Chapter Thirty-eight
Ragnarok
After dinner, Sakura went into her room to change her clothes. Tomoyo had picked out a red dress for her, which was waiting for her on the bed.
She got dressed in it and went to the bathroom, thinking that Meiling had been locked in there for a long time. As Sakura was about to knock on the door, she heard her voice. She was on the phone.
"So will you do it?"
Sakura stood with her hand raised, listening.
"As soon as you have them, send them to me."
She blinked several times in confusion, not understanding anything Meiling was saying. She shivered at the sound of her laughter.
"Of course, I'll tell you all about it. It's going to be a lot of fun."
Sakura decided she had heard enough and knocked on the door. She heard Meiling say goodbye quietly before opening the door.
"What?"
"You've been here for over half an hour and I need to go inside to put on my make-up," Sakura replied.
"Make-up? You already have a boyfriend, you shouldn't doll yourself out so much."
Sakura frowned.
"I don't dress up for boys. I do it for me and because I like it."
Meiling rolled her eyes.
"If you say so..." she muttered, leaving the bathroom at a brisk pace.
Sakura followed her with her eyes until she saw her slip into Chiharu's room and went in, pulling her toiletry bag out from under the sink. In a moment she had Tomoyo beside her, begging for some space in front of the mirror. She was wearing a burgundy dress and putting on lipstick of the same colour.
Sakura smiled and concentrated on outlining her eyes. It was their first night out in Tokyo and she wanted everyone to have a great time.
The Ragnarok nightclub was as gigantic as they had been told. It was on the outskirts of Tokyo, it had four floors and an outdoor terrace where they could also listen to music.
Sakura entered with her three friends and glanced up, widening her eyes. In the centre of the room, they could see the balconies of the other floors, where people were leaning out or dancing.
They approached the bar and ordered a drink. The boys had not yet arrived and with so many people around it would be difficult to find them.
When the four of them had their drinks, they climbed the stairs to the first floor and stood near one of the balconies overlooking the central hall. Sakura occasionally looked down, trying to find Syaoran in the crowd.
She set her glass down on a high table next to her and started to dance with Tomoyo. When the song ended, she went back to the table to get her drink, but before she could do so, arms wrapped around her waist tightly.
She panicked, squirming to free herself from the grip, but the fear disappeared when she met Syaoran's amber eyes. She sighed and raised her arms, wrapping them around his neck.
"You scared me, I thought it wasn't you."
"Is that cup yours?" he asked, pointing to the glass on the table.
Sakura nodded, trying to kiss him, but Syaoran pulled away and glared at her.
"You can't leave your drink unattended, Sakura. Tokyo is a big city and there are a lot more dangers than in Tomoeda. Someone might have spilled something in your glass while you weren't looking."
Sakura shivered a little. She knew he was right.
"I didn't think of that..." she murmured, ducking her head and averting her gaze.
He lifted her chin with one hand.
"It's all right, but be careful from now on. Don't drink any more from there, I'll get you a drink and you can't put it down until you finish it."
Sakura nodded and he got lost in the crowd. She looked around and saw that Eriol and Takashi were also standing next to them. All three boys were wearing shirts, each in a different colour.
Takashi held Meiling's hands and started dancing with her in a funny way, while Chiharu and Tomoyo laughed at the sight of them.
A few minutes later, Syaoran's arm appeared in front of Sakura. She held the cup he was offering her and smiled.
"Thank you, you're always looking out for me."
Syaoran smiled as well, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
"You look beautiful, as always."
"You, too. You look great in dark clothes," she replied, looking at his black shirt.
"That's because I'm not as pale as the Japanese," he commented teasingly, leaving a kiss on her cheek.
Sakura poked him in the ribs, taking a few steps towards Chiharu. The seven of them danced with each other for a while. Sakura was very amused by Takashi's gestures and gaped as Syaoran danced with Tomoyo.
Someone put a hand on her shoulder and she turned around. Yue was right behind her.
"You came!" she shouted, the music was getting too loud.
He nodded with a smile. Sakura called out to the others and introduced Yue to them. Meiling looked him up and down and smirked as she raised an eyebrow.
"Will you dance a little with me?" Yue asked Sakura.
She agreed and saw Meiling's pouting face, but ignored her. A lively song began to play, and the eight of them got together in pairs. Yue held Sakura's hand and spun her around several times. She couldn't stop laughing, that night was being funnier than she expected.
When the song ended, Sakura gave Yue a tiny smile.
"I'll be right back," she said, walking over to where Syaoran was with Chiharu.
She set her empty glass on the table and walked over to him.
