Subaru continued to work hard for the next couple days. On his fourth day at the mansion, Emilia had some extra free time. She decided that it was time to question Subaru about his situation. They met up in the mansion's courtyard, breathing in the fresh air.

"Huh? You want to know about my past?" Subaru asked, addressing Emilia's first inquiry.

"Yeah, if you're fine with sharing. You seem to know more about me than the average person."

Subaru took a moment to think. Could he really tell her that he came from the future? Even if Envy didn't intervene, he'd probably come off as some lunatic. At the moment, he'd like to avoid that if possible.

There didn't seem to be a reason to tell her as well. Maybe when there really was a reason to tell her, like if he needs to prevent an event, he'd confess.

"Are you gonna tell her, Natsuki Subaru? If not, you can just tell her that you have some extra memories in your head. Speaking of me, of course," Tsubaru said behind him.

Subaru nodded in agreement.

"I have fragmented bits of other people's memories. I can't go that deep into specifics, though I can say that it feels like there's a voice in my head."

"You have other people's memories? By any chance, do you have any of mine, Subaru?" Emilia asked, patiently awaiting his answer.

Subaru turned to Tsubaru for his thoughts. Tsubaru thought about all the information he knew.

"Hmm. I'd probably say no for now. First, I'd like to not trouble her at all since she doesn't know about her past yet. Second, Puck would get suspicious if someone who supposedly had her sealed memories showed up."

That made sense to Subaru. He'd like to eventually open up to her about their pasts though. For now, he'd go along with Tsubaru's plan.

"I don't. Just bits and pieces of information from other people's heads."

"Ah, is that so?" Emilia replied with a disappointed tone.

She was hoping that Subaru could tell her about her past before she got frozen.

"Yeah, sorry," Subaru said.

"Oh, no worries. Don't worry about it. So, why did you come to me in the capital?"

"I saw you in those fragmented memories and it was love at first sight. I just had to come see you."

"Love at first sight? Well isn't that just romantic?" said another voice from behind Emilia.

Lights began to form and move to a single spot above Emilia's head. They compressed into each other until a certain floating cat appeared with a flash.

"Come on Puck. He's probably joking," Emilia said.

"That's not really nice Lia. Look at him, he took a critical hit from those words," Puck said, pointing at Subaru.

"I did not! If she blows off my advances, I'll simply confess my feelings again!" he protested.

"Yeah, yeah. Just don't be a creep about it, okay?"

"If telling Emilia-tan that I love her is being a creep, then so be it."

Subaru sighed and Puck chuckled at their interaction.

"See Lia? Your charms reached even this weirdo's heart. It's sooo hard watching you grow up."

"You're the weirdo here, Puck."

"Hehe Am I? Well, you care for that weirdo, don't you?"

"Yeah."

Emilia thought about Subaru. While it was rude to call him a weirdo, he certainly was a strange boy. He had strange hair, strange clothes and strange items.

"Hey Subaru. What were those things in your bag?" she asked.

"Those were snacks from my homeland. Despite having them on me, it's been a long time since I last had some."

"Was your casual outfit from your homeland as well?"

"Yes. Though it looks out of place here in Lugunica, it's a memento of my home. It's really comfy as well."

"Really? Maybe I should get a similar outfit as well then. Where would one find those outfits?"

"You'd probably need one made to order. You'd also probably need to send mine for the measurements as well."

Emilia waved her hands and shook her head, dismissing the idea. She'd like to not burden Subaru with anything.

"If that's the case, don't worry about it. I'd feel bad about sending off your memento somewhere."

"Why not have Rem do it, Lia? She's good at those things, right?" Puck interjected.

Emilia looked down, her face turning sad.

"You already know that she talks to me as little as possible. Asking her for such a thing seems a bit absurd."

"Yeah, you're right. Just wanted you to make some more friends."

"It's all right, Emilia-tan. I've decided to bring everyone in the mansion closer together while I'm here. Besides, you already have one friend," Subaru said with a smirk.

