"We're going to ask some questions. You answer them, nobody gets hurt." She said easily. "You don't answer, we turn on the dial. So...We don't know where Derek is. We want to find him as well. You know who took him." She said simply."
"What? How would I know that?" Scott asked.
"That doesn't sound like an answer to me."
"We don't know. Why do you think we came here?" Malia asked.
"Lydia, turn the dial." She said. Lydia hesitated before getting a threatening glare from Araya and a nod from Scott.
"Let's start at one," Araya said. Lydia slowly crept her hand to the dial she took a deep breath before turning the dial-up.
They saw the electricity but...nothing. Nothing happened, there were no shouts or grunts or winces of pain.
The head looked to see if Lydia did it correctly to see that the dial was on setting number 1. "Turn it up to 5!"
Lydia did that and they saw sparks fly from the chains but nothing. His heart of beating steadily, and no sign of pain.
"What is happening?" Araya asked her one of the guards.
*flashback*
Hope got out the ingredients for what she needed and put them together in a specific order. A piece of thread each from Isaac's, Scott's, and Stiles's lacrosse stick from the net. A piece of torn cloth that was Malia's when she had given it to her when Hope had accidentally cut herself to wrap it up (Hope didn't question at the time). One of Lydia's headbands that she had given as a gift and a piece of Allison's hair.
"Non electricity dolore. Dolorem non veniet." She chanted, as she drew symbols around each of them. "Non electricity dolore. Dolorem non veniet. Non electricity dolore. Dolorem non veniet." She felt a little dizzy but continued.
When she was done the items irrupt into flames as the symbols faded away. She held the items to the open windows as they were still burning but no heat was coming from them. The wind tried to blow the fire away but it kept on burning. She did the spell right. She placed them in a box for safekeeping and put them away in her closet. It was going to last only for a day, but, since it was going to be a stormy weekend with a chance of lightning tomorrow, she wanted to make sure her friends were ok.
Her nose started bleeding a bit ignored it as she went to sleep.
*end of flashback*
"What is happening?" Araya asked once more and the guards went to go touch him when the electricity shocked him instead. "Looks like we'll have to do this the old fashion way."
Lydia put the dial back at zero as she sighed in relief only to gasp again as this time Scott did grunt in pain as they got out a wolfbane plant and started tracing it on his face.
"That's weird," Isaac stated.
"What? Do you hear them?" Stiles asked.
"Yeah but, when they tried to torture him using what sounded to be electricity, nothing happened. That should be one of our weaknesses." Isaac said.
"Maybe it's a true alpha thing?" Stiles suggested but even as he said it, it sounded silly to all their ears including his.
"What's going on now?" Allison asked.
Isaac was silent for a minute before wincing. "I don't know, but he's in pain."
"This isn't going well."
"Who actually has Derek?" Araya asked once more as they started loading the wolfbane into a big bucket of water contaminating it. "Who had a reason, a vendetta particular to the Hales?"
Scott closed his eyes. "I don't know."
"Oh, you don't know because you haven't figured it out yet. So think! Who could've taken him? Who had the power? The power of a shapeshifter? Someone who could have turned without you knowing. Turned, but not by a bite!
"I don't know!" Scott said and they picked up the gallons of water in the bucket and poured it all over Scott as his eyes flashed red as his skin felt like it was fire and almost passed out from all the pain as it brought out memories from when he first got turned.
"Can you get turned by a scratch?" The voice...
"If the claws go deep enough." He had heard them talking that night.
"Say the name, Scott." Araya pressured once more.
The man had pulled the gun away from Scott as he answered. The answer he didn't know he had. "Kate."
"No way," Isaac said.
"What? What is it?" Stiles asked.
"Kate, Kate argent took Derek," Isaac replied and they both saw Allison tense.
"She's alive?" Allison didn't get a response or a chance to continue when the doors were opened and the guards took them outside where they saw the rest minus Scott waiting for them.
"Lydia was right. It was a stupid plan." Malia said.
They watched as Araya talking to Scott as they saw the burns on his skin slowly but surely go away and him looking a bit disturbed walking their way.
"She thinks she knows where we can find Derek." That was what Scott said when he spoke but he was still seemed to hold something back.
"She gonna tell us where?"
"She's giving us a guide," Scott said and they looked over to where a motorcycle engine was coming from as she pulled to a stop and took off a helmet.
"Braeden."
"Who's Braeden?" Malia asked.
