It's been a week and Hayley isn't getting much better. In fact, she fell into a coma. The doctors still don't know what is going on with Hayley or even the reason why she entered a coma in the first place. Hope was worried but a little less since talking to her aunt Freya. She says that Hayley's werewolf side put her in a coma so she could properly take her time to heal. Freya taught Hope a spell and Hope was able to see into her moms' mind and even talk to her.

When she entered they were in the bayou back in New Orleans with her mom standing by the lake.

"Hope," Hayley said without looking away from the water.

"Mom," Hope said and walked up to her and stood next to her. Hayley looked her way and gave her daughter a small smile.

"You don't have to worry," Hayley assured her daughter.

"But you're in a coma."

"I am aware, but I am here so I could heal properly," Hayley said. "In a couple of months, I'll be back wide awake and healthy as ever."

"But why months?"

"Hope, vampires are supposed to burn in the sun making us more sensitive to fire. And the dragon's fire was is more harmful to vampires than any vervain and fire mixed together, I don't know how, but it is. The only reason why me and those kids survived was because they aren't vampires and weren't the target. I survived from my werewolf side but it caused some damage. That's why I have to be here."

"You know the house was empty enough with just us there. But now, with just me?" Hope said. Hayley brushed a strand of hair out of Hope's face.

"You know it'd be ok," Hayley said. "Sneak me some blood in the IV bags I know they put on me. Also, don't visit me like this anymore, it'll help speed up time for me."

"Got it," Hope said. "Love you, mom."

"Love you, Hope," Hayley said before Hope opened her eyes and found herself again at the bedside of her mom as she laid in the hospital bed with a heart monitor at her side. Hope smiled at her knowing that her mom was healing and was peaceful for once. Hope squeezed her mom's hand and let it go as she stood up grabbing her bag as she made her way to school. She came to the hospital an hour before so she could perform the spell to talk to her mom.

Hope entered the school and put her stuff in her locker for the day.

"Hello," She said and closed her locker, and turned to face Lydia.

"Wow, nothing gets past you," Lydia said and gave Hope a hug. Hope was still getting used to physical affection with other people that were not her family so she awkwardly hugged Lydia back. "So, good job on the A of the project in science," Lydia praised and they started walking down the hall.

"Yeah, my family is kind of a know it all so, that all got passed down to me," Hope said. Hope had also gotten more comfortable with the people being kind to her but she still doesn't know if she can trust them enough to call them her friends. Hope came to a stop in front of a paper on the side of the wall.

"Lacrosse tryouts?" Hope asked.

"Yeah, lacrosse is a pretty big deal around here," Allison said coming from behind them.

"Hmm," Hope hummed. She thought about lacrosse for a moment. She heard the sport from her dad and Marcel even taught her the basics saying that she should know a little of everything. "Do they allow girls?"

"Hope, are you serious?" Allison asked but it wasn't harsh it was more teasing than anything.

"I need something to distract myself," Hope said. Plus it's not like I can wolf out every day. "And it's rather quiet in my house since..." Hope trailed off.

"Are you doing alright?"

"Yes. I know my mom is going to get better," Hope said.

"Well, we could come over if you want?" Allison suggested.

"No, no that's ok," Hope said. She didn't need anyone to wonder how her family has the kind of money they have. "But do you think they'll take girls?" Hope asked once again.

"It says all are welcome," Malia said coming in snatching of paper off of the wall after some short protest from Allison and Lydia and Hope guessed they weren't suppose to do that. "And it'll be a good way to make the boys jealous of what you could do."

"You haven't even seen me play," Hope said.

"But you'll still probably kick their ass," Malia said waving the paper in front of Hope. She snatched it out of Malia's hand and looked down at it.

"During free period," Hope said. She did need something to distract herself, "Why the heck not?" Hope said as she grabbed the sign-up clipboard that was next to the poster and signed her name. She almost put Mikaelson instead of Marshall but quickly fixed it without anyone noticing.

"Awesome!" Malia said and gave Hope a high five. "I hope you bring everyone one done."

"Then why don't you sign up?" Hope asked Malia.

"I would but I don't know how to play the sport. At all. All I see is a net, a stick, and boys running after a ball," Malia said as they started to roam the hallways with Allison and Malia.

"You know Scott, Stiles, and Isaac are also on the lacrosse team," Allison gaining Hope's attention back to her.

"Really? How long have they been playing?" Hope asked.

"Since the beginning of freshmen year, and know there some of the team's best players. Stiles finally had his chance as well as Isaac and Scott's asthma went away," Lydia explained.

"Huh, Scott's asthma went away, just like that?" Hope questioned.

On the inside, Allison and Lydia were freaking out. Malia was calm as usual, not seeing what the problem was with the asthma thing.

