Hello again, everybody! I am SO sorry for that letdown of a chapter I posted earlier, but I hope that this one makes up for it, because it's time for the exhibition duel between Jaune Moto, and Chazz Princeton! Strap in, everybody, because we are in for a long chapter today, since it features a duel! Let's get to this, shall we? But first, I'll answer some reviews from the audience.
Sage of the Azure Phoenix: Thanks for your support in regards to Jasmine's deck. And I'm sorry, but aside from Missy, I don't know who these other characters are.
Zathol: Thank you! I am so happy that someone understands how challenging it can be to write out duels from scratch and create decks that just work well! And you're right, it is easy to copy duels from the show, which some of them, admittedly, will be. But there will be some differences to those duels to add a little more spice to them. Actually, I have been thinking about giving Jaune an all new deck, but since he's the Supreme King of Gentle Darkness, I thought I'd want to stick with an Elemental HERO deck. Maybe I'll set up a poll to help me decide.
Neo-Warkid4: Say no more. I read you loud and clear. I've got a plan.
*As always, I do not own RWBY or Yu-Gi-Oh GX.*

In the RWBY Universe
"Damn it, this is bad!"
Headmaster Ozpin was currently seething in his office as he paced back and forth. The Arcs have really screwed the pooch on his plans. Not even his seemingly bottomless mug of hot cocoa can do anything to soothe his anger. He had this whole plan ready to go, but it turns out the Arcs have become a bunch of elitist snobs like the current head of the SDC, Jacques Schnee, and drove away their son! Their only son who was an integral piece of Ozpin's plan to defeat Salem and save Remnant!
Not only that, but several specimens from several Grimm species fled with him and are now running amok in the wilds of… wherever the hell that boy ran off to!
He may still have his future silver-eyed warrior to look forward to, but without his ultimate sacrificial pawn the plan wouldn't work! Salem has defeated Silver-Eyed Warriors in the past, mostly through the use of sending assassins after them and killing them all off one at a time, but he had a plan to make Summer's daughter as powerful as could possibly be! AND THE ARCS RUINED IT!
Taking a deep breath Ozpin said to himself "Alright, calm down Ozpin. All is not lost yet. There may yet be a way to salvage the plan, maybe alter it a little and still have it work. I just need to bide my time and wait for the right moment. One way or another, I will have the power of the Supreme King of Darkness on my side!"
With that, Ozpin sat back at his desk. He had a great deal of thinking to do in order to revise his original plan. Perhaps he should give Qrow and Ironwood a call and have them investigate the sight where young Jaune had disappeared. They might be able to turn up some sort of a clue as to how he was transported and what exactly happened. In the meantime, he was going to need something stronger than hot cocoa for this headache he was beginning to develop.
Time for a shot of scotch.
Yu-Gi-Oh Universe
All of the students of Duel Academy, both old and new, had gathered in the main duel arena for an exhibition match between two of Duel Academy's newest students. Jaune Moto, and Chazz Princeton. After dinner the previous night, Midori and Banner had contacted Chancellor Shepard and told him about Chazz's challenge and how Jaune wished to duel him without breaking school rules. So after a short discussion, weighing the pros and cons and all of that, it was decided that the two of them would duel each other in the morning in an exhibition match. Shepard had smiled as he said "What better way to start off the new year than with a duel between two of our most promising freshman students?".
And so, here we are now.
As they stood on the actual duel field, Chazz was a little peeved that Jaune hadn't arrived for his challenge like he'd hoped, and was even less pleased at having almost been caught by campus security, but at least he'd still get to duel the adopted son of Yugi Moto and show him exactly who was at the top of the pecking order.
Jaune just stood on his side of the field getting his deck and Duel Disk ready. He wasn't about to let some snobby rich boy bully push him around. He's going to prove that he earned his way into Duel Academy through skill and hard work alone rather than money and fancy prep-schooling. Maybe in the future, others who are born into wealthy families will wise-up and follow his lead. But he's not gonna get ahead of himself.
"Well, well, well, I guess you're not too much of a coward after all." Chazz said with an arrogant smirk. "Time to find out if you beating Doctor Crowler was a fluke, or a fact. But I doubt you'll be able to beat me in a duel. After all, I'm an Obelisk Blue and you're just a Slifer Red Slacker."
