I stare at Henry's golden glowing heart in my hand, while that little demon falls on his knees.
My boy's heart.
I have it.
I smile looking at the magical organ as a sense of relief washes over me.
The lump on my throat is finally over now.
And I can finally breathe again.
I look down to the ground and see Pan trying to reach the Pandora Box, the one that is supposed to be holding Gold now.
I quickly squat and take the box with my free hand, before his diabolic fingers can even touch the metal material.
"Now," I look from the objects in my hands to Emma and Snow "Let's go save Henry"
Emma nods at me while Snow just looks… shocked.
Which is kind of shocking, considering we both come from The Enchanted Forest.
Surely, she's seen far worse than that.
Especially coming from me.
I summon my magic to teleport us to the beach and when the smoke clear, I see The Jolly Roger already on the open sea.
Good!
I summon my magic again and this time, I teleport us aboard the pirate's ship.
"Henry?" Emma shouts the second our feet touch that rotten wood "Where is he?"
"He is over here," Neal shouts, behind the rudder.
I run in his direction and kneel down next to my little Prince's lifeless body on the floor.
"Hold on, Henry,"
I gently hold his glowing heart with both my hands on top of his chest and then, take a deep breath.
I feel Emma staring at me when she keels right beside me and then her hand gently squeezing my arm.
And that's all the encouragement I need.
I carefully push Henry's heart inside his chest and when the heart disappears inside of him, I see how my hands are shaking.
I look at Henry waiting for him to wake up, but nothing happens.
Every second feels like minutes, hours even.
Everything is silent and I feel that even the wind stopped blowing and waters moving.
All I hear is the deep sound of all of our breaths while we look at Henry.
Emma's hand squeezes my arm again, but I don't dare look at her.
I can't take my eyes off my little boy, not even for a second.
"Are we too late?" Emma asks, beside me.
No!
No, we can't be!
"Henry?" I call his name.
Nothing!
He doesn't move.
I feel my heart race inside my chest as desperation starts to take over me.
Please, Gods, please.
Please!
I can't lose my little boy.
"Honey?" I raise my voice, shaking his lifeless body.
And then the sound that forever will be imprinted in my mind as recognition of happiness and relief escapes Henry's lips when he gasps for air.
Henry looks at us confused as I look down at him with a smile on my face and tears running down my eyes.
He's alive.
He's safe.
I saved him.
Henry sits down on the floor and launches himself on me and Emma and we hold our little boy inside our arms with all force.
Emma's eyes find mine while we are holding Henry and she smiles at me.
Her hand moves to take mine on Henry's back and she squeezes it and I close my eyes for a second.
Because this moment, right here, with Henry in my arms, safe and sound and Emma beside me holding my hand can only be described as utterly happiness.
"I'm sorry," Henry says in a weak voice and turn his head to look at me "I wanted to save magic"
"It's okay, it's okay," Emma says, running her hands on his back.
"I wanted to be a hero," Henry says.
"There is plenty of time for that," Charming says behind me.
"And now, it's time to rest," Snow says, behind me as well.
"Welcome back, young Sir," Hook says "Only our best for our guest of honor, don't you think? Captain's quarters"
"Come on," I smile softly at my little boy "I'll tuck you in"
Emma smiles at me and runs her hand on Henry's hair, messing it up.
We stand up and so does Henry, but he doesn't last long.
The second he gets up, his legs fail him and he nearly falls.
Thank the Gods, I'm quicker and put my arms around his waist to keep him up.
"I'm dizzy," Henry says, scratching his head.
"It's okay," I say "You've been through enough"
I bent down slightly and take Henry in my arms.
He wraps his arms around my neck and his legs around my waist, resting his head on my shoulder just like he used to do when he was younger.
It's so good to feel Henry closer to me again.
"Are you sure you can carry him?" Emma asks, patting his back "The kid is heavy"
"It's fine," I put my hand on his back and hold him more tightly.
We walk through the ship with Emma right behind us.
