Chapter 516 Biggest Regret
Jax was relieved when they pulled into the garage at the lake house. It felt like they'd been a battle just to get there with Gemma's fake heart attack, Scarlett's Corvette not starting and the high speed chase that had nearly caused them to wreck. Now, they were finally safe at the lake house. Nothing else was going to go wrong.
"Too much tropical iced tea," Scarlett said as she swiftly unlocked the door, disarmed the security system and walked as fast as she could into the bathroom.
Jax grinned. That always happened when she got that huge tropical iced tea. This time was worse because by driving surface streets, it had added an extra half hour to their drive time.
He unloaded the car putting the groceries in the kitchen and the bags and Scarlett's fire extinguisher in the bedroom. He couldn't help but smile at the memory of her face when she saw it nestled in the tissue paper. The wide-eyed way she looked at him when he explained its purpose was something he would never forget. His words alone almost had her in flames.
They worked quickly putting the food away. He always put away the items that were too heavy for Scarlett to lift and things that required her to bend.
"I think I'll just leave the sandwiches for tonight out because they taste better at room temperature."
"How about we have the ones with the olives tonight?" Jax suggested.
"The Muffulettas? Those were the ones I was thinking of too."
Scarlett walked up to Jax and put her arms around him, lifting her face so he could kiss her.
"What?" Jax asked pretending he didn't know what she wanted.
"You know," she whispered. "Kiss me."
Jax wrapped his arms around Scarlett and gave her one of his melt her bones kisses only this time there was more hunger in it. She was too damned irresistible. She was wearing that exotic spicy perfume he loved and she was so soft and yielding in his arms.
He loved that she appeared so cool, but underneath it all, when she was with him, she turned into this warm passionate creature who felt like magic. He was damned lucky to have her in his life.
"We need to pace ourselves. Wait until tonight," Jax said.
"Why do we have to wait?"
"It's afternoon. We have to wait until bedtime. That's the proper time," Jax said with mock primness.
"Uh-huh. You're an outlaw biker remember? You don't follow rules."
"That is true," Jax said appearing to give the matter some thought. "We should still probably wait." Jax was teasing Scarlett. As far as he was concerned anytime was the right time for sex.
"When Esai came to my store, for a split second I thought I might die. The biggest regret of my life was that we were never together. I was going to tell you that and that I didn't want to wait for the weekend, but my dad turned up."
"Not being with me was your biggest regret?" Jax asked softly.
She nodded looking at him.
Her words squeezed his heart. He didn't think he could love her any more and then something would happen or she would do something or say something and he found himself loving her even more.
"Let's go take care of that right now," he whispered before lowering his head and kissing her softly. He wanted to throw her over his shoulder and carry her to bed, but they would probably end up in the ER and it would be three months before they could even think about having sex. Instead he kissed her while slowly leading from the kitchen, through the living room, down the hall and into the bedroom without being too obvious about it.
Scarlett's bedroom was dark from its blackout drapes but there was a nightlight on in the bathroom that provided just enough light to keep them from tripping over anything.
Jax began to edge his hands under Scarlett's T-shirt his lips still locked on hers when the quiet was shattered by an ear splitting siren.
"Security alarm?" Jax asked.
"Smoke detector," Scarlett said and began to giggle. "We're just too hot together."
Jax swore silently to himself. He just couldn't catch a break. Maybe he would need that fire extinguisher sooner than he thought.
Author's Note: This story has been a little neglected because I was writing Fighting Destiny and now I am wrapping up Taming Ava in the new few weeks. I will post chapters but my main focus will be on finishing Taming Ava so I can devote myself to this story.
I decided to wrap Taming Ava due to the lack of reader response. When readers don't review or provide feedback to the writer, stories go away or get wrapped up quickly. I was going to spread out Taming Ava's ending over ten or so chapters, but with the underwhelming reader response when I said I was wrapping Taming Ava, I'm going to try to do it in five or less chapters.
I suggest that if there's a story you like to read, you let the writer know whether it's this one or another. Writers don't get paid and it's the least you can do. Otherwise, stories don't get new chapters, or they get deleted.