"The only thing we're gonna find out here is which one of us is REALLY going to become the next King of Games." Jaune said with a grin of his own.
"Yeah, whatever. Just be ready to fork over your rarest card when you lose." Chazz said, arrogance and pride heavy in his voice.
Jaune just shook his head and looked at the fourth wall with a small, tired smile.
"An ego that goes all the way to the moon, this guy has. Know what I'm saying?" he quipped.
Chazz looked where Jaune was looking for a moment, confused about what he just did.
'Who is he talking to?' Chazz mentally asked.
There was no time to ponder as dramatic music began playing on the speakers. Chancellor Shepard appeared on the big screen with a microphone in hand and a smile of anticipation on his face. Clearly he was looking forward to this duel as much as Jaune had been.
"Welcome all Duel Academy students new and old! Normally, we would be having classes today, but my fellow staff and I talked it over and decided that it would be a far more interesting beginning to the year if we held an exhibition duel between two of our most promising freshman students before we really get the ball rolling. So please put your hands together for Chazz Princeton of Obelisk Blue, and Jaune Moto of Slifer Red!" Shepard announced.
The crowd went wild as the Slifers cheered for their fellow red, the Ra Yellow students were evenly split on who to cheer for, and a majority of the Obelisks were cheering for Chazz and jeering at Jaune, as they believed that his win against Crowler was just dumb luck. Oh, the poor, poor fools.
"Gentlemen, if you're both ready, then let the exhibition begin!" exclaimed Shepard.
Both students activated their duel disks and took their place on the field.
"Duel!" they both exclaimed.
(Chazz: 4000/Jaune: 4000)
"Okay, Slacker," Chazz began as he drew a card. "For my first move I'll summon Reborn Zombie in defense mode."
Chazz's field hummed with life as a literal zombie appeared, growling as it kneeled with its arms crossed in front of it. This zombie's skin was a sort of pinkish color, but it had empty eye sockets, unruly white hair, a wide mouth full of gappy teeth, and one arm and leg were nothing but bone.
(Reborn Zombie [Monster/Effect] Zombie/DARK [Level 4] ATK; 1000/ DEF; 1600)
"And I'll also place one card facedown." Chazz said as he placed a card in his spell/trap zone.
"Well, I suppose that's one way to start off a duel. But now it's my turn!" Jaune said as he drew a card.
Seeing that he drew Elemental HERO Avian he looked at the rest of his cards and saw that he also had Elemental HERO Burstinatrix, Elemental HERO Clayman, Elemental HERO Sparkman, Polymerization, and…
'Kuri kuri!'
"Oh, it's you!" he quietly said to the card. "Dad gave me your card for a reason, so I might as well save you for an emergency."
With pleasantries exchanged, Jaune looked at his card and contemplated what he should do.
'I can't just charge in recklessly. Chumley said it himself that Chazz builds and rebuilds his deck for the sole purpose of countering his opponent's deck. He saw me use Flame Wingman before in my duel against the Court Jester, but since I don't have him in my deck he can't exactly counter it. And that facedown of his could be a trap, and I don't have any idea what it does.' Jaune pondered to himself as he thought about what he should do. 'Maybe I should bring out a strong monster first and see if he has a trap, and then set up a defense in case I can't stop it. ...I know!'
Adding Avian to his hand, Jaune made his move.
"I'll start off bigger, Chazz! And I'll start by playing Polymerization! With it, I'll fuse Avian and Burstinatrix that are in my hand to summon the one and only Elemental HERO Phoenix Enforcer in attack mode!" declared Jaune.
"Huh?" gasped Syrus from the bleachers.
"What?" asked Alexis who was watching from her spot next to Jasmine and Mindy.
"Elemental HERO who-now?" Chazz asked, clearly confused.
