AN: I've been reading some Love Hina fanfiction stories recently, and like the song goes… I'm hooked on a feeling!~ I especially loved the stories Love Hina: Consequences and Love Hina: Payback written by the very talented Snafu the Great. Those stories are very well written, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a good revenge fic. Unfortunately, I don't have the knowledge necessary to write a long Love Hina story of my own, but I thought that I'd go ahead and at least write this little oneshot story, have myself a little bit of fun, and get it out of my system. And who knows, if this story is liked by enough people maybe I'll turn it into a full story later down the line! But now, with all of that out of the way, please enjoy this oneshot story!
Disclaimer: I don't own Love Hina!
Nineteen year old Keitaro Urashima was not having a good day. In fact, he really wasn't having a good life either. Ever since he failed his Tokyo U entrance exams for a second time all so he could meet and be with his 'promised girl' he's been living at the Hinata Sou due to being made the landlord and manager by his grandmother, Hinata Urashima, while his cousin/aunt Haruka Urashima ran a small tea shop nearby. At the time when he had first arrived at the Hinata Sou, he hadn't been told that his grandmother had converted the place from an inn into an all girls dormitory, which in turn led to several misunderstandings and painful encounters with the resident girls who were living there.
First was a girl around his age named Naru Narusegawa, who like him was also something of a ronin, but she proved to have a highly volatile temper and hatred of men. He met her completely by accident as he had been looking for his grandmother at the time, which led to him meeting the rest of the Hinata Sou's tenants. There was a kendoka known as Motoko Aoyama who was also a man hater… and for some reason had a crippling phobia of turtles, a Molmol Princess called Su who was also an aspiring mad scientist with a penchant for exploding mecha turtles, a young girl who was an aspiring chef known as Shinobu, and a platinum blonde journalist/hustler named Mitsune.
Fortunately for Keitaro, his aunt had arrived in time to stop the three most violent girls from killing him over this misunderstanding before dropping the major bomb about him being their new manager/landlord of the dorm. Were they happy about it?
HELL to the NO!
Well, I guess it depends on who you're asking, really, but Naru, Motoko, and Kitsune were certainly not too happy about having a man as the manager of an all girls dorm.
And ever since that day it's been nothing but a living hell for Keitaro!
Naru and Motoko constantly attack Keitaro over the smallest of accidents due to his own natural clumsiness, Su uses him as a guinea pig to test out her new and highly destructive inventions all while causing uncontrollable amounts of property damage, and Mitsune, or "Kitsune" as everyone calls her due to her being clever like a fox, continued to scam Keitaro out of paying rent and out of his own money just to gamble on horse races and drink her liver to death in alcoholic beverages! It didn't help that Keitaro has this remarkable healing factor that seems to kick in every time Naru punches him into lower Earth orbit or Motoko tries to cleave him in half using her katana! Not to mention the fact that his own aunt, Haruka, continues to bean him over the head with a paper fan every time he calls her by said title even though Haruka was so insistent that he call her "aunt" when Keitaro was much younger.
The only ones who treat him as a person are Shinobu, who thinks of Keitaro as her Senpai, and a new girl who moved into the Hinata Sou not long after Keitaro took up the position as manager/landlord of the establishment. Her name was Mutsumi Otohime, and she's a very kind and considerate young woman who seems to care deeply for Keitaro despite the fact that he's gotten into trouble with Naru and Motoko due to her anemia. Honestly if not for them Keitaro would have just up and left the Hinata Sou in a heartbeat
But things have changed.
Now Keitaro had plans to leave the Hinata Sou for good, and no amount of begging, threats, or mecha turtles will change his mind. He did feel bad that he would be leaving behind the only three friends he had at the former inn. That's right, I said three.
Midway through the first month that he had been working at the Hinata Sou, Keitaro had decided that he had had enough of being used as a target for Motoko's sword attacks and called for a private meeting between himself and Motoko. And told her to leave the sword behind. The kendoka, while skeptical of his true intentions, agreed to leave her sword in her room since Keitaro had given his word that Haruka would be there to, quote: "make sure he didn't try anything inappropriate with her.", unquote. And so, over a nice hot cup of tea, Earl Grey that Haruka had so thoughtfully provided, Keitaro had gotten the full story over why Motoko hated men so much and thought of them all as being vile demons in human skin. It took some gentle coaxing from both Keitaro and Haruka, but eventually she did tell them everything. And while most of her beliefs about men stemmed from mixed messages she got from her sister in her early childhood, the truly scarring events that solidified her beliefs about men were caused by an event that took place when she was twelve years old.
It turns out that her older sister had made some enemies in her time as the heiress to the Shinmei-Ryu School of Martial Arts. And one of them was a rather lecherous older man who had wanted Motoko's older sister for himself so that he could essentially take over the school by force. But he knew that she was too powerful for him to take on even with help, so he did the unthinkable in an attempt to get to Motoko's sister by targeting her(Motoko) instead. And so he attempted to rape Motoko!
Lucky for Motoko, her sister and the elders of her clan had been in the area at the time and put a stop to it before Motoko's innocence could be stolen. The man was sentenced to life in prison for his crimes, but the damage had been done as Motoko now carries both a grudge against anything male, with the exception of children up to the age of ten years maximum since their hormones haven't kicked in yet, as well as deep mental and emotional scars. Needless to say both Urashimas were absolutely horrified to learn what had almost happened to the resident Kendo Girl. Both Keitaro and Haruka had offered the girl comfort as she started to cry from the painful memories that were brought back to the surface, and Keitaro had made a promise to her that he would do everything in his power to prove that not all men are bad.