But when we get to the stairs, Neal calls for her.
She squeezes my arm and leaves to see what he wants and I make my way to the Capitan's quarter with Henry in my arms.
I move my finger in the air to open the door and carefully deposit Henry in the small bed in the room.
I take off his shoes and then cover his body with the blanket before sitting on the bed next to him.
Henry looks at me with the same look he used to give me when he was younger and felt a little bit sick.
"Oh, I know that look," I smile "That's five hours of space paranoids and too much pizza"
"Pizza's good"
And that makes me laugh.
We are definitely having a pizza night when we get back home.
I look down at Henry's chest and feel my features hardened.
I move my hand on top of his heart and summon my magic, letting it flow through my hands while I say the protection incantation in my mind.
Henry's face contorts a little and as much as I hate seeing my little boy in pain, this is necessary.
I should have done this the second he was a baby in my arms.
Or at least the second I got my magic back.
"It stings," Henry says "What is that for?"
"A spell," I say "So no one can ever take your heart. Ever again"
Henry moves his hand to take mine between his, holding it on top of his heart.
"Thanks, mom," Henry says.
And just like that, I feel tears fill my eyes and my heart dance with happiness inside my chest.
This moment, right here, I'm sure it made my heart a little bit redder.
A little less dark.
I lean forward and kiss Henry's forehead, feeling his warm skin against my lips.
Unlike that cold body that I held in my arms when he gave his heart away to that demon.
"We'll be home soon," I say when I pull away from him "My Little Prince"
I smile at Henry and see his little eyes dropping down.
He is one tired Little Prince.
I smile and quietly leave the bed, turning off the lamp and readjusting the covers on his body before leaving the room.
I walk the narrow hallway, going in the directions of the stairs that will take me to the deck.
I'm on the stairs, going up when suddenly I hear Henry's voice.
I stop before taking a step forward and turning around.
"No stop," Henry's voice in pain says "What are you doing?"
I let out a puff of air as my heart starts to race inside my chest.
I run in the direction of the room I left Henry and quickly get inside.
I see Henry lying on the bed, looking a little disoriented.
"Oh, no!" I say, shaking his body "Henry?"
Henry makes a little noise before looking inside my eyes.
"It's okay," Henry says "I'm okay"
"Are you sure?" I ask, already running my hands around his heart.
"He is a strong boy, Regina," Gold says behind me "You raised him well"
And that touches something deep inside me.
Because deep down, in all these eleven years, I was always so terrified of failing Henry.
Of not being capable to raise him well, to protect him.
And those fears only grew stronger after we arrived at this damn island.
And now, hearing that from someone else, it's just… overwhelming.
Because, yes, I did raise him well.
Despite all the darkness inside of me, with Henry, I did something good.
He is kind and gentle and he knows how to love.
Because I taught him that.
I taught him how to love.
Just like he taught me how to love as well.
"Regina?" I hear Emma's voice behind me "Henry?"
"He is okay," I look at Emma "He is okay"
Emma walks in our direction stopping right beside me.
She puts her hand on top of mine, the one still on top of Henry's heart.
Henry's eyes are closed now and his breathing is getting heavier and heavier with each breath he takes.
"We should go outside, let him rest," Emma says.
"I should stay with him," I whisper.
"We need you upstairs," Emma says.
"For what?" I look at her.
"To help us go back home,"
Emma squeezes my hand and then turns to leave.
When I look around the room, I see that Rumple is no longer with us.
I kiss Henry's forehead and whisper sweet dreams in his ear before following Emma outside.
Once out on that deck, Neal explains to me how he used Pan's shadow to leave the island and we come up with a plan to do the same, but better.
Charming and Snow go around the boat moving the lost boys to the sides of the ship.
Emma positions herself with a lighter to light the wick while Neal is holding the coconut in front of the canon.
And I, of course, am in charge of using my magic to make that thing fly us home.
"Ready, Regina?" Emma shouts at me.
I nod at her from the higher position where I stand, rubbing my hands together.