Emilia's face turned slightly red. Subaru was right. They were both friends already.

"R-right. Wait, isn't the conversation derailing? Getting back on topic, you were knocked out by the assassin and woke up faster than everyone thought you would."

"She's talking about our switch, right?" Tsubaru said.

"Know anything about that?" Emilia added.

"Honestly, I have no idea. It'd be helpful if I had even the slightest clue why that happened."

Puck flew over to Subaru and tapped his forehead a few times.

"Maybe you just have a thick skull."

"Whose skull are you calling thick, you cat?!"

"Just joking. But maybe it was some magic technique? Or something else. Are you able to use magic at all?"

"I can. I have the yin attribute apparently."

Emilia's eyes widened in surprise.

"Wow! That's pretty rare, Subaru," she said.

"Don't get your hopes up. Despite having a rare attribute, my gate and mana control are utter garbage, so I can't even use magic well."

"Well, that sucks for you. You can train your magic skill to be at least a little bit better with some work though. Otherwise, you can contract with a spirit. Your spirit affinity is super good, by the way." Puck informed Subaru.

"Everyone's been telling me the same thing. I'm currently holding off until I can contract with a certain spirit."

Puck flew closer to Subaru's head with a questioning gaze.

"Who might this spirit be?"

"Beako, in fact."

After a moment of silence, Puck began to laugh at Subaru.

"HAHAHA Good luck with that. She hasn't budged for quite a while. So, why do you want to contract with her?"

"Well, she seems lonely at a glance. I also want to make the mansion a happy place for everyone living here. While we have the chance, I'd like us all to enjoy life."

While we have the chance, I'd like us all to enjoy life.

Those words meant different things depending on who heard them. To almost everyone, they seemed like normal optimistic thinking. Anyone would like to simply enjoy a slow life after all.

To Subaru and Tsubaru however, those were their honest thoughts. With the Royal Selection and the many attacks coming up, this is the only chance they'd all get to enjoy life for a while.

They all talked some more about Subaru and what information he could give about himself. Eventually, Subaru heard someone approaching them. He turned around and saw Ram with her arms crossed.

"Break time's over, Barusu. Hurry or I'll make you clean the bath with a toothbrush."

Subaru stretched out his arms and started to follow Ram. He turned towards Emilia one last time.

"Well, I'll be off again. Come find me if you want to talk some more."

"Alright, Subaru. Don't work too hard."

Tsubaru sighed.

"Working too hard is a necessity when there's only three workers. At least stay hydrated, Natsuki Subaru."

"Yeah, whatever."

After Subaru was gone, only Emilia and Puck remained in the courtyard.

"He makes me curious about him. Wouldn't you agree, Lia?" Puck said.

"Yeah. I really want to know more about his past. I'll ask him about it when he's more comfortable about approaching the subject."

Puck thought back to what he said before. That he wanted to form a contract with Beatrice. Not for power or knowledge but just to simply bring her closer to everyone else.

"Maybe you could be the one she's waiting for?" he muttered.

"Huh? What was that?"

Puck shook his head.

"Just talking to myself. On another note, will you let me try out some new hairstyles on you? I just had some great ideas."

"Of course! It'll be while I am working though."

"Great! Let's get to it then."

Puck sat atop Emilia's head and they made their way back to Emilia's room. Puck started to braid Emilia's hair on the way.

The day of hard work passed by. Before going to bed, Subaru was shirtless and doing pushups in his room. He was working out using his old routine to get some of his former strength back. If he started earlier, he'd be able to do more in the coming days.

All Tsubaru could do was cheer him on from the side.

"Keep it up, Natsuki Subaru!" he exclaimed.

Subaru groaned while he did another pushup. It was really taxing on his body, especially after the day's cleaning.

"Why do I have to do all the dirty work while you get to sit down?" he asked.

"Hehe I'm enjoying doing nothing at all and getting stronger in return."