"She's a mercenary."
"And right now, I'm the only one who's gonna take you to la Iglesia." She spoke as she nudged to the Stiles's jeep as they fit in and she left with them following her.
It was silent in the Jeep as they drove on the dirt road until Malia spoke
"Who's Kate Argent?" She asked and no one responded. "I'm guessing she's related to you," Malia said and looked at Allison.
"I'd like to know how she got out of a casket that was buried six feet underground," Stiles said.
"She was never in it," Allison said softly that made everyone look at her.
"What?"
"She was never in it," Allison said as she took a deep breath.
"You don't have to..." Lydia started off but Allison shook her head.
"Malia should know," Allison said. "Kate was my aunt. A total sociopath when I found what she did to the Hale family. She was the one who set the fire that killed most of Derek's family. Some of them survived, like Cora, and Peter."
"A very angry Peter." Stiles butted in. "Continue."
"He caught up to her, and killed her."
"But we saw her buried."
"No," Allison said. "She wasn't in the casket. The Calaveras heard that Kate had been killed by Peter. I thought it was nothing. And when they took the body I thought they were going to a Hunter memorial or something." Allison scoffed. "I guess I was wrong. If a hunter is bit, they have to take their own life before they change. The Calaveras, treat the code like law. They make it their responsibility to enforce it. But she didn't. Hypocrite." Allison muttered the last word.
"So Kate's a werewolf now?" Malia asked.
"I don't know."
"You know, there's a saying," Scott started dragging the attention to him. "Sometimes the shape you take reflects the person you are."
"What kind of shape is sociopathic bitch?" Allison asked just before the hero hit something and they were forced to a stop.
"What happened?"
"I don't know. It felt like we hit something." Stiles answered.
"Scott, we need to get there by night," Braeden said as she also came to a stop as the rest stepped out of the Jeep. "It's too dangerous otherwise."
"Go," Stiles said to Scott.
"What?"
"Dude, someone needs to find Derek," Stiles said. "Just go. I'm we'll be fine."
Scott looked at the others and they nodded as Malia shrugged. "Okay."
"But, what did Araya say to you?" Stiles asked.
Scott looked at the dirt below his feet and back up not making eye contact with them. "I'll tell you later. When we go home," He said and walked over to Braeden and got on the motorcycle as they drove off.
"Stiles," Malia said drawing his attention as she reached inside the Jeep and brought something out. "I don't think we hit something. I think something hit us." She said showing a bone-like knife weapon.
"Well, that's just great,"
Scott and Braden had made it to someplace that seemed to be deserted for quite some time as he got a better look at it. But he still couldn't shake what Araya said to him.
"What happened here?" Scott decided to ask.
"An earthquake," Braden answered. "It leveled the town."
"Then why is The Church still standing?" Scott asked. Everything else seemed to be in ruins but the church was still standing up tall.
"The locals think it's because of what's underneath. The Church was built over the ruins of an Aztec temple. It belonged to a person called the nagual. Were-jaguars." Braden clarified.
"So Derek and Kate are somewhere in there?"
"I don't know," She admitted. "Never gotten this far before."
The sun was now very low and the night sky would soon be covering them.
"Maybe we should just walk," Lydia suggested from where she was sitting on a part of Stiles's jeep.
"Hey," Stiles said as pointed his tool to her. "I will never abandon this jeep. You understand me? Ever. Ever. Ever."
"Then work faster."
Stiles tried to ignore that comment as he went back to working on whatever his jeep was having problems with.
Allison was just listening to the two bickering in amusement as Malia ignored them looking in the dry bushes where she saw something move.
'What?" Allison asked as she approached her.
There's something else in here," Malia said as her eyes tried to find the creature she saw trying to pick up their scent.
"Something like what?" Allison asked noticing Malia's face change.
"Something not human," She responds.
They both heard Stiles and Lydia went back to bickering over the jeep but this time both of them ignored the two. There was another movement that Malia had just caught out of the corner of her eye.
"Did you see that?" Malia commented. They heard a roar making all four of them look to see where it came from as it roared again. Malia tried to pinpoint where the sound came from and took off running.
"Malia, wait!" Stiles called out.
"Hey, Malia!" Allison called out she looked back at her friends and got her bow. "You guys keep fixing the jeep I'll go and try and find her," She said and followed the path Malia took.
It was night time and Allison could barely see a thing and that limited her vision. She had an arrow ready to fire as she tried to search for Malia.