Oh, yes!
I am more than ready to leave this damn island.
Emma lights the wick and when the canon is about to blow, Neal opens the coconut with the shadow inside.
The second I see that dark shadow in the hair I use my magic to trap it.
The thing fights back and I must admit it is pretty strong, but I'm stronger.
I summon more and more of my magic sending that thing right to the mainsail and when the thing finally touches it, the whole mainsail turns black.
"You think it will fly?" Emma asks.
"It has no choice," I say, looking up, a smile playing on my lips.
"Then let's get the hell out of Neverland," Emma says.
Hook moves behind the rudder and in a blink of an eye, the ship is leaving the waters and entering the sky.
We fly high above the clouds and the view is breathtaking.
The moon is big on top of us, silver and bright.
And I can't help staring at it.
It's simply too beautiful not to.
"I'm glad you got your son back, Regina,"
Tinker Bell says beside me and I can't help the little look of surprise I shot at her.
"Seems The Evil Queen was able to love someone after all" Tinker Bell says.
I smile at her little comment.
If she only knew how much I love my little boy.
Henry.
My son!
"Yes, it seems," I nod, looking at her "Seems you were right"
"And you still have good at you" Tinker Bells smiles at me.
I smile back at her and look down at the green glowing thing she is holding in her hands.
"Apparently, you still have some magic in you," I say, pointing at the vial.
"What… What happened?" Tinker Bell asks surprised.
"If I had to guess I'd say that for a moment there, you believed"
Tinker Bells looks at me with such a beautiful smile on her face that for a moment I am reminded of that fairy I met so many years ago in the Enchanted Forest.
And for some reason, that I'm sure is idiotic, that makes me happy.
I don't want to be the cause of anger and pain anymore.
At least, not for her.
I look down at the boat and see Henry talking to that kid, Felix.
I'm about to go down to get Henry away from that boy when I see Emma coming closer to them.
She walks away with Henry and I turn to go after her but before I can get any closer, I see her with her arm on Henry's shoulder talking to Neal.
I don't know what he says to her but that makes Emma smile.
And my heart squeezes uncomfortably inside my chest.
I look down at the rotten woods of the ship before turning my back to them.
I walk to the other side of the ship and look out at the dark night.
Everyone moves around the ship, giving food away and blankets, and whatever everyone needs.
After I don't know how long, I decide to go downstairs to check on Henry.
I don't spot Emma or Neal anywhere and I don't know if that's a good thing or not.
I enter the room and see Henry laying on the bed, sleeping.
I lay down next to him, gently running my fingers on his hair, carefully not to wake him.
And I just stay with him in the room.
Perhaps, I even fell asleep.
The ship is quiet now.
Completely silent.
I carefully leave the bed, not to wake Henry, and make my way out of the room.
When I enter the hallway outside, I see a crowd of lost boys and adults, all sleeping on mattresses on the floor.
Every inch is taken.
I summon my magic and teleport myself up, to the deck.
The night is colder now and the cold wind hits my face even before the smoke from my magic is clear.
I walk to the bow of the ship and look out the dark night, closing my eyes before breathing the fresh air.
And the unwelcomed image of Emma and Henry laughing with Neal invades my mind, forcing me to quickly open my eyes.
The tears threaten to appear behind my eyes and I feel that uncomfortable squeeze inside my heart again.
They looked perfect together, didn't they?
"Hey,"
I hear Emma's voice behind me and I quickly use my hands to clear my face from the tears.
"You weren't in Henry's room anymore,"
Emma wraps her arms around my waist and kisses my shoulder and I let myself fall into her touch.
I let myself be held by her just for a second, feel her again just for a second.
Just one last second.
One last second before I push her arms away from my waist and walk away from her.
"What are you doing?" Emma asks, hurt evident in her voice.
"We are going back to Storybrooke," I say, not looking at her.
"And?" Emma asks behind me.
I turn around and face Emma, her beautiful face that was smiling so brightly with Neal earlier.
