━━ Trigger Happy Kelley

Reagan entered the bridge with a resounding whoosh. Many of the men and women turned to look at her, but her focus remained on Captain Christopher Pike. The man stood and moved to greet her with a handshake and a smile.
"Miss Kelley."
"Captain." She replied.
"I trust our weapon capabilities are at full strength?"
Reagan nodded, "Did the inspection myself and everything looks to be in order. Just let me know when I can do a test run."
"Has anyone ever told you your trigger happy?"
"Not to my face."
Pike laughed and returned to the captain's chair as Reagan took her place at her consul. It lit up like a Christmas tree as she maneuvered various commands until she was happy with the set up. She turned to look back at the turbo lift so see Commander Spock step off looking just as stoic as usual.
"Mister Spock."
"Captain." Spock greeted him. "Engineering reports ready for launch."
"Thank you. Ladies and gentlemen, the maiden voyage of our newest flagship deserves more pomp and circumstance than we can afford today. A christening will just have to be our reward for a safe return. Carry on."
Reagan felt excitement coursing through her body at the thought of the Enterprise's maiden voyage. She felt blessed to be in her post as she looked over the trajectory of their journey. It wouldn't be a long one, but it would make an excellent test run of their capabilities. Not only of the ship, but of the crew as well.
Pike pressed the communicator on his chair and spoke to the ship, "All decks, this is Captain Pike, prepare for immediate departure. Helm, thrusters."
Reagan smiled when she spotted the Asian man in the helm's chair. She knew that this position meant everything to Sulu, especially because it had been given to him by chance. She sent him a smile of encouragement as he twisted around to ready the Enterprise.
"Moorings retracted, Captain. Dock control reports ready. Thrusters, fired. Separating from Spacedock."
Reagan felt the ship shake as they detached from the spacedock. She watched the process in awe. It still amazed her after all these years how Starfleet continues to improve itself. Especially as it updates its fleets.
"The fleet's cleared Spacedock, Captain. All ships are ready for warp." Sulu announced
"Set course for Vulcan."
"Aye aye, Captain. Course laid in."
"Maximum warp. Punch it."
Sulu brought the accelerator down and Reagan, along with all the other officers waited for the ship to launch forward, but an ugly sound emitted from the engines. Reagan looked down to find the turbines overworking themselves, but for what reason she didn't know.
"Lieutenant, where's Helmsman McKenna?"
"He has lungworm, sir. He couldn't report to his post."
"I'm Hikaru Sulu." Sulu offered.
"And you are a pilot, right?" Pike asked.
"Uh, very much so, sir. I'm, uh, not sure what's wrong." Sulu answered, turning to look at his consol.
"Is the parking brake on?"
"Uh, no. I'll figure it out, I'm just, uh…"
"Have you disengaged the external inertial dampener?" Spock asked, although it sounded more like he was telling the man.
Sulu looked less than thrilled as he hit a blue button on his screen. He turned to look at Pike, "Ready for warp, sir."
"Let's punch it."
The ship launched forward in minutes and once again Reagan was in awe of her job. She tuned out Pike as he made a system wide broadcast and focused on triple checking her weapons. She sent orders to the men in the weapons bay as well as submitted reports to Spock, who hadn't acknowledged her presence yet.
She smiled as heard Pavel struggle with the authorization code, but stopped when Pike stood to speak with her. She nodded her head in acknowledgment and twisted her report so that he could view it. He looked over it carefully before nodding in approval.
"I'm assuming Spock told Sulu to disengage the parking brake?"
Reagan snorted, "How could you tell Captain?"
"Are you sassing me?"
"Don't think you're special."
"I'm not sure if that's comforting or not." Pike answered, before returning to his seat.
Reagan returned to her assignments as they got ready to protect should Vulcan need it. However, as the turbo lift made its whoosh of arrival a loud commotion came from inside. Reagan raised her eyebrow in curiosity, but was surprised at the amount of people that exited the lift. Jim Kirk followed by Leonard, Bethany, and Nyota.
"Captain!"
Leonard tried to grab Jim, but failed, "Jim, no!"
Jim made his way towards Pike with Bethany in tow, "Captain Pike, we have to stop the ship!"
"Kirk, how the hell did you get on board the Enterprise?" Pike asked and looked between Leonard and Bethany for an explanation.
Bethany tried to explain gently, "Captain, this man's under the influence of a -
"Severe reaction of a Melvaran flea vaccine, completely-" Leonard cut her off.
"Bones, Beth…" Jim tried to interject to explain, but Bethany shushed him.
"-delusional. I take full responsibility." Leonard finished.
"We both do." Bethany added.
Reagan smiled at her friend's bravery towards Pike. Out of everyone that had known Bethany at the academy and before, Reagan knew what Pike's approval meant to her. Reagan watched as Pike eyed the girl as if waiting for her to tell him the truth. Bethany stood her ground and Reagan couldn't be more proud. Pike returned his gaze to Jim as the cadet offered an explanation.
"Vulcan is not experiencing a natural disaster. It's being attacked by Romulans."
"Romulans?" Pike asked, although he didn't believe him. "Cadet Kirk, I think you've had enough attention for one day. McCoy take him back to medical. O'Neal we'll have words later."
"Aye Captain."
"Yes Captain Pike."
Bethany tried her best to guide Jim away, but Jim wasn't having it, "Look, sir, that same anomaly-"
"Mister Kirk."
"Mister Kirk is not cleared to be aboard this vessel." Spock interjected.
"Look, I get it, you're a great orator. I'd love to do it again with you too." Jim acknowledged the uptight Vulcan.
"I can remove the Cadet."
"Try it! This Cadet is trying to save the bridge." Jim said, turning to face Spock.
"I think we should hear him out commander." Reagan said.
"By recommending a full stop mid-warp during a rescue mission?" Spock said, looking over at Reagan, but the question was directed at Jim.
"It's not a rescue mission, listen, it's an attack."