"I'd like to ask you to at least get me some water. Why must you only exist within me?"

"I'd gladly do anything the Natsuki Subaru asks of me. If I could be of any use, please tell me."

Subaru wiped away his sweat with a towel. He got into position to switch to doing crunches.

"It's not like you can even do anything. Do push ups as well then. It's only fair that you suffer with me."

"I already am suffering! You're making our bodies ache! I'm hot and out of breath as well!"

Tsubaru exhaled and loosened his scarf. It didn't help his breathing at all though.

"Hey, Natsuki Subaru. I've been wondering. Do you think our switch is an authority?"

Subaru thought about it as well.

He didn't recall any magic that lets you switch your consciousness with someone at will. Especially if that someone only existed inside of your own consciousness.

The closest thing he thought of was Petelgeuse's possession.

He was able to possess people to keep himself alive. That was similar to their ability as well. It'd only work if Tsubaru was a spirit though.

"Are you a spirit, perhaps?" he asked Tsubaru.

Tsubaru looked at his body.

"I see. Like Geuse, huh? I don't necessarily feel like a spirit normally would. Like Beako."

"So, you're not?"

"It's only a guess. Roswaal does something like that as well but the other person dies when he takes over."

Subaru heard something that surprised him.

"What? Roswaal does something like Petelgeuse's possession?"

"I guess you didn't know. Yeah, he takes over his descendant's bodies to prolong his own life."

"How long has he been doing that?"

"Since the first Roswaal Mathers."

Subaru thought Roswaal was shady but doing something like that? Taking over someone's body to prolong their own life? Roswaal really was inhuman.

Though, he did remember him saying he's lived for very long.

"The first Roswaal Mathers? His time was back around 400 years ago, wasn't it?"

"Yeah. He's the same Roswaal that's living in the mansion. Though, he's changed quite a bit."

"And you have all of his memories?"

"Yup."

Subaru was speechless.

"I also have lots of other long lives in my head. Humans are pretty normal but spirits and demi-humans can live for quite a bit. I must have thousands of years worth of memories up here."

Subaru blinked a few times.

"You're a monster, you know?"

"Sorry."

"That's not what I meant. You have all these memories in your head. How the hell do you retain yourself?"

"Pretend everything is fine and follow in Natsuki Subaru's footsteps. If everyone can still be there and I can still pretend to be Natsuki Subaru, I can keep hold of what makes me Tsubaru."

Subaru wiped away his sweat and continued to do crunches.

Subaru himself was a monster but Tsubaru took it to another level. He didn't just live through his own deaths but he also lived through other people's deaths. Their entire lives as well.

"Getting back on topic, Natsuki Subaru, I don't think we do the thing that Roswaal does. Since you're still alive and well. I also don't feel like a spirit so it's likely not similar to Petelgeuse as well."

"So, it's an authority then?"

"That's what I think it is."

"Well, it's the weakest pissing authority to date if it is! Why did you bring this up in the first place?"

"I was unable to use Invisible Providence but I returned with my memories intact when you died. If I can't use authorities, it doesn't make sense that my memories would be untouched."

"So?"

"I think I can indeed use authorities. There's just something missing about the initiation."

"Could it be Echidna's odd tea?"

"Doubt it. I believe I was returned from the future alongside you. I didn't feel like past Subaru getting overloaded with memories when I woke up. I just felt like myself."

Subaru wondered how he could've been returned from the future as well.

"Do you have a soul?" he asked.

Tsubaru grabbed his heart dramatically.

"Ouch. That hurts soooo much, Natsuki Subaru."

"You know I meant an actual soul."

"Hehe Yeah, I know. Whether I have a soul or not is beyond me. All I know is that I'm bound to you and can switch with you."

"So, what's missing about authority usage?"

"For sure, I'm my own entity, separate from your soul. If we shared a soul, I'd have been able to use Invisible Providence. Despite that, I'm bound to you as well."

Tsubaru held his hand over his heart.