"Malia?"
There was a twig snapping and she spun around raising her bow ready to shoot but brought it down when she saw it was just Malia.
"Don't run off like that!" Allison said worriedly. "What happened? Are you ok?"
"Yes, I'm fine. Whatever I was chasing is big and fast. And it cuts deep." Malia said.
"Let's get back with the others," Allison said extending her arm for Malia to take as they went back with the others.
They came back to see Stiles starting up the car and Lydia getting in the back seat and they relaxed when they saw both Allison and Malia coming up to the Jeep and getting in.
"Are you ok?" Stiles asked looking back at Malia for a second before returning his eyes to the road.
"Yeah, just a scratch," Malia shrugged.
"It's deep!" Allison complained as she continued to patch her up.
"I can already feel it healing," Malia said not really knowing why Allison was overreacting.
"Did you see what attacked you?" Lydia asked.
"Barely. It had a strong scent, though." Malia confessed.
"Like what?"
"Like death."
"If you find Kate in here, what are you gonna do with her? Scott asked.
"Bring her back to the Calaveras. That's what they paid me for." Braden said simply.
"What happens after that?"
"Not my problem," She said and Scott was puzzled.
"You don't care?"
"Do you? She's a mass murderer," She reminded.
"If you were paid enough, would you kill her?" He asked.
"If the money was good," She turned to face him for a second. "I'd kill you."
They continued walking through the church while Scott was now more uncomfortable with the last sentence.
"Can you catch Derek's scent?" She asked as they went deeper in.
"Yeah," Scott assured. "I already got it."
They continued quietly as they can going more closer to the center of La Iglesia. They crept closer but Scott froze and turned around quickly as he thought he heard footsteps but didn't hear anymore and shrugged it off before hearing it again and turned.
"You hear that?" Scott asked before the thing, whatever it was roared again. "Is this why you never get that far?"
"Get ready," Braden warned as she got her shotgun loaded.
They both tried to see where the noise was coming from. They heard the roar for the third time now.
"Scott, get behind me," Braden whispered as the thing came into view. When Scott didn't do what she said she yelled. "Scott, get behind me!"
Scott didn't listen again and focused as his red eyes came out looked at the creature and brought out one of his powerful alpha roars. The church shook and anything within a 5-mile radius probably heard it and the thing backed up back into the shadows as Scott's roar came to an end.
"I think I scared it," Scott said after a pause.
"I think you scared everything," Braden commented.
They continued as they didn't come across another one of whatever they saw and saw a picture on a wall.
"What is that?"
"Tezcatlipoca. The nagual jaguar God. I think we found Derek." Braden said.
"Stand back," Scott said and she did as Scott started punching the wall over and over again as a hole opened up and they saw through it.
"Oh, my God."
Stiles and the rest managed to find La Iglesia in the dark (which was hard) and came to a stop just outside the church and got outside.
"Is that him? Is that Derek?" Malia asked. She'd never met him before and was confused when she saw him.
"Uh, sort of," Stiles said.
Derek was slowly getting consciousness as he was barely able to lift his head and they saw the teenage version of him.
"I'll help you load him in your truck then you're on you're on your own back to beacon hills," Braden said and she dragged part of the Derek with Scott's her into the back seat where he passed out again.
"I'm confused, is that Derek it not?" Malia asked once again.
"We'll explain it on the road," Scott said as they all climbed back into the Jeep as it took a few tries to turn it back on and they saw Braden get back on her motorcycle and go off into the desert.
"You going to tell us the thing Araya said to you?" Stiles as when they were on open road.
Scott sighed. "She said two things." He admitted. "One, if I give the bite to someone she'll come for me."
"That's something to worry about," Lydia said.
"And the other?" Allison asked.
Scott took a pause. "She said to thank our 'bruja."
flashback*
"You got lucky with electricity, niño," Araya said. "Your bruja is very smart. Thank her for me."
"Bruja? What does that mean?" Scott asked still in pain from the wolfsbane that was not very comfortable.
"Oh, you don't know? Well, it seems they're protecting you from afar. Or simply you haven't met them yet," She said as she walked back into the building as Scott walked back to his friends a bit disturbed.
*end of flashback*
"Bruja. Witch," Lydia translated.
"She said it could be someone watching us from away. Maybe someone new got into town and we don't know and want us for something soon?" Scott asked.
"We'll check when we get back for now," Stiles said looking back at the unconscious Derek. "We've got another problem.
