Chapter 518 Did the Earth Move for You?

(Reviewer's Request)

Author's Note: This is for the reviewer who wanted a chapter before Jax and Scarlett consummate their relationship. It might have been sarcastic, but I couldn't tell from the words, so there is going to be another delay. I was going to take a little break, but since this is a quick chapter I decided to go ahead and just write it. I always try to please readers when I can.

Jax's lips just touched Scarlett's when there was a low rumble. They both had been in enough earthquakes to know that familiar sound. A split second later, the ground began to shake. It always starts slow and builds in intensity. There's no way of telling how long it's going to last or how hard it's going to shake.

There are two shaking motions. One is the familiar side to side like a person is being shaken. The other motion is a rolling motion kind of like surfing the ground. Unless someone is standing, it's not possible to really tell which type of ground shaking is happening.

There weren't any shelves or things located near the bed that could fall on Jax and Scarlett. Automatically, Scarlett looked around to see if something looked like it was going; to fall so she could rescue it. Jax sprang out of bed and was protecting the flat screen TV from falling.

"It's a rolling earthquake," Jax said.

"My favorite."

The ground shook the shaking gaining in intensity as the seconds passed and then with a couple of small jolts, it was over.

"I'd give it a 4.2," Jax said.

"Definitely harder than a 3," Scarlett said. "Do you mind if I check with my father to make sure he's OK."

Sex was going to be put on hold yet again, Jax realized. Well, an earthquake wasn't going to stop them. It might delay them, but short of Scarlett confessing she had a dick and then showing it to him; they were going to finally have sex.

"Go ahead," Jax said. "I'm going to turn on the radio and TV and see if there's word on the epicenter."

Scarlett went to her handbag and grabbed her phone.

The epicenter is the point of origin for an earthquake and where the quake is strongest. Usually within a few minutes, the scientists from Cal Tech can determine the epicenter and a Richter scale reading.

Fortunately, the circuits hadn't yet become jammed with calls and she reached her father. The quake hadn't been much of a jolt where he was and he estimated it as a 3.2. That led Scarlett to believe they were closer to the epicenter.

"I think it was centered in the Bay Area," Scarlett told Jax. "My dad said it wasn't that hard where he is."

At that moment there was another low rumble and the earth began to shake again. Aftershocks typically begin a few minutes after the main quake, but they are not as hard or as long as the main quake. There can be hundreds of them, many so small that they can't be felt.

The radio announced that there were reports of minor damage, but nothing beyond that. Jax shut off the TV and radio took Scarlett by the hand and led her back to bed.

"Normally, I don't make the earth move until after," Jax said joking.

"You think it's a bad omen all the things that have gone wrong?" Scarlett asked feeling a little apprehensive.

Jax wrapped his arms around her.

"No, I don't think so. My mother wasn't really having a heart attack. Your car not starting wasn't a big deal because you have another. We averted being in a car crash, the fire alarm just needed a battery which your father had on hand and the earthquake was minor. We're pretty damned lucky to have come through all that."

"I didn't think of it like that. You're right. We're lucky."

"Now be a good girl and lay down on the bed," Jax said.

Scarlett carefully got into bed while Jax watched her. Nothing else was going to stop them from finally having this time together.

He got into bed, scooting close to Scarlett before covering her mouth with his in one of his melt her bones kisses.

The earth began to move again.