"So, what if I can tap into your authorities if you use them as well?"

"Explain your reasoning."

"When you die and Return by Death activates, I Return by Death as well. Likewise, maybe if you use Invisible Providence, I could use it as well."

"You mean while you sneak behind somebody?"

"I mean while I am in control. You were gone at the time, so we couldn't test it out. But that's a good idea."

"What?"

Tsubaru held out his arm, mimicking Subaru's Invisible Providence.

"Invisible Providence is a rift in space that comes out of your chest, yes? What if we can both use it at the same time? We'd be a good stealth team."

"You're not asking me to test it out while I'm already weakened, are you?"

"Not at all. Just keep it in mind and we'll try it out when the time comes."

Subaru sat up and grabbed his towel. He decided that he worked out enough today. He fell onto his bed to rest up a bit before taking a bath.

He heard a knock on his door.

"Come in."

"It's me, Subaru," said Emilia, opening the door.

"Ah, Emilia. What's up?"

"I came to ask how your room… is…"

Emilia started to turn red.

"Emilia?"

"Um… Can you put your shirt on?"

Subaru realized that he didn't put his shirt back on. He quickly grabbed it and put it on.

"Sorry," he quietly said while they both looked away from each other.

"I-it's fine. Um… How's your room?"

"It's good. I don't necessarily need lots of space since I only really hang out here or sleep."

"That's good. Are you doing well with your new job? It's really tough work."

"Yeah. I have Rem and Ram to guide me if I need. I basically know what needs to be done from prior experience though."

"I want to thank you for the work you put in. I really feel like simply giving you a job, a hard one at that, in return for helping me out in the Capital is too lacking."

"I don't mind. I get to make new friends here who I really can't wait to hang out with. However, if you want to pay me back some more, I have some ideas."

Tsubaru chuckled.

"Don't ask anything improper of her, Natsuki Subaru," he teased.

Subaru glared at Tsubaru. Tsubaru apologized with a smirk.

"This seems a bit rehashed but how about we go on a date? A date is when a boy and a girl go out somewhere together."

"That's a great idea. Though, I'm not sure when my next day off is. Whenever that is, I'd love to go on a "dayte.""

Emilia looked out the window.

"It's gotten late. I'll be heading back to my room now."

She turned to leave. A bunch of small buds of light started to glow around Subaru. These were Emilia's contracted minor spirits.

Subaru held up his hand to them. They moved to float above it. Subaru smiled at the radiant and majestic light they emitted. Tsubaru leaned in closer for a look as well.

"They seem to be attracted to you. Puck said you have excellent spirit affinity, right?" Emilia said.

"That's indeed a trait I have. Thanks to it, I get to see sights like this from time to time."

"It's really beautiful, isn't it. Heehee Come on girls," she said as she waved at the spirits.

The spirits all travelled back to her, lighting her up. Combined with the natural moonlight peeking in, the sight of Emilia and her spirits was really beautiful. Both Subaru and Tsubaru could only stare in amazement.

"Good night, Subaru," Emilia said before closing the door and leaving.

Tsubaru smiled softly.

"She's really something else."

"Yeah."

"Glad we could agree on one thing hehe."

"I'd swallow my pride and agree with you if you said Emilia or Rem is cute. Taking them away from me is another matter though."

"Don't worry, Natsuki Subaru. I have no intention of doing so."

Subaru got up and went to take a bath to wash away his sweat. He felt replenished just from talking to Emilia.

The next day, the workers were preparing breakfast. Subaru was chopping some vegetables for Rem.

Rem went to grab some ingredients she needed for the dish she was preparing. She came back empty-handed however.

"It seems like we're out of certain ingredients, Nee-sama," she informed Ram.

"Then take a trip down to the village after breakfast to restock."

"What about my current dish?"

"Improvise," Ram said with a thumbs-up.

"Understood."

Subaru stopped cutting his vegetables and perked his head up.

"The village? Do we really need to go?" he asked.

