
Beneath the scaffold, Sakazuki had heard his cue. From both his arms, his Magma-Magma power spewed forth two mounds of hot lava. He then announced, "Meteor Volcano," and launched many large, fist-shape projectiles into the sky.
"Dammit, Akainu!" shouted Sengoku, now wholly enraged.
Sakazuki paid no mind to his commanding officer's displeasure. "It's better this way," he reasoned aloud, "so that everyone will know that our justice is absolute."
The man's action had not gone unnoticed. Nearly every pirate saw, but they knew little for what that meant. Even in the sky, Shiki and his cohorts were surprised that the attack had not been aimed at them, being such a big target. A bright glow of red soon drew their attention above. They instantly see the enormous meteors of lava descending upon them.
"Oh Nooooooooo!" screamed both Buggy and Galdino (Mr.3) in fright.
Shiki acted fast and lowered the ship, but with several more meteors coming down, it appeared that sky combat was done. "I'm landing this thing, boys! Prepare for battle!" he shouted forewarning.
Aiming for the plaza behind the walls, Shiki had the vessel descend quickly. A few of the massive molten meteors scrapped against the ship but only managed to set the bow ablaze. The men onboard panicked as the vessel sank towards the ground. None more so than Buggy and Galdino.
But the meteors of lava were not just to attack the enemies in the sky—each one headed for the center of the bay where Whitebeard's ships remained positioned by the ice. With no way to move them, the molten rock smashed, splashed, and set on fire the pirate vessels. Many more landed on the ice, only to instantly melt it with its heat. As the heated rock sank into the sea, it made more of the frozen sea become liquid once more. It was clear that the pirates were losing their footing, with many already falling into the water. For the Whitebeard Pirates, though, they were more saddened to lose their ships. Even Edward Newgate himself sent a silent apology to his stalwart vessel, having faithfully carried him and his crew for years.
Unfortunately, there was no time to seriously grieve; their footing was being pulled beneath them, and Ace's execution draws ever nearer. Every pirate pushed forward by land or sea to reach the gap. Luffy and his group were doing the same, but the Marines were heavily guarding it. The Pacifistas were closing in as well. It appeared that, despite some setbacks, the Marines' plan was working. Fortunately, thanks to Shiki's quick thinking, he landed his ship in the plaza safely.
"Ji-hahaha!" laughed the flying pirate after disposing of a few soldiers. He then mocked, "Is this all you got, Marines?"
Suddenly, like a cannonball, something crashed towards Shiki, blowing back Marine soldiers and pirates alike. As the smoke and dust cleared, it revealed that the Golden Lion was fine but looked displeased. He was blocking a fist from none other than the Hero of the Marines, Monkey D. Garp. The man had soared down from the scaffold to finally take part in the battle. He appeared angry at the man.
"Garp," Shiki acknowledged with disdain.
"Shiki…" Garp landed on the ground and stood before the pirate undeterred.
Shiki spoke further, "I've been hoping I could get a shot at you. I still need to pay you and Sengoku back for locking me up."
"Bring it on," Garp said, raising his fist up. "I'll send you right back to your cell!"
Back on the platform, Sengoku gave out an order. "Make sure they don't get through!" A roar came from his men before continuing their resistance against the pirates advancing. With the gap secured, he had time to focus on another matter.
"What is the situation about one of the video snail's on?" Sengoku asked into the Transponder Snail.
"It's a little girl!" replied the soldier immediately. "We're being told a child is on Marineford and carrying the Cameko Snail around with her!"
"Then, stop her!" shouted Sengoku enraged.
"We're trying to find…" there was an unusual pause until the man spoke again. "Sir! They're telling us she's heading for the platform!"
"What?!"
"There's more! The little girl is referring to Portgas D. Ace as…' her uncle,' sir."
Sengoku did not have words to describe how frustrated he was with the situation. An entire war was before him, and behind him, a child was running around in danger: worst, the implications of the child's claim. Despite how impressive Ace's own birth was in avoiding the Marines, the Pirate King couldn't have had another child. More likely, she was a child of someone who looked to Ace as a brother. And it was apparent who that was, which infuriated him further.
"Garp!" Sengoku shouted in disregard of the battle. Once he had his longtime comrade's attention, he let loose the full fury of his anger.
"Why Is It YOUR Family Is Always Causing Trouble?!"
Having no idea what his old friend meant, Garp continued his battle with Shiki.
Sneering disdainfully, Sengoku spoke back into the Transponder Snail. "Just do something about that girl, immediately!"