At first Motoko didn't want to believe the dorm's manager due to the mental and emotional scars that she was burdened with, but she had at least agreed not to attack him so long as he did nothing to provoke her. And he agreed to those terms. It took a lot of time and patience, three months of it to be exact, but thanks to his kind and gentle nature and his willingness to forgive even when he was on the receiving end of some of the worst of the attacks, Keitaro had succeeded in coaxing the young kendo girl from her shell to reveal the beautiful flower hidden within. And he even succeeded in helping rid her hatred towards all things male.
Unfortunately, everyone has a breaking point. And Keitaro had reached the end of his patience after half a year of Naru's constant assaults over the slightest thing, Su constantly blowing everything up and causing more damage to the dorm than he could reasonably repair by himself, and Konno Mitsune constantly swindling him out of his money and avoiding paying rent all while causing the situations with Naru for her own sick sense of amusement. Keitaro's finally had enough. Which leads us to this very night.
Keitaro was leaving the Hinata Sou for good, and never coming back no matter how much his grandmother tried to strongarm him into doing so.
He had the whole thing planned out and ready to go. He would wait until everyone had gone to sleep for the night, which would be at least another hour, and then he would quietly leave the dorm without waking anyone. After leaving the dorm he had plans to buy a train ticket to one of the outer provinces of Japan before disguising himself, getting a job, and traveling overseas to start his life anew. He already packed up his bags taking only the essentials with him, which basically meant his clothes, toothbrush & toothpaste, hairbrush, shampoo, bodywash, cologne, his personal towel, a spare pair of glasses, and all of the cash that he had on him.
An hour later and Keitaro was making his way to the common room where he stopped for a brief moment. Taking one last look at the place, Keitaro sighed with deep sadness and regret.
"Perhaps this is for the best. Granny can find a new manager for the inn, just have Kanako take over and inherit the place in my stead. Maybe then the residents won't get into as much trouble as they did with me in charge." Keitaro said quietly.
He was about to open the door and leave when…
"Are you really going to just leave without saying goodbye?" Motoko asked as she, Shinobu, and Mutsumi walked in.
Keitaro turned around and saw the three girls, fully dressed and holding bags of their own. Although Shinobu was stifling a yawn as she rubbed the sleep out of her eyes.
"It's not like you to just leave without a word, Keitaro." Motoko said.
Keitaro shrugged and said "I left a note.".
"Why wouldn't you say goodbye to us in person, senpai? In fact, why are you leaving in the first place?" Shinobu asked with tears building in her eyes. "Did we do something to make you mad? Please don't be mad at us, senpai!"
Naturally, the good-natured young man couldn't stand the sight of Shinobu crying for any reason. So he knelt down and put his hands on her shoulders as he tried to reassure her.
"No, no Shinobu, you girls haven't done anything wrong! It's just that…"
"You can no longer tolerate Narusegawa, Konno, and Su making your life hell, intentionally or otherwise." Mutsumi said, though it sounded like a question rather than a statement.
Keitaro wasn't surprised that Mutsumi figured it out so easily. Despite her anemia and the fact that she acts like an oblivious ditz around the Hinata Sou residents, Keitaro, Shinobu, Motoko, and even Haruka know that Mutsumi is actually far smarter and more observant than she lets on. So it comes as no surprise that she could figure out her friend's reason for leaving so easily.
"Yeah… I just can't take it anymore, girls. All this time I've been trying to get into Todai so that I could finally meet and fall in love with my Promise Girl that Granny Hina seems so dead set on having me keep my promise to, and I thought that she was Naru, but that just doesn't seem to be the case. I can't feel that spark of love that I once had for her. Su keeps causing more and more damage to the Hinata Sou thanks to her highly destructive inventions and thinks that just because she has diplomatic immunity she doesn't have to face the consequences of her actions. And no matter how hard I try to set a good example for her she just refuses to listen and continues to treat everything as if it's one giant game! And don't even get me started on Mitsune and what she's been doing since I got here…"
Keitaro sighed and slung his bag over his shoulder.
"I'm sorry, but I can't stay here any longer. That promise I made as a child has lost all meaning to me. I need to leave the Hinata Sou and reevaluate my life, and decide what it is that I truly want in life. And I definitely need to do this without Granny trying to manipulate me like she manipulated me into becoming the landlord for this place even though I was never told that it was converted into a girls-only dorm." Keitaro explained.
The three girls each looked a little ticked off at that last statement. They remembered all too well just how Granny Hina basically screwed the pooch on that one.
"Be that as it may," said Motoko as she stepped forward. "We can't allow you to leave on your own like this. The life of a ronin is a hard one, and it's especially difficult if you travel alone. Believe me, I know from personal experience."
Keitaro nodded as Motoko had told him about her travels after she left home.
"That's why we want to come with you." Mustumi said with Shinobu nodding in agreement.
Keitaro stared at the three girls for a moment. He blinked once. They blinked back.
He faced the audience with a deadpan look and quipped "Well, this is certainly not what I expected to happen tonight."
***To Be Continued…***
Ending AN: And so ends this oneshot of mine! Like the title says, it's just a premise to an actual story. If anyone wants to try their hand at writing a continuation of the story, PM me or let me know in the reviews and we'll talk about it. And who knows? If enough people like this story premise and ask me to continue it, I might write a continuation of this story and see what kind of whacky misadventures I can send Keitaro through. ...And yeah, Motoko's reasons for hating men are caused by a much more traumatizing experience than in the anime/manga, but I felt as though it would give a more solid reason for her immediate dislike of men. Anyway, I gotta go now. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you next time!