Everyone got their answer as Avian and Burstinatrix briefly appeared before flying up into a swirling vortex and merging into one new creature. It was clearly a combination of Avian and Burstinatrix with Avian being the main component, but this monster seemed to take after Avian's bird-like features more than the dragon features that are prominent on Flame Wingman. Phoenix Enforcer is a heavily muscled humanoid male monster with a pair of feathered wings like Avian's on his back. The exposed skin on his lower face and hands showed that he had tan skin, and he wore a skintight black bodysuit with red flame designs like Burstinatrix, an armored green helmet that almost resembled a crest of feathers, and armored gauntlets that were also green with the right handed gauntlet having three blade-like talons. He had clawed feet like those of a bird of prey, likely a phoenix, and a long red tail like that of a dragon.
Phoenix Enforcer roared with power as he levitated to his spot on Jaune's field.
(Elemental HERO Phoenix Enforcer [Monster/Fusion/Effect] Warrior/FIRE [Level 6] ATK; 2100/ DEF; 1200) = Monster Card Stats
"The hell? That's not Flame Wingman!" exclaimed Chazz.
"No, he's not. I've been saving Phoenix Enforcer for when the time felt right for me to use his card, and now that time has come!" Jaune explained with a grin. "You wanted this duel, Chazz, now let's see what you've got!"
"Okay, uh, somebody wanna fill me in here? I thought Jaune had Flame Wingman in his deck, so why did he summon that Phoenix Enforcer instead?" Syrus asked.
"It's because it's a sort of branched fusion summon."
Syrus looked to his side to see that Mindy, Jasmine, Alexis, and even Bastian had moved to sit with him and Chumley. The black haired beauty of Obelisk Blue was proving to be more than just a pretty face as she expertly explained how Jaune summoned Phoenix Enforcer.
"You see, some fusion monsters require the same monsters as fusion material, but they take on an entirely different route from one another. Since he has both Avian and Burstinatrix, Jaune can choose whether he wants to summon Flame Wingman or Phoenix Enforcer." Mindy explained.
"Oh, I guess that makes sense." Syrus mumbled as he turned his attention back to the duel.
Despite the unexpected turn of events, Chazz wasn't deterred.
"You may have summoned a different monster from the one I was hoping for, but you still made a big mistake you Slifer Slacker." he said.
Jaune raised an eyebrow at his opponent's words, pondering what he meant.
"That facedown card I played before was a trap, and you just set it off! Chthonian Polymer, do your stuff!"
Chazz's card flipped up depicting a creature seemingly roaring in agony as a fiery entity had it within its clutches. The card gave off a menacing blackish-purple aura as its effect activated.
"Wh-What's Chthonian Polymer's s-s-stuff?" stuttered Syrus.
It's an effect that's so no lichus for Jaune." said Chumley. "Chthonian Polymer is a nasty trap card that allows the one who activates it to take control of their opponent's fusion monster by sacrificing one of your own monsters."
"Oh man, and Jaune just summoned a fusion monster!" Syrus said, worried for his friend.
"I sacrifice Reborn Zombie to take control of your Phoenix Enforcer!" Chazz said smugly.
Reborn Zombie roared in pain as it was engulfed in light before shattering into pixels as it was destroyed. Jaune could only watch helplessly as his monster became a ball of light and flew to Chazz's side of the field. An explosion happened where Chthonian Polymer used to be, and rose up in a veil of that same dark miasma that Chthonian Polymer had been giving off. As the dark energy dissipated, Phoenix Enforcer roared, not with power, but with outrage at what happened to him.
Jaune mentally cursed at what just happened.
"This doesn't look good for Jaune." said Syrus.
"Thankfully, it won't get too much worse." Bastian said. "Unlike Flame Wingman, Phoenix Enforcer has an ability that prevents him from being destroyed by battle. So as long as he plays his cards right, Jaune's life points will be safe and he can plan a counterattack."
"You're so predictable, Jaune. I saw you play that Flame Wingman at the exam, so I knew you'd play it or at least something similar." gloated Chazz.
"Yeah, well my turn's not over yet! Since Phoenix Enforcer was a special summon, I'm still allowed to normal summon a monster during my turn." Jaune fired back as he mentally added 'Although nothing in my hand can bring down Phoenix Enforcer, especially with his effect. I can only play this and plan a counter strategy.'
Taking a card from his hand, Jaune summoned a new monster.
"I summon Elemental HERO Clayman in defense mode!"