As the orders rang out through the Marines' ranks, Mika continued her way, not realizing how much trouble she was in. When she finally saw the battlefield and then the platform, she took off for her uncle but kept the Transponder Snail she had found. The sight of the fiery rock falling had intimidated her a little but remained undeterred from her goal. She still had the video snail on her, hoping she could use it to contact her mother as a communications snail. Thus, her obliviousness allowed her to comment openly on what she saw or thought.
"Hang on, Uncle Ace!" Mika said as she ran through the streets of Marineford Town. "Me, Mama, and Daddy are coming to save you!"
Suddenly, a voice shouted at her, "Stop, little girl!"
Mika stopped and looked down a nearby alley. She gasped when she saw two Marine soldiers coming at her. The little girl took off immediately, but another two descended from above to block her path. A scream escaped Mika, and she tried doubling back only to be stopped by the other two. She was trapped.
"It's okay, little girl," said one of the soldiers as he and the others slowly approached the child. He continued speaking, "We know there's a big scary battle nearby, but we're here to help you."
Shaking her head and clutching the Cameko snail closer to herself, Mika told the marines, "No! I'm here to save Uncle Ace!"
The other marine was less patient with the girl. He told her, "Look, kid, you're already in big trouble as it is, so just give us the snail and come along with us peacefully."
Defiantly, Mika stuck her tongue out at the man. It was an action that nettled the man.
"Why you little…" the man approached the girl and apprehended her.
Just as he was about to grab her, a mighty caw echoed down the street but growing louder quickly. Two men looked back to see what it was but were too late to do anything more as a big yellow bird smashed into them. It then proceeded to hit the other two men, avoiding Mika entirely. Once farther down, the avian creature then released a burst of electricity that shocked the men unconscious. It left the group in a pile and flapped over to Mika quickly and nuzzled her affectionately.
Being tickled by the bird's feathers, Mika laughed before hugging it back. "Biri!" she shouted happily.
"Mika!"
Hearing her name, Mika looked back down the street in surprise as she recognized the voice. Down the road and running towards her was Akio. Following behind him was a man in make-up and wearing a tattered prisoner uniform.
"Akio?! You're here too?" Mika responded with amazement.
Once he reached her, the boy replied, "It's a long story…" But then, Akio had a question for Mika.
"How are you even here, though?"
"Me, Daddy, and Mama landed on this island where I went to school to learn ha-kee or something, and we got a ride when we heard about Uncle Ace's ex'cution. So, while Daddy went to this big prison place to rescue him, me and Mama came here to get back to the Sunny but then, Mama said she was gonna make sure Uncle Ace would be rescued or something and tried to send me home alone. But then these weird guys showed up, and I ended up staying here!"
Feeling a bit envious, Akio replied showily, "Yeah, well, I came with Mr. Silvers and sailed with the Whitebeard pirates to get here with Biri."
Mika replied smiley but evenly, "That's cool."
Akio began pouting while Biri did not care as he continued to show his affection to the little girl.
The adult then finally caught up. He spoke flamboyantly to Mika, "You must be Straw Boy's daughter. A pleasure to meet you, young Miss."
"You know my daddy?" asked Mika in astonishment.
"Yep! Your father, Luffy, and I share a deep bond of friendship that has endured since our separation at Alabasta and then the trials of Impel Down."
Mika was captivated by the man's short tale, "Cool…"
"His name is Bon Clay, Mika," spoke Akio. "Your dad said he'll be looking after me and Biri."
"And of course," Bentham added before pointing his finger at the girl, "that means you too, deary."
Bon Clay then noticed the Cameko snail in the girl's arm. "Um, what do you have there," he asked.
Holding up the snail, Mika told the okama, "I found it, but I can't call my mama…"
"That's because it's a video Transponder Snail, sweetheart," answered Bentham as he took the gastropod. "It only takes video and sends it to another snail that projects it on a screen."
"Oooh," Mika said in realization.
The man then turned the snail around to stare at it directly. "You've been causing quite a tizzy for the Marines for having this thing on," he told the girl.
"I wonder why? Is someone watching this fight?"
"Who cares," said Mika. "Let's go rescue Uncle Ace!"
"'scuse me?" said Bentham, confused.
Mika cheered out, "Let's go!" And she ran off down the street.
"Wait!" Quickly, Bentham raced in front of Mika and stopped her. He then told her, "There is no way I'm letting Straw Boy's young'ns going out there! You'll end up killed!"
"Nuh-uh," replied Mika defiantly.