Ram sighed at Subaru and turned towards him, arms crossed. The look on her face appeared as if she was staring at the world's biggest moron.

"How do you expect us to prepare meals without ingredients? Unfortunately for everyone, we cannot live on just my special steamed yams alone."

"It's that time now, isn't it?" Tsubaru asked Subaru.

Subaru knew exactly what he was referring to.

Meili's attack.

"In that case, why don't I just take the trip? I don't mind going for a walk," Subaru offered, hoping for a chance to apprehend Meili without raising their suspicions.

He was quickly shot down though.

"Fine. Take the trip as well, Rem," Ram said.

"Got it."

"I-I can probably manage it on my own," Subaru said.

"You've never even been to the village, Barusu. You want to get lost and become animal feed? For now, Rem can go show you who sells what," Ram replied.

Subaru quietly continued to cut the vegetables. Rem and Ram got back to work as well.

"There's no weaseling out of it, it seems. Natsuki Subaru, you should try to keep Rem away from Meili. She only needs to kill one of the workers here after all," Tsubaru said.

"What do you think she'll do if none of us gets bitten?" Subaru asked quietly.

Tsubaru thought about her past jobs that were similar.

"If you guys don't get bit, she'll probably just sneak into the mansion at night. Similarly, if you get bitten and she finds out the curse was removed, she'll use the children as bait. If all else fails, she'll bring in every mabeast she has around," he explained.

Meili was for sure a tough foe to go against. Especially if her real identity wasn't known.

If her status as an assassin was unknown to her target, she could use her age to her advantage. She even killed Subaru like this once. Luckily, Subaru knew about her this time around. He just needs to keep Rem away from her and catch her off guard in the mansion afterwards.

"If she is sneaking in, she'll probably have mabeasts ready in case she gets into trouble. She'll likely bring in a small one to get the job done. If you knock her unconscious, she shouldn't be able to tell the mabeasts to attack the mansion," Tsubaru continued.

"Okay. Guess that's the plan then."

Subaru gave the vegetables he finished cutting up to Rem. She added them to her dish, finishing up the preparations for breakfast. They placed everything onto a cart and Ram started to push it.

"Go fetch everybody, Barusu," she said.

Subaru left to inform everybody that breakfast is ready for serving. Breakfast went on like normal. It was now time to take a trip to the village.

Rem and Ram took note of what to buy and wrote it down. Subaru and Rem stepped outside. She then began to lead the way to the village. Subaru already knew the way but just followed behind.

Subaru watched her figure as she walked. He wanted to start a conversation with her while they were alone. He didn't know what to talk about however.

"It's still weird seeing her awake," Tsubaru said beside Subaru, watching her as well.

"It's only weird for you, huh? Personally, it's a relief that she's awake. It makes me depressed that she forgot about me though," Subaru responded.

"You're having trouble about what to talk about, aren't you? Sadly, Rem-rin is the one person I have no information about, so I cannot help you there."

"It's creepy that you know exactly how I think."

Subaru just decided to ask her if she knew about Meili. If she didn't, he could probably reveal her as an undercover assassin easier. That was ideal.

"Hey, Rem. Do you know anything about a little girl with deep-blue hair and green eyes in the village?"

Rem turned around and gave him a cold glare.

"Why?" she forcefully asked, making Subaru flinch.

"Oh… Uh… I'm just looking for someone I lost with that description. But that was a long time ago and it was rather far away as well. I don't even know if she's alive anymore. That's it, really," he hastily explained.

"...That's it?"

"Y-yeah."

Rem continued to glare at Subaru for a moment. She turned her head forwards and kept walking. Subaru sighed in relief.

He felt as if he needed to take extra care of his words around Rem. He had a hard time dealing with this side of her after living with her softer side for months.

"That glare was intimidating. Natsuki Subaru, you should at least tell her that there's a disease spreading around the animals. Maybe she'll steer clear from hornless mabeasts," Tsubaru said.