Appearing on Jaune's field was a bulky male hero who looked like a doll made from several molded lumps of clay. His color scheme was mostly earthen gray/brown, but he had some yellow, a little bit of light blue, and a red colored head. He knelt down with his arms crossed in front of him as he got ready to defend.
(Elemental HERO Clayman [Monster/Normal] Warrior/EARTH [Level 4] ATK; 800/ DEF; 2000)
"And that ends my turn." Jaune said, knowing he couldn't do anything else just yet.
"Yeah, you're all set to get knocked down!" exclaimed Chazz as he drew his next card and played another one. "Rise Chthonian Soldier!"
A monster that looked almost like a knight wearing draconic style armor and holding a large cleaver style sword appeared on Chazz's field.
(Chthonian Soldier [Monster/Effect] Warrior/DARK [Level 4] ATK; 1200/ DEF; 1400)
"And now, Phoenix Enforcer, attack his Clayman!"
Phoenix Enforcer roared as he had no choice but to obey. He flew towards Clayman and raised his talons. With a quick downward strike, the mighty Clayman exploded into pixels as Jaune was forced to shield himself from the backlash.
"You're lucky that Phoenix Enforcer doesn't have Flame Wingman's super power, otherwise you'd be in even more trouble. But you'll still be feeling the pain from this next move!" gloated Chazz. "Chthonian Soldier, attack! Windstorm Slash!"
The soldier grunted and slashed Jaune across the chest using his sword, eliciting a cry of pain from the blonde. He clutched his chest as his life points dropped.
(Chazz: 4000/ Jaune: 4000 - 1200 = 2800)
"Are you starting to know your place here at the academy yet? Maybe you were somebody back home, what with being the son of the King of Game and all, but here in the big leagues you're nothing but a pathetic little amateur, Slifer Slime!" Chazz mocked before a card appeared in his spell/trap zone. "I'll end my turn with a facedown card. Go ahead, slacker."
But Chazz's confidence to a slight dive as Jaune gave him a glare so intense it would probably have melted him into a puddle of bone and goo. And he wasn't the only one as almost everyone in the stands flinched upon seeing such a look on the normally, from what they've observed so far, kind and easygoing guy that Jaune is. It was almost like a demon was staring right into their very souls.
"Don't compare me to my father, Princeton!" Chazz visibly flinched upon hearing the amount of venom when he last name was uttered by the blonde. "Because unlike some people at this academy, I didn't use money or connections to get into Duel Academy! And I most certainly do not, nor will I ever, ride on my father's coattails like some of the suck-ups in this academy do! I got in through my own hard work! Blood, sweat, and tears have been shed for me to make it into Duel Academy, and I'll prove it right here and now!"
There were a few students, namely a select few Obelisks, who found themselves feeling a newfound sense of shame as they had been able to just buy their way into their rank. But most of them felt insulted by Jaune's insinuation.
"I summon Elemental HERO Sparkman in attack mode!" exclaimed Jaune.
This time, the hero to appear was a man wearing a skintight dark gray bodysuit that looked almost black, with electric yellow armor covering his body. Pale blue electricity flowed off of him as he took a battle stance.
(Elemental HERO Sparkman [Warrior/Normal] Warrior/LIGHT [Level 4] ATK; 1600/ DEF; 1400)
"Now, Sparkman, destroy his Chthonian Soldier with Static Shockwave!"
Sparkman thrust out his hand and sent a blast of electricity at Chthonian Soldier, destroying the warrior in a vicious explosion. Chazz gritted his teeth as his life points went down.
(Chazz: 4000 - 400 = 3600/ Jaune: 2800)
Suddenly, out of the smoke came Chthonian Soldier's sword! It flew through the air and stabbed right through Jaune's abdomen, causing him to grunt in pain and shock. Clutching his stomach in pain, Jaune didn't have to wait long to figure out what happened.
(Chazz: 3600/ Jaune: 2800 - 400 - 2400)
"Where's all that talk of hard work NOW, Slacker?" taunted Chazz. "Because when Chthonian Soldier is destroyed, you take damage to your life points equal to the amount of damage I did. Difference is you don't have much to spare."