"No, not just like that, his mom is a doctor that I'm sure you heard, of so her and her co-workers helped Scott with his problems," Lydia said and Allison was grateful cause she didn't lie well in front of her friends.

Hope however wasn't convinced. She heard their hearts speed up a bit, but, Malia's didn't, so maybe they were just surprised by the question? But Hope couldn't let it go, call her paranoid like her dad but she had to be sure.

"Right," Hope said and the bell rang saving all of them as they headed to their classes.

Hope spend the rest of the day taking notes on classes, she didn't want to fail. But when she was lost in her mind for a second she accidentally wrote down some of her own spells and quickly erased them before anyone could notice.

When it was free period she would usually go to the library to see if they had anymore spells they shouldn't have, that in the wrong hands, like Hope, it could be bad. She admits using the death spell on the dragon might have not been the course of action to take. So she wanted to know that if there any more hidden spells here, so the humans won't accidentally chant something and revealing they're supernatural. Yeah, Hope didn't need any more problems with her mom down.

But today were the lacrosse tryouts. Granted, she never played a game of lacrosse before but, training with a hundred-year-old vampire called Marcel, she thinks she has a chance of evening the playing field.

She went to the girls' locker room of P.E and changed into her gym clothes which was just a white t-shirt and a black short. She grabbed her bag and made her way to the field.

"Alright listen up rookies!" Coach Finstock yelled to gain the lacrosses' team's attention. "As you all know, new year new players. Usually, we let everyone who signed up in but we only have room for 7 players out of the 15 who signed up. And since you are all lucky you suck slightly less or less I'd have to make cuts, but with Jackson gone and Greenberg still, here I don't want to risk it." Coach said. "That's it meet you on the field." He said and left.

"Hey Stiles, have you done what I asked?" Scott asked Stiles as he was putting on the last things he needed.

"Nope," Stiles said. "Not yet."

"Dude! It's been a week," Scott said and Isaac looked at them both very confused.

"A week to do what?" Isaac asked.

"Oh Scott just asked me to test if Hope is a werewolf using mountain ash," Stiles said nonchalantly as if they were discussing how the weather was today.

"Why not wolfbane?" Isaac asked.

"Wolf's bane is poisonous, if she is one of us it could cause some pain," Scott explained.

"So you do think she might one?" Isaac asked Scott

"Maybe, I'm not sure yet. That's why Stiles needs to prove it." Scott said closing his locker and they all made their way outside onto the field.

They thought they saw a familiar dark redhead but the coach blew his whistle before they could get a good look

"Alright! Five laps around the field! Go!" Coach yelled and blew his whistle as everyone was off trying to be the first one to finish.

Hope knew better than to be at the front. Her speed was the one thing she could control so she held back at the average human speed and when they were done some people were already out of breath. The Coach blew his whistle again to gain their attention.

"Alright listen up! Newcomers, try and follow along the rest of the team and we'll see who stays and who goes from you." Coach blew his whistle again. "Line up!"

The rest of the team knew what to do and so Hope went behind some to see some demonstrations on what they were supposed to do so she could catch up.

Finally, it was her turn and she got the idea of what they were supposed to do and picked up the lacrosse stick that was on the ground by kicking it up and catching it. She saw that the two defenders were Scott and Stiles both looking at her in surprise. She guesses that the girls didn't tell them she was trying out. Coach blew his whistle which had to be for the thousandth time and she picked up the ball with the lacrosse stick and started running towards the goal. Scott and Stiles shook out of their trance they seemed to be having and when Hope was approaching them they put themselves together to try and push her down but at the last second, she sidetracked going on Stiles' side not giving him a chance to blink and launched the ball forward catching the goalie off guard thinking that Scott and Stiles would block her and the ball almost made a hole in the net. Luckily for Hope, it didn't.

"Yeah! Way to go Marshall! McCall! Stilinski! Pick it up!" Coach said and Hope got back in line.

"Mountain. Ash," Scott said to Stiles.

"Ok, ok. I'm on it." Stiles replied.

"Dunbar! You're next!" Coach yelled and a blonde hair freshman with blue eyes stepped up. Stiles and Scott played their routine only to have the kid squeeze past them as he was running quickly and made a goal.

"Make that two people," Scott said to Stiles.

"Duh."

The practice went on as they did another set of drills in which Hope Marshall and the kid named Dunbar excelled.

"Tomorrow you all will have the results, now get out of here," Coach said and they all went into the lacrosse locker room and Hope went into the girls' locker room.

As they were changing Stiles "accidentally" poured some mountain ash around Liam as Scott was talking to him.

"Is this you're first time playing lacrosse?" Scott asked Liam.

"No, I played it as a kid with my dad," Liam said.

"You're new here?" Scott asked.

