Did I decide to write this because the tenth anniversary happened recently? Yes. Yes, I did. (I'm honestly still shocked that it's already been that long. Year twenty is going to make me wonder where on Earth the time went, but that's for future me to deal with.) I wouldn't say that this is a new plot bunny, but it has significantly evolved from what it was originally going to be. And, y'all, I'm really excited with what I have!

A few more things before we begin:

1.) Unlike most of the characters, you'll pretty much know from the beginning what kind of supernatural creature the main OC, Boof, is. It would have been made into a "what do you think she is?" game, but that quickly got tossed out the window when I began writing the first chapter.

2.) Right now, Fairy Tale is rated T for: language, violence, and mentions of blood. If there are any triggers, I'll list them in the first author's note.

3.) Disclaimer: I do not own the Teen Wolf movies, show, or books.

Contrary to popular belief, not every narrative has to be filled with pixie dust that helps the protagonists fly to a world of eternal youth, nor must it have a handsome prince who whisks the kind-hearted princess away to a life of luxury. Endings are not always wrapped in shiny bows or includes a grand, romantic gesture that erases all the bad stuff – because not everything can be brushed under rugs with wide smiles and cheerful ballroom dances where dresses shift from blue to pink to blue again.

It's as real as anything that could be heard in passing, whispered during coffee breaks while stale doughnuts that should be tossed in the trash are mindlessly nibbled on. Speculation is made, when the line between what is fact and what is a product of a long, poorly played game of telephone begins to blur. Or, perhaps, it's a bit more fantastical than what's reported in the news – where monsters are real, their sharp fangs dripping with blood and venomous nails emerging from seemingly ordinary fingertips.

This isn't a fairy tale – not in the modern sense, at least. It's a story of defeat, of sorrow that eternally rattles ribcages with never-ending sobs. But above everything, it's about love. And friendship - always friendship. After all, what other force is strong enough to go hell and back to bring those who have been lost home?

Still. . . .

Once upon a time, somewhere that looks like any small town where nothing interesting ever happens, there was an unusual girl who felt completely out of place and a boy who would have laid down his life for her without question.

So, of course, they were doomed from the start.