Jaune growled as he glared at Chazz.
"It's almost over, slacker! Your best card's about to be all mine!" Chazz said with a smug grin.
"I don't think so! I place one card facedown and end my turn." Jaune said as he threw down a facedown.
"Play what you like! My next attack will decimate your life points! And it'll start with me using Phoenix Enforcer to destroy your Sparkman!" Chazz declared.
Phoenix Enforcer flew at Sparkman, fully prepared to slice him into pieces. But Jaune just smirked.
"You attacked without thinking about what my facedown could've been. And that mistake will cost you, because it's a trap! And one of my favorites, too!" Jaune said as he revealed his facedown. "Mirror Force, reflect his attack!"
Chazz gasped in outrage as he realized that he walked right into that trap. Phoenix Enforcer's claws struck an energy barrier that materialized in front of Sparkman, halting his assault.
"Since Elemental HERO Phoenix Enforcer has a power that keeps him from being destroyed by battle, I couldn't use my monsters to destroy him. But that doesn't mean that I can't let my traps destroy him for me!" Jaune said as Phoenix Enforcer's claws were deflected off the Mirror Force and caused him to stab himself in the chest, destroying him. 'Forgive me, Phoenix Enforcer…'
"Alright! Way to go, Jaune!" cheered Syrus.
"Maybe he really can beat Chazz." Chumley said with a smile.
"Whoo! Go, Jaune!" cheered Jasmine.
"Great move!" Mindy added.
Alexis just smiled as she saw Jaune stick it to Chazz. He may have lower life points, but he's really making a comeback. But Chazz obviously wasn't happy about what happened.
"Hmph! Lucky move, is more like it." grunted Chazz as he played a spell card. "I guess I'll just have to activate Chthonian Blast. Since you destroyed one of my monster, I can destroy one of yours! And you take damage equal to half of that monster's attack points!"
A vortex of pressurized air suddenly engulfed Sparkman and destroyed him, causing Jaune to shield himself from the backlash as his life points were once again reduced.
(Chazz: 3600/ Jaune: 2400 - 800 = 1600)
"Now I activate the trap card, Call of the Haunted!" Chazz's facedown flipped up to reveal an image of a cemetery with a ghostly mist rising from it. "It lets me select one monster card from my graveyard and summon it back to the field in attack mode. Rise Chthonian Soldier!"
Chthonian Soldier reappeared brandishing his sword for combat.
(Chthonian Soldier [Monster/Effect] Warrior/DARK [Level 4] ATK; 1200/ DEF; 1400)
"But he won't be staying on the field for long, because I'm going to sacrifice him to summon Mefist the Infernal General!"
Rising from a mist of shadows was an armored warrior riding upon an undead steed. This warrior had a battle axe for a weapon, and his armor was as black as the night.
(Mefist the Infernal General [Monster/Effect] Fiend/DARK [Level 5] ATK; 1800/ DEF; 1700)
Most duelists in Jaune's situation would have been intimidated by the opposing monster. Especially since he has only 1600 life points left. One attack from Mefist the Infernal General, and he's done for! Instead, he looked rather bored.
"Is that all you've got?" Jaune asked. "Because I've faced off with more intimidating monsters back home."
Chazz growled under his breath before smirking and saying "You're something else, slacker, to act so bold and confident under these circumstances. But your lousy monsters won't get you out of this jam."
'Kuri kuri.'
Jaune looked down at his card and quietly said "I know he's wrong, Winged Kuriboh."
'Kuri kuri!' the adorable winged puffball chirped with a wink.
Jaune looked back up at Chazz and looked him dead in the eye as his pure white aura began to glow, stunning Chazz and the rest of the audience, who had no idea what aura is or what it can do.
"My monsters aren't lousy, Chazz, and do you know why? It's because we have a bond! A bond that is strengthened by the heart of the cards!" Jaune declared.
He closed his eyes and started reaching for his deck.
'Heart of the cards… guide me.'
He drew his next card and opened his eyes to see what it was. And smiled.
"Looks like it's your unlucky day, Chazz, because I just drew exactly what I needed! I activate Miracle Fusion! And with it I'll fuse the Elemental HERO Clayman and Sparkman that are in my graveyard to summon the Elemental HERO Gaia in attack mode!"