"You're not angry, are you?" she asked close to his ear.
Syaoran arched an eyebrow, shaking his head.
"You can dance with anyone you want, I trust you. But don't anyone dare touch you where they don't belong or I'll punch them."
She let out a giggle, holding onto his neck with both arms.
"I want to dance with you now."
A mischievous smile curved his lips.
"That could be dangerous because I'm going to touch you," he murmured in her ear.
He circled her waist, pulling her closer to his body until they were completely glued together. He pressed their foreheads together and looked into her eyes. Sakura's heart skipped a beat as she felt that intense gaze on her.
They started to move to the rhythm of the music and she had the impression that the people around them were disappearing. It was just the two of them. She could feel his breath on her face and his hands moving up and down her back... Sometimes they went too low.
Sakura bit her lip and rushed at Syaoran to kiss him. He responded to her kiss in a very passionate way, holding her tighter in his arms.
She buried both hands in his brown hair and gasped. She couldn't even hear the music anymore. Her lower body seemed to be on fire and she knew Syaoran felt the same, she could tell through his clothes.
A surge of desire swept through her and she deepened the kiss further. Syaoran growled and pulled away from her lips, their foreheads still together.
"We can't do this here. I feel like taking you to the bathroom and doing everything to you."
Sakura blushed a little.
"I'm looking forward to that, too."
"We'll leave in a couple of hours... Will you come to sleep with me?" he asked, caressing her skin.
Sakura nodded, still breathing heavily. Syaoran ran his hands up her back and held her shoulders, kissing her again for a few seconds.
"We'd better calm down."
She chuckled and wrapped her arms around his neck again. A calmer song was playing. Syaoran sighed and looked around, placing his hands on her waist.
Tomoyo and Eriol were also very lovey-dovey dancing together. Chiharu was jumping to the music and laughing with Takashi. Meiling was with Yue, though she had her reddish gaze fixed on Syaoran.
He rolled his eyes and moved so that his back was to her.
"Meiling's starting to get on my nerves," he grunted in annoyance.
"What's wrong?" Sakura asked, lifting her head from his chest.
"She's fooling around with Yue just to make me jealous. It seems that she still doesn't get that I haven't been interested in what she does with her life for years."
Sakura hugged Syaoran tighter and stood on her tiptoes, looking over his shoulder. Meiling couldn't take her eyes off them. She snorted in annoyance and pulled away again, looking him in the eyes.
"When she came over, she told me that you and I aren't going to last long together."
Syaoran gave him a crooked smile.
"That's what she'd like... but I know you're the last girl I'm going to be with."
She flinched at his words.
"You always say things like that to me... How can you be so sure?"
"Something inside of me is telling me that. Besides, I've never felt before what I feel for you," he said, shrugging.
She smiled, kissing his cheek.
"I want you to be the last, too, Syaoran."
He cupped her face with both hands and left a sweet kiss on her lips.
When they got tired of being there, they left the club and ordered two taxis. Sakura said goodbye to her friends and got into one with Syaoran, Eriol and Takashi. Meiling, Chiharu, Tomoyo and Yue shared the other one.
The next morning, Sakura couldn't help but smile as she woke up in Syaoran's arms. She left the room to go to the bathroom and when she came back he was already awake, making the bed.
"Aren't you glad I brought your pyjamas?" he asked in a mocking voice.
She nodded with a smile.
"What makes me lazy is having to put my dress back on to go home."
Syaoran raised an eyebrow and took a few steps towards his wardrobe. He was only wearing boxers and Sakura's pulse quickened at the sight of his back muscles as he opened a drawer.
"I forgot to tell you about this. I was thinking about it and I brought a couple of your outfits in my backpack to leave them here."
Sakura came to his side and saw that in one of his drawers were two shirts, a pair of trousers and a skirt that were hers. She looked up, puzzled.
"When did you take those? I didn't even notice."
"The other day. This way, you can change your clothes and not have to leave with last night's dress when you sleep here."
"That's a good idea. You might as well leave some of your clothes and a pair of pyjamas in my room for when you stay there," she said, stroking his back with one hand.
He glanced sideways at her and kissed her forehead.
"Okay, next time I'll do that."
Sakura took off her pyjamas, leaving them in the drawer, and put on her trousers and a blue shirt.
"I have to go study, I'll see you in class tomorrow," she said, hugging him.
He returned her embrace and the manly smell of his grey sweatshirt surrounded her. He walked her to the lift, kissing her deeply before letting her go. Sakura kept touching her lips until she stepped out onto the street. She was sure she was going to remember that kiss all day long.
