All Bethany felt was cold as she slowly opened her eyes. She was surrounded by metal and yet the surface upon which she laid upon was warm. She turned to find Jim sound asleep with his arm wrapped securely around her waist. She felt more than a little confused as she tried to remember how they got into this position. She knew that Spock wanted Jim off the enterprise and she had moved to defend him, but she hadn't thought he would ship her off as well.
Jim stirred underneath her and she looked down to see his eyes open in a haze before focusing on her, "What happened?"
"Spock is mean." She responded and tried to move off him, but he only held her tighter.
"Aggh. Computer, where am I?"
The duo waited for the pod to respond monotonically, "Location: Delta Vega. Class-M planet. Unsafe. There is a Starfleet outpost fourteen kilometers to the northwest. Remain in your pod until... summoned authorities."
"Well at least it's cozy." Jim muttered looking back at Bethany.
She let out a laugh, "Oh, you've got to be kidding me."
"What?" He asked, but Bethany didn't respond.
Instead she exited the pod and began to climb up the hole their pod had landed in. It was steep, but she was glad she had gone to train with Reagan when she had offered it. She pulled herself onto the ledge and swung her body over. The weather was less than ideal as she wrapped her hands around herself in a poor attempt to maintain body heat.
Jim had followed behind her and wrapped his arms around her as the two looked at the desolate planet. As far as Bethany could tell it was completely deserted with no sign of life on the surface. She turned to give Jim a worried look but he was pulling out his communicator to attempt any sort of contact with nearby Starfleet bases.
"Stardate twenty-two fifty-eight point four two, four uh, four whatever. Acting Captain Spock has marooned me and Chief Nursing Office Bethany O'Neal on Delta Vega, what I believe to be a violation of security protocol forty-nine point oh nine, covering the treatment of prisoners aboard a starship." Jim turns the piece of technology and looks over to BEthany as her teeth begin to chatter, "Let's get you into something warm."
Bethany keeps above ground as Jim once again descends toward their shared pod to grab the emergency jackets. He throws them up toward her and she immediately wraps herself in the warmth. She helps him back up the slope before zipping him up in his jacket as well. Bethany allows Jim take her hand as the two head off to see what's out there.
Bethany stays close to him as she states, "This was not in the Starfleet pamphlet."
"Tell me about it." Jim sighed. "Are you okay?"
Bethany shivered, "I'm alright. What about you? How's your head?"
They stop for a moment as she inspects the cut, trying to be as gentle as possible. Jim flinched away from her and hissed. She put her hand down and instead of looking down she looked determined. She was also angry that a captain felt it pertinent to maroon two of his officers on a desolate planet, when a mad man is trying to destroy planets with a giant drill. In her eyes his logical decision was nothing but crap.
A loud growl caught the couples attention as they turned to see a giant monster headed their way. Jim grabbed Bethany and began leading them in the opposite direction. When the two turned back they saw an even bigger beast eat the one chasing them, before setting its sights on them. Bethany tried her best to keep up as she pointed towards a cavern hidden in the storm.
"There!"
Jim pulled the two as they continued running until they were deeper into the cave. Just as Bethany found a smaller cavern that the beast couldn't fit through, the monster grabbed hold of Jim and pulled… hard. Bethany went flying into the side of the cave and felt slightly dizzy as her vision turned blurry. When she looked up she saw a figure waving a torch at the monster, before turning to look at Jim.
"James T. Kirk."
"Excuse me?" Jim asked, before looking over at Bethany and watching her struggle to stand in pain. "Beth!"
Bethany allowed Jim to help her up as he held her close to him, causing Bethany to laugh, "I'm alright Casanova."
Jim shook his head, "You're fine if I say you're fine."
"Who has the degree here?"
"Don't pull the educational rank on me!"
"You haven't changed."
The two looked over at the man that now looked strangely familiar. He was wearing a large winter coat and ahd features that were almost certainly Vulcan in descent. Bethany raised her eyebrow, "Who are you?"
"How do you know my name?" Jim asked.
"I have been, and always shall be, your friend." The man answered.
"That doesn't answer his question." Bethany said.
"I am Spock."
"Bullshit." Jim cursed.
"Language James." Bethany chastised. "That still doesn't answer our question."
"Follow me." He said as he led them into where a makeshift fire was going deep within the cave. "It is remarkably pleasing to see you again, old friend. Especially after the events of today."
"Uh, sir I appreciate what you did for us today, but, but if you were Spock you would know we're not friends at all. You hate me, you marooned me here for mutiny." Jim exclaimed, settling Bethany next to him and allowing her to lean against him.
"Mutiny?" Older Spock asked.
"Yes." Jim replied.
"You are not the Captain?" He asked. "Are you two, at least, married?"
Bethany's eyes widened in alarm as did Jim's as the girl yelped, "What do you mean married?"
"You are supposed to be married. If not now then sometime in the future."
Jim stared at him, "No, no. Umm... you're the Captain. Pike was taken hostage and made me your second. Also Bethany and I aren't even dating."
Older Spock sighed, "By Nero."
"Hold up, what do you mean married?" Bethany said, still caught by surprise.
Older Spock smiled at her, "I'm glad to see you are still the same Beth."
"What do you know about him?" Jim asked. "What do you know about us?"
"He is a particularly troubled Romulan. Please, allow me. It will be easier." Spoc held out his hand, but both Bethany and Jim backed away.
"Whoah, whoah. What are you doin'?"
"Our minds. One and together."
Bethany placed her hand on Jim's and nodded, "It'll be okay."
Spock placed his hands on their temples before beginning, "One hundred twenty-nine years from now, a star will explode, and threaten to destroy the galaxy…"