"Kind of moved here during the summer with my mom and stepdad," Liam said and closed his locker.

"That's cool, I guess we'll be seeing you around with your skills," Scott said. Liam looked at him weirdly.

"Um, ok?" Liam said and made his way out of the locker room past the mountain ash.

"Well, that's one cleared up," Scott said to Stiles who he knew was behind him.

"Yeah, but he's does have skill! Him and Hope! They're going to leave us in the dust!" Stiles complained.

"Speak for yourself," Isaac said.

"That's no fair you two have werewolf powers. You know who doesn't? Stiles! Me! I don't have the skills and I will probably go back to warming the bench!" Stiles exclaimed.

"Dude, come on. Coach knows we play better together," Scott said trying to reassure Stiles. "Come on, let's go to lunch, I'm starving."

"Me too," Isaac said as he followed Scott out of the locker room

"Guys! This is not over!" Stiles called out as he raced to catch up to them.

They found themselves at their usual table with the girls already sitting there and saw Hope was still yet to come.

"Stiles," Scott said.

"Yeah, I know," Stiles said and they sat down with the rest.

"How did it feel to come second place?" Allison asked the boys.

"You all saw?"

"Free period, of course, we watched," Lydia said.

"You've got competition," Malia said. "Two competitors."

"Yeah, we don't need to be reminded," Stiles said and brought out the small jar of mountain ash that Scott gave Stiles from Deaton. The girls didn't know what they were up to and before stiles could even uncap it someone interrupted.

"What's that?" Hope asked spoking the rest as she took a seat not noticing.

"Jesus Hope!"

She only hummed as her eyes landed back again at the jar of dirt that Stiles was holding. "So, what is that?" She asked once again.

"Uh, it's for an assignment, that I have due, today. About dirt." Stiles said and Lydia face palmed herself and Hope didn't notice.

"What kind of dirt is it?" Hope asked.

"Um, it's rare, and my dad is the sheriff...so he was able to get it for me," Stiles said and Hope didn't bother trying to hear his heartbeat.

"Can I see it?" Hope asked putting her palm out and Stiles looked surprised and Scott nudged him to hurry. Stiles undid the jar and poured some in Hopes' hand subtly looking at her to see what would happen. Nothing. She pulled her palm to get a better look at it.

However, when she touched it she felt power coming from it. She could feel its worth. "What is it?"

"Mountain ash," Malia said.

"Huh," Hope said. She pulled out a golden vile and poured the so-called mountain ash in it. "You don't mind...?"

"No, it's just a bit,"

"Thanks," Hope said and put the vile in her bag. She's glad she listened to her dad in the 'always expect the unexpected lesson.

"Why do you want it?"

Spells, "My aunts back at home have basically everything in a collection and they don't have this yet," Hope lied but managed to keep her heartbeat steady.

"Like collectors?"

"Yeah, it's a hobby for them you could say," Hope lied again.

"So why didn't you tell us you were trying out for the lacrosse team?" Isaac asked changing the subject which Hope was secretly relieved by.

"Well I have nothing else to do in this town, plus with my mom, out, I've really got nothing else," Hop explained.

"Where did you learn how to play?"

"A family friend of my dad helped me learn,"

"When did you start?" Allison asked.

"Just a couple of years ago when he returned with my aunt from traveling," Hope said.

"Just a couple of years? With how you play?" Stiles questioned.

"What Stiles means-"

"No it's ok, I know I can be a fast learner," Hope said. "But I do have a question, the gear," She said pointing to the boys' lacrosse gear. "Would they even have sizes that would fit me?"

"I would believe so,"

"Good," Hope said but something caught her ear.

"There is no way I am letting a girl going to try and take up a slot that shouldn't go to her," She heard. It was coming from behind her.

"Can I see your lacrosse stick?" Hope asked Scott. He shrugged.

"Yeah, sure," He said and handed it to her without much a thought.

"Thanks," Hope said taking it.

"Watch this," She heard as she stood up. Soon enough she heard a ball flying through the air.

"Hope! Watch out!"

She turned around with the lacrosse stick and caught it before it could hit her face. She could feel some eyes on her like on the first day of school when they were all looking at her. She looked at the kid who threw it in the eye and swore she saw him shiver. She threw it back and it hit him right in the middle and he groaned as he fell.

The bell rang again and she handed Scott his lacrosse stick back and put her bag back on. "See you guys in class," Hope said as she walked inside the school building leaving everyone at the table dumbstruck.

"Um..."

"How did she...?" Lydia trailed off.

"If she's not a supernatural, then, what?" Stiles asked.

"We'll figure that out later, we do need to get to class instead of skipping them," Allison said.

They left as the kid Hope threw the ball at was barely getting up from the floor.