"Sure, I guess."

Subaru ran up beside Rem.

"While we're outside, try to steer clear from any weird dogs. While I was in the Capital, I heard that a new disease might be spreading around animals in forests and such. Seeing that we're surrounded by forests, it's best to stay away from animals for now," he said.

"...I'll keep that in mind," Rem replied.

Subaru and Rem kept walking in awkward silence. Eventually, they reached the village.

Subaru followed Rem to the stalls that were set up in the middle of the village. Rem greeted the villagers and started to make their purchases. Tsubaru felt regret seeing Arlam Village once more.

Back then, everyone here knew the name "Natsuki Subaru". Thus, nobody remained once "Subaru" came back.

Subaru greeted the villagers that were running the stalls while waiting for Rem.

"My name is Natsuki Subaru. I'm a new worker up in the mansion, so I may come down here for shopping trips every now and then," he told all of them.

"Haha This butler guy's got scary eyes. Hey mister, why are your eyes so scary?" one of the village children asked.

"Hey! That's not nice to say to someone on your first meeting, you brat," Subaru replied.

"EEK! Don't glare at me like that!"

Someone pulled on his sleeve from behind him. Subaru turned around and gulped.

"H-Hello there… little girl. What do you need?" he asked the girl with deep-blue hair and green eyes.

She was a girl who Subaru was acquainted with. This girl was Meili Portroute. The assassin sent to kill any worker of the Roswaal Estate.

Meili pointed towards the edge of the village without speaking a word. To an average person, she simply looked like a shy village girl. Subaru looked towards where she was pointing.

"She wants you to go over there. She has something she wants to show you," said another voice Subaru recognized.

This voice belonged to Petra. A hardworking young girl who exceeded his own mansion cleaning skills.

"That so? Come on then, Mr. Scary-Eyes," the snotty village boys said as they started to pull him along.

Subaru turned to Rem while being dragged. She sighed.

"Be fast."

Tsubaru realized that Meili was leading him away and ran up beside Subaru. Both Tsubaru and Subaru started sweating when they arrived at where Meili ran off to.

She was carrying a small dog in her arms.

The dog was black and had a bald spot on its head. A horn used to take up the empty space. A horn that all mabeasts had. This small animal was a dangerous threat to the children and anyone that came close to it.

Subaru pushed the boys back a bit, further from the mabeast. He leaned closer to Meili, a bead of sweat trickling down his face.

"I-Is this your dog?" he asked.

She nodded.

"Why does it have a bald spot?"

"..."

"Natsuki Subaru, try not to get bitten. If you or Rem go back safely, she'll have to come to the mansion. We can hold down and wait for her there instead," Tsubaru said.

Subaru discreetly nodded in affirmation.

Meili held the mabeast up to Subaru. He flinched back. Meili made a suspicious face.

"Sorry. Didn't mean to flinch so hard. I just heard in the Capital that a disease is spreading around animals in forests. Get your dog checked as well just in case," he explained to Meili.

"There's disease in the forest animals?" Petra asked.

"It's only a rumor. To be safe, you should all go play closer to the village. Otherwise, all the disgusting diseases will enter your bodies!" Subaru told the children.

"EEK!" they all yelled except Meili.

They all ran closer to the village. Meili remained standing beside Subaru though.

"Well, see ya later then. Careful not to get sick or anything," he said before quickly leaving and meeting up with Rem.

Meili watched as his back got further and further away. The mabeast in her arms watched in silence as well. She held it up to look at its face.

"What do you think, Boss Puppy? That one was wary of me. Does he know who I am?"

"Arf!"

"Heehee Looks like we have our priority target. It'd be bad if my identity got out. Let's go visit him after, Boss Puppy."

Subaru and Rem finished up their shopping and made their way back to the Roswaal Mansion. Subaru was watching his back all the way there.

The sun had set, the workers prepared dinner and now Subaru was standing in a hallway with a broom in his hand. He was pretending to clean the halls in case Rem were to see him. That way, he can look even a bit less suspicious. At the very least, she can simply call him a moron for not getting rest.