Clayman and Sparkman briefly appeared before they entered a swirling vortex and in a flash of light a new hero slammed down onto the field. He was a behemoth of a mech that appeared to be made from polished earth and metal. He stood tall staring down the enemy monster as Jaune's confidence was not misplaced.
(Elemental HERO Gaia [Monster/Fusion/Effect] Warrior/EARTH [Level 6] ATK; 2200/ DEF; 2600)
"And because I was able to summon him, Gaia's effect kicks in! I can choose any one monster on the field and cuts its attack points in half, while Gaia has the same amount added to his attack power!" Jaune explained.
"Say what?!" gasped Chazz.
(Mefist the Infernal General [Monster/Effect] Fiend/DARK [Level 5] ATK; 1800 ÷ 2 = 900/ DEF; 1700)
(Elemental HERO Gaia [Monster/Fusion/Effect] Warrior/EARTH [Level 6] ATK; 2200 + 900 = 3100/ DEF; 2600)
"Lucky for you, this ability only lasts until the end of my turn, but you can bet I'm gonna put that power to good use! So charge, Gaia! Destroy his Infernal General!"
Gaia raised one of his enormous fists, and shot a blast of energy from his gauntlet. The blast instantly destroyed Mefist the Infernal General and really cut Chazz's life points down to size.
(Chazz: 3600 - 2200 = 1400/ Jaune: 1600)
"And with that, I end my turn. And with my turn over, Gaia's attack power returns to its original 2200." Jaune said.
(Elemental HERO Gaia [Monster/Fusion/Effect] Warrior/EARTH [Level 6] ATK; 3100 - 900 = 2200/ DEF; 2600)
Up in the stands, everyone was impressed by the sudden comeback that Jaune was making. He went from having the lowest life point count to having more life points than Chazz does. If only barely. From the teacher's podium, Crowler was silently seething at how this slacker was managing to hold his own against one of his Obelisks. But he was confident that Chazz would be able to beat this slacker and put him in his place once and for all.
Meanwhile, Chazz wordlessly drew his next card and scowled. He didn't have any monsters that could take out that Elemental HERO, nor could they wipe out Jaune's life points in one go like he'd prefer to do. He could only try and stall for time.
"I'll set a card facedown." a card appeared on Chazz's field. "And that's it."
Jaune wordlessly drew a card himself, all while glancing at that facedown card. After his last two experiences he had a gut feeling that it was a trap card. And he honestly didn't want to have to put up with any more of Chazz's cheap parlor tricks.
'I've got to get rid of that facedown if I'm going to win this duel! Fortunately, this spell card I just drew will work perfectly.' Jaune thought to himself while out loud he said "I don't trust your facedown card, so I'll play my Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy it and clear your field of any hidden surprises!"
Chazz cursed as a cyclone shot out from the card Jaune just played and flipped his own card faceup, revealing it to have been his own Mirror Force card, and destroying it.
"You put up a good fight, Chazz, but now it's time to end this duel! Elemental HERO Gaia, attack!"
Gaia reared back his fist and rocketed forward before landing a solid haymaker to Chazz's gut, causing Chazz to cough up saliva from the impact before falling to his knees.
(Chazz: 1400 - 2200 = 0/ Jaune: 1600)
"And that's game!" said Jaune as he gave a two-fingered salute.
As the holograms faded out, the crowd erupted into applause with the Slifers cheering the loudest at Jaune's win against an Obelisk Blue student. And one of their most promising freshmen, to boot.
"Jaune did it, he won!"
"Alright!" "Woo!" cheered Jasmine and Mindy.
'Would you look at that, he really beat Chazz and made quite a comeback. I can tell he's going to make it far here at the academy, and will one day step out from his father's shadow.' Alexis thought with a smile.
As Chazz skulked off to get ready for classes, Jaune looked at his Winged Kuriboh card with a smile on his face.
"This is it, buddy. You and I are gonna keep dueling until we make it to the top! And no one's gonna stop us!" he said to the spirit in his card.
'Kuri kuri!" chirped Winged Kuriboh with a wink.