"And this needs to end," I clear my throat.
"Why?" Emma asks.
"Why?" I laugh sarcastically "Because you are the Savior and I'm The Evil Queen. What do you think the people of Storybrooke will say about that?"
"I don't give a fuck about what they are going to say," Emma walks closer to me "And we are not The Savior and The Evil Queen. We are just Emma and Regina"
"Yeah, well, you say that now," I say, looking down.
"No, I don't,"
Emma comes even closer to me and gently puts her hand on my chin, forcing me to look at her.
"What's really going on?" Emma asks.
"Nothing," I shook my head.
"Regina?" Emma looks deep into my eyes "This is never going to work if you don't talk to me"
"Why do you want to work?" I ask.
"Because I'm crazy about you," Emma smiles "Because I can't wait to go home and be with you and our son"
"An what about Neal?" I ask.
"What about him?" Emma asks "Regina, I don't feel anything for Neal"
"You were smiling at him earlier," I say, my voice breaking a little "You, him, and Henry, the three of you looked… looked like a family"
"So will you, me, and Henry," Emma smiles at me.
And I can't help the smile I give back to her.
"What about your parents?" I ask in a serious voice I don't really feel it.
"Do you want me to wake them up right now?" Emma says seriously, pointing to the back "Because I will if…"
"God, no!" I say quickly.
"Are you done overthinking things?" Emma asks, a soft smile playing on her lips.
"For now," I smile back at her.
"Good,"
Emma leans forwards and captures my lips on a kiss.
And everything in me is at peace again.
Emma wraps her arms around my waist pulling me closer and closer to her, so close that not even air can pass through us.
And I quite like that.
Emma lets out a little moan inside my lips and that sends a shiver through my body that makes all the little hairs in the back of my neck stand up.
And I can't wait to hear that sound over and over and over again, coming from her.
"So, it's her!"
Both Emma and I break apart when we hear Neal's voice.
"She is the one you are in love with," Neal says.
Emma looks at Neal and before she answers him, she takes my hand between hers, intertwining our fingers together.
"Yes, she is," Emma says back to him.
And I don't know why I look at her surprised.
My heart is racing inside my chest, and I feel like the air is stuck in my throat.
"Yeah, I figured," Neal says "You two were acting a little strange for two people who were supposed to hate each other"
"Yeah, well," Emma laughs "As it turns out, the hate was actually something else"
And that makes me smile.
The wind blows making a strand of Emma's hair stop on her face.
I reach for her face with my free hand, trapping the lock behind her ear.
Emma smiles at me so beautifully that for a moment, I feel like my heart has stopped beating.
And then I just run my hand down her beautiful face, feeling her warm skin against my palm.
"It seems like it's mutual,"
"It is," I say, never breaking eyes contact with Emma.
Neal walks closer to us, stopping right in front of me.
I look away from Emma and then at him, waiting for his hateful words.
"Take care of her," Neal says simply.
"I will," I nod at him.
Neal smiles at both of us and then turns his back to leave.
We watch him go, but before he can disappear Emma lets go of my hand and moves to stand in front of me.
"Well, that went well," Emma says.
"There were no hateful words," I say, looking at her "No barks about me poising you or something like that"
"He wouldn't dare," Emma laughs and wraps her arms around my waist "He knows I'd kick his ass if he did"
Emma smiles softly at me and I smile softly back at her.
"Well, that's one down," I say.
"Yeah," Emma laughs "Only nine hundred and ninety-nine to go"
I laugh and so does Emma and I swear this is one of the most wonderful sounds in the world.
I run my hand on her face and Emma closes her eyes, just feeling my touch.
And her smile never leaves her face.
Gods, she is beautiful.
Emma opens her eyes and looks deep into my eyes.
And as crazy as it sounds, I feel like I can see everything she feels for me running behind her eyes.
I lean forward and capture Emma's lips on a kiss.
And this time, there is no shadow of doubt in my mind anymore.