Akio joined Mika's side and said, "I agree with Mika, though, not about being killed. We'll probably will…"
"Nuh-uh!" Mika said to her friend, now mad.
"But," continued Akio pensively, "if we do things smartly, we can definitely help save Mr. Ace and escape!"
"Yeah!" cheered Mika, switching emotions instantly.
Biri joined the girl in cheering, looking just as determined as the kids to help.
Bon Clay was beginning to lose his patience with the group. "You guys…"
"Hmph. Just like a pirate, always disobeying…"
A new voice alarmed the group. They looked over down the street ahead of them to find it now blocked by a large man scowling. He wore a red suit underneath a white Marine overcoat and wearing a Marine cap. Biri instinctually sensed that the man was dangerous and stood in front of the kids to protect them. Neither kid knew who the man was other than a Marine soldier. Bentham knew and moved in front of them as well. He wore a brave but faltering expression with nervous sweat rolling down his face, though not ruining his make-up.
"A-Admiral Akainu…"
The admiral noticed his fellow marines defeated on the ground. "Disgraceful," he commented before walking forward dauntingly.
"D-D-Don't think I'll let you harm these kids!" Bentham threatened pitifully.
Akainu, of course, was not discouraged. "You all will meet the same fate," he said aloud.
Feeling nervous, Akio tried to get the man to sympathize. "M-Mister, we're just kids, we really…"
"We've been monitoring this war the whole time; we know who that girl is and who she's related to. She is the daughter of Monkey D. Luffy, son of Dragon the Revolutionary. She has nothing but criminal blood in her veins, and you are all equally guilty for piracy. I will wipe out this tainted bloodline and all you criminals along with her."
Akio could not find the courage to speak out again. The cold attitude and unwavering sense of justice were terrifying. None of the group could move despite knowing they should run. Sakazuki's presence was suffocating. It soon became worse when the man stopped just halfway to them. His entire right arm then started glowing a hot red and orange before transforming into molten lava. As it formed a mound and cooled into black volcanic rock, the admiral gave but one moment of pity towards the group.
"If you have any regret, it is that you were born to a pirate-scum…"
Mika, feeling a swell of emotions within her, stepped around her protectors and shouted with all her might, "I love my daddy and mama!"
Sakazuki sneered at the little girl. "Impudent girl…" he said as he prepared to attack.
"OH NO!" shouted Bon Clay in horror.
Biri began to spark with electricity, ready to do something. As for Akio, the young boy was too frightened and had his eyes closed. He did not want to see what was to come at them. Mika stood her ground, determined and fearless. Heated rock was ready to burst from Sakazuki's lava mound; he felt assured that his action would produce the result he desired. No one noticed someone on the roof nearby. Holding a light blue staff with three nodules, the end glowing yellow with voltage, they launched the ball up into the dark clouds above.
"THUNDERBOLT TEMPO!" roared a woman's voice full of righteous rage.
Electricity is scattered throughout the cloud system. Thunder rumbled overhead the battlefield but was drowned out by the clashing forces. Several flashes of light proceed before anyone noticed. Finally, the main event began as several lightning strikes rained down. The bolts struck across the area, hitting buildings and people alike. Most were in the plaza thanks to a back-up plan from the Whitebeard and the gap made by Oars Junior. But, regardless, neither side was safe; however, some were able to manage. One such person, who was struck by the lightning bolt, was none other than…
"AAAAH!" roared Luffy, covered in lightning, unharmed and invigorated.
Nearby, Ivankov was watching in shock and awe. With his Hormone-Hormone Devil Fruit power, the man had injected some energy-boosting hormones into Luffy by his request. When lightning hit his ward as he returned to his feet, it was like the heavens were giving him a power-up.
As for the Whitebeard Pirates and allies, their forces suffered but pressed forward. The Marines were in the same situation, but a few giants were taken out. One thunderbolt attempted to strike the scaffold but was knocked back by Sengoku, now a giant golden and portly figure that stood over Ace.
"What is going on?" Sengoku said, noticing how unnatural the lightning came about.
Of the several lightning bolts that struck across the island of Marineford, one hit somewhere in the city. Electricity surged through Admiral Akainu, who let out a muffled groan in agony. The voltage was intense and wholly paralyzing. The group was figuratively shocked by the turn of events. When the strike was finally over and the black clouds began dissipating, Sakazuki was left unmoving and riddled with electric sparks. His status left him wide open for an attack which was what someone took advantage of.
