The next day, after the bar brawl Reagan was more than ready to go home and continue her boring classes. Iowa had not turned out to be quite as she had been expecting, but then again she wasn't expecting her roommate to hold her liquor and patch up a local all in one night. Reagan dawned her cadet uniform and made her way over to the launch pad, where Bethany and Nyota were waiting for her.

"Late night?" Nyota asked.

Reagan shrugged, "I'm looking forward to a shower and a night out that doesn't end in a brawl."

"I second that notion."

Bethany shook her head, "I feel bad for that local boy. Not only did he receive a punch from a cadet, but he got "the talk" from Pike."

Reagan scoffed, "He's probably not going to join. Besides, he doesn't know what it means to sacrifice for the greater good."

"I wouldn't be so sure."

Reagan left the conversation at that and went to grab the pad to look at their recruit levels and was happy to see they had met their quota for that trip. She can only hope this would satisfy Commander Spock and get him off her ass. She was tired of being his go to for away missions. She would much rather have been at home improving her phaser.

The three girls entered the tiny shuttle and sat in a row, conversing over what they would do once they landed back at the academy. Reagan was looking at the new specs that Spock had sent her when she heard Bethany gasp beside her. She looked up to find the local boy, Jim, from before and if it was possible he was even more cocky.

"At ease, Gentlemen." Jim said, looking at the cadets that had jumped him previously before looking at Bethany, Reagan, and Nyota. "Never did get that first name."

"And you never will." Nyota replied.

Reagan bit her lip to stop from laughing. Jim looked at Reagan and sent her a wink to which she just rolled her eyes. She could see him for what he really was, and only hoped this would be the last time she saw him. However, to her dismay he had chosen to sit directly across from them with his gaze fixed solely on Bethany. Reagan had to give it to her roommate though as her nose was buried in a tablet and she hadn't looked up to see her admirer.

On the other side of the shuttle came a shouting match between a female flight officer and a homeless man. He looked less than impressed at the shuttle, and Reagan couldn't blame him. The thing was tiny and it took one wrong turn for their lives to be cut short. Reagan looked at the man with curiosity as he looked older than the rest of the recruits with a worn down jacket and rundown boots to complete his look.

"Are you people deaf? I told you I don't need a doctor, damnit! I AM A DOCTOR!"

"You need to find a seat -"

"I had one, in the bathroom, Darlin', with no windows-"

"Sir, for your own safety,-"

"I suffer from Aviophobia, case you don't understand big words, it means 'fear of dying in something that flies.'"

"- siddown, or I will MAKE you sit down... do you hear me? RIGHT NOW."

The two continued to have a glaring mask and frankly Reagan was surprised he didn't just get off the shuttle. He clearly didn't want to be there. Reagan watched as the man dropped into the seat beside Kirk. The shuttle begins to lift and maneuver to the right pattern as Reagan reaches for Bethany's hand, who had offered it without looking up from the commotion.

The man turned to look at Jim, "I might throw up on you."

Jim's eyes widened in slight alarm, "I think these things are pretty safe."

Reagan snorted and the man glanced over at her, "Got something to say?"

"He's clearly never traveled in one before." Reagan said. "I can't stand these things. I would much rather be aboard a starship right now."

"Well the two of you should probably get used to them." Jim said.

"Don't pander to me, kid," The mad stated. "One tiny crack in the hull and our blood boils in thirteen seconds. Solar flare might crop up, cook us in our seats. Hell, some of the damn passengers are blue. And wait'll you're sitting pretty with a case of Andorian shingles, see if you're still so relaxed when your eyeballs are bleeding. Space is disease and danger, wrapped in darkness and silence."

Reagan found herself nodding with everything the man said, even if she only understood half of it. She looked over to find Bethany had finally joined the living only to find her staring at Jim with a satisfied grin. Reagan looked over to find Jim looking anywhere but her gaze. Reagan hadn't had the chance to talk to Bethany about what happened in the bar, but it must've been good if Jim wouldn't look at the Burnette.

"Thought Starfleet wasn't for you?" Bethany asked.

Jim looked at her, "I like a challenge."

Reagan scoffed, "I'm sure."

Jim looked between the two and decided it wasn't worth it before looking back at his seat neighbor, "I hate to break this to you, but Starfleet operates in space."

"Yeah, well my ex-wife took the whole damn planet in the divorce. All I've got left is my bones." The man said. "Leonard McCoy at your service."

"Jim Kirk." Jim introduced himself.

"Reagan Kelley." Reagan said, causing Leonard to look at her. "If you want to vent about space just let me know."

"I'll keep that in mind."

Bethany offered him a soft smile, "Bethany O'Neal. I heard you're a doctor so I'm sure we'll see more of each other."

"Why's that?"

"Because she's going to be a nurse." Reagan interjected.

"Really?" Leonard looked at the girl in surprise. "You look like you would faint at the sight of blood."

Jim laughed, "Trust me she can hold her own."

"I take that as a compliment." Bethany said.

"You should." Jim replied, before looking over at Leonard once more. "You really gonna throw up?"

"Maybe."

Reagan scrunched her nose up, "Well do me a favor and aim nowhere near me please."

"No promises."