The real reason he was awake was to intercept Meili's attack on the mansion.

The plan was to knock her out so she couldn't call her mabeasts and then call out for help. Once somebody comes, Subaru will have already knocked out the intruder. This would make him more trustworthy and Meili will be in safe hands.

If Rem didn't get to her first, that is. Hopefully, that could be avoided.

"I feel like we should've grabbed one of Emilia's barrier crystals since Meili broke the barrier anyways. That way, we can keep the mansion dwellers safe," Tsubaru said.

He was right to think that way. That would've been a smart move had Subaru done it. There was a reason he didn't though.

"That would have made Rem wary of me."

"Ah, right. Rem-rin's one of the threats currently. Well regardless, I'll watch your back for you."

"Yeah, do that. Hate to say it but thanks."

Subaru and Tsubaru patrolled the halls, making sure to sweep a bit every now and then. Just in case Rem or Ram was watching him. They did that for about an hour, wondering if Meili would even show up tonight.

Eventually, while on the fourth floor of the mansion, they heard a noise down the hall around a corner. Tsubaru started to run over to see what it was.

"I'll go check it out and yell out if it's her. She can't hear or see me anyways."

He ran down the hall. Subaru kept his eyes on his back, watching as he rounded the corner. A couple moments later, Tsubaru yelled out to Subaru.

"It's her, Natsuki Subaru! She's slowly sneaking over your way!"

Subaru sighed in relief. It was time to get into position to take her by surprise. He'd wait around the corner and Tsubaru would tell him when she's just about to turn. It was a foolproof plan.

He took a step towards the end of the hall. It was then he heard a scream.

"AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

That was a familiar scream. In fact, it resembled his own. Was that Tsubaru? Why would he be screaming suddenly?

Subaru realized that his body was suddenly hot. Not his whole body but his lower half. He peeked down.

"Uh…"

His stomach was cleanly sliced open.

He fell onto his side and tried to grip his wound to stop the bleeding.

Why? Why was his stomach sliced open? Why didn't Meili attack? Who sliced open his stomach? Where did this attacker come from? Why was he dying? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?

"Jeeeeez Elsa! Why the heck are you here? I had him!" the blue-haired little girl said.

"I just had to finish up my job. He managed to piss me off, you see. It's funny that he ended up at my client's mansion though."

"That so? Weeeell, I guess this means we finished both our jobs then. We should escape before anyone comes to investigate."

"Already? I'd only just sliced him open."

"Teehee You're such a weirdo, Elsa."

Elsa opened Subaru's wound even further, making him cry out in pain. She inspected his guts.

"Elsa, he's being sooo loud! We really need to go! Take his guts with you or something!"

"Fine, fine. Sorry, but I'll be taking these," Elsa said before cutting off Subaru's bowels.

She stood up and held the bowels on her face, taking in the warmth.

"Hide the body as well!"

"Sure. I have no interest in the other parts anyways."

She bent over to pick up Subaru, who was still writhing in pain. Subaru slightly opened his eyes to see what was going on. He saw an open window getting closer to him.

"Enjoy the ride heeheehee," Meili laughed.

Elsa tossed him out the window. As he fell the four stories, time seemed to slow down. He felt like he was falling for longer than he actually was.

What went wrong this time? Why was Elsa here? Meili was one thing but how was he going to drive her away?

With questions in his mind going unanswered, he finally reached the ground. He landed behind a bush headfirst, breaking his neck. His life abruptly ended at the hands of the Bowel Hunter.

Woah what?! What a twist!

Here's where it starts. I'm trying to not make this story a simple rewrite with Tsubaru included, so enjoy the small changes.

This chapter showed what Tsubaru could do to help even while he's not in control of the body. He has good information and can do close recon for Subaru. Plus, he's intelligent.

Well, I'm going to skedaddle again. See ya!