A woman in a pink, frilly collared shirt and a brown skirt would do such as she ran at the man from down an adjacent street. Her fist was reeled back and ready to strike. Once she was close enough, she threw her punch with all her might.
"Shark Brick Fist!"
The woman's fist connected with the stunned man's body and a shockwave was produced that rippled through the man before the overall force launched the man back. Sakazuki was helpless and defense against the attack, blood dripping from his mouth as an after-effect. He proceeded to crash through several buildings before stopping and disappearing under the rubble of the last one.
"Come on!" shouted the woman in pink to the group. "We gotta get outta here before Akainu recovers."
"R-Right!" said Bentham.
A shout – from the same person that called down the thunder – came down from the street, "Over here!"
Mika instantly recognized the voice and was overjoyed. "Mama!" she shouted.
The group entered the street nearby, and there she was, Nami, jumping down from the roof. Akio, Biri, and Bon Clay were delighted to see the woman. There was no time to stop, so Nami joined the group in running away. While the other woman brought up the rear, Nami stayed ahead with Mika, who was trying to keep pace with her. She wanted to tell her mother all the things she had done since separating; however, she failed to notice the angry expression on her face
"Mama! You should've seen what I've been through! First, I…"
"Not now, Namika," Nami said evenly, surprising her daughter.
Bon Clay asked Akio quietly, "Namika?"
"That's Mika's real name," Akio answered. He then added worriedly, "But Ms. Monkey only ever uses it when she's in trouble…"
"Mama?" asked Mika confused.
Nami did not reply, she continued to look ahead in thought and anger. Mika, instead of taking full notice, continued to pester her for a response. It was beginning to worry the others, even those who did not know the family personally. After a few a while of running and turning, Mika's hounding finally eroded her patience.
"Mama!"
Nami stopped suddenly, catching everyone by surprise. She seethed for a moment before she turned to look at her daughter, glaring furiously.
The other orange-haired moved to Bentham. She whispered, "I think it's time we turned off the video snail…"
"Yeah…" said Bon Clay, followed shortly by setting the snail asleep.
Now nervous, Mika asked, "Mama?"
"Don't…!" Nami said loud and furious, nearly scaring her daughter.
However, Nami tried to keep cool so she refused to finish that sentence. She then spoke again a little calmer, "Namika, I am very disappointed in you."
"What?"
"I told you I was trusting you to head back to the Sunny…
Mika tried to counter, "Yeah, so I went my own way—"
"I was trusting you to get home safely!" Nami shouted, unable to hold back her frustration.
"I told you this was too dangerous for you to be here! You knew I wanted to you go by that crate, and you disobeyed me!"
Mike continued to try and counter, "B-But there were these two guys…"
"That's no excuse!" yelled Nami furious, making her daughter flinch.
"Not only have you put yourself in serious danger but now, I can't concentrate on rescuing Ace with you here! Or helping Luffy! I need to take care of you, and Akio too! Did you even think about how this would inconvenience everyone?! And you've been broadcasting to who knows who was watching, alerting the Marines to who you are! They're going to be after you now! Do you even know how much trouble you're putting everyone including yourself in!"
The others stayed quiet though vigilant of their potential chaser. Biri was especially so as he was unaffected by the yelling, knowing he had a duty. It was beginning to feel a bit awkward for them, Akio especially, though the adults understood Nami's frustration and anger. They would say nothing at all, even with the expression the little girl was making. Poor Mika was nearly bursting in tears as emotions of sadness, confusion, and frustration swelled within her. She only wanted to help. Nami could see what her words had done but she felt that it was necessary. Her daughter's action had gone too far this time. But regardless, she believed she could still salvage this operation.
"Bon, Koala," spoke Nami evenly, gaining their attention. "Could you both go help Luffy rescue Ace?"
The woman, Koala, smiled and nodded. "You know I was already going to do that," she told Nami.
Bon Clay, however, was looking a little worried. "You sure, girly?" he asked.
"Yeah, I'll take the kids back to our ship…"
Mika shouted out in rage as tears fell, "No!"
Frowning, Nami stated, "You don't get a say in this…"
"Then, I'm Going To Save Uncle Ace By Myself!" Mika took off running immediately after, heading for the execution area.
"Namika!" Of course, Nami went after her.
Author's Note: Okay, let me explain...
Akainu overpowered Ace's Devil Fruit because it was of higher heat output or fire manipulation. What's higher than magma: lightning! Who can use lightning-based attacks: Nami!
Of course, it's not like Eneru levels of power but it's enough to stun a Marine admiral high on his own justice.
That makes perfect sense, right?
